Caitsmama and 2BoysMom Thank goodness you found out in time. Not knowing anything about running shoes, will you have time to break in the correct size ones?

That is great that everyone found out what the problem was with their shoes - yes the size can make a difference. I also want to point out that a correctly fitted running shoe does NOT have to be broken in - they should fit comfortably and ready to run miles the first time you put them on. At least all of mine have been that way and that is always what I have heard. If they bother you on the first run then more likely then not they are not the right shoes for you.

I think we'll have to respectfully agree to disagree. :) Or maybe we're defining "break in" differently. Unless it is the exact same shoe (model, size, etc.) I've always heard that a short break in period is necessary.

I just want to a local running store to get fitted for a new pair of shoes. When I asked what type of return/guarantee policy they had, the salesperson told me that its not problem to bring them back. But he specifically said to make sure I wait a couple weeks and get in a few runs before deciding that the shoes aren't right for me.

Personally I took my new shoes out for the first time last night for a 3-mile run. They seem fine, but I just need to test out different things to find out what works best for me like sock thickness and how to tie the shoelaces. I'm planning to get in another couple short runs before taking the shoes out for a long 10-miler this weekend. For me how well they hold up on the long run is the real test. I'm really hoping that I don't have any problems with these new shoes because I want to bring them to WDW. I thought my old shoes had more life in them, but they seem done after only 150 miles.

well, i am happy - When i showed up at Olympia the guy said that he DID have the size i needed, that when i called earlier, they hadn't gone thru the stock boxes so he didn't think they had it..

So, i got my correct replacement size. And 6 more GU packs. :)

As for breaking in, i heard that you need a couple weeks to get a new shoe broken in.. So, my plan is to do a 4 miler Thursday, and then my 8 miler is Sat. then next week i am doing:
Mon - 3 miles
Thurs - 3 miles
Sat - 5 miles
Thats when my "taper" starts..

I'm planning on a very attractive style of hair slicked back in a low pony with a brown elastic and the bangs held back by a bondi band. You know, it takes me hours to get that look, but I feel like on race day it's important to look your best! :cutie:

Ohhh now, are you copying my stylin' look?! :rolleyes1
I thought i had copyright on that look! :lmao: Oh, well.. except i don't have any bangs..

I actually agree. The guys at my running store are also big on this. If I can't run comfortably in them there then... they don't go home with me.

Mine have always been good to go on the next run. I also don't buy dress shoes that need "breaking in" either LOL!

Elcka, Did you see your wish personalized thing on the previous page? What exactly do you want changed, I am happy to change it, i just want to be sure i do it how you want it.. Where do you want the 2 COR. 12:19 ?

Somebody had asked about the Breakfast. I am signed up for the breakfast after the 5k.

I posted my 5k bib number on the other thread I am 1582.

I hope to get to the expo around the time it opens on Friday.

Do I need to print or take anything with for the breakfast? I see it says I need confirmation, is that my confirmation email?

Hi!!! Where do I start? I'm sooooo glad I found this board (thank you Tracy!) since I'm new here... Did the DL 1/2 in 2008, going coast to coast this year!

How can I get one of those super cool princess logos (from the first page) with my name on it? Does anyone know how to do it? I'd like to pin it on my bib bottom so its in the pictures! I think "California Princess" in the big part, "Tammy" in the little part would be nice, what do you think?

Also, to whomever made that tiara hat, my hat's off to you!! Mind if I flatter you with imitation? My running club hat is hot pink, I hate to cover the logo but I just might have to... lol I'm sure they'll forgive me, after all, I'm princess for a day, right?

Thanks for any help you gals can offer me, 136 pages of posts was a lot to read thru!!!!!

Hi Caitsmama,

I posted that I wanted a super cool princess logo of my own, but now that I've seen some others I'd like to change what I posted. Would it be too much trouble for you to do one for me with 2009 in the crown and Princess Tammy in the head? I would sooooo love that!! Could you also do one for my dear friend, same way, her name is Kate? THANK YOU!!!!!

I'm also RSVP'ing to this thread, we'll both be there! I'm coming from California, and I'm so excited I could wet myself lol.....

Looking forward to meeting everyone!
Tammy

ps I tried to pm this to you but I guess I'm too new! I got a message that I didn't have enough posts yet to send you a pm. Sorry :(

Welcome Running (from a former CA girl) Divaprincess:

Don't forget to post your bib number on the other thread and you friend's too.

Running Diva - no problem, i will work on them tonight for you! :)
Aso, i will add you to the first post list. :) Where are you staying?

Elcka - I am definately going to the party at DHS.. I am in this for the haul, and i have done EMH at the MK LOTS of times, so i am looking forward to the party expierence, and seeing what they do for us. :)

How have I missed the logos??? May I pretty please have one with Pat in the crown and WDWFAN9 in the head? Thank you!!

Good training, everyone. I am still training from my couch. I have read everything I can find on shin splints. From what I have read, mine still has not healed since it is tender to the touch. however, I did find one site where a guy training for a marathon developed a severe shin splint 2 weeks before his marathon. (sound familiar??) The advice given was just to rest and ice, not worry about training. He would not lose any ground in the two weeks. I am hoping that is true since I had already done 11 and a half miles in less than 15 minutes a mile. I really was just training to keep up what I had already done. You can't imagine how hard it is not to be able to keep training. I go from being hopeful that it will be better soon to thinking that I might have to cancel for this year. Since this is the only time in my life that I have trained for something like this, if I don't do it now, I am not sure that I ever will!! I have tried every single cure that I have read about. If hanging garlic around my neck would help, I'd do that!! (Oh wait. That's to ward off vampires!). Keep training. Reading about it gives me something to do!!

Don't give up! I think the important thing right now is to rest and stay positive! Hopefully you will feel more relief by the weekend.

Well, you guys will appreciate this -- I looked at my new sneaks again today, trying to figure out why they still weren't feeling "right" - Well, turns out, they are 1/2 a size too small!!! The guy at the store gave me the wrong size! I didn't try them on at the store or really pay attention, since i was in a hurry, and had my dd with me - and they are the same shoe i have already.. well, lesson learned.
I called Olympia today, and they said they will take them back, so i am going to stop there on my way home from work.. They don't have the size i need, but i will at least get my $ back, and i can check another Olympia tonight.

But go figure, i did 10 miles the other day in shoes that were too small!! No wonder i got blisters and my big toe is SORE!! :(

Wow--go figure. What a revelation that must have been! Luckily, you didn't go out and purchase another pair before you realized.

This made me chuckle... Remember the big blood blister I got on the bottom of my foot from MY new sneakers...? Half size too big. The other way, but still similar.
Gotta get those sizes right, ladies.

Ouch! I just purchased a new pair of sneakers too, same size, but I bought new socks. They must be a really soft cotton because my heels slip a little. I guess it's back to my old socks!

That is great! You'll get to see what it's like doing a 1/2 so next year you'll be the one running a 1/2! Hope to join you next year!

I emailed Rebecca at Bondiband to see how the WISH headband orders/sales were going from her perspective. I also asked about whether she is using pink or magenta headbands since a photo someone posted on here looked pin, but then someone else posted one that definately looked magenta. She confirmed that our exclusive headband is limegreen on magenta. So, no worries. ;) She also said so far so good on her end. I am anxious to pick mine up at the expo.

I think said order by date is March 1

Well, i know she alone is doing well from me - I have 9 of them ordered. LOL
