We have our Fort Wilderness approved covered, fire pit; however, DH is wondering if we should pack it for our Easter visit. Is there a current fire band? I tried a google search; but neither orlando nor lake buena vista open fire band brought up anything helpful. Happy Holy Week!

There are no local fire bans there to my knowledge. An approved fire pit is one that is completely contained, and has a solid top - can have mesh sides. It's commonly called an outdoor fireplace, or camper/patio fireplace.

This time of year is *very* windy so just use judgement on building fires in a fireplace, and never leave it hot in case the wind would blow it over when you aren't there. Just a reminder of what the winds can do - see pics of the storm that passed through a few days ago!

The Fort bans/ prohibits fires during dry and otherwise dangerous conditions. With all the pine needles one spark could be devastating.

There is no fire ban as of yesterday, but make sure you bring your own firewood. We ran out last week.....it was COLD. The front desk will bring you quite a bit for $25, but it's pine. The oak firewood we brought didn't flake and ash, but the pine the Fort provided made a huge mess and flaked out of the fire badly. To me, THAT was a fire hazard. They were quite nasty as well when DH and the kids went looping and I ran in to use the restroom and I heard someone honking their golfcart. Stuck my head out to see a very overweight Fort security guard sitting in his cart at the back of our site telling me to get with my fire or he'd put it out. We've never been talked to by anyone in security in 13+ years and our first experience wasn't pleasant. When I told him I had just stepped inside, he told me he didn't care what I was doing.

Anyway, we also found out that tiki torches aren't allowed, but I didn't see that on any of the rules.

Actually the state of FL does have an open burning ban, year round. They take it very serious this time of year because this is "brush fire season" so the only fire that are allowed are the little covered fire pits that Disney approves, which was stated above.

My point was that Fort Wilderness will post when they do not allow fires at the campsites even in the "Fort approved" pits. At this time, there is not ban on fires at the sites as of today when we left.

I ran into the tiki torch ban at the Fort also, thegoofyfamily. Those are one of my favorite decorations for my site too. Oh well, i can understand why.

I can too......and we actually only lit them the first night since the cold weather didn't necessitate them. But, late Halloween will be interesting without them. We don't get much of a break from the bugs until January in Florida! Citronella candles at the Fort at Halloween are kinda silly.
