Campground Etiquette?

. . . give it about 2 or 3 months and you'll find yourself at the nearest RV dealer looking at them. Then when you need advice on what to look for in a camper, we'll be right here waitin' for ya . . .

RV's are just like boats and Harleys . . .
. . . there are always bigger ones calling to you *
. . . there are always more expensive ones calling to you
. . . there are always those who will give you advice on which one to buy

* Except for Boma_Ed, who downsized, now his kids are in college.
Don't know about him, but MrsRustyScupper and I loved it when we became Empty Nesters and both girls were away at school.

Skipper,

To set the record straight, I will have a 3rd child in college AT THE SAME TIME as the other two (she's my last one) for this summer (before the first graduates). She's going to take some dual enrollment classes during her senior year at high screwel. Anyone wishing to make contributions to my college bills can PM me and you can bet I will respond!

I down-sized my camper and am glad I did. I can go any where, fit in almost any site, turtle at any willing Wal-Mart, and my tow vehicle only loses 2 mpg when towing. I have heard the siren calls of the dark side, the lovely ladies calling me to hybrid, a travel trailer, a 5er, a Class B, or the Team Class A bus. In fact, since I ditched my canvas popup I have planned to fly south with the snow birds between Christmas and New Years (well after the NY bowl games) and enjoy my hard sided folding popup at the Redneck Riviera at Gulf Shores State Park. Couldn't have done that in the canvas popup (not comfortably). May even take Mrs. Bama Ed along....

BTW, never been to the Boma restaurant. I regard AK has a half day park so I never go there. I have a camper so going to AKL ranks low on the list of things to do. Never been there. Buffets like Boma's are why I had to run Half Marathons so I rarely go there (TE this last trip was first time in a few years).

I'm looking forward to being an empty nester - knowing the kiddos will never be far (digitally speaking) away. Mrs. Bama Ed is the complete opposite but she's the type that will worry during the drive to a destination but then enjoy it once she gets there.

So back on topic for stobaugh6. Thanks for asking about etiquette in the campground. As someone else said, that fact alone that you asked means you would be a good neighbor.

As a Florida native....I will say prepare for ants as well as other insects. One year we were at the the Fort with our children, and there was a family in the same loop who let their children run wild. They called the boy (probably around 7) "Gangsta." I can't tell you how much fun that was. Gangsta and his parents tormented everyone in the loop 'til all hours of the night. They were loud. Gangsta would very nearly run over us on his bike. His parents would loudly tell him that he could do what he whatever he wanted! It was one of our worst trips!

I had to repeatedly remind myself that children learn what they live. That was why Gangsta acted like he did, so I had to behave in a way that would demonstrate how my own children should react..what would Jesus do...and not just as a saying or a bracelet. But I'm here to tell you, it was hard. It was also an amazing life lesson for my kids and for me.

Thank you all for taking the time to answer my question! I have a feeling my hubby will be wanting to buy a TT shortly after we get back from disney. Lol! We have talked about it for years. :)

There's nothing like having your very own home away from home!

Good luck and have a wonderful trip :)

1) Yep.
2) I spell it H-O-T-E-L . . . Or, in the case of The Fort, C-A-B-I-N.
3) On day, I assume a TT is in my driveway.
4) If for nothing else, than to camp at The Fort.

Some slightly annoying disrespectful issues we have experienced are first and foremost not keeping quiet time hours. We've all experienced I think large loud parties that go well into the night. Next is not respecting your neighbor's space and site. It can be irritating when other campers have extra vehicles or guests that park way out into the road or close or on top of your site. Also people that put up tons of tents that spread out into your space. And lastly please be careful with the golf carts, we find we go to some campgrounds where there are golf cart racing literally, and have almost gotten hit or our pets many times. Our favorite beach campground we go to very few walk or ride a bike like we do, and it's not a large campground. Everyone flies around on golf carts and you have to literally dodge them. This is mostly done by teens and tweens driving without their parents, but I've seen parents in the golf carts with them and this still being done. :crutches::car:

That's me in the middle and my two oldest daughters. :)
Cute family. And I thought my DW and I were the only ones to be 40 on our 20th anniversary. Congrats! I think we were babies now. I tell my DS17 that we were his age when I was dating mom. All he says is "you're old now". Thanks.

It's certainly a fever. Do yourself a favor and take time looking and considering what you really want. It seems many of us buy and trade up quickly at first. We went from a hybrid to a TT, then to our 5er in 2 1/2 years. We've had this 5er now for 12 years. Apparently took 3 tries to get it right.

Wow! Gangsta? They are really setting their kid up for success in life!

This is my second TT and both have been about the same size. First was a 26 footer this one is 25 overall length is 30ft. Great for the two of us and the occassional nephew. More than that we would have required more trailer. And at 44, I am not old, I am just getting started.

Always share your leftover coffee (Vince, that's for you)

Also ended up giving a few packs of hot dogs to the people with kids across from us before we left.

Along with not cutting through others sites, and trying to keep control of young ones, we always drive to the parks, and when we return it's usually dark so we turn off our headlights when backing into our site, so they are not shining in other people's tents or RV's. We also close our doors softly instead of slamming then when we get back.

We started with a tent, then a popup. We bought the popup brand-new, top of the line. Figured we liked camping and a popup is really a luxury tent with real mattresses, AC, heat and running water. We got bitten by the RV bug HARD in the 3 months we owned the popup. I noticed that people generally did this gradual trade up from popup to travel trailer to fifth wheel to motorhome, then often back to fifth wheel again. I figured at this point we should just skip all that and get a fifth wheel. One of the best things we ever did! That was 12 years ago and we just got a new fifth wheel last year. Hope to have this one for another 10 to 12 years. :)
