Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Thank you, Kim & Jen! :grouphug:
I did pretty well last night at applebees, though not perfect. Since I get 35 weekly flex points and activity points for non-core foods, I splurged and had 3 boneless wings & some of Andrew's fries. The WW onion soup and the WW cake also use points since they aren't core (6 there), but I am pretty sure the steak, plain baked potato, and steamed broccoli are all core. :yay:

Today's workout:
40 minutes strength training
I have that 5k tomorrow so I didn't want to tire my legs and I wanted to do a full workout of the plan Jeff made for me, to see how long it would take. It is a pretty solid 30 mnutes of upper body and I did another new piece of equipment that is for cardio without wokring the legs.

LOTS to do today to get ready for the trip since I plan to work all day tomorrow.

I realized this morning that I just can't do core this week, though I can eat mostly core foods when I have a choice. Things are just too crazy, so I switched to flex and I am going to move Thursday and Friday's food to my pocket journal to see where I am.

Food yesterday:
post-workout B: egg beaters w/peppers (2) & lite english muffin (1)
L: grilled chicken w/1 slice cheese & 1/2 flat out wrap (5)
S: 1/2 order of mixed fries & onion rings (5); diet soda
D: LC panini (6); microwave popcorn (1); 2 pretzel sticks (.5)

You're doing really GREAT, Cam! I can't believe how good your running is!!

Food is really good, too! That weight is gonna be comin' off!!

have a good week!!

Thanks, Julie!
Sadly, I am seeing little to no movement on the scale. I am really hoping that the strength training will improve the scale situation. I'm not sure how long I can continue to be so disciplined if I am not seeing any results.

Today's 5k went pretty well. My workout partner and I stayed together until 1.54 miles and then I wanted to try to run a bit more. She was only seconds behind me at the finish, so I am really proud that she did so well on her second ever 5k, beating Thursday night's race by 3 minutes.

My finish time was 41:27. That may be a new PR for me if I am remembering that my real PR is 42:05. More important to me has to be that I am running almost all of the course. I had to slow to a walk right before a mile because of heat in both my achilles tendons due to the hill on this course. It just convinces me I have to add some incline work to my treadmill training.

My 5k on the fourth of July IS going to be my first-ever sub-40:00 5k. I am hell-bent and determined to make that happen. I just have to be sure that 8 days of vacation leading up to that first day home do not wreck all of my momentum.

Food today:
pre-race (7:15 am) -- 1/2 power bar
post-race (9:30)-- 3 slices bacon, 1/2 sesame bagel, cut fruit
snack (11:30 -- soo hungry here at work) -- weight watchers breakfast muffin sandwich
lunch (will be ~2:00) -- green salad w/fat free feta & kalamata olives
snack -- green salad w/lean cuisine santa fe rice & beans on top
dinner -- 2 lean turkey burgers; 1 1/2 whole wheat flat out wraps; 2 slices fat free cheese
dessert -- 1/2 WW caramel apple muffin; WW ice cream bar; 6 honey pretzel braids

I can't believe we leave for our planning session, 2 days in WDW and our 4 day DCL cruise in just 3 days. We got a LOT of shopping done yesterday, and today DH got DSalmost15 a pair of crocs. I think we should now have everything we need to pack. I am hoping to have most of it done tonight. :woohoo:

---------------------------
Okay, that was an insane amount of food. I was absolutely voracious all day, probably (partly) because I didn't properly fuel for the 5k and mostly because I had no discipline. HAVE to get back on track. I had about 2,000 calories today  and even if I did burn 470 on the 5k course, that calorie intake is NOT going to help my effort to move the scale (unless I beat it to hell and back and THEN throw it out the window. :lmao: ) UGH!

Today's workout--
Elliptical -- 30 minutes -- 2.56 miles -- 328 calories
Strength training -- 30 solid minutes upper body with Jeff

B: diced lean ham; coffee w/skim milk; apple
L: whole wheat flat out wrap;lean turkey burger; fat free cheese; green salad; apple
S: lite popcorn, grilled chicken breast
D (Italian restaurant for Howard's birthday): italian bread (2 whole pieces); fried calamari; tastes of lasagna, stuffed shells & gnocchi
dessert: 1 mini chocolate donut; WW chocolate muffin

Stacie

Thank you so much, Stacie! I think you are a little angel appearing to cheer me up today, because you reminded me of the fact that I was recently THRILLED to be at a sub - 15 minute pace at a race and I should probably be even more THRILLED that my pace yesterday in a race with a deadly hill in the middle was 13:26! I just hadn't thought about that enough. I definitely HAVE to be excited about that. :cool1: Thank you, sweetie!

That's an AWESOME pace, Cam! And hills???????:worship: :worship: :worship:

If I don't get back here, I hope you have an AWESOME planning trip & cruise!!! RELAX!!!!!!!

Thanks, Julie! I am so glad that you'll be in Florida in just 3 weeks! It's great that you have that to look forward to!

congrats on the 1 lb loss Cam - i used to think the 'only' word too, but now i've had it drilled into me that its better to lose a little as its supposed to stay off then! :)
Great job on the running, lucky you to be off on the cruise & WDW soon - not long now :)
Have a great trip if i dont get back in time :)

Great job on the run, Cam!:thumbsup2

That is wonderful that your cruise and WDW trip are almost here!!!:cloud9: I hope you'll tell us all about your trip when you get back. :cloud9:

Have a wonderful, wonderful vacation, Cam!!!

Hi Cam! 13:26!!! Whoo Hoo! Maybe one day I'll be as fast as you! :goodvibes

How did your workout go this morning?

Are you all packed and ready for Vaca?

Stacie

Thanks, Tracey, Tracy & Stacie! YAY! Our vacation starts Thursday and even though I haven't even figured out yet what to pack (except my workout clothes! :rotfl: ), I am getting very psyched!

Workout this morning --
TM - -incline 4.0% -- 30 minutes -- 2.03 miles -- 272 calories

Food:
B: coffee w/skim milk; banana; lean turkey & lean ham
S: WW pretzel crisps; WW chocolate mint bar
L: green salad w/fat free feta; grilled chicken on whole wheat flat out
S: WW 1 pt peanut butter bliss bar; lite popcorn; lean turkey

UGH! I am stress eating. I'll be very good for the rest of the night. Pre-vacation weigh in is tomorrow. :scared:

In a lot of ways, I think you and I are alike with the food challenges, and so I always love reading your journal. I love food, especially social situations and food, so I can't imagine not eating for more than fuel. But then I read your posts and think, but what's MOST important about the food for me? It's the good times I associate with the food. I need to work on that, without falling into my old trap that seeing "food as fuel" is secretly depriving me of some kind of joy. So thank YOU, Cam, for providing me with my lightbulb moment.

Speaking of lightbulb moments, add me to the list of people who think it doesn't matter what motivates us to adopt healthier lifestyles. It's all good if it becomes habit. (With the exception of doing harm to others--although sometimes I do want to become a hard-body so that I can fulfill a lifelong fantasy of being a kick-a$$ a$$a$$in. :rotfl2:) If it's all about the dress, that's all good. It'll get you there. For me, my initial goal was to look decent in a picture for once, without the pained "I don't want to a permanent record of this moment" expression.

I know I've said it in other places, but congratulations on your two, very near-back-to-back 5Ks and for running with buddy! (Should I mention her name here? IDK. :confused3) You both rock! And a 13:26 pace, with a hill. So worth celebrating! I also love that you have a specific time goal for your 4th of July 5K. I think having those goals is generally a good idea, and hope to get to that point someday. (Right now, coming up with goal times is just too much pressure for me.)

And I think your eating has been going well. It looks like you're getting a lot of fresh fruits, veggies, and good proteins into your days. (I don't like broccoli, but I eat it; it's so good for you.)

Your WDW/DCL trip is right around the corner! :woohoo: Have you got your workout/eating/FUN plans in place? I see you got lots of the shopping done. More details if, that is, you aren't in the middle of packing and the pre-trip time crunch. :rolleyes1

Thank you for all of your insight and encouragement, Debra. I agree that so much of the pleasure we take in eating has to do with the socialization that often comes with it, whether it's a party, eating out at a restaurant, or just eating in the lunchroom with our staff, those are the situations in which I tend to eat too much. I have to be more cognizant of that and seize control.
Oh, and yes, I am very fortunate to have Patty (pjstevens) to share my morning workouts and the races. It certainly helps me to stay motivated, and to really push myself on race day. :cool1:

This morning's workout:
elliptical -- 10 minutes -- 1 mile - 106 calories
30 minutes strength training (with Jeff)

We leave tomorrow for 3 days in WDW and our 4 day DCL cruise. I am hoping to run several times over the course of the vacation, though with 7:30 and 8:10 breakfast ADRs it might be hard to carve out the time. It will be kind of awkward as well because we are vacationing with our friends and my DMIL who do not "get" this whole workout thing and may not be very encouraging about Howard or me carving out time for running or fitness center workouts. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can come back content with whatever I did food and fitness-wise.

Have a wonderful time, Cam! You have come so far that you will do fine! Just relax, enjoy & PLAN!!!!!!

Stay safe!!

Wow! I feel so behind! ;) I cannot believe how much I have to tell my WISH buddies! Our trip was June 26-July 3 and it was absolutely fabulous!

Here was our itinerary:
Thursday – arrive MCO 9:30 a.m., rent car, check in to POP Century, go to tasting session and planning session for our vow renewal at Grand Floridian, then return to POP for dinner and unpacking
Friday – breakfast at Kona, then to EPCOT until 3:00 pm when Howard, Andrew & I left for a couple of hours to rent a tuxedo for DS for the vow renewal, and Howard’s accessories. Then we returned to EPCOT for dinner and dessert & Illuminations
Saturday – breakfast at Crystal Palace at 8:10 a.m., then spent the day in Magic Kingdom straight through to Spectromagic at 9 and WISHES fireworks at 10pm. Then back to POP to pack.
Sunday – left POP at 10 a.m. and boarded the WONDER for 4 night cruise.
Monday – Castaway Cay
Tuesday – Nassau
Wednesday – Castaway Cay (Howard and I stayed on the ship)
Thursday – return to port and fly back to PHL.

It really was a great trip with our friends (a family of 4) and my DMIL, who had only been to WDW once -- with us and my parents and my dear (step) Father-in-Law in August 2003. My DSFIL and DM and DF have since passed away, so it was bittersweet to be back in WDW without them, but we all had a great time. My DMIL had never been on a cruise, either, so it was a lot of fun to take her. She kept saying that she LOVED being waited on and someone cleaning her cabin and making her bed – “So, this is how the OTHER HALF lives!” was her frequent comment.

The only regret I have about the trip is how little I worked out. We were so exhausted each morning after traveling or wandering the parks all day that we did not get up to run while in WDW. I did run on the ship on Monday, but much later than I’d planned (about 7:15 am), so it was already warm and humid. After that, I was having frequent heat/humidity headaches and then as of Tuesday, some kind of stomach bug (probably from too rich foods), so I wasn’t feeling up to much beyond being very lazy. However, I did get right back on track this past Saturday (but more on that in the next post.)

Oh, and in case anyone is interested, I posted a trip report about our menu tasting session and planning session (with lots of pix of delicious food!) in my vow renewal planning journal at post 746 here : http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1659796&page=50
