Finally have a time to submit for a better corral! Ran the Runners World 10K yesterday with my daughter for a finish time of 1:20:15! I really wanted to be under 1:20, and would have been if I hadn't had to stop to pee... Ugh. But- at least I have a time so I won't have to start in the last corral!!

I'm training for the half and am wondering what y'all do to stay hydrated during your long runs? I ran 4 miles today and other than the 50 degree temps, I was ok. What I'm worried about is the 5 miles and up runs. Thanks!!

I just purchased a Nathan QuickShot Plus (also known as Sprint Plus) and I'm a big fan! I used it for the first time yesterday running a Quarter Marathon. It doesn't hold a lot of water (10 oz), but I like to take a few sips without having to stop at the water stations - so this is perfect. It has a thumb hole and an adjustable hand strap, so you don't have to grip the bottle - it just attaches to your hand. And it has a little pouch on the front, so I kept my chapstick and a little fuel in there. It does leak a tiny bit, but nothing significant. I usually can't stand holding anything while I run, so I was happily surprised by the QuickShot. Love it!

I ran the Detroit half-marathon today and PB'd! It's a mixed emotion because I'm proud of my effort, but I was really hoping to run under 2 hours and I finished in 2:01. I do have another half in a couple of weeks though so I can try again. :thumbsup2

Congratulations - still a great time! :cheer2: But I understand - I'm estimating my PHM finish time at 2 hours, and I'll be happy with my accomplishment in any event, but it will be a wee bit disappointing if I don't get that 2 hours or under. I ran a 10K in 53 minutes and a Quarter Marathon in 54 minutes, so I hope 2 hours is possible for the PHM. But it's my first half, so I'm not sure! I like your plan to have another half coming up so that you have another chance to try. I think I'll register for another half in June, so if my PHM time doesn't reach the goal, I have another chance coming up!

Congrats!! I totally know the feeling. You'll get it soon - it took me a few 2:02s before I finally nailed the elusive 1:59. Great job!!

Congrats! That is still a great time. It was beautiful race weather today. Enjoy your accomplishment and take the next week to recover--no/very light running.

I ran this too! I finished in 1:10 so as of right now, it is probably what I will be submitting to disney as it is a better time than my Broad Street Run time. I'm doing the Philly half next month so once that is over, I will submit whichever time is best of those two.

I also use a Quickshot and agree with all of the above. I put whatever fuel I'm using in the little pouch, that way I don't have to worry about fumbling in my belt and potentially losing my ID/car key/etc.

Hi all! I got a little bit of a small taste of what GSC will be like. As mentioned above, I did the RW 10K yesterday and was very happy with my finish/the race in general.

Today I ran in a local 13K. I basically ran it for the whole reason of receiving an award. It was the third and final race in a "hat trick series" that the community does. They do three races of three different distances over the course of the year and if you do them all, you are eligible for special awards. After the second race, there was only one other girl in my age group so I was guaranteed at least second place. The race went surprisingly well, however I did start to really feel it in my legs around mile 6. I still managed to finish in about 10 minutes less than I thought I might so that was nice. It also ended up having a very small turn out so I got second place in my age group for the race as well because there were no other girls my age, LOL. Oh well, I'll take it. ;)

Are you guaranteed to be out of the last corral if you submit a 10K time? I ran my first 10K yesterday. My time wasn't very good, but it's better than nothing right? Please correct me if I am wrong about this. Or if anyone knows the highest 10K time you can submit to move up corrals. Thanks!

According to RunDisney, proof of time is required if you expect to finish in less than 3:15. This equates to about a 1:28 10k. So if you ran faster than that, then I would submit it.

OTOH, the supposed proof of time reqt. for Wine and Dine was for an expected finish time less than 2:45, yet the last corral is for a time of >3:15. So who knows what the last corral will be for Princess.

9 days until I start the "finish in the upright position" training plan by Jeff Galloway. I ran my first 1/2 last October and was ill prepared. I have been doing 5K's here and there....is that an OK starting point for the 1/2 training plan by Jeff? Has anyone else done it? I am in PA so I think the cold weather between now and February can only help build up my endurance! So excited...here's my new medal holder to start my bucket list of running every Disney race...can't wait to fill it up! I'll be at jingle jungle in a few weeks, then the 10K in January, and then Princess. WOO HOO

I have been reading along and I am impressed with all the training and racing you girls are doing. Keep it up! :thumbsup2

This will be my 6th Princess Half, but first back/back/back weekend. Since an IT band issue in 2009 I only run 3 times a week, so this should be interesting. I have been working on a plan to keep me healthy as well as get some back to back runs in. I went to a CHi running clinic a couple of weeks ago and am trying to work on my form as well as my core strength.

I am not doing too much running right now, more walking and did 8 miles yesterday at a 12:40 pace. It is easy to think about form while walking, but walking that long at that pace it hard. Several times I just wanted to run. I don't know how you girls do all the walking, but if it gets you to the finish line then keep it up.

I just want to say, don't look at the Half as your destination. Think of it as a journey. Don't stop running/walking after the weekend, but continue it for a lifetime. You may be discouraged if you don't finish in the "best" time or do as well as you wanted, but you will have done it. And maybe you will find that "racing" is not for you, but you can continue your journey of healthy physical exercise. Maybe you will continue to run or walk races or maybe you will take up hiking (I love to hike) or another activity, but don't stop moving!

