Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

yes!! Almost embarrassed to say that is why I did it - that and the possibility of cold temps:)

Speaking of bathrooms, does anyone have a suggestion for ideal inside the park bathrooms for a pit stop? I scoped a couple in November and thinking Rapunzels may be "ahem" the way to go.

:rotfl:

I did the race retreat for the bathrooms and "climate control" also! Not that I've ever had issues with the simply astounding quantity of port-o-lets that they have at Disney races. I even took a picture because no one would believe how many they have! I'm actually pretty excited for the race retreat - I got it for both days, figuring it might be a nice place after the 10k for me to recoup before the kids races.

So um.... WHERE ARE THE WAIVERS/FINAL RACE INSTRUCTIONS?!?!?! :)

Clearly, I'm running out of patience. At least I'm running something right? :lmao:

I completely overestimated my desire to train for distance races for 9 consecutive months. :faint: I started W&D 2013 training last June. Last night I got off the treadmill and said, thank god I only have 12 more training runs left and no more races longer than 5 miles scheduled for 2014! I seriously need to go shopping in the iTunes store or this weather has to improve or I'm going to go crazy by the time Princess comes around. The only thing that keeps me going is knowing that if I don't, completing those 19.3 miles will be miserable. I don't like to be miserable, contrary to what people might think when I tell them I go for runs that are 2.5 hours long. :rotfl2: I've started rewarding myself with ice cream and cookies. I need a better plan! ::yes::

I'm reading about some good runs…PrincessV, Maura... off the top of my head…sure I missed some one.
You girls have been getting busy with the post today. Sorry to hear about all the injuries etc…but as others have said, don't continue to aggravate injuries with continued running/walking. Rest, heal and hopefully get a few runs in in a week or 10 days.

What about those waivers????? Hopefully this week.

glad to hear about the meet at 5pm at Earl of Sandwich in DD Saturday. Also the "W" tent in the meeting area is another WISH meet place before and after the race…for those of us that won't spring for the retreat.

I need to go back and read a few posts, but for now... we sure do love talking shoes, right?! :rotfl2: As promised, my latest shoe review is up: Brooks Ravenna 4

I may have a running shoe problem... :rotfl:

Good to know! I knew about the DTD one on Saturday, but didn't know about "W" tent on race day. I'm assuming it will be labeled so us newbies will know where it is? Also, is there a sticker or label or shirt or something that lets everyone know you are a WISH'er?

There are many tents with letters..theory is meet at tent with letter that your last name starts with…but you can just decide to meet at any tent you decide…"W" WISH.

Some have WISH apparel…lime green..or just be bold and introduce yourself.

I have to say reading so many other runners reports of being relegated to the treadmill have made me feel so much better about my training. Reading about those who've trained successfully on treadmills for this and past races really reassured me that I am not setting myself up to fail. So thank you to all that sheared their experiences.

More snow this past weekend, so a long indoor run was my plan. But Wednesday to Sunday my knee really hurt every time I went down even a few stairs. So, I decided to just get a short run in yesterday to see how it felt (fine) and then concentrate the next few days on short tempo runs, rolling and stretching with the goal of a long run next weekend. I am hoping to get a 4 miler in Friday and a 12 miler Saturday. Outside would be fabulous, but if it has to be indoors I will deal with it.

Lets hope the waivers are up soon. I keep checking hourly...suspense is killing me.

WOOHOO!!! Great job!
I plan on doing my dress rehearsal next Wed/Thurs/Fri.
Thanks! And best of luck on your mini-Triple Crown - go get 'em!

Rapunzels' is a good choice. Other MK options: by Tomorrowland Terrace (off to the right as we run through TL), outside Mickey's Star Traders (on our left as we turn through TL), in the tunnel between Frontierland and Adventureland (on our left).

I totally relate. :headache: I love running, but I'm so over the training! I've got GSC and a half in late March, then I'm planning to focus on short, speedy distances through summer. Hopefully I'll be ready to tackle long distance again by the time W&D training starts up.

:worship: My hat is off to all of you dealing with this awful winter. You're all rockstars, in my opinion!

