I think you should give it a go! If anything, it gets you a race to focus on and, if you end up with a time to submit, even better! I had my first ever 10K on 9/28 and I didn't get nearly as much training in as I had originally planned. I still ran and I still met my goal (which was to finish!). It's all about the little victories along the way, right? Go for it and good luck!
Thanks!! I just want to finish too:) hopefully it's not so bad.

I need a little encouragement. I started the c25k in June. Ran my first 5k in aug and have 2 more since then. Well, I ran my first 10k on sat. I came in 286 out of 288. My time was 1:38. I ran interval 2 min 15 sec run, 1 min walk. It was raining on and off (hard at times). It was a flat course-Atlantic city boardwalk. On one hand, I am really happy I finished. That was my goal. On the other hand, I can't help but feel bummed that I was third to last. And the two behind me walked the. Whole thing. I think they let me beat them cause they felt sorry for me. I averaged 15:55 but need to do better than that for the PHM. I've come so far but, feel like I'm not cut out for running.…

Oh girl...I was so where you are last year at my first 10k....felt like the SLOWEST person there and...got lost on the course....soooo embarrassing ! Be proud you finished especially in the conditions you ran. As many others have said, there are 4 months to go until PHM and you will do great. The crowd, the course and the DIS thread folks here will get you to the finish line! Keep up the good work !:cool1:

Asked this same ? on FB but wanted to get as many ideas as possible so trying here too...let's talk blisters :) I get horrid ones when I'm WALKING alot...have never ever had an issue getting them from running, weird. So, as you can guess, I usually come home from WDW with several...I get them on the bottoms of the same few toes each time I go. I fight through it because I'm dedicated to my vacation! But, what happens is that my race training ends up getting derailed because they end up too painful to run on...so I don't get any of my training runs in while on vaca. I walk the parks in good shoes (usually the same shoes I would run in, and I take a few pair to rotate each day), wear good running socks (have even tried the double-layer kind), I've tried body gliding my toes like mad, and pre-wrapping them in band aids...which never stay on for very long so don't do me any good. You would think after all these years, those particular toes would be so callused over from the blisters that end up layered on themselves that I wouldn't get them anymore, but nope, every time. Does anyone have this problem and do something magical that actually works to prevent them? I got a few suggestions on FB (a product called 2Toms Bilster Shield and then another suggested getting toe caps) that I may try, but I want as many suggestions as possible! I've never thought about it until now, but this problem really has me worried now for the 10k/half combos I'm doing at Tink and Princess...the plan posted calls for saturday walks followed by sunday long runs later on...hopefully I'll have something figured out by then!

Injini socks. Lube the toes, put the toe socks on and then relube the same toes on the outside of the sock. I will get a blister on occasion but not nearly as often as I once did.

:cheer2: I just took a look at my calendar and realized - EEK! - I'm officially into my combined WDW Half/GSC training schedule! Which atually involves a few weeks of shorter distances than I've been at, thankfully, but still... :yay:
You have a very busy running schedule! How do you manage both set of distances? Do you complete the whole Donald training and then jump in the rest of GSC later on? Will you just had long walks in the WDW half training? I ran 2 half marathon 3 weeks apart, so I just figured out it would be like the last long run and then taper ( in the end, I did not run at all in between).

:Yes to the first - when I submitted my proof of time for TOT, they emailed confirmation and gave me a new estimated finish time. As for the second, I can't figure out what in heck rD uses as a calculator, but it sure is ambitious - I submitted a 1:16:23 10K and they gave me an estimated TOT finish of 2:01:00. I've yet to see a calculator that assumes a faster time at a longer distance! :scratchin
Thank you very much about the information.... They really did have fate in you! Considering the estimated finish time they gave you, I maybe should have waited to see what they had to say about it!
I just received the confirmation email this afternoon and they said they updated our registrations with the provided proof of time. They did not say anything about the estimated finish time. Since I provided proof of time for both DH and I in the same email, I'll maybe have DH call rD to make sure his info is correct and have him ask about the anticipated finish time.... It's my first time submitting a proof of time and I'm really curious about it!:)

I'm training for the half and am wondering what y'all do to stay hydrated during your long runs? I ran 4 miles today and other than the 50 degree temps, I was ok. What I'm worried about is the 5 miles and up runs. Thanks!!

