Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

So glad to hear your doc visit was positive!!!!! That is awesome. And glad you had fun at the Drum and Bugle Corp show. They are a lot of fun - some very talented and hard working kids that's for sure. Which ones did you see (I can't keep track of where they are all from, I just know some of the names).

"Chris -- you have been so amazing and compassionate. Thank you so much for coming here to encourage me and for your very sweet PM's -- I seem to be avoiding all those opportunities to lean on anyone and share my feelings, but I know one day it is all going to come rushing out. Thank you for always being there with a kind word and your offer of a shoulder."

You are most welcome. I'm here whenever you need me. And you are right - they will come rushing out one day, trust me!!!!!!! And when that day comes and you need someone to yell at, talk to, whatever - PM me!!!

Keep on
Chris

Wow! Can't believe I haven't posted since Friday. So much has been going on that I have been distracted from journaling here. Fortunately, I have journaled every bite on my weight watchers journal. Today was weigh in and I stayed exactly the same. Considering what I have eaten in the past week, I guess I am fortunate!

Friday night:
Wanted veggie pizza for dinner, but persuaded my family I did not need another meal out.
Had:
5 oz whole wheat pasta (9 pts -- OUCH!)
1/2 c. fat free ricotta (2 pts)
canned tomatoes (0)

skinny cow ice cream (3)

Saturday:
walked 6.12 miles (earned 8 APs, which I needed desperately!) I was so totally thrilled with this workout. 6.12 is further than I have ever walked and we kept a great pace. We had stopped at 2.45 miles at Panera Bread (my weakness!) for breakfast, and I am convinced that the food was the fuel I needed to finish the second half of our walk. I think next time we will eat before we leave the house and see if I can do that distance without a break.

Breakfast: 3/4 bagel & 1/2 LF cream cheese (& coffee)

Snack: oreo crisps (3)

Lunch:
Fruit & veggies w/fat free ranch dip (5)
grilled chicken (2)
grilled steak (3)
taste of kielbasa (2)
grilled chicken (2)

Dinner:
Tastes of calamari, mussels, crab cake (4)
Broiled tilapia w/roasted garlic sauce (8)
roasted potatoes (3)
veggies (maybe a tiny bit of butter) (1)
bites of fried clam & cole slaw (4)

SO -- I used all 8 activity points and 10 flex points!!!! I am soooo lucky this day did not totally sabotage my cheat-free challenge.

Sunday -- sad day as we took DS to the camp bus. But I didn't eat emotionally, fortunately

Breakfast: dunkin donuts biscuit with egg & canadian bacon (8.5)
wawa jalapeno cheese pretzel--part (5)

Lunch: None except pretzels (2). I was still full from breakfast

Dinner:
grilled goodies:
Trader Joe's roasted garlic chicken sausage (2)
Trader Joe's southwestern turkey burger (2)
grilled chicken tender (2)
tomatoes in balsamic vinegar (0)

Dessert:
1/2 hard boiled egg -- odd, yes! (1)

Total 22.5 points -- not bad considering how badly the day started!

Monday:
Breakfast: lite english muffin w/grilled chicken tender (3)

Lunch: weight watchers bagel with southwest turkey burger (4)
cucumbers and tomatoes (0)

Snack: 1/2 fat free brownie (shared with my secretary -- I told her she was saving me from myself!

Dinner: southwestern chicken w/added chicken cutlet, canned corn, canned tomatoes (10)
broccoli (0)

Dessert: no pudge ice cream cone (2); sugar free chocolate (1); pretzels (2)

DH dragged me to the gym last night, even though I was definitely NOT up for it. I was grateful when I was done 30 minutes on the stationary bike (2 APs!). 30 minutes of exercise is better than none. He even went with me, even though he'd already been to the gym, just to be with me  and to encourage me when I wouldn't have gone otherwise! :goodvibes What a sweetie!

Today:
B: grilled chicken tender split across 2 lite english muffins (4)
L: southwest chicken, corn, tomatoes (6); broccoli (0)

Not sure what dinner will be, but probably more of the grilled leftovers from Sunday -- trader joe's roasted garlic chicken sausage or southwestern turkey burgers. YUM!

So, we haven't heard from DS yet from camp. Hopefully, tonight.