I highly recommend the restroom in the tunnel in terms of low/no lines, if you can wait until the end of MK. I've seen lines out the door of the Tomorrowland one near Star Traders, but fewer people make it as far as Frontierland before stopping.

Can you tell me where I can find the Facebook group? I typed in Wish, am I missing something? Thank you.

Yep, weather still getting me down too. Snowiest/coldest combination winter I can remember for a long time....

On the bright side, the indoor track at our local rec center is a great surface :thumbsup2 I'm not sure what it is - looks like tumbling mats, but isn't that squishy. It's fantastic though as it feels almost completely no impact! My knees are happy :goodvibes

Can't believe it's only just over 3 weeks to go! Happy training everyone!!

I am mostly a lurker on this thread but I will be one of those folks sporting the WISH lime green for a good part of the week-end so if you see me at the Expo, scream teaming the 10k, the meet and especially on the racecourse during the Half be sure and say hello! Looking forward to meeting you all! princess:

I'll keep an eye out, for sure! I was shouting out to the WISHers when I cheered the marathon this year, but had no WISH stuff on me... I fear they all thought I was just some random doof, lol!

:lmao: Could have been delayed reaction depending on where you were when you were yelling.

Don't think I can make the meetup but will be at race retreat before and after - who's in for that ?

Yay! Let's do it! :thumbsup2

Not sure I can help at all with the specifics, but I just wanted to add my support and some pixiedust:!

I'll be sending you lots of :goodvibes!!

Thank you!! The support on this board just never ceases to amaze me. :goodvibes

I only have experience with one issue, the GI stuff. Do you mind me asking what kind I issues? (Message me, if you'd like. :) )

Sending you a PM in just a minute. You sound just like me - I'd love to pick your brain! :)

I will be! I can't make the meet and greet since that will be my only day that I can roam Disney. :)

Yay!! :)

I'll be at the race retreat! It seemed worth it because I know I'll be a nervous wreck and will need the bathrooms-- numerous times lol.

Yay again!! :)

Okay, here's the deal: while only going up to 8.5 before a half maybe isn't ideal, it's absolutely doable. I've gone into almost every race under-trained thanks to injuries and can attest that it's possible! The key here is realistic expectations: plan to finish, not to PR; focus on the fun; take a lesson form Jeff Galloway, who recommends (and I can vouch for it) walking the difference between your longest training distance and the race distance. So if you only get to 8.5, plan to walk 4+ of the race. You can split that up however you want - walk a few miles in the beginning, spread it out with a 1/4 of every mile, save it for the end, whatever, but it's an approach that will get you across the finish. :thumbsup2

See a doc. Really, 4 weeks out is still time for recovery, but only if you don't delay in finding out what's going on. Make a diagnosis a priority!

There's no getting around missing your buddy on the run... but I think you'll find that the entire race is about the very things you mentioned and that gigantic crowd of fellow Princesses will lift you up and encourage you to do your best! And then you can party with your friend, who will be rested and ready to celebrate with you. :cheer2:

This is really really great advice - thank you. I'm going to set up an appointment with a podiatrist asap. We've got a huge ortho practice here - there are a few podiatrists on staff there, and with them working pretty closely together (along with physio, too), I should have a pretty good chance of getting what I need. Love the Galloway guidance on building walking in to fill the training gaps - definitely doing this. :thumbsup2

I am ridiculously happy to report that I did a back-to-back mini GSC this weekend... with no pain!!! :yay::yay::yay: 4 miles Saturday: mostly walked, with some 30-sec runs tossed in here and there for an avg pace of 14:25/mile. 10 miles Sunday with a good amount of walking, too, until the halfway point - with no pain then, I began putting in more running each mile and, including a bunch of stops to refill my water bottle, re-tie shoes, use a restroom, watch a hawk, etc., finished with an avg of 14:18/mile. My legs didn't feel at all tired on the 10-miler, so I'm no longer worried about the back-to-back-to-back. :thumbsup2

I'm very happy with that! I know now I can either walk most of all 3 races if my knee needs it, or walk most of the first two and run a lot more of the half if I feel up to it. That's a big relief.

way to go! nothing better than going into it knowing you'll be just fine :cool1:
