an attraction called the "alien encounter" or so ? I went on it when i was last &first time to WDW (1999? 2000? something around that !) and it was in MGM studios (i think !)
it was about a human being send from a spaceship to earth but during the process he got transformed to an alien who was raging around. at that time my heart sank into my pants so scared i was. (im now alost 18 so i was about 11 or so at that time) it was terrible but also very fascinating !

i haven't read it about yet so does anyone remember it and know why it's gone?

I think you mean the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter in the Magic Kingdom. It's still there, but has been modified to become Stitch's Great Escape. Here's a link to info on the old ride: http://allearsnet.com/tp/mk/mk_alien.htm
thanks alot yusinskas, thats exactly what i meant :-) but is stritch's great escape also so scary ? The title makes it more sound like an attraction for littles ones...

as i said, in the extraterrorestrial alien encounter i sacred my self to death at that time but i dunno, it gives me a kick...i'd love to hit it again which is unfortunable impossible

In my opinion, they are completely different and I love the new ride more than the old one. The Alien's ride scared the life right out of me and I never went on it again. On the other hand we love Stitch's Great Escape and went on it a couple of times. Basically it follows the same path but instead of an alien escaping it is stitch and then the lights go down but instead of scaring you Stitch has a little fun with you as he bounces around and such and you feel the movement in your seat. He also spits at the audience and pops his head out from the ceiling. Like I said, he is a fun character that if you've seen the movie know he doesn't mean any harm.

Little kids might still be scared b/c of the darkness factor but we loved it. If you're looking for the same thrill from the Aliens attraction - sorry, I just don't think you'll find it with Stitch. I'm not sure how thrilling you're going for but for me the dinosaur ride in AK (not sure of the name) still scares the heck out of me. I've done it more than we did the alien ride and even though you know its coming I'm still freaked!

Oh and to answer your question of why its gone - I think because it was too scary even for adults and really turned a lot of people away.

Hope that helps!

:goodvibes Oh I loved Alien Encounter! I am not usually that into scary stuff. DH insisted we try it. It was so cool, definitely not for kids, but it was fun! SCARY, but fun!

Alien Encounter was by far my favorite attraction at Disney. I was sad when it went away... and though I think that Stitch's Great Escape is fun, it's just lacking (imho). I LOVED that it was scary, that the little ones didn't want to ride it.... *chuckles* What can I say, I liked the DARK of it. :rolleyes1

what do u consider little @UrsulasMyHero?
i was 11 when i rode it, i think thats little :)
are there any other scary rides at WDW ?

Nope, at 11 you're(were) cool, it's the 5 and 6 yr olds that are screaming because of it being dark and scary! At 11 dark and scary is a plus! *chuckles*

I don't know what kids you are used to (or maybe mine was a bit of a wuss), but at 11 years old my oldest boy went into hysterics on that ride. Scared the bejesus out of him!! Of course, it was my favorite ride at the parks, I loved how scary it was. Dinosaur at Animale Kingdom is still kind of scary but not anywhere near as scary as Alien Encounter!!

so there arent any condign successors AT ALL ?

what a shame !

i think i'd be at the age to enjoy it now but...hmm what a pitty but i still can't wait...there were better things i think, like ToT and all the 3dcinemas (they were my favs i think!) im used to all the up-side-down rollercoster rides from the oktoberfest over here in munich (u have heard of it, didn't u ? tell me !) so i love the show around the stuff, for example we have a attraction called freefall...its like ToT but without ToT if you know what i mean...just bare steal but no hotel, not show, nothing ! thats why i like WDW....its the magic :-)

I won't even go near the building. Alien Encounter scared the LIFE out of me. I'm one of those people that can't stand to not entirely know their surroundings.

I read that when they were about to open it, Eisner rode it and said it needed to be scarier. I think they made it just a little too scary for Disney.

My mom was a fan of Alien Encounter (would go on it without me) and HATES Stitch's great escape. She went on it in March and I think she's still mad at Disney. Said it was boring and I quote: "Stitch ruined everything."

Ummm... ones with Johnny Depp in them? She LOVES herself some Johnny Depp!

Funny question. She does love Disney movies and likes almost all Disney rides. She said that Stitch's Great Escape was boring and I think really missed Alien Encounter. Said it wasn't worth the wait (she went when it was a 10 minute wait) and that the queing areas were more interesting than the ride itself. Which are essentially the same queing areas for the original ride :confused3

They just took the scare and the Alien out of Alien Encounter and replaced it with Stitch. :confused3

DH, DS (then10yrs.) and I went on Alien Encounter back in 1997. When we got off, DS said "That wasn't scary at all!" Then I asked him "If it wasn't scary, then why is there no blood left in my hand that you were holding and why are you as white as a sheet?" He didn't know what to say :rotfl:

Two years ago when he was 16 we went back on and he loved it. Of course this time he knew what to expect.

DH & I were down in January 2005 and I was disappointed to see it replaced by Stitch. We didn't even go on it.
