Silly question,
Will they give the discount ticket rate for the 10k. I have a friend that will
Only do the 10k but wants the event discount tickets. I think they will offer the discount but wanted to ask the experts to make sure.

Am I crazy? The last time I ran was probably in high school(I'm 26:rotfl2:). I am overweight and want to get into shape. Could I really start training now and be okay? Does anyone have any tips for someone who has no idea what they are doing? Should I register now? Am I going in over my head? Is it even realistic to go from 0 to running a half marathon 7-8 months? I might just be crazy.

I don't think you are crazy at all. I am 33 and in October of 2011 I decided to sign up for the half in January 2012. I wasn't running at all at that time. And I did it with JeffGalloway's help. Look up his run/walk training plan. You can do it!

No, you are not crazy. Well... maybe a little. I think anyone (myself included) who enjoys going out and running for hours for fun has to be a little nuts. The biggest thing about training for a race though is committing to it. You can't just sorta, throw it together at the last minute. So as long as you can commit to it, then yeah, you can do it. Running can be SO rewarding. It can be invigorating, exciting (and humbling). But distance running is not easy - at least not for most people. Body parts will hurt, you'll need to figure out the whole "shoe" thing, life will get busy, and if you're like me, you'll find yourself grumbling about being the designated driver at more than one holiday gathering because you have a "long run" planned for the next morning. But you will also have a huge sense of accomplishment and probably learn more about yourself along the way than you would have imagined.

I say, go read Jeff Galloway's half marathon training plan on the runDisney site, load some fun tunes on your mp3 player, and try the first week of it. Start very slow - slower than you want to. walk a lot. Do that for a few weeks and then if you're enjoying it, sign up for the Princess!

You could always go solo and meet up with other runners :)

Sorry you might miss it (but I agree that you should consider a solo trip, lots of ladies here meet up and some even share rooms to save $$) but it sounds like you have a great attitude and plan for 2015. Stick around and keep posting!

Thanks for the solo trip idea, but I just don't think I could do that. I REALLY hate doing things by myself, plus I don't think I could justify the expense for just me.

I'm OK with waiting until 2015. It will be hard (it's killing me now that registration is getting closer), but I think it will be for the best in the end. I will be a stronger runner by then and I have more time to save up so that we hopefully won't go broke by making the trip. :goodvibes

Definitely not crazy. I started training in July 2011 for the Halloween 5k, then immediately signed up for the Princess and started training with the Princess training program which started the same week with a 3 mile run. Finished the 2012 Princess as my first half, and have done 5 more since!

My suggesion is to sign up for a 5k around September/October. The Galloway 5k training plan is 15 weeks and starts at just 10-15 minutes. If you live near Disney, I suggest you sign up for the 5k attached to ToT, follow the Galloway 5k plan, and then switch over to the Princess plan, which should start with 3 miles the same weekend. If you do that, there is no way you won't finish the Princess! :)

Edit: I was also 40 pounds overweight and seriously had negative running experience. I was always the last kid to cross the finish line in the mile in high school. I had a Disney 5k on my bucket list, and no one thought I would even do that! I am now 40 pounds lighter, running three times a week, doing strength training two to three times a week, and basically a healthy person. I highly suggest the Galloway plan to anyone!

No crazy at all! Create a plan and a support group and go for it!

You should have no problem registering with a nickname. I've never used my first name for any race registration and have never had a problem. My nickname is a typical one for my middle name, but not even close to my first name. Like a PP, I blame my dad -- as he's the one who's called me it from the beginning:)

Thank you all for your support ^_^

If you are, I'm crazy with you! I'm 25 and will be 26 for the run, I've actually never run and am also overweight. Never really done the running thing. Though, I want to do the 10k :)

We'll be in the same boat!!:flower3:

I think the fairy godmothers must be working their magic!

I went online to mydisneyexperience.com and my Disneyland AP is showing up (even tho this site is WDW) AND I can see the registration for the WDW January Marathon! I can even click on a link. Woo Hoo!:yay:

So if I've made it this far (my disney experience. select EVENTS SPECIAL OFFERS, select EARLY REGISTRATION RUNDISNEY) should I be seeing anything about the Princess run here? ( because it only says to check back for this run).

Thanks!

Count me crazy too! Although I'm planning on walking most of it. I think running the whole way might be a little bit too much to handle. I'll be doing it solo, so I'm hoping to find training support and meet up with other DIS'ers.

I am going to start taking daily walks for a week or two and then start the training plan extra slow. Maybe do each "week" twice in the beginning? I am so excited right now! I hope it stays that way!

We have a trip booked right now for 09/01-09/11 and I have changed it at least 3 times so far. DH will not let me change it again! I am going to look for something local.

Thank you all for your support ^_^

So I'm not the only one :grouphug: I was thinking about the 10k. I will probably just do the princess and try to find a local 10k to do so I can get a "proof of time."

I'm probably going to be doing it solo as well.

