Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess half marathon board)

I signed up for an 8k here (part of a larger marathon/half marathon event - also geared towards women so *almost* like the PHM!) as the timing worked out such that the day of the race is the same day in my training that I have a five mile run.

Today (the race is on SUNDAY), they released the course maps and stated the 8k route is actually 8.8k, and they planned it this way the entire time. The statement says that they thought 10k runners would think 8k is too easy and might be encouraged to sign up for the half. :sad2:

It should not be a problem for me but I can't imagine if you were training and this was your first race and you were planning on 8k and being hit with almost 9k!

Oh well, just keep running, with eyes on next February!

Ok, hopefully I can get back into the swing of things this week. My knee is feeling better and hubby just surprised me with a new pair of Saucony Progrid Ride 5 sneakers! Comfy!

That's good that your knee is feeling better and how sweet of you hubby for getting you a new pair of shoes. My mom just gave me a pair of brand new Saucony's that she got and they hurt her knees too bad.

Crap, I hope these don't do the same thing! I did get my feet evaluated at the running room and these were the most comfortable ones I tried on.

I think you should be fine. My mom has had 2 partial knee replacements though. I have to go get fitted for a pair soon because I have super high arches from years of dance and also I know when I run I hit heel first so it's like I go through shoes faster. I'm hoping these work for me but if not then I will find a different pair.

Has anyone tried Newton's? They stand by their shoes. They also say that if you do not like their shoes after 30 days of wearing you can return them. I haven't tried them yet but thinking that my next pair I will.

The running store here, has a Newton rep come once an month and does a short clinic and then you can choose to go out for a run with them.

Downfall...Spendy.

Ohhhh that's so awesome!! The store where I bought mine (also every shoe store in my area that I'm aware of!) has a zero return policy if the shoes have been worn:sad2: And since I'm in Canada all our shoes are insanely expensive (these ones were $214 with tax). My first few runs with the new shoes were great thankfully but yesterday I came home from my run with a weird medium-bad bruise on the side of my foot in a place that wasn't even hurting while I ran! :confused3 So I'm hoping I just laced that shoe too tightly or something.... is that even possible?

Anyone running solo? I have been watching the Youtube videos and getting so excited. I have decided that I am going to run for fun and NOT for time. Last summer I did that with another race and it was actually more fun and enjoyable. Anyone want to be running partners? We can be virtual while we are training and then meet up at Disney and run together. Wouldn't that be fun.

I might be doing this solo. Would love a virtual partner. PM if interested in being virtual pals and holding me accountable. Vicki

I'm not sure I would want to actually run WITH someone during the race, but I might like to be virtual pals and get to know some solo runners before the race!

I wonder if anyone has started a FB group yet for 2014 solo Princess runners? I don't even know if there's a 2014 FB for the race yet.

Not sure if there is a FB page. I don't do much on that. Although I do belong to one community called Moon joggers. I use this and the dis boards to learn, gather information and share success stories. It also keeps me focused on my PHM goal as I agreed to walk/run 1000 miles over this year.

For the 2013 Princess, we had a thread for Solo traveling princesses. It was very helpful. As a bonus, I was able to meet internet peeps in person and made some really great friendships.

I will wait a couple of days to see who all is interested. I will create a FB page and post the link on here. All those that would like to join feel free.

I would be interested. It's always nice to see others progressing while you are!!

Your ticker made my heart skip. 10 months actually seems SOON!

LOL Not soon enough. We are supposed to get up to a foot of snow starting tonight! I am praying really hard that it does not come.

Hopefully you're not snowed in!

I just met Kathrine Switzer, first woman to run in the Boston marathon as a registered runner. She was quite amazing and so friendly!! Does any one know if she's ever been a speaker at the PHM?
