so, i started running in June. I got up the 5k point and felt it too hard to go much futher. So, I started intervals. I currently run 3.5 min and walk 1 min.
Are you hitting 15:00/mile at that 3.5run/1walk ratio? I'd suggest trying a shorter run interval and see how it feels and what it does for your pace. The advantage of a shorter run interval for some folks is a much faster running speed, which can improve pace with less overall exertion. It doesn't work that way for everyone, but it's worth a try!

However, the Jeff Galloway has you walking that distance. Should i just run/walk it instead? Does that make sense?
My suggestion is to try it a few times before you get to the "official" start of training: try a mile the day after a long run and see how it feels. I think you'll quickly see what feels better on tired legs, intervals or straight walking.

Okay, I have a bit of a dilemma. Our plans have changed a bit (long story) and I'm looking at heading down on Friday, the 21st. Since I'm running in the 10K on Saturday, I definitely need to get my race packet on Friday, correct? There's no way to get that on Saturday morning at the race start??

So, our flight down looks like it'll arrive at 4:40pm, which (if everything is right on schedule) gives me 2 hours to get to the expo before it closes. I'm thinking of taking a taxi from the airport to the expo (depending on cost). Anyone have any opinions on this? Am I just cutting things too close? I'm assuming that if I don't get my bib, I can't run - right?? Ugh...

That's cutting it crazy close. For sure on the taxi! Then pray your flight doesn't delay!!!! If there's anyway you can move up your flight I'd seriously consider it. That's just my thought.

Don't panic....but you may want a backup plan of having someone else pick it up for you.

If you're in a bind, I'll volunteer to do it for you.

That is so sweet of you to help her out so she doesn't have to stress out! Pixie dust for you for being so awesome!

Assuming I still have a knee and am still running, I can also pick up a bib or two. The deal is that pre planning is REQUIRED. I would suggest not leaving things to chance and early in February when the forms and waivers are posted, work with someone to pick up your ID.

You will need to sign the form, sign your waiver, scan both along with a copy of your license and send them to the person picking up your stuff. Sounds real complicated but it keeps me from claiming someone elses stuff without their knowledge.

Yeah, that was my thought too. I think I just needed to hear it from someone else! The issue is that my oldest now wants to come with me, but would really like to get a half day of school in that day. I think we either need to fly down seperately (he's 16, so would be okay with that) or he just needs to suck it up and miss another day. I'll just need to think it out some more....

Thank you so much for the offer - that's so kind of you!! I'm going to think about this some more and try to work out getting down there earlier in the day on Friday. Since this is my first runDisney event, I'd really like to see some of the Expo too :)

We had this same debate (except my son will be 6 so no flying in by himself). Right now, we decided to take him out the full day and fly down early in the morning. However, it's still February and if there is bad weather, I'm going to be scrambling to fly down a day earlier by myself (and leave DS with DH).

Ran a 10k this morning to use for Princess. Word of advice--don't pick a rolly/hilly course on a 42 degree day with wind gusts up to 40 mph to try for a time! I finished in a respectable time and now will try and decide if it's worth one more shot in a couple of weeks to improve. While running I was thinking "no way", but now, of course,at home eating leftover pizza I'm thinking "maybe". 10k is my least favorite distance--I think I'd rather run a marathon!

Oh, gosh, I never even thought of it being February - probably much more likely to have a flight delay then....:worried: Maybe I should shoot for heading down on Thursday, just in case. (And getting an extra day in Disney has nothing to do with it :rolleyes1)

Hey all! Just found this thread! Princess will be my first half and I'm very excited! I'm in Atlanta and currently training with a Galloway group (even got to meet Jeff once!).

My friend is running the 10k. Do I need to register WTH the Chear Squad to cheer for her? I know she need it for PH

I'm flying from Texas and that's my excuse- er- reason for arriving on Thursday. Ha!

Did my second 10k today, and in my sparkle skirt for a test run ( double use of the skirt.. Today I went as Snow White, but I'm doing belle for PHM). Anyway, it was great! Hardly noticed the skirt at all, and ran the whole way with no walk breaks!! (First time that's ever happened!) I actually had a faster time my previous 10k, but it wasn't quite 6.2 miles ..
1:02:35 6.14 miles vs today 1:04:03 6.26 miles
Both were time chipped and certified .. Guess I should just submit the first one? Not that a minute and a half will make a huge difference, really I just didn't want to be in the last corral!

Will they accept it if it's not exactly 6.2 though? This is my first runDisney event, so I'm not sure.

Doesn't matter what a person's Garmin or self-measurement is. As long as the race was USATF certified, that's what counts.

And yes, xCourxCorexsubmit the first one. You never know what the corral breaks will be and if one happens to be 2:20, then the first time will likely bump you up a corral.

Ya know Patty we could actually get snow in Texas at that time...we clear store shelves when a thunderstorm happens...just imagine what a snow event would be like !:rotfl2:

Seriously though...DH well remembers the NE snow storm in 2012 that made him late getting home so always a good idea if one can swing it to get to Disney early....like we ever need an excuse...er...reason for getting there early !;)

As a certified course it doesn't matter what it measured on your personal GPS device. Disney accepts it as a 10k and looks at your official time, so go with the faster official time.

Great job by the way. Just as a point of reference , my 1:14 10k has me in corral F for the wine and dine, so there shouldn't be anyway that your time will have you in the last corral.