So I think I'll be in the last corral. And that's ok. My friends submitted a 1:08 10k time and 1:02 10k. What corrals do you think they'll be in?

I plan routes that have me swing by my house at the half way mark. So if I'm doing 8 miles, I will do 2 four mile loops and at the 4 mile mark I have a water bottle at the end of my driveway. If I need to use the bathroom I have that option real quick. Hope that helps!

Consider getting a hydration belt--brands like Nathan,Fuel Belt, Camelbak. It's a matter of trial and error finding what fits/works best for you. I have a Nathan 2 bottle pack that holds 20 oz--enough for me to generally run up to ~10-12 miles.

The corrals will likely be changed for 2014--more of them. So it's hard to tell right now. But based on those times, your friends would have been in C and D at the DL 1/2, B and C at the WDW 1/2. But for the Wine and Dine next month it would put them in F and G!

Thanks, I'll give it a shot....I actually have a gift card to a running store that I've been meaning to use on new socks anyway. And when you say lube...do you mean just regular ol' body glide type of product?

I'm following Jeff Galloway's training, and today was 4 miles. Whew! The longest I've ever gone!:)
Anyway, I've worked up to some running during my midweek sessions, and was able to do 4 min. walk/1 min. run intervals the entire time. It still felt really slow! On the other hand, I'm thrilled to be able to be running an entire minute now. (Gotta keep focused on the small victories!)

So my question is: Should I focus on getting faster during the midweek walk/runs and just pure endurance on the weekend or should I be focusing on getting faster every single walk/run?

Personally, I worry about my speed on the short runs. I will occasionally amp it up towards the end of the long run, if I am feeling good. It is more important to me that I finish strong than finishing fast.

I've never tried this before, so it's kind of a crapshoot, lol! I'm aiming to hit 12mi 2 weeks before Donald, take a week off for recovery, then do 11 and 12 before PHM, but I'll cut those down to 10 if needed. I've already been short recovery runs the day after long runs, so I'll just start increasing the distance on those in Nov, hitting 5-6 two weeks before GSC. I may keep my shorter runs after the longer ones and save the reverse for race weekend; we'll see.

I carry a 10oz handheld bottle or one I can attach to a belt and refill at water fountains. Pretty much every route I run has a few, which makes it easy.

With the changing of how they do corrals, it's hard to even guess. I think we'll have a better idea when Marathon Wknd corral info comes out.

Yay - congrats!

Yes, exactly! That's been a hard thing for me to accept, the long SLOW distance run, but my body is much happier if I stick to it.

My friend and I submitted a time of 1:08:20 and we are in corral F for F&W if that helps any

Also I think times are faster in runs where it's NOT women centered Ie corrals

you're right, but also look at the differences between 2012 and 2013 for w&d corral assignments: 2013 and 2012

a jump from 7 to 13 corrals with the same # of runners. it's the same with TOT: 2013 and 2012

it looks like disney has responded to the overcrowding issue in what should be a positive way. now if only they could do the same in the theme parks

wowow at first i was like F? really? but i see now they are spreading out the corrals more. hopefully that will be for the better!

Yep - I can attest that the smaller corrals helped a LOT at TOT! I went from being in C (of A-D) last year with no proof to G (ofA-J) this year with a 1:16:23 10K as proof and an estimated-by-rD finish of 2:01:00. I accidentally wound up in the far back of G and it was a little tough to get around ppl in the first few miles, but with the heat I think a lot of G folks were much slower than they normally run. Earlier corrals had no problems with congestion at all.

I ran the Detroit half-marathon today and PB'd! It's a mixed emotion because I'm proud of my effort, but I was really hoping to run under 2 hours and I finished in 2:01. I do have another half in a couple of weeks though so I can try again. :thumbsup2
