I have a LowePro Orion Trekker II backpack. I won it in a photo contest and that is the only reason I use it - it was free and hold all my gear. I hate it ! I find it uncomfortable to wear and awkward to access. I'm currently looking at a Tamrac Velocity 5 to replace it, but thinking I may try to track down one of the Tamrac slingpacks.

I found mine at Ritz Camera, in our local mall. It was $10 more than Amazon, but at least I got to try my camera in it first and make sure it was a good fit.

We are going to Disney next month, and I am getting a new camera (hopfully today) Rebel XSi. What is a good camera bag for the parks, as small as possible to protect the camera, but enough to carry what I need. I have 3 kids, 4 year old twins and an almost 2 year old, so I need something pretty handy. Thank you all so much for all of your help.

I would suggest looking at either a sling style bag or a messenger style bag.

Good brands are lowepro, tamerac (sp), crumplier.

I was using a sling style and recently decided that it wasn't working that well for me, so I just got a crumplier $7m home bag. So far I am liking it a lot better as it is easier for me to take the camera in and out and to change lenses than the slingshot.

I second the crumpler vote. I have a 6 million dollar home bag and a 4 million dollar home bag. 6 million has 3 compartments that would fit the body and several lenses but it's a bit bulky for me to take out and carry everywhere, so I use my 4 million dollar home to carry around. It has two pockets and I can fit my rebel xTi with my long lens on in one and have my macro lens in the other. Fits better the other way around but it does work with my 70-300 mm on.

Another vote for Crumpler. I have taken my $5mil home on several WDW trips and it is a perfect day bag.

First post on DIS - yay!

I used a Crumpler 5MDH when I went to Disneyland about 3 weeks ago. What was nice about it was that it was easy to get my camera in and out of it.

The only bad thing was that it really isn't large enough to hold anything else (i.e. water bottle or light jacket), and it isn't waterproof. So if you go on Splash Mountain, be very aware that your camera may get wet on that ride. One of my friend's didn't go on the ride, so she held the camera and bag for me.

I'm on the hunt for a different back for our WDW trip next summer. I love my 5MDH, but I don't think it works for me. I have a 5MDH also, and I think that would be too bulky.

Thanks!

I've see this number: 407-560-6068 on other forums. You can leave a message and they'll call you back.

Thank you too - I have been e-mailing their so called customer service for a week now because I never a promotion code e-mail and they WILL not give me an answer. I have asked them several times for a phone number or some human contact because I can not get my photo CD I pre-paid for.

Good luck with your issue....

I hope you guys can help! I'm getting the Canon Rebel XSI and want to bring it on my next disney vacation. I love the idea of a sling bag but there are so many to choose from! I don't plan on bringing too many lenses, as a matter of fact i'm not sure i'll even have any extras just yet anyway haha. Just looking for Splash Mountain-Protection, easy to grab in and out (i plan on walking around with the camera out most of the time) and comfort. Any suggestions??

Nicole....

I absolutely would suggest taking the camera and going to a camera store and trying out different bags. :thumbsup2

I wanted a sling bag too and found, as some other women have, it wasn't as comfortable for me as it seems to be on the guys.

I have a lowepro micro backpack that holds my D 80, 18-135, 50 f1.8, 70-300VR + cards, charger. It is my "main" gear bag. I take a lowepro toploader zoom for the day/night which can hold any lenses and I can max the 70-300 + 50. My only regret is that it isn't an AW.

Happy shopping !!;)

Which micro trekker do you have...the 100 or 200? I had purchased a small camera bag with a handle (kind of looks like a doctor's bag) and just realized recently that all of my stuff doesn't fit in. I think I'd to get something bigger.

Right now, I have the D60, the 18-200 VR, the nifty fifty, the 18-55 kit lens, a gorillapod, a bunch of memory cards, extra battery, etc. In the near future I will be getting the Sigma 30 and am hoping to get a bag that will fit all of these (although I could do without the 18-55 since I don't use it anyway).

Overstock.com has the Micro Trekker 200 for $65 and with Christmas coming up, I think it may be the perfect gift to put on my list!

Thanks!
Ann

I have the 200 !!!
Just saw Overstock's price....sweet !! ;)
You might want to check out the new Mini Trekker AW.
It has a built in AW (all weather) cover and also straps/pocket to carry a tripod and here are the dimension. Just a tiny bit bigger than the one I have.
The price is double though....figures!!

micro trekker 200 (mine) w10.4"xd4.9"xh12.6"
mini trekker AW w11"xd4.9"x14.6

Ann.....

:scared1: Yeah, double the price for a few extra inches and AW material is not worth it for me. Whatever backpack I get, oddly enough...I probably won't wear that much (at least not until our trip to Alaska).

For now, I want a bigger bag than I have now to keep everything organized at home, fit most of my gear in it for the time being and have something I can easily toss in the car and go. I have a smaller bag that I'll use when I'm out somewhere (like WDW) that'll just hold some extra cards, a re-charged battery and a second lens. For our trip to Alaska, I'll need a backpack that will fit (my guess) either the 70-300 or 80-400, the Sigma 30 and maybe the nifty fifty, as well as the camera body and a small travel tripod, plus a water and sandwich and some granola bars...and it looks like the trekker 200 would be able to accomodate that, even if it's a little snug.

Thanks!!

Look at this bag from Kata.

http://www.amazon.com/Kata-KT-D-3N1...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1226255120&sr=8-2

It can be worn as a sling bag or backpack. I have the larger size and recently used it on a trip to WDW and was very happy with it. I wore it as a backpack, but could also sling it around to access the camera gear. You can reconfigure the straps several different ways. It comes in three sizes. I needed the larger one for a longer lens.

This is the one I have, except mine is the smallest size (I don't have too much gear yet.) We're leaving Wednesday for Disneyworld so I'll see how it'll work out there! Tomorrow I need to load everything in it and see what else will fit. I like the option of wearing it as a backpack too.

I have an XSi and recently purchased the "Five Million Dollar Home" from Crumpler. I absolutely love this bag! It doesn't even look like a camera bag which is pretty sweet. Right now I only have the 18-55mm kit lens but I'm also carrying my MiniDV camcorder in the same case. This thing is WICKED! I've also got my memory cards, battery charger, user manual (newbie here), and SLR gorillapod on-board.

I checked out the LowePro (sp?) bags when I was at the store and this one had all of the pockets where I needed them. It comes in some pretty nifty colours. I think it's a Canadian company but it may be available south of the medicine line (border ;)).

Here's a link from my local store. You can check out www.crumpler.ca for more in depth info.

EDIT: So I just checked to see if there is a US website and it is www.crumplerbags.com. It's a flash site but you can click on a little link to bring up the "Crumpler Lite" (Non-flash) site. Maybe they're not solely Canadian afterall....

I've got that bag too (and the $7mill)! I have quite a collection. Crumpler is an Australian company, but they are available in the US.

This is a great bag for a compact kit. However, it will not accomodate a longer lens or extra stuff - sunscreen, purse, etc.