My plan to walk/jog a charity 5K tomorrow night went right out the window when DD's band director changed the family picnic from Thursday night to Wednesday night, so that students can go to the local theatre to watch DCI's finals broadcast live on the big screen. Great opportunity for them. I was hoping to persuade DH to go to see it with me, since he missed the show last Thursday night, but remembered he is teaching a class Thursday night. Oh, well. Maybe I will find a friend to go.

Well, after being "gone" for almost 4 days, I am glad I am caught up. I have missed everyone here.

Will try to get to journals later tonight.

Hi Cam!!!

Missed ya!! Glad you're posting! :) Sounds like you had a pretty good weekend and make the most of your activity/flex points. That roasted garlic chicken sausage sounds delish! Good job not emotional eating when you dropped off your DS too!!

Hope that you have a great night!
Mike :goodvibes

Tracy-- I am really excited that the trip is only 10 days away, but got terrible news yesterday. My friend broke a bone in her ankle and is completely out of commission as far as walking, for 6 weeks. Am trying to educate myself on how to get us around the airports, hotel & parks with her on crutches and a wheelchair. We are both really looking forward to the trip and I am determined to make sure she has a wonderful time. Wish me luck!

Yikes Cam!! Sorry to hear about your friend's ankle! Has she considered renting an ECV from an off site location? Several have them waiting for you when you get to your hotel and it would mean you didn't have to push a wheelchair through the warm FL heat. If you need more info there is a sticky on the DISabilities board that helped me a lot! :)
Wow, WDW in 10 days!! Jealous of yoU!!!! hehe!

Mike

Not bad Cam on the stuff that you ate - there were a few things that I thought Oh No but you did good with the exercise and made up for it in other ways. Hope you have heard from you son and that all is going well for him!!!

Sorry to hear about your friend but I'm sure you WILL be able to go and still have a totally AWESOME time!!!! When you get to the airport - just ask them if there is anything they can do at the next airport to help you out - especially if you have a layover and need to change planes. I'm sure they'll be happy to help if they can.

Keep up the good work!!

Keep on

Thanks, Mike! I may be able to persuade her to rent one in MK, but not sure. Money is a big issue with her DH and I think I will just try to borrow a wheelchair at our resort. If I can't borrow one there, we will rent one in the parks.

Today, I am pretty down about the situation (or it could be PMS :confused3 ) -- I am so sad that this was supposed to be an amazing weekend for her, away from the stress and strain of all her commitments, and I think her injury actually adds a level of stress for her that I hope won't impact her ability to enjoy this trip.

I really have to figure out what to do about a lot of issues. For example, we weren't going to check any baggage at all, and just use a carryon each, so that we won't have to wait for luggage or wait for it to arrive by Magical Express. We can just carry our bags with us to the bus and unpack immediately upon arriving at the resort. Now, I am not sure if that is the best thing for DF -- of course, if we just commit to using a wheelchair the whole time in the airport, she could carry both our bags on her lap. :confused3 I really have to give it some more thought.

Dinner last night was open face WW bagel (2) with 2 southwest burgers (4) and fat free cheese (1) and tomato slices (0); some broccoli (0); tomatoes in balsamic vinegar (0) -- total of 7 points for a HUGE dinner when I was so unbelievably hungry. Dessert was a small bite of each of two different cookies and a couple of pretzels (1) -- for some reason, it seems that after I eat something sweet, I literally CRAVE something salty. :confused3 This may be a habit I should work on breaking.

Overslept again this morning, but still forced myself to get out for a short walk. Only 1.4 miles (22:35) -- 16:09 pace. I went in the wrong direction when I left my house :confused3 , so it was almost all uphill! :earseek: How stupid of me! Next time I am going to do only that "short walk", I will try the same thing going in the other direction and will see if the time improves considerably. My next objective is to figure out how to set my Garmin for intervals -- I think it will beep to indicate when I should walk and run. I will try to do walk 4/run 1 minute and see if I can keep that up. Actually, if I am going to do that tomorrow, I will go over to the fountain walk to do it, since that is flat without cracks and bumps that you find in the road and sidewalk. That way, I can focus on the intervals (regardless of speed), rather than watching the terrain.

Breakfast this morning was 4 turkey sausage (2) and egg beaters (1) at 7:30 a.m. -- interestingly, I am still full and have not needed a snack or gum. I think the pure protein made the difference. I have heard I should try not to eat carbs and protein at the same meal, and that protein will likely keep me satisfied longer. I may try this for breakfast for a while and see if a pattern emerges.

