Has anyone here had any hands on with these two camera bags?

I dont really care to carry a laptop around with my camera that is one of the things I dont like about many of this type of cases, but the options or more storage in a easier to manage shape size makes me keep looking.

I heard of those bags. But I never use it.

I use the Canon backpack. This bag is worth every penny of $35. Of course, you notice I don't say it is worth every penny of $50 or $100. There is only one reason for this. The zipper.

The bag itself is real nice and comfortable. It holds a ton of stuff and organizes well. I won't be getting rid of it anytime soon.

Like I said, the zipper is the problem with this bag. The problem is that the zipper is SUPER smooth to operate. I thought this was great when I checked it out at Best Buy, so I bought it from Amazon (for about $40 less). When I got the bag, and packed it up with my gear I realized that if the two zipper ends are closed at the top of the bag, they are so smooth that the bag WILL open on its own and your stuff will come pouring out onto the floor. If the ends are zippered down to one side, this is not a problem at all. It is best opened with the bag on a table or on the floor.

Ok, so this is a major drawback to this bag, but as I said, I have worked around it and really do like the bag overall. For the price, it is really great. Had I lost my 70-200mm f2.8L lens, I wouldn't be giving it this much praise, I'm sure.

Hope this helps.

i have the canon bag, have had it going on 3 yrs and it is fine but since i hate backpacks i mainly use it to keep all my stuff together at home and take a tamrac messanger bag( think it was about $60, system 3) with me...i hate backpacks cause you can't hold them easily to open them.. the messanger bag i have i can get into while husband is shlepping it (on his shoulder or he sometimes swings it around to his back) and never miss a step:lmao: . also it stands up when i put it down so i can get into it that way as well. they both hold about the same amount of stuff
i haven't had the zipper problem but usually mine isn't that full since it's all in my other bag( right now i have some plastic bags, a filter wallet, my kit lens and a pen in the canon:):))

I think Im going to try the canon case and have some straps put inside to go across to keep items from just falling out.

I read about the zipper issue and one fellow had a small carabiner to keep them from coming apart looked like a good tip, another was to just use one the two to avoid slip ups.

Thanks for all the input!

I don't have that one, I have the lowepro300flipside, My fear of back packs is anyone can reach in and help themselves to your belongings. that is why I have the flipside, it zippers against you. Good luck with the bag that you do get.

I have to cannon backpack and it works fine. I haven't had the zipper to open but it does unzip easily. I have been looking at over the shoulder bags that open from the top but have not bought one yet. I do have a small over the shoulder bag that holds just the camera and the lens that is on it but nothing extra. Sometimes I don't want to carry all that extra weight with me.

I will have to check that one out, thanks!

I can understand that, I would like something I can open up and look at what is there and plan what I want to take out with me. Now I have two medium/large cases with pockets and layers galore and would like to go with something flatter I think less looking everywhere LOL

When I leave the truck I usually just have the camera and maybe one extra lens and a flash in a vest or small bag.
I leave the camera out so I can take pictures nothing worse than missing a shot cause your fumbling to get it out.

I am totally not a backpack person, and put off buying a dSLR for so long in part because I fretted about carrying it.

I like messenger style bags, so I ordered a couple of different bags to try (via REI*) and I realy liked the Lowepro Slingshot bag the best. It's like a combination messenger/sling bag but sits on your back and swings around very easily when you need to get something out so you don't have to take it off, which, to me, is a really great feature. It's also got a built in bag/"hood" you can pull up and over the whole thing that helps protect gear in wet weather (tho it's not completely waterproof). To be honest, as of right now with my Oly E-510 and two lenses (soon to be 3 :) ), it feels almost empty so that sometimes I check it to make sure the gear is actually in there. :thumbsup2

The Slingshot comes in 3 styles, I believe. The 100 (smallest - what I bought), 200 and 300 (largest). See all three here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=...ex=photo&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325

*REI was very good and actually helped me with this whole process. I ordered them from the store using my Preferred Member number which gave me a 20% discount, had them shipped to my house which gave me time to fully check them out, and I then just returned the one I didn't want.

