Calling home from Bahamas

When we went on our first 4 night cruise, I assumed I could use my cell phone. NOT! I found this out after getting to the Bahamas. So this time I thought I had things covered by buying a prepaid AT&T phone card. I found out the day that we left that the phone card does not work in the Bahamas. Besides paying the $6.95/min on the ship phone, how do you call home?

We too had a problem in Nassau. We bought a phone card before leaving home. We called the CS# on the card and asked about calling from Nassau. They gave us a special number to call into to get through from there. But, it didnt work! I was crushed because I knew I wouldnt be talking to my kids the following day at CC either, and I felt horrible for not having them hear my voice for 2 full days. But not crushed enough to spend 70.00 on a 10 minute conversation, LOL! Instead we got back on the ship and emailed them.

hi - did you check you service out - we were able to call on our cell phone from the ship in nassau - we did have a roaming charge because we had verison & it was only northeast - but the cost wasn't that expensive & it did work - we called from the port - from nassau - and from the airport (a couple of times because it was last year when the fires were burning & had delays w/our flight) and my entire monthly bill was no larger that $40 -

We just got back from the 3 night Wonder and needed to call my father. We had no desire to go to Nassau but got off the ship to try to call home only. My cell phone wouldn't work in Nassau and neither did my AT&T card so I whipped out a dollar in change and got 1 minute to talk to my Dad to find out all was well. If I could've scraped more change in my purse, I could've talked longer, but 1 minute was good enough to give each other the basics.
