Calling all VB veterans!!!!

HI, going to VB in August and need some recommendations for places to eat off of Disney property. I received some information in the mail today from the Indian River Chamber of Commerce, but there are soooo many places listed that I thought it would be a good idea to ask my fellow DVCrs first.

Best Italian, best mexican, best chinese and best place for sushi would be a few of my choices. But any recommendation you can suggest is more than appreciated.

About 4 miles down A1A towards Vero center on the right is the Black Pearl. It cost us about $85 for two but it was a great restaurant for both the selection of food and the the way it is presented. It is a restaurant for adults. You can save a few bucks by going between 4 pm and 6pm. Double check the hours. There are two of these restaurants. The Ocean Grill is one of the best restaurants in Vero. It sits right on the ocean and is built from driftwood. It has an old, rustic feel, a great view, but the food is by far the best. I've had mostly positive service experiences and one forgettable one.

The best thing to do, however, is ask the front desk/info desk at the resort. Every time I go they recommend someplace different and I always enjoy myself.

We loved a place called 2002. The front desk can tell you where it is. We have only been to VB one time and 2002 was recomended to us by a friend. It isn't fancy but the food is great. It has the best walnut crusted chicken breast. All the food our group got was just wonderful.

Best Mexican, Hirmana's gets my vote, it's very near to DVC. Most of the restaurants are a 15 minute drive in Vero itself. Hirmana's is on the US1 just north of the bridge that takes you to and from the resort.

madcoco - we ate at The Patio on our last visit and really enjoyed it. Their prices are very reasonable. Their food is more 'down home' rather than gourmet, but really very good. I think I had a spicy shrimp appetizer and lemon pepper fish for the entree. All of their dinner entrees come with salad, soup of the day, vegetable or potato and a "patio parfait". DH had onion soup and a philly cheesesteak and fries. Everything was very good except for the spinach that came with my fish - tasted like it was right out of a can! I think our bill came out to around $32-35 before tip.
