Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Hi Cam,

Your workouts are looking good!:cool1: Keep up the good work!

How did your reunion go? Hope you had a great time!:goodvibes

Have a great Monday!

Thank you, Tracy!! The reunion was very nice, though there were fewer people there than I'd expected. It was such a nice day of wandering around campus, looking at all the dorms & the townhouse that I lived in during my four years there. Howard and I also went to Campus Pizza (a place we loved but could barely afford as an occasional treat while we were there). We had gyros and pierogies & fries -- what a blast from the past! The campus has changed so much in 23 years but there were a LOT of favorite spots to visit.
When we left there we tried a restaurant I'd heard of but had never seen -- Bucca di Beppo. It was fabulous, fabulous Italian food.

Yesterday, Jenn and I went shopping for her Maid of Honor dress for our vow renewal. I really just wanted to decide on a color so I could get a swatch to take to the planning session in a couple of weeks. But we found a style and a color that were so absolutely gorgeous on her that we ordered it right then and there.

Stacie

Thank you, Stacie!

Well, I did something this morning that I was NOT supposed to do. I RAN. The C25k plan called for a rest day today but I just felt that I wanted to try to do a 5k distance and to push myself a bit.

I did my warmup as a slow jog of 3 mins at 4.3. Then I did anywhere between 4.5-5.0 mph depending on how I was feeling. The major thing was to try to run the entire time without slowing to a walk at all. The last time I'd tried to run an entire 5k distance was on October 14. I only slowed to a walk a couple times during that race and only for moments each time but I ended up hurting my hip pretty badly, so I haven't tried running the whole distance at all since then.

But I did it today!!! :woohoo: :yay:

Total time was 40:23 because I went to 3.14 miles by mistake (not paying enough attention). I am thrilled that my pace translated to a 5k time of less than 40 mins -- if I'd stopped at 3.1 miles, I would have been at 39:52!!!! OMG!!!! I cannot believe I did that. My goal has been to finish a 5k in less than 40 minutes!!

It definitely was NOT easy. And I have no illusions that it will be easier outside. I just needed to do it for my own sake. I am really uncertain whether I'd be able to do it in a race situation, especially with my vision issues and being very cautious, but now that I know I have that in me, I am more confident than ever about improving my abilities on an ongoing basis!

Today's workout:
TM -- 3.14 miles -- 40:23 -- 472 calories

Food:
pre-gym -- lite multi-grain english muffin w/1 slice fat free cheese; coffee w/skim milk
post-gym -- bagelful
snack -- pear
lunch -- green salad; grilled chicken; whole wheat roll-up

Yay Cam!!! This is fantastic! My hero. I want to get below 40 min too!!!

Keep up the good work girl!!!

Congrats again! :dance3:

Stacie

Thank you, Howard! :lovestruc  :cloud9:

Thank you, Stacie! I am looking forward to the next time I get to try it, to see if I can get more of a sub-40:00 cushion. Tomorrow is C25k W8D2. Maybe, since I only have to run for 28:00, I will try to boost the speed a little. :cool1:

CONGRATS, Cam!!! That's so awesome!! You already have that runner's addiction...skipping rest days....seeing if you can beat your time on the next run.

I love the dress too! Beautiful color!

You can do it! Go Cam GO!!!! :cheer2:

Thank you, Stacie! Your faith in me means a lot!

Thanks, Kim! The "addiction" part had me  Now, if I could just UNDO my food addiction, I might actually be "DRESS READY" by the time the gown arrives in October.

Way to go, Cam!!!! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Thank you, Tracy!

So, I did C25k W8D2 with my training partner today. It wasn't as intensely grueling as I might have expected considering it was the third morning in a row that I ran. :cool1: I am SOOOO relieved about that!

Today's workout:
Bike -- 12 minutes -- 2.08 miles - 100 calories
TM -- 37 minutes (incl. 5 mins w/u and 4 mins c/d at 4.0mph & 28 mins at 4.7, 5.0 mph) -- 2.82 miles -- 400 calories
Totals for the day -- 49 mins -- 4.9 miles & 500 calories

Food:
pre-gym (6 am) -- lite MG english muffin w/1/2 ham steak, coffee w/skim milk (3.5)
B (9 am) -- whole wheat bagelful (4); coffee w/skim milk (.5)
S (11:15)-- apple (1); fiber muffin (1)
L: green salad w/grilled chicken; whole wheat roll up (5)

Today's workout:
TM -- 2 miles -- 25 minutes (300 calories) -- Pace 12:30 OMG!!!! :yay: :woohoo: :faint:
Bike -- 2 miles -- 11 minutes -- 52 calories

I absolutely cannot believe that I have RUN 4 days in a row. Here are my miles for this week on the TM:
Monday – 2.66 miles
Tuesday – 3.14 miles
Wednesday – 2.82 miles
Thursday – 2 miles

I have RUN 10.62 miles this week!!

Oh, and I had a bunch of other miles on the elliptical and bike. But did I mention that I RAN 10.62 miles this week? Even my warmups were very slow jogs, so I am counting those fractions toward my running total.

I'm really excited. In case you couldn't tell.

At weigh in I stayed exactly the same. Shouldn't have had all that water at the gym. Oh, well!

Food today:
B: sesame bagel with scrape of cream cheese
S: lite multi-grain english muffin w/small piece ham
L: whole wheat roll up w/lite turkey & mustard; lite popcorn; apple

wow Cam you have been amazing with your workouts & running
I'm sooo pleased for you

See? More "brilliant minds" and all that! :rotfl:

Thanks for the encouragement, but you should definitely NOT do too much at the gym, especially if you can't breathe, young lady!!! (now, where is that "mom" shaking her finger smiley?)
