we have been hearing and reading about the new equipment that they have at the airports for scanning will this ruin camera film and vidio tapes we do not want to loose our memories of our trip ty

Camera film will be damaged if you place them in your luggage. The new screening device used for checked luggage is more powerful than the one used when you are screened for boarding.

My suggestion is to take your film in a clear plastic bag without the cannisters that the film is packed and ask for a hand check. The high speed film over 800 should never be screened. Keep in mind that airport secruity will advise you that film under 800 will not be damaged; however, if it is screened mulitiple times it will be damaged.

We returned from the Disney Wonder Cruise and each time I asked for a hand check. I was using 400 speed film. If the this film was screened at the airport, then cruise check-in and when you return from the Nassau that would have been three times.They did not screen it when we returned to the ship from Castway Cay. Secruity will tell you that film under 800 can be put through the x-ray machine prior to boarding. However, depending upon where your final destination it could be screened mulitiple times. For example, getting on the airplane is one screening, getting abroad t he Disney Cruise ship is a second time, and returning from Nassau would have been three time. In this case it would not matter the speed of your film it would have an impact.

If you're very worried, there are places to buy film in the Orlando Airport, and even shipboard, if you're looking to minimize risk, just be aware it'll probably be more than you could get it at a discount place at home, but the lighter risk might be worth it.
