Are you looking for an actual tutu, or a running skirt? If you are either bit crafty you can easily make one. Tutus are especially easy. Lots of instructions on google. They are no sew as well!

An actual tutu- I'm a big fan of running capris and have yet to convert to a skirt! I'll have to look it up as it's probably easiest to make my own.

The portapotties are much more frequent than every couple of miles. Just wanted to clarify, because for someone scared of not finding a bathroom there's a big difference in thinking you have to hold it for a mile versus a couple hundred meters.

There's also the option when in the parks to use the real restrooms. Again, you'd skip the first one you come across because everyone will run to it. There are several accessible ones in both MK and Epcot.

Apologies, I was referring to other races besides the ones in WDW. Never to Old was asking about that because she will be doing a half next month. I assumed it was a local race? I'm no expert on those races but, from the few I've participated in, they seem to be more spaced out than the ones at WDW but you're not competing with 26,000 other people in order to use them!

Oh yeah, you're right. I assumed she was talking about the PHM. Regular races aren't as flooded with them. But there are always bushes..... :P

Does anyone else do yoga for cross training? I did it for all of my cross training in 2012 because I had no time for anything else, but was wondering if anyone else ever has. My training schedule for my June HM is now at a point where Mondays are stretch/strength days and Wednesdays are cross-train days, and I'm thinking of just doing yoga both days.

Seriously, I know all about those fears! About the PoPs, there should be ones every couple of miles. They will also be available at the start of the race so, if you can, get there super early so you can go as often as you need to. Check the course map and drive the course beforehand. You may see some bathroom options that way as well. I just walked a half marathon last Sunday and our course had us going through two parks - both of which had real bathrooms, woo hoo!

One thing I've read about hydration is that it's most important to drink water the days leading up to a race. On race day, unless it's hot and/or humid, you can limit your water intake to a few sips beforehand [with your fuel] then drink along the course as needed. As always, practice your hydration on your long walks so you'll know what your body needs.

Also, about being a walker, again, I know all about these fears about being the only one. Yes, I do end up at the back of the pack...this time I finished fifth ..... from last. :lmao: But, if I keep a steady pace, I can pass others [runners, even!] who zip off ahead of me at the very beginning. And I will only improve.

One thing that also helped me was to look at last year's results for a race I've signed up for. That'll tell me how long it took for the slowest racers to finish. I'll also look for the number of participants in a current race. If there are several hundred or more, that's a good thing - it will mean a good range of abilities and paces. Just try to start at the very back so you'll be out of the way of the speedy ones.

As slow as I've finished, I have never encountered any volunteer or runner who has been anything less than wonderfully encouraging. They seem to be moreso with me because they know I've gone way out of my comfort zone. Now, if they'd save me a banana or two, I'd surely appreciate it!

I hope you have a wonderful time at your race. Jeff Galloway says that one of our goals for any race is to finish in a way that makes us want to do more races. And I hope this race will make you that much more excited for the PHM. You are so smart to do this race now - your nerves will be much calmer for the Princess.

1. Yes, it does. If you use it as a real watch, it stays charged up for several weeks/months.

2. I don't know. Wanna go on a research trip to find out? :goodvibes

Yay - I really do like it and hope you do, too.

I have a friend who has organized a lot of conferences and uses the first come/first served principle with her registrations. When she compared runDisney's way of doing things to a conference registration, it made sense that the early birds did get the worms. It was enough to convince me, from here on out, to register on day one for any of their races.

Thank you for all of that great advice. I will definitely consider the hydration tips. I wish I was close enough to see the course of my first practice half but it's 4 hrs away. I will just have to be surprised. I have heard its flat so that is kinda good. I am super excited about the PHM. It is my reward for getting healthy and losing weight. As far as a research trip on the watch, that could be arranged. I have a DCL trip to Alaska this summer : )

Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can get a tutu to run in? I'd like one that's fairly short so it won't be bouncing on my legs the whole race!

They are super easy to make. Just search how to make a tutu. There are several great videos. I bought the 6 inch rolls at the craft store. This worked out great and then you can make it any length you want. I will say, I couldn't stand the tule brushing against my arms. It was fine for a 5k but would drive me up the wall for anything longer. I have tried a sparkle light and a sparkle tech skirt. My favorite is the sparkle tech.

I am afraid there won't be any bushes. Part of it is on the boardwalk and I think the rest is a residential area.

Ok I am new here but really want to do the 5K in 2014 with my DDs but never done anything like this before and yes I need to get active again.....but....:scared: any advice???? I am crazy for thinking I can do this?:confused3

You're absolutely not crazy! Everyone is capable of running (or walking) at 5k race! Crossing the finish line is the best feeling in the world and completely worth while.

If you decide to do it now you've got plenty of time to work on it. I suggest starting with walking and once you can comfortably walk the distance you can start working on running. Remember- if you aren't walking you're running so don't worry about your speed! You can find great training plans on google to help you out. I know a lot of Dis runners like Jeff Galloway's training stuff.

Thanks for your support and confidence....MY DDs are all for this but mom(me ) is not so sure yet.....Thank you!

On the subject of corrals, can any past princesses shed some light on previous corral break downs? What was your submitted pace and where did you place? I know the corrals change from year to year but it would be nice to get an idea.

I submitted a 1:09 10k, that estimated a 2:33 half finish, and that got me in to corral C. This year Corral C was supposed to be those with a 2:30-2:45 finish, so it was spot on for me.

yoga is part of my cross training during the week.

Monday- AM Pilates / PM Run
Tuesday - Bootcamp Class
Wednesday - AM Run / PM Elliptical 30 mins
Thursday - Yoga in the AM / PM Elliptical 30 mins
Friday - Am Run
Saturday - Long Distance run or walk depending on the week
Sunday - Rest

I own an at home business and my bff and running partner is a yoga and Pilates instructor so she comes to my house during the week. Making my schedule so much easier than it has been in the past.

My dad used to run marathons when I was in elementary school way back in the day. He had to give them up because of his back. When I started running, he started running again. We did a couple of 5k races together and it was the best thing that my dad has ever done with me. Even though I finished before him, I would walk/run back to finish with him. He isn't able to run anymore but he can sure walk. He loves that I am still running and he wants to hear all about my races, even the small ones.

That's awesome!

I agree, this is an awesome story!!! I would love to have that connection with my parent...and hope to have it with my kids.

Most definitely you CAN do this. Start slow and work your way up to 5K. Couch to 5k is a good training app.

Oh that is so convenient!! There are lots of people offering private lessons in your own home where I live, but I would feel too awkward to do that. Having your bff do it makes it easy!!

I see you still do another form of cardio on those days as well though. I think this go-around, I'm going to have to do it that way. When I was taking yoga classes previously the classes were intense enough that it was a full workout, but the one I just started here is much more low key. I barely sweat at all today :P
