Am I crazy? The last time I ran was probably in high school(I'm 26:rotfl2:). I am overweight and want to get into shape. Could I really start training now and be okay? Does anyone have any tips for someone who has no idea what they are doing? Should I register now? Am I going in over my head? Is it even realistic to go from 0 to running a half marathon 7-8 months? I might just be crazy.

Many on here have already written you to encourage you that it's definitely possible. I just wanted to chime in my agreement, as that was exactly what I did! I had never been a runner, and 8 months before the inaugural tinker bell half, I decided I wanted to do it. Just take it step by step, don't rush your training, and you'll be fine. I started with couch to 5 k, did a 5k in August, and then did hal higdon's novice half marathon training plan.

I loved your blog!!! It is so hard, I get comments a LOT from people!! Some don't mean any harm, but others unfortunately do

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement!

I love your blog! I shared it on my Facebook page.

Loved the blog!

Thanks for the positive comments on the blog post. Weight is a sensitive subject to me and I thought getting my feelings out there would help me not let that negative comment "fester". Thanks for the support. :grouphug:

I get the same medal as the chic only wearing panties and a jog bra. People do some serious pornographic warm up stretches before a half marathon, I try not to watch but it's like driving by a damn car wreck, I can't help but stare.

That is hilarious!!! :rotfl2:

Do they email it to you? Hope to run into you

Just to echo what others have said, the day of the race, the results will show up online. You just have to email disneysports@trackshack.com with the name of the race you are registered for, what race you want to use as proof of time, and your finish time. They will look it up online to verify, so they will also need to know what name you were registered under. I'm sure you won't be the only one submitting a time from Space Coast, so it should go pretty smoothly.

The track shack people are pretty quick at returning emails in my experience. I emailed last week with a new proof of time for the Disneyland half and they replied within 24 hours, saying they updated my registration information.

In my travels today looking for new walking shoes. I saw lime green shirts at dick's sporting goods and jcpenny of all places.

I plan on doing a 5k on August 18, a 10k on October 12 and maybe fit something else in somewhere and then of course the PHM.

I saw that the Galloway training plan for the 5k is 15 weeks long. I only have 11 weeks until the 5k. Will that be okay?

Just bought an AP before prices increase tomorrow. Dont know whether to puke or jump up and down!! :faint::banana:

Just wanted to let all the new runners know that I was you at the princess in 2012. That was my first one. In two weeks I will be running my ninth half. Here are the things I have learned: There are people much faster then me and much slower then me. Don't count old folks out, I'm 39 and have been smoked by a ton of 70 year olds. I get the same medal as the chic only wearing panties and a jog bra. People do some serious pornographic warm up stretches before a half marathon, I try not to watch but it's like driving by a damn car wreck, I can't help but stare. I set my goals small for every race, my last race I just tried to beat all the women with bigger butts then me. It made me feel better about my big butt. I've learned how to hold my breath for 55 seconds at mile 10 when I open the port a potty door. I've learned it truly truly does not matter how fast you run. You are doing something that most people don't even think about doing. Be proud of what you are trying to accomplish, and what you WILL accomplish.

The number one thing I've learned: how do you finish a half marathon? One foot in front of the other. Nothing more, nothing less.

Dig deep.

Michele

Thanks for the chuckles

They did. It was a big drama scene on a few FB boards. There was a link, but you could get to a page on active.com by just googling princess half active 2014. I've got too much girl scout in me to register on a site that clearly wasn't supposed to be open but a lot of people did.

I sent RunDisney an e-mail asking for an update on what happened today and if it is going to impact the number of openings for the Glass Slipper Challenge and the half for AP early registration on June 6. I'll let you guys know if I hear anything.

I really dislike Active.com, I think their service is a rip-off. My work has multiple complex online payment systems that we developed in house with a relatively (compared to Disney) small IT staff. I don't understand why RunDisney can't develop its own online registration and payment system to bypass Active.com's technical glitches (like this one) and overpriced fees.

OK, rant over. I try to stay positive, but the possibility that I might lose out on getting early registration to GSC because I chose to play by the rules does make me a little annoyed. I'm trusting RunDisney to do the right thing and I truly think they will!

Holy moly! Unreal! I hope they cancel those who registered. That would be the fair thing to do. It's unfortunate that some would register when they knew it was not right. Wow.

I just emailed them, also.

I read about this earlier too on FB, and saw a few mention that it was actually supposed to be a link to register for those that deferred from the 2013 race...was that not true? I was getting really irritated and stressed about it so I just put the iPad away and stopped reading so I never found out if that was actually what it was. I'm very curious to find out what runD has to say in response to your email though, if they acknowledge it at all. I'm with you, not sure why the registration process isn't more 'in house'...I'm not a big fan of Active either...their website always annoys me, I can never easily find anything I'm looking for there usually. I really hope they've shut it down.

I share in everyone's frustrations with this Active.com site. I am really annoyed right now and it takes alot to get me upset. See if they respond to my email, as well.

All I know is that I was able to just google "Princess Half Active 2014" and it took me straight to what looked like an open registration page. It had regular registration for all the races, Expo registration and AP registration options. I picked Glass Slipper Challenge, put in some fake info (my name was Test Tester lol) and went to the next page and it gave me the option of adding on the Tink Half. I shut it down without going any further, I had no intention of using it, but wanted to see if it referenced the deferral and it didn't. I think an Active.com programmer was updating it and screwed up and opened it up accidentally.

Now, if I google the same phrase, the page it takes me to does not have active registration, so I think they figured out it was a glitch and shut it down. I think some of the people who registered today did it because they got shut out of things like DDD because of link sharing, but still, I don't think it's right to use a link that is clearly a mistake. Just my opinion, and I may end up not getting to do GSC because of it, but that's ok, it's really not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, right?
