Camping at Disney..worth it?

We just returned from Disney last week. Now we are really considering using the campground. We only live 3 1/2 hours away and have our own camper. This trip we really only want to camp (not go to the parks) and only want to maybe go for 3 days (actually Friday, Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving). Would this be worth it? Is there enough to do there to make the drive? It would be myself, husband and 4 year old grandson. Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I would check out the camping board; here is a link to it:

You will find a lot of information over there about camping.

I would think the only thing would be availability at this point - people don't start leaving from T-giving week until Saturday/Sunday.

You might want to get on the Disney site to see if there is even availability in the campground for Friday and Saturday.

I just checked the website and there are no campsites available for those dates; only the Cabins. The only thing you can do is call and find out if someone has canceled.

I agree availability will be an issue for sure - betting FW was filled up over 1/2 year back for that weekend.

As for whether camping at FW is "worth it" ...

YES!

Hands down, FW is the worlds best campground. I've stayed in hundreds to compare to. FW is one of the most expensive campgrounds around, but worth it. What other campground do you know of that has: boats to the MK, 3 restaurants, fantastic pool, internal bus system, 2 stores, nightly campfire(s)/movie/Chip & Dale sing-along, stables and you can watch the electrical water pageant from the beach?

... I do miss the train, trams, petting farm and live lawn mower tree though :sad1:

If I lived close by I would give it a try. I love camping and go every year to Maine. But I love how the campground has so many activities to do along with the parks. I could see how camping at Disney would be so much fun. The only reason I haven't tried is I wouldn't want to rent gear. I'm really picky about the condition of stuff when I camp. Especially with a camper I'd give it a try.
