I recieved a Canon DC210 for Christmas. I really liked it until I went to put the footage on my computer and do some basic editing with Windows Movie Maker. The file extension is .VRO which Windows Movie Maker doesn't accept so I had to convert it....long story short I can't get the audio and video to synch up and it has just been a real hassle all around. I can't take the camcorder back, b/c it is way past the deadline at Best Buy. I am thinking about just selling the thing on ebay or craigslist and starting over. I just wanted an inexpensive, point and shoot camcorder that I can then use Windows Movie Maker to do some basic editing. I keep looking and I am just feeling overwhelmed. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I wasn't sure if the Photography board covered video cameras also...but TIA.

I am much more interested on the still photography side of things but the family insisted on bringing a camcorder for our trip to WDW in two weeks. I didn't really want to spend a lot on a camcorder, and I didn't want to lug around the old, now relatively giant, Digital 8mm thing I bought 6-8 years ago. Besides, it is making really strange grinding noises.

After some research, I settled upon just about the cheapest DV model out there: a JVC GR-DA30. I seen it everywhere for $200. I like it because it is very compact. It takes up about the same amount of space as my 150mm zoom. I was attracted to it because it doesn't have the flip out screen; rather, the screen is on the back. (I would post a link but I don't have a high enough post count).

After a couple of outings shooting some kids soccer videos, I am very pleased with the results, and it will do just fine on the trip. I can't comment on Movie Make because I use Adobe Premier Elements which I am extremely pleased with.

Thanks, I'll look into that one...it's so hard knowing what to buy. I just don't want to end up with another one I can't use.