We got 3 Canon Powershot A470 for our children for Christmas (2 girls and one boy). I am looking for some neat or different (but yet functional) camera bags for them to hold the camera, extra batteries and SD cards. I want them to zip and to be able to be carried around their neck (so not too big). Does anyone know where online I can look? I have looked at ebags and did not really find anything.

Thanks!

I have another bag question. I am looking for a bag that will carry my Canon XTi with a small lens, my 75-300 lens, my external flash and some other misc. items like sunblock, cards batteries, etc. I don't want my back or shoulder to break either. Too much to ask maybe? LOL I was looking at the Crumpler 6 million or the Lowepro 100 sling. I have seen a few Tamaracs that look interesting too. I just want something easy to get into when needed too. Has anyone had luck with any of these? Or do you have another suggestion.

I have the LowePro 100 and Love it. The sling design is wonderful for gaining access without having to completrly remove it the way you do a traditional backpack. It even makes a pretty good place to steady your arms for shooting when you have it slung around in front. I carry a D40X with 3 lenses and an SB600 flash with room to spare for some additional small items.

I just took the Lowepro Slingshot 100 to Disneyland and really liked it. I didn't have a flash but carried 2 extra lenses and pretty much all you described without problem. I agree that it is very easy to access as you don't have to take it off and if I felt my back or shoulders getting tired at all I just slung it around front for a bit and it was a great arm rest! I do not take well to back packs and was a bit worried how this would work but it was great! :thumbsup2

I have a lowepro camera bag, but for DL or Wild Animal Park trips I use a regular and much lighter Kelty (pretty nice) backpack, maybe a lowepro lens case for my (typical) lenses, and a Domke protective wrap for my camera body. I love the wraps, they are puffy, light, but not too puffy so they do not eat up a lot of space. I use the rest of the space for things like you all have stated. sun screen, snacks, money, phone, clothing... and whatever DW tells me to mule-around! I agree, extra or unnecessary weight can be wear you out. I am lucky right now. DD uses a stroller so I can put a small Giotto tripod in there and lock it down with a small bike lock to the stroller when we are on rides or just away.

I just got my first DSLR this weekend. The Canon Rebel XTI….now I’m looking for a bag. Could someone give me some recommendations on a SMALL camera bag that will fit my camera, 18-55 and 55-250 lens? I like the messenger type bag that fits around my neck. I do not want a shoulder or backpack style. I like the Crumpler bags but not sure if the 2 million or 3 million would fit all that.

I'm thinking the smallest crumpler that would fit it is the 4 million dollar.

Just my $0.19 ($.02 adjusted for inflation).

My daughter has the 4milliion dollar home for a Nikon D40 and the kit lens with one additional lens and it is tight. It all fits but she wishes she would have gotten the 5. She really does like the bag though.

I have the Canon Xsi with a 28-135 on the camera, the 18-55 kit lens and am getting the 55-250 soon. I just bought the Tamrac #5502 Explorer 2 bag this past week. It will hold all of the above but it is a tight fit. I looked at the next size bag up, the Tamrac 5603 System 3, but it just seemed to be too large for carrying around all day.

My opinion is to go to a large camera store and just look at them all and try to fit stuff into them to make sure it works for you. I went to Roberts Imaging in Indianapolis to get mine and they were very helpful as I imagine most good stores would be.

I would suggest looking at Crumpler's MDH (million dollar home) bags. Like the previous poster said, I would get the 5 and not the 4 for space purposes.

... and am getting the 55-250 soon.

I actually just ordered this lens on Sunday and it should be in today. I am excited to see how it will work out. I am going to use it to complement my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and my Canon 50mm f/1.8.

Mind sharing where you ordered from? I had planned to get it in Indianapolis when I go up there next week but when I called today they said out of stock until late this month.
