Can Anybody Tell Me Why...

AM I SO HUNGRY?

I have been hungry since I woke up. Instead of having a yogurt for brekky, as I normally do, I had a protien bar, figuring I could handle the extra calories and halp stablize with the protien. By 10:00am, I was ravenous! I had a burrito. Again, reasonable calories and loads of protien. Here it is 1:20 pm and I am about to melt down. What gives? I have been drinking water like mad to help, but it just isn't doing the trick. Could it be that I'm exhausted and just think I'm hungry because I'm run down? Sometimes when I'm fatigued, I feel like eating all day, but this is a seriously unhappy, growling tum!
Any suggestions? I'm having a humongous salad right now and may have a glass of milk with it. That will bring my caloric intake to over 800 calories and the day isn't even half over. (I'm shooting for 1200-1500/day and have been pretty satisfied around the 1300 level until today!) Was thinking Subway for dinner (DS has a football game 4:30-6:30. Could they choose any other time but the dinner hour?), so that would only add another 300, if that's all I eat for the rest of the day, and that sounds pretty daunting. Couldn't have wine this evening that's for sure! ;) Anyone else with this problem? How did you deal with it?

I eat low-carb. I get ravenous if I eat only carbs. I do a bit better if I eat only protein. However, I notice I'm FULL for a long time if I'm eating enough fat.

If you're eating low-fat, I don't know how to help you, but if you're eating low-carb, then try to get more good fats into your food.

Are you PMS'ing by chance? That's the only time I'm ever hungry these days.

You said you had a protein bar...you would probably do better hunger wise if you stuck to a purer (is that a word) form of protein...hard boiled eggs, maybe a little sausage or bacon. I'm low carb, and an egg or two pieces of sausage keep me going (and full) until lunch time.

All and all, don't stress too much. We are all going to have days where we are ravenous...the key is to minimize them.
 
I agree - if you cut out some of the carbs and eat more fat/protein, you will feel fuller.

When I've tried to follow low-fat diets, I've found that I'm constantly hungry!! Since I've started Atkins and cut back on my carbs, I never feel hungry anymore. Sometimes I have to remind myself to eat! LOL!
 

I recently started taking fiber before meals to help curb my appetite. I've been doing a 16 oz glass of water or Fruit2O with 2 tsp. of pure fiber (no added taste). Its not very appealing, but it really cuts down my appetite.

LOL! Not this week. That was last week. I get incredible cravings then. Rivals any pregnancy I ever had!

As far as Low fat, I'm not on a LC or WW type plan. I just have reduced my portion sizes and have restricted my calories that way. I just checked my fitday profile and found that a full 36% of my calories are comming from fat. That actually surprised me. I agree with you a_t_WDW. A purer form of protien would be a better choice. That is why I had the burrito; full of animal protien. The protien bar was soy. The salad helped, but I know I won't make it til dinner. Maybe this is just too much calorie restriction for me. I tend to really restrict on days I know I'm not going to exercise, and that has been for the last 3 days. (T.O.M. is having its way with me! :mad: ) Maybe it's just catching up to me. I did set a pretty ambitious (for me, anyway) goal. I don't know. I'll just have to wait and see. Tomorrow I should be able to get to the gym, or at least do some strength training at home. Thanks for all the input! You guys are the best!