Lunch is 2 flat wraps (4) with low fat turkey (2) and green beans (0). If it is another hungry day, I will get a no point green salad to fill up the empty spaces.

Dinner is going to be subway sandwiches that we will bring to the band picnic-- I am off to check the website to see what I want to eat. :)

Edited to add: My scale said I am down 1.5-2 pounds this morning! If it holds tomorrow, I will claim my 30 pound ribbon!!! :cloud9:  :cool1: Since my weight loss is so cyclical, I am hoping this holds this week, as I will surely be up next week!

Hi Cam!!

Can't wait to see your new ribbon!!! :) You deserve it for all of your hard work!!!

I hope that you can figure out some good solutions for the issues with your trip and that your friend has little to no stress during it! She can't control the injury now so she might as well go with the flow and enjoy the Disney magic! hehe :)

Hope that all goes well today!! Have a great one!
Mike :sunny:

cross posted from training thread:

Well, after another late night (11:40 to bed), I dragged myself out this morning at 6. UGH! I cannot keep doing this. NOTE TO SELF: Get to sleep earlier!

Did a 5 minute warmup walk and then jogged the first 1 minute of every 5 minute interval, like this
0-5 -- walk
5-6 -- jog
6-10 -- walk
10-11 -jog
11-15 - walk
15-16 - jog
16-20- walk
21-22 - jog
22-25 walk
25-26 jog
26-30 walk
30-31 jog -- I hit 1.98 miles at 31 minutes.
cool down for a couple minutes after that.

I think that was about a 15:40 pace, but more important to me was that I was able to jog 6 x 1 minute. Haven't tried this in months (since my disastrous "abort" of the couch to 4K plan

Dinner last night was a 6" subway honey oat roll (4) with one slice provolone (1) and lots of veggies. Then a chicken sausage on flat wrap (2). Had a no pudge ice cream cone (2) and a couple chips & pretzels (1).

The scale was down enough this morning to give me my next WISH ribbon. Off to claim it now!

Congrats on the new clippie, Cam!!

You are doing AWESOME!!!

You are so disciplined with your training! I'm IMPRESSED!!!

Have a great Thursday!

Thanks, Julie!

Hmmmm. .. . YUMMY lunch! One Lean Cuisine chicken in peanut sauce (6) over a huge salad of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers & broccoli. The sauce is so delicious there is no need for dressing. Awesome way to have a huge yummy lunch for only 6 points!

Stopped at the local store and bought some yummies for tonight's live telecast of DCI at our local theatre -- soy crisps (4), a pepperoni beef stick (2) and gum (0). The telecast is 6+ hours, so I may end up buying a small popcorn no butter, too.

Way to go on the new clippie!!!!! That is awesome!

Keep up the good work. You are doing great!

Hope you are having a wonderful day

Hi, Mike! DCI is Drum Corps International! One of my many music-oriented passions. I was in a drum and bugle corps when I was a teenager (back in the dark ages). The National Championship quarterfinals were nationally broadcast from the Boston area last night to movie theatres in nearly every state in the country. It started at 5 and went until about 10:30. My favorite corps all did really well. DDalmost17 auditioned for Crossmen, so they are a favorite (about 8 kids we know are in it) -- they finished 13th and made it to semi-finals tonight. Cadets (their "brother" corps) finished in first place (another local favorite -- they are from right down the street, practically). And Cavaliers finished in 2nd (DD's colorguard instructor marched with them and DD and I and her DI (dear instructor) were all cheering them on in the theatre. Amazing experience! All die hard DCI fans, lots of alums remembering the good all days, and a lot of band members and colorguard members who were incredibly impressed and (as-hoped), incredibly inspired! AWESOME, AWESOME experience. Even better than last week's show, because we saw about 16 corps and while they were setting up, the show producers ran clips of highlights of past shows, including many clips from my marching years! Did I mention how much fun I had!?!??!?! :teeth:

Thanks, Jen! I am hoping this means I am past my plateau -- I was down a little bit more this morning (I know next week will be a "bump up" but I am expecting it and am okay with it.)

I am really looking forward to getting away. I am going to buy the new Unofficial Guide tonight so that I can figure out how to get us around the parks with a wheelchair. I feel so bad for Judy because she was looking forward to this so much. I am hoping she will realize that we will have a fabulous time even while she is in a wheelchair.