I'm impressed you can walk that fast. I run/walk 4 min/30 sec. My walk is horribly slow.

I agree. Everyone that isn't fast (me included) needs to remember that we only race within our limits. It would be easy to get discouraged with our pace when you read about 2 and even 2 1/2 hour finishes. I'm not sure if I'll ever attain that kind of speed. And I do run 5 days a week and cross train 2 days a week. But, I do finish and go on to enjoy the balance of the day after the race. I've finished five 1/2 marathons and have another 4 scheduled in the next few months and a Full marathon. I guess I'm a turtle, but the rest of you turtles gain heart. We all get the same health benefits and garner the same medal and satisfaction that we are doing something a year ago I would have never dreamed possible.
Train happy. The finishing line is worth it. :)

ok- question. I hope you can follow.....I am registered for the Princess half. I really want to do the GSC now. If I buy GSC bibs from someone would it be possible to use that 10K bib and my half bib and still get the gSC medal. If so, I would sell the half bib that i bought to my friend who has decided to run the PHM. That way I could still at least run the half in my name and still get all the medals. Does that make sense? Or is it somethig on the half bib that lets them know you get the GSC medal. My other option is just do it the same way and just have my friend give me the GSC medal. Thanks.

yep, they are tied together. When you register for the GSC you will actually wear the same bib for 10k and 1/2....or at least that is how they have done the other race challenges. Sorry!!

OK so now I'm kind of freaking out....

I originally was going to go to WDW with my 20 year old niece for 5 nights for the GSC. Well now my sis in law says "you know the following weekend after Princess there's the Swamp House 1/2 about 45 minutes away from Orlando, want to run it with me". I put about 15 minutes of thought into it and changed my airfare and registered for the Swamp House.

So now I'm sending the niece home by herself after we do our 5 nights and then staying on thru MArch 4th!!!! Holy cow that is 12 nights away from my family. So it looks like 5 nights with niece, 3 nights by myself, and 4 nights with the sister in law. ALL at Disney hotels......

I cant believe I'm doing this. My fantastic husband said GO FOR IT, what an adventure....

Omg that's awesome! Living the dream. :thumbsup2 Not sure that i could do two halfs, but that is going to be an amazing trip. Good luck!!

I use the Amphipod RunLite 4 Hydration Belt and I LOVE it!!! You can add/remove as many bottles as you'd like. Each of the 4 I have are 8oz. For 5 miles in the heat of summer I may bring 2 bottles, for 12 miles I used all 4 and refilled them. Just used it for TOT 10-miler and it was perfect. Wide-necked bottles that you can easily refill at water stations.

My sister has been running for a few years and never used a belt until I got her one of these. Now she won't do a long run without it. :)

Hi All! I'm new to running - started in April and worked by way up to running the ToT 5K and ToT 10-miler this month.

I'm registered for the PHM, and if I follow the training program I did for ToT, I'd start that in early December. My question is: WHAT DO I DO IN THE MEANTIME? Keep something like week-2 of a program on a loop until training officialy starts? More? Less?

I'm sure that there are many different ways that people handle this... curious how some of you awesome runDisers do it! :)

what does the starting week of your HM training look like? what was your final week like before the TOT races? find a balance between those and i would try to run 3x a week to keep up your endurance.

and congrats on the TOT finishes :)

:yay: That sounds like a terrific long break for you - enjoy it!

I haven't had more than a few weeks between training schedules for a long time, but that's pretty much what I do: keep running 3 times a week, 2 short and one long with the long run staying around 6 miles. With more weeks available, I might cycle up and down a couple times, up to maybe 8 and back down if I'm feeling good and am uninjured.

Hi gang- super excited, I finally pr'ed my 10k! It was almost 2 years to the day (I don't count training runs into this equation only races). Yep I've waited that long to pr..... The only reason I'm sharing this is in hopes it might help someone else out there. The first mile I went out much faster then I normally do then paid for it during mile 2. I figured a PR was not going to happen. I'm the type of runner that plays it safe always. Too afraid to push it I might: hurt my knees, trip, burn out by mile xxxxx and not be able to finish, etc etc. Well, I decided that it was time! I was trying to add things up in my head and thought there was no way it was going to happen.... Then I just focused. I know it sounds corny, but I just focused on every word of every song that was playing and ran. I wanted to stop and walk so bad, old habits of pulling back are hard to break! I finished and pr'ed by a whopping 40 seconds!! So I guess what I'm trying to say is you might go out and think the race is starting bad but it can be turned around. I'm super proud of myself for pulling out of the safe zone and allowing myself to go for it!

Wishing happy running for you all this week! Don't forget to Dig Deep.......

Michele

Question for anyone who has worn a sparkle skirt type skirt or a tutu over either shorts or capris? Do you attach the skirt to either your shirt or shorts/capris in any way (sewing, pinning, etc.)? I'm thinking of doing a skirt over compression shorts but concerned about the two waistbands and the shirt all sliding around or up and down and bugging me.
