Can a PTR be therapeutic?YUP!!Addictive?**2/14-I'm home...**

The trade off is that we don't have mud slides, huge fires, big earthquakes and Britney Spears like you do in CA.

Britney alone is reason not to ever move out here.

Earthquakes=not gud.:sad2:  It's pretty freaky when you can see the floor rippling.

That was definitely the best thing about living in SoCal! We moved from there back to Boston (Salem, MA actually) just in time for the year of 100+" of snow. There was snow piled on the sidewalks for months it seemed. Even just walking to the train station took about 50% longer than normal.

I must say I do miss just a little bit of seasonal change. Living in Portland, OR was great. It had seasons and just enough snow to make it feel like winter, but rarely enough to ruin my commute.

Well it starts by running your car for 1/2 hour to warm it up if it's not garaged. Around here in Central NH it usually doubles your commute time (at least) during or right after a snow storm.

Ugh, don't I know it! I'm only in CT and the weather hasn't been too bad yet, although today is absolutley freezing. Got the woodstove AND fireplace crankin';)

Hi Jordan!!!! Been busy (updated Sept. thread so you'll see why :sad2: ) but wanted to stop by and say HI! :yay:

Last monday when we had that awful storm...rather htan the 50 minutes it takes to get Boston it took over 2 hours and that was with me leaving the house at 5am. I-90 (that main highway in MA) wasn't even plowed... It wasn't fun.

Jordy NOW do you see why I said your brother is crazy for moving out here!?! It was like 13 below or something like that today with the wind chill. It's the kind of cold that you just can't shake once you've been exposed.

My commute to work is generally only about 15 minutes. When it's snowing it takes about 1/2 an hour to 45 minutes. There are a few reasons:

1) The plows have not come out yet (when there's 5 feet of snow)
2) There are 3 plows all on the same road/highway at the same time, in the same place, driving side by side, doing 10 miles an hour and you can't get around them (when there's half an inch of snow)
3) The plow(s) in front of you is/are going so fast that the snow is not actually being pushed to the side of the road, but rather is flying off the side or top of the plow and smashing into your winshield at 80mph. It's quite scary
4) You can't see that exact placement of potholes (and new ones pop up overnight around here) so you have to slow down a bit to avoid falling into one and taking out the front end of your car.

hey jordan! just subbing. found you on shmu's ptr, and had to come over. i'm only on page 1 and i'm leaving on wednesday (2 days, 2 days! no kids, no kids!  ) so i pretty sure i won't finish reading this, but i'm loving it so far. you're writing is funny, and do i sense a tiny bit of sarcasm? i love it!

ok back to the first page!

I'm telling ya'-or rather my Dh, if he moves me up to Ohio, I am not working, not shoveling my car out. Is is my lazy southern mentality?? Who knows-although WE are not lazy:sad2: !!! We really want to stay here but the company he works for is based up there and in NY. His boss told him if he continues on his path, he needs to look at moving that way in the next few years. He wants to stay here worse than me though-he DID say he'd move to Fla in a heartbeat. We are waiting for the bank he works for to purchase some banks there!!!

I think if you grew up in it, it's "normal" for you, as dodging hurricanes is "normal" to us-except for that every 30 year doozy....

I say, take your education, your experience and RUN!!!!!:cheer2:

Lori

Ohio is not really that bad in snow...we only get a couple of decent snowstorms a winter...5-6 inches at the most...the morning after the snowfall everything is back to normal...now NY gets a ton more snow than we do...but I guess I should say...live in any part of ohio but the cleveland area (thats where the snow belt is from the lake effect snow) My brother and SIL just moved there...SIL was from INdy...she kept on saying "remind me why I moved to the snowbelt??":rotfl:
