Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess half marathon board)

Another suggestion--if you still enjoy running vs. run/walking. I follow a plan called "Run Less/Run Faster"--don'let the name scare you off. But basically, it's 3x/week--one interval workout/one tempo run/one long run. What I like about it: 3x/week is less wear/tear on the body and since I didn't start running til age 49, I liked that. I also like the variety of the workouts. And it's based on whatever your current fitness level is, i.e. the training paces are based on current 5k time.

Granted, this type of workout is still geared towards improving race result, but it's not ultra high mileage.

Otherwise, I think Galloway is a good way to go. I have no experience with it, but a lot of WISHers do--even have at least one Galloway leader on the boards.

Good luck,

Maura

I might have to check that one out. Thanks.

Ran my first 10K yesterday so I would have something to submit when I register on Tuesday!!! (I know I can email them as well later in the year but my OCD brain needed a time to submit WHEN I actually register too!) ;)

It was really hilly but I got it done! 1:08:11! I was happy with that, although the hills really slowed me down. I ran it at 1:06:43 in training and didn't push nearly like I did for this race during training, so I know those hills killed it but I'm pleased to have this to submit!! So excited to register!!! :cool1:

That is a great time! Last year a 1:07 10K got me in Corral B for the Princess.

I have had to learn this too EGO has no place in this (or anything really ;) You MUST listen to your body, easy easy I keep telling myself...think like the tortoise (at least at first) slow but steady wins the race and it truly works If I rush headlong into things and push myself when I shouldn't then comes the inevitable setback..not fun and can be painful

Can you come to my house and repeat this to me every morning? I have such a problem with my ego and running. I think because I'm overweight I feel like I have something to prove. Ugh, it is hard to quiet that persistant EGO!

I did a 60 minute Walk Away the Pounds - 4 Mile Walk Express DVD today and it is surprising how challenging it is. I really like that it has a lot of lateral movements and leg lifts/kicks that have helped strengthen some of my weak hip stabilizers. If you're not doing any cross training this is a pretty great thing to start with. Challenging but not going to injure you and the moves are really basic if you're choreographically challenged like I am!

Lets put it this way, when you push you injure..simple as that When part of my restrictions were lifted during physical therapy I lost the right to park closer to where I work I had to walk, pain with each step, take a few steps stop rest look around everyone walking normal pace

I was always a fast walker native New Yorker just what we do :rotfl: so now I was embarassed, proud, and the EGO kicked in So I pushed through the pain and made myself walk faster Then I realized, "Hey stupid, the heck with everyone else this is about you and if you don't make yourself slow down (my leg muscles were screaming) you are going to defeat everything you have accomplished" So if you didn't live so far from me I WOULD come to your house and remind you every morning :) You'll be fine just listen to your body NOT your ego

I am over the moon tonight I went to a 2 hr meet with Jeff Galloway and got my first pair of GOOD running shoes ever in my life Met a lot of really nice encouraging people, got info about a Galloway training group in my area and I am so pumped up for this adventure

So my friend if I can do it so can you :yay:

Can you come to my house too please? I am chronically injured and I often return too quickly and re injure myself. Such as now. Apparently I did not start back slowly enough and my foot is hurting again. :(

TInted moisturizer, cherry chapstick, and waterproof mascara are a must.

Why chapstick, I've seen this often in the what to take lists.

Also are you guys kidding me...tinted moisturizer???? I make enough moisture for all of us...I basically pour sweat starting from mile 3!!!

Cool, thanks for sharing!! I have some pretty weak hip stabilizers too and I always find they're such a tricky part to strengthen. I'll have to check out that DVD :thumbsup2

Ran a 10k yesterday, and had an awful race...felt so nauseous starting around mile 3, and quickly went from a PR attempt to just gutting out a finish. Was trying to figure out what went wrong all day yesterday - weather was pretty decent, I went out an appropriate pace, etc. Well this morning I woke up, had a banana and a clif bar to fuel for a long run...and well, let's just say ive figured out that I def have a stomach bug, and did make it to my long run (and it takes alot for me to bag a run) But at least now I know why my race went so wrong haha

You can come here I have plenty of room :goodvibes feel better

Wait, does the bib show your princess's name or your name? (and I can't believe I'm asking a question like that about a 1/2 marathon!)

I'm wondering the same thing. My daughter actually loves Tinkerbell, so that will be her costume, but Tink isn't a princess, so she must have to pick a princess for bib color? Has anyone ever had a different bib than what their costume was?

I like cherry chapstick because it has just a small tint of red/pink that gives your lips a little color and a little shine, won't sweat off, small enough to fit in my Fuel Belt, and keeps my lips from getting sun burnt. And the best part is....when your a hot mess after running 13 miles it won't be smeared all over your face like lipstick will :thumbsup2

does anyone know how I would register as a Team with my friend? Do I need to register both of us or do we do it individually and then say we are a team?

You will register separately and then pay a small fee to "team" up.

Love wearing chapstick during races. I buy Burt's Bees b/c it has a variety of tints to choose from. Smells delicious too! This is also a hint for pre-portable potty trips - tab a little just under your nose before entering.

Did some TM work this morning....I hate the TM but I needed to get in some intervals and just no time tonight. I don't like going out alone in the morning so the TM is the only option.

Hope everyone had a awesome weekend.!!!!!!!!

Sorry about the race and hope your stomach feels better soon. Since you're all trained up for a 10k PR attempt, maybe you can find another race in the next couple of weeks to try again.

Oh I hope you feel better!! But way to go, pushing through the race regardless!!!

Ran my first half yesterday. I barely trained in the month of May and it showed. Quickly changed my hope of finishing around 2:45 to just making it in under 3. Finished in 2:52. Probably would have actually hit my goal if half of mile 12 (no exaggeration!) hadn't been one of the largest hills I have ever seen.:sad2: I love hills (don't ask me why, lol) but a half mile long hill at the end of a race does not qualify for that love.;)

I'm going to hold off on sending in a time to rundisney until after my next half in November, I think. There are barely any 10ks in the Philadelphia area, and I don't really understand why. Hopefully one of those pops up between now and November because I would love to do one because I know I would have a better time to submit. I hate the idea of waiting until November to submit a time.

I feel your pain on the no 10K thing. I ran one back in April before I was ready because it was the only one in my area before July 4th  I've actually found more halfs than 10ks this fall! I'm going to try to run a couple to get my time lower for the PHM!

You can send them any time you have now and if you get a better one, email them with an updated proof of time. I have done that a few times, but any update must be before the deadline date.

Ugh I had my second worst run ever today. I got swarmed by yellow flies (deer flies) half way down a wooded trail and got bit at least twice.
I think this could net you a Bad Run award of some sort - that's awful!

So I registered for the PHM but now I'm considering the glass slipper challenge and just walking the 10K. Do you guys know if there's any way to change my registration?
Should be, but it probably won't show up until registration opens for all. Under the Registration tab, scroll down to the Cancellation and Transfer Policy. A link will show up there for transferring from one race of the weekend to another. You can look in the same place for the WDW Marathon weekend to see the link and how it all works. Note that there's a fee, too.

That's a GREAT time - WTG!

I was hoping someone here knew for sure.

I was just on the Rundisney sight looking for host hotel info for Princess weekend. It basically listed every hotel I can think of on Disney property. Is this event now as big as marathon weekend and every hotel will provide transportation to expo and races?
Yep - all WDW resorts were hosts this year - it's THAT big!

Ran a 10k in the rain today. I don't run in the rain ever (or snow or too cold or too hot- call me goldilocks!).
Woo hoo!!! I have to laugh because I spend half my summer runs hoping for rain. :rotfl:

:rotfl2: I hear ya! Though not so much in Feb. - this Floridian gets cold under 65*.

That sounds marvelous! I wish there were a Galloway group close enough for me to go to. You sound like you are doing this the right way :thumbsup2.

Good shoes make such a huge difference. Enjoy!
