Do any of you use filters on your digital cameras? Does it make much difference? Are there certain brands that are better than others? Thanks...

I have filters on the lenses for my digital SLRs, but just a UV filter. I use it mostly as a method of protecting the lens glass, so the filter gets scratched, not the actual lens. Just replaced them, in fact. Much, much cheaper than replacing the lens glass itself (or buying a new lens). Other than that, I've really never mastered the idea of filters, so I just prefer to go without.

I read that the polorized filter makes all the colors look more vibrant. I am getting ready to buy myself a digital camera, I have had the same Pentax 35mm camera for 10 years. I am wanting the convenience of being able to erase bad pictures, so I am really excited. I think that I am going to buy the Canon A95. DH is getting frustrated, he says, "buy it already" but I am not a spure of the moment person when it costs alot.:p

A polarizing filter seem expensive, but on a sunny day it makes the sky amazingly blue. It comes in two flavors, linear and circular, unless you have a manual focus camera make sure you get a circular one. Autofocus is fooled by the linear ones.

I've used some warming and enhancing filters for portraits... results are good. I'm reluctant to do too much with filters on digital... you can render so many effects with Photoshop that they seem redundant.

Thanks for the advice. I love experimenting with photography.
