Can genie+ sell out?

I purchased one day tickets for our family for next month. As I was checking out I was deliberately looking for the option to add Genie+. It was nowhere to be found. I checked out without it. Now when I mess around with “change ticket” it says, “You may purchase Disney Genie+ service on the day of your visit, via the My Disney Experience app, subject to availability.”

Did Disney take away the option to pre-purchase Genie+ and if not should I be concerned it may have already sold out on the day we are going?

I'm not sure if you were ever able to purchase it early for a one day trip- always had to buy a package.

But I have never heard of it selling out- more likely, if the parks are extremely busy you'll just find it very hard to get the rides you want.

You can't add Genie+ to one day tickets anymore. You have to add it day of (so after midnight on your actual park day). If you want to buy Genie+ in advance you have to buy it for the entirety of your trip. Disney has stated that Genie+ itself cannot sell out. What can happen is that you can buy Genie+ later in the day and see that most of the times for the more popular attractions have been already taken and you are left with little to no availability.

The only thing that can sell out are the Individual Lightning Lanes, which are completely separate from Genie+ and do not require Genie+ to buy.

Yes, at 12:01 a.m. of the day you are going to the park a purple band will appear (in the app, under "My Genie Day" and on the "My day" tab). Be sure to add it by 7 a.m. Also make sure someone in your party has loaded the app on their phone and can see that the Genie is available. Right at 7 a.m. be ready to go with what you want to do. One of you will purchase the Individual Lightning lane for the park you are going to and the other will make the Lightning Lane reservation for the first ride.

If Disney says that sounds more like semantics to me. If enough people buy Genie on any given day and all of the available ride times are taken..................then clearly that would be my definition of 'sold out'. Genie allows you to choose selected rides/times.......if none are available, then having Genie for that day would be of no value.

Hopefully, Disney has been monitoring Genie purchases and ride availability since this is a fairly new thing. Selling an unlimited number of Genie passes for a given day would certainly create a PR nightmare for those who find they can't use it and want a refund.

Oh no I agree with you. I was just parroting what Disney said when Genie+ was unveiled in that the service itself wouldn't "sell out" like how Express Pass at Universal does. I would consider that to be sold out as well but obviously Disney does not see it that way. They will gladly take your $15 at 3 pm when all of the E-ticket attractions are taken and all that is left is Barnstormer at 8:30pm.

I think Disney would need to either cap Genie+ sales or raise the price of Genie+ from $15 if they want to fix the issue of availability.

I have never seen it sell out entirely, in the sense that there will always be *something* you can use it for, like it's a small world, for example. It would be wild if there was not one single thing at all to book (I haven't ever seen that yet in our usage of it). But the most popular attractions can and do "sell out" just as with the previous FP and FP+

We're in the same boat on our next visit because we're using some passes that were comped to us for something that went badly on a past trip. Comped tickets also can only add Genie+ on day of. So we'll be doing that every morning on our next visit for the comped passes (probably around 6:30 a.m. so I'm ready to go at 7:00 a.m.

No worries the $30 price increase is coming and it will still have all the same issues it has now.
Unfortunately you're probably right. Just for curiosity sake I looked up Express Pass prices for next week and it's $161 for a weekday and $220 for a Saturday (this is the unlimited). Can't even imagine what would happen if Disney offered a skip the line service for that price or higher.

This would hurt their VIP tours, I don't believe they will ever offer that product.
