Can family members have their own MDE and also remain in mine?

There is some misinformation here.

Using a MagicBand to charge purchases does not require a form of payment linked in MDE. Purchases charged with a MagicBand do not go to a card on file, they are added to a Disney resort folio, and charged to the card on file with that reservation, unless other arrangements are made. So all guests on a reservation can charge purchases to the room. That includes children, as long as the parent has allowed charging through the front desk at the resort, whether they have their own MDE account or not.

A guest under age 18 cannot purchase Genie+ or ILL, but that has nothing to do with charging purchases with a MagicBand.
I agree although for us it wasn’t until my dd turned 10 that her band actually worked for purchases. I added charging privileges 3 different trips when she was 9 but when she’d try to use it it wouldn’t work. Our first trip shortly after she turned 10 I added her again and from then forward she was fine.

Well, my son has previously been able to charge to his MB when he was on my account. Once he got his own, he was no longer able to charge to the MB. We were staying onsite. The hotel desk said he would need to add a form of payment but would not be able to do so since he wasn’t 18. We tried the desk at 2 separate WDW hotels at which we were staying. So, either they just didn’t know what the problem was or they were correct. Have you successfully had a child under 18 with their own MDE account charge to an MB? I don’t personally know anyone in this situation; our WDW friends do not have kids.

I believe the age you can grant a child charging privileges is 10, as was the experience for @scrappinginontario.

It could be that the cast members (although I am surprised this happened at multiple resorts) were confused what you were asking for.

All the registered guests in a Disney resort room (age 10 and up) can charge purchases to that room, as long as they have set up a PIN with the front desk or online. Those charges go to the resort folio, and will be charged overnight before checkout to the card on file at the resort, unless other arrangements are made.

There is also the option to ask that charges for one or more guests go to a different card at checkout. This is common when adult friends are traveling together, as an example. In that case, which has to be set up at the front desk on arrival (can't be done in advance), the guest who wants their charges separated from the lead guest would have to present a credit card to be added to the resort account.

So it could be they thought you were asking if his charges could go to another card? But even then, that card does NOT have to be added to the MDE account. Charges with a MagicBand have nothing to do with MDE, they go to the resort.

But that's the only explanation I can think of.

I’m not sure if I’m interpreting correctly but will say Disney started allowing charging privileges to my DD’s MB, when I approved,at about the age of 10. She’s only on my MDE due to her age.

She is very responsible so I granted her access to charge.

A funny story. I had looked at a certain umbrella in Japan (pattern appears when wet) for a number of trips but never bought it. Last trip I looked again and she asked which colour I liked best. I told her and she picked it up saying, ‘You've wanted this a long time so I’m buying it for you for your birthday!’ I quickly told her she didn’t have to spend so much of her hard earned Disney savings on me!’ She smiled, flashed me her MB and said, ‘I’m not! You are!!’ 🤣

We laugh and talked about that story as recently as last night!! I also think of it and smile each time I open that umbrella!! 💕

this is exactly the kind of thing my daughter would do lol

It’s not an option to setup a pin for someone under 18, who has their own MDE account. So, no charging privileges. No option on the web or app. CMs and IT said it was intentional.

I have 2 friends I travel with. They both have their own accounts. I can book Genie+ for them and also dining reservations. I also get their Photopass.

Hi! I'm going to piggyback on this thread. In the early stages of planning, some members did not have their own MDE, but I needed to add names for some of the reservations. We are going at the end of the month. There are 19 of them, plus 3 of us (me, DH and SIL). For the most part, we do not plan to hang around with them, only meet for dining reservations, etc. I made most of the plans and now lots of people show up in my MDE, some twice. I really only want the 3 of us in my MDE for genie+ planning and I don't need to see their tickets, etc. I'm afraid to delete the duplicate as I'm not sure which is which and am afraid they won't be on my dining reservations, should they arrive early and want to check in, and incidentals such as that. What should I do? The only duplicates that show up twice that I'm sure of personalized their accounts, so I know the ones without the personal pictures are the duplicates.
I guess to cut through I basically want to drop everyone from my plans except for the dining.

Also, even though some of the family members are on my dining reservation, but it says plans managed by someone else, can I delete them?

Honestly I would call the tech support #. Once all 6 adults in my family created their own MDE account we emailed back and forth so everyone would still appear in my account and I have their permission for the kids etc. They do for some purposes like party tickets but not for others like dining - I only see my husband and 3/5 grandkids. I’ve spent hours on this and had great help from this group but it’s still not right. I haven’t called for support yet. I can’t imagine working this out for 22 people.

You need to get the profiles merged. Once the other individual(s) created their own account/profile, it didn't link directly to the profile you had created. Depending on the plans you made -- if you delete the profile you manage it could remove them from...whatever you linked to them (resort, tickets, theme park reservations, dining, etc.).

For anyone looking to do this in the future we just used the QR code method for adding family members and it was seamless. As my adult children created their own accounts they texted me over their codes. I scanned to add them and the app actually asked me if I wanted to merge them into the existing (created as children) accounts in my MDE. So I did not actually end up with duplicates and the adult kids can access their kid years magic bands in their own accounts. Super shocked that all went so smoothly.

A couple years ago my hubby created his own account and I added him using the email method and then had two of him in my account. That could only be fixed with a call to Disney IT. So this is a huge improvement.

This doesn't really matter for dining, does it? Only that we have the correct number of guests. I'm sure it does matter for the room reservations, but I've told them to call and make sure they are on it. Since I know my way around fairly well, it fell on me to get the reservations, but as I said, I plan to do my own thing and don't want to have to stay glued to them all day. As they are almost all first-timers, I'm sure their indecision will end up driving me nuts. We have everything from over the moon excited to don't want to be there at all to don't want to spend any money.
That said, do I have to be present if I made the dining reservation? Since I'm the primary? For the most part, I will meet up with them, but I'm skipping a couple of the meals.
