Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

On a happier note, I decided to try sport beans for the first time. I don't know if they helped or not, but I ran/walked 6.33 miles at just under 14:00 mm. I am still in shock. I can't believe that I did it. With 3 weeks left to train, I am pumped. I am going to rock that 10k!!!!

With that in mind, what kind of training do you guys do the week of the race?

Helloooooooo Princesses!! :)

A big thank you to those who provided words of support with my weather woes last week. I would include those comments here but am on my iPad and so don't have multi-quote capability at the moment. :) I opted for the TM on Sunday but had a very frustrating run - felt very run down and had a wicked headache. I really wanted to run the 10 I'd planned for but had to stop at 7, and honestly broke down into tears after because I was so angry that I couldn't go farther. I've hit 8.5 (a few weeks ago), but am finding myself struggling to go farther. Recurring headaches and really not so fun GI issues have me worried about both training and the actual race. I've set up a doctor appointment for next Monday to see if I can do anything about either - don't want anything holding me back from fully participating.

On another note - what to wear. I'm totally with you guys in doing a dress rehearsal before the big day. Soooooo... I JUST got my Sparkle skirt order today! But although I LOVE the Sparkle Light skirt (in yellow as I'll be running as Belle), I found the MuddBuster capris really uncomfortable. So disappointed because I love the deep mesh pockets on each leg, but I found the seams really itchy. Does anyone know of any other running capris that come with pockets? I've just been running in my cheap Target Champion or Old Navy capris, which are fine, but I really do want those pockets for my gels, Nuun tablets and such.

Any suggestions?

Lululemon makes capris with deep pockets and each side, as well as a zippered pocket in the back. I tend to go with these for long runs so I can ditch my flip belt and any of the readjusting issues that goes with it. They are pricey (I think around 80), but they are worth it!

This is where I bought mine: http://sparkleskirts.com/ Very comfortable long shorts with multiple pockets--don't know if that's the same as yours. Mine is light green with swirly things--very Tink looking!

I absolutely LOVE Sparkle Skirts! I am not a skirt person but for running, I am. They are so comfortable and the pockets are fabulous and convenient. I've only purchased their skirts but I'm sure their shorts and capris are equally as fabulous.

I just bought a skirt from Team Sparkle as opposed to Sparkle skirts - I think it's a bit short. The sparkle skirts look longer. Anyone else have one? I am having costume anxiety - have a Belle apron I bought to wear with a shirt and tights and a Minnie option that includes the skirt but I am having some confidence issues about the skirt as I am used to more "coverage".

The Team Sparkle/Sparkle Athletic skirts are meant to be worn on your hips. My rear is always fully covered.

I do not have either team sparkle or sparkle skirts but I just wanted to say that if it feels comfy during your run, then wear it! Don't worry about "coverage." No one else hoofing it 13.1 miles (or even 6.2 miles) with you is going to be thinking, "she SO should not be wearing that." They are going to be thinking, "OMG, where is the finish line? How fast is that person ahead of me going am I going to need to pass her? Oh look it's Cinderella! Is that water or Gatorade? How much longer til my walk break?!"

So don't stress over what you are wearing. Just be comfortable. The magical Disney pixie dust somehow makes it all look awesome on raceday anyway. pixiedust:

I've tried both, so I can give you my comparison...

Yes, Sparkle Athletic (formerly Team Sparkle) skirts are shorter and less full. They're also meant to sit low on the hips, not at the waist.

Sparkle Skirts are several inches longer and quite a bit fuller; definitely more coverage. They seem to want to sit at the waist.

My preference is Sparkle Athletic because full is a bad, bad look on me and I'm short, so added length isn't flattering, either, lol! I also prefer things to sit very low on my hips, which made Sparkle Skirts very uncomfortable for me.

:rotfl: Also: "I want pancakes!"

thanks! This made me smile - yay for pixie dust!

How could I forget!?!?!?!?

Must be because until now, my runDis race experiences have been more like, "I've got to keep moving so I can get to Epcot and PARTY!" :lmao: (which after 2 attempts, has still yet to happen....)

Usually mine is "I want bacon!! Ohhh bacon....I'm so hungry...I can't wait for breakfast....speaking of hungry, do I have any more sports beans? I could go for a sandwich....do I have room to carry a sandwich? "

But you get the point, I am mostly thinking about food! Hahah

Another SparkleSkirts lover and owner here! I have never felt uncomfortable in mine, especially as a pooh-sized runner/walker. But by all means and above all, be comfortable in whatever you wear. Take a trial run in your costume and see how you feel after that.

Right?! I did actually make it to a park after last week's half, though. Did a couple rides at DHS and had dinner at Via Napoli... 3 sips into my prosecco I was drunk. :rotfl2:

:lmao: For real - I have never wanted a cheeseburger more in my life than I did around mile 8 of the TOT 10-Miler! I was so excited to finish and have one... and then I was so nauseous and dizzy afterward there was no way I could ingest one. :crazy2:

I agree with this. I don't like Sparkle Skirts because I can't stand things up around my belly button. I like things down on my hips. I asked if they could make one that could sit lower and they said no. I love the Rapunzel skirt so much though, that I bought it and am going to figure out a way to alter it to sit low!

I bought a Sparkle Light for my Half costume because they had the color and fullness I needed for what I have in mind. I bought the size my measurement lined up with but it was a tad too big. Rather than return it, I am gonna wear it at my hips instead. Not as it was designed to be, but with the Light (it's just a skirt) I think it's gonna work. And if it doesn't on a trial run, I'll hand tack it to my capris so it doesn't move.