Another solo runner here! I had a rough training run today. I have been on vacation for a month and I only got to run about 4 times. I decided to try easing back in with a 1:1 run/walk. Good idea right? The bad part was when I decided to run faster, since I was only running for a minute. Long story short it was hard, and the thought crossed my mind that if I can't even run 2 miles, maybe I can't do a half. Yeah. That was not my finest hour. Onward and upward! 10K training starts next week, and I have a 5K on Sunday!

At least you ran!! You'll get ur groove back!

Man, this thread is moving fast lately, I'm having a hard time keeping up! OK, this is going to be a long one...

If she was busted she'd be banned from future GRR. They use to allow stollers and I was so bummed when I found out you couldn't run with one anymore. I can't stand how crowded the GRR finish area is. I always jump the fence. Can't imagine how someone with a stroller made it through.

Oh and I was strictly talking about rundisney events banning stollers in the 5k. There are loads of stroller friendly races.

Are you in Jax? Are you involved with any of the running groups.

I was surprised to see a stroller at all as crowded as it was, much less a DOUBLE stroller! And she was running UP the Hart bridge pushing it! Crazy. I grew up in Jax, but I live in Gainesville. The River Run is so much fun, I don't mind a little drive to get there.

I am doing space coast. I figure if you email your time same day you run (dec 1) then they should take it.

Put down your watch time if they don't have an official number for you. Should be close enough. :)

I'm doing Space Coast too! The half (unless I have some amazing training breakthrough between now and then!) :rotfl2:

I'm so glad I found this thread!!

Okay, so I'm going to do my first ever run/jog/walk event with Disney ^_^ I chose this one!! I was all set for doing the 5k but that 10k is REALLY tempting and looks fun. I know there are 8 week plans for 5k and I think I could do that as soon as my new work schedule starts, but now, since I have time, I was wondering if you guys think I could do the 10k?

I have never done any sort of activity like this, I am very out of shape and I am out of weight. However, I have signed up for a walking activity with work and have a pedometer (and am walking more).

I really would like your guys' opinion if you think I could do the 10k. I would love to do it :)

You can do it! Just get a good walking base, pick a 10k training plan and stick to your plan. Galloway is a great method! :woohoo:

Do you ever have an issue with packet pickup using a nickname? When I did a tri last year I was worried about that, so I put my full legal name since that's what's on my id. But while was racing, whenever I heard someone yell great job "(insert hated first name:)" it didn't occur to me for 15-20 seconds they were talking to me. I never, ever use that name except on official documents. I'd much rather have my nickname on my bib. Does Disney give you a nickname option?

I wish all races would let you specify what you want on the bib. I go by my middle name (my Mom, mother in law and grandma all have my first name too (Mary), so it would be insanely confusing, plus my parents have always called me by my middle name). It is strange when I have a bib with Mary on it! I think I may just strike it and start putting April as my first name on all race registrations from now on.

Did I read the rundisney site correctly? The kids races will be on Friday and Saturday? I'm bringing my GD who will be 5 and she wants to run 200 yard dash. I don't think she will be ready for a solo 1 mile race yet. I want he first race to be magical.

I'm wondering if that's because they haven't figured the schedule out completely yet and they're leaving it open for them to pick one day or the other?

You've got this. You may be crazy, but you've got this. Just start training now, get a good walking base, a good training plan and STICK TO IT! :yay:

Running too fast at the start can result in a rough run. Good luck on your 5k Sunday! :thumbsup2

I had a discouraging experience last week on my long run and decided to try to turn it into something positive by openly discussing it here. ETA: It's about the challenges of running while not-skinny. Let me know what you think:

Ain't that the truth!:lmao:

I have drank the night before a long run. DON't DO IT!!!!

I usually have a glass or two of wine the night before a long run...I really don't think it's that big of a deal. Now running double digits with a massive hangover, that's another story (not that I would know or anything lalala)

It's all about balance in your life

The important thing is that you got out and ran. It's totally normal to have those "thoughts" cross your mind mid-run. Just create a mantra to combat it. When I get into a negative self-talk mode (and I've been there lately) I repeat "Strong Mind" over and over again. You'll find your mojo!

I love Gainesville. So super jealous of your Trader Joe's! I've been sending new location requests since I moved to Jax in 01. Grrr..... soon though! We may need to plan a mini meet-up at Space Coast. Maybe during breakfast after the race? I will definitely check out your blog.

Hi all!
So I'm a HUGE Disney fan and a new, although passionate, runner. I plan to dress as Rapunzel for the PHM. Has anyone done this before? Do you find any specific part of the costume is cumbersome for running? Also, for Rapunzel, does anyone have suggestions for the hair and the tiara? I want a replica tiara but I only seem to find nice handmade ones for like $200 - and I don't think it's a good idea to wear something that pricey while running for 13.1 miles!Any help and advice is appreciated, and congrats in advance to you other princesses - and princes too!

Sounds fabulous! Just test out each part of your costume before race day & post pics!!!!
