Can a "new" DVCer get on the waitlist?

I'd like to buy DVC property, but not SSR. I like SSR....but I like OKW and BWV better. Is it possible to get on the waitlist with DVC for one of these properties as opposed to going thru resale? Just curious. I never even thought to approach our guide with this topic? I just assumed you had to buy SSR if you are just entering into DVC.

You'll never know unless you call..... The worst they could say is no.

You should be able to buy direct for the sold-out resorts, but just be aware of what it will cost you financially.

Example (ficticious, but based upon current marketplace):

BWV Resale: 200 pts @ $74 = $14,800 for 38 yrs of ownership.

BWV Direct: 200 pts @ $89 = $17,800 for 38 yrs of ownership.

SSR Direct: 200 pts @ $85 = $17,000 for 49 years of ownership.

Given DVC's current pricing scheme, resales are a much better deal at the sold-out properties, even if it takes you a couple of tries to find the one you want. SSR is even a better deal right now, and includes 20% more ownership on the back end of the contract.

Don't forget that there are extra fees that can be incurred when buying resale -- maintenance fees for any current year points and closing costs. Yes, I know everything is negotiable but given the current ROFR climate, I'm not sure I'd ask for too much from the seller.

I was just curious about this...our resale is currently in review. This was more of a "hmmmm, I wonder" question. It just hadn't occured to me. I *may* give it a try if this new contract doesn't work out, but I've still got a week or two to find out. Just trying to keep all my options open.

Thanks for the advice :).

On resales pay particular attention to the fact that you may be buying a "stripped" contract. Meaning it may not have any points available until 2006.

We just did a small add-on through Disney and we got 2003 and 2004 points. Every small resale I was looking at was stripped. I value the points at about $10.00 a point (what they usually rent for on the DVC rental board). Also, with a resale the buyer usually pays the closing. This can add around $500 to your purchase. Disney pays the closing when you buy from them.

If you can find a resale that isn't "stripped" you can definitely beat Disney's direct price.
