Hello Ladies! Like Tracey, I am on my last few weeks of training for the January Half. I had a 10 miler down and SIL and I got that in last night. It was in the 30s and I think my face actually got a little bit of wind burn. Our avg pace was 15:22 and our best mile was Mile 8 at 15:00 mpm.

Tracey...Is the Ice bath worth it??? How are you doing your training from the Half in January leading up to the Half in March? I'm thinking for my LWs of doing 2 4 6 8 10 8 5 Half.

Have a great day!!!
Stacie

I'm not Tracey and you didn't ask me, but :) I didn't do an ICE bath after any of my runs or my half marathon. I DID get in a tub and fill it with tap cold water. That was MUCH easier to do and really seemed to help. I was much less sore when I did that, than when I didn't do it.

Stacy- An icebath is the only way I feel human the day after a race. I used to do mountain bike races and my legs felt like jello after a race. Just 20 min in an icebath (usually with my shorts and a tshirt on) and I felt good to go. Just like everything else in running- No pain, no gain!

I am probably going to do the Gasparilla 1/2!! (I live near Tampa) At least I don't feel like the only crazy person doing 2 big races back to back!

Cool! Maybe i'll see you there!

It's my first full and the Princess is my 3rd 1/2. I don't have high expectations for the Princess race since i'll still be coming down from the full the week before, my coach thinks i'm nuts. I'm not going to try to set a PR for that 1/2 or anything it's all about the experiance. I'm considering doanting my medals to Medals for Mettle i'm not sure i'll give up the crown one tho!

hey want-to-be-princesses! Ha ha. You guys really seem to have got into the swing of training. I got in a 9.2 mile run at the weekend and it went ok! Have started munching sharkies sweets as a reward plan- if i run for 10 mins i get a sweetie! Any walking and no sweeties for me :rotfl: just works as something to aim for when i know i've got a long time running ahead of me.
Keep it up everyone :goodvibes

:rotfl: Anything to get ya motivated!! My reward for a good run is a McDonalds Iced Coffee. Yummmmm :cloud9: Good thing it's within running distance. :yay:

This morning I was researching Disney in March and found this information about the 1/2 marathon. I have been wanting to do a Disney race but our trips never lined up. But we will be there on March 8th and I am signed up. I am so excited.

I'm trying to convince my husband to run with me but for now I'll be running solo. We are staying at the Beach Club.

Amie

Hey Stacie: I was never a fan of the ice bath, but once I started I got hooked. It works for me and does wonders for not being too sore later that day and the next day!! Anything 10 miles or over is what works for me! I find that 15 min in waist deep water that is pretty cold works. I will fill the tub with cold water to just cover my legs. The I will start to fill with ice. I will either have about 4 big packs of ziplock bags filled ahead of time and slowly add them in over a few minutes, or at the hotel you fill one of the small garbage can with ice (I did this at the DL 1/2). I put a towel over my head and around my arms to keep the top part warm and use my ipod to listen to music while I sit and wait the 15 min. You can do it first thing and just keep on your work out clothes and sit in the ice and then take a shower or take the shower first and then fill the tub. I will sit in my workout clothes in the pool right when I get home, otherwise I don't like sitting in a tub "dirty", so I take my shower first. Whatever works. I have heard that you don't want to wait too long to take the ice bath after your miles. Should try to get it in around 1-2 hours after your race.
I have another Half Marathon 2 weeks after the WDW Half, I am thinking about doing 8,10,8,12,8,Half, or something like that. I will only have 6 weeks from the Miami ING Half until the Princess Half. -yikes!:scared:

Keep getting in those miles ladies!!

Tracy

Amie: Hi and welcome!!

Hello Princesses! I started my MFM a week late, so I just jumped into week 2 of the walk/run plan. I have been running around lots at work for the last week, so even though I didn't get to start the plan last week, I feel like I still got a workout.

hey all! i completed a 10k road race this weekend- at about an 11 minute mile with no walking! Im half way there to the Princess half! lol...
the best thing is i wasnt awfully sore and felt like a human the next morning... its been my longest run to date 6.2 miles! and it was in massachusetts and cold and hilly! Im convinced i can do 13, in fl, and it being flat!!
I will continue cross training, eating better, and upping my runs every Saturday morning til march.

I just have to survive the holidays with busy work, parties, and all that food!!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: YEAH YOU! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hey princesses!

Finally got back at it yesterday with an easy 2.5 miles at my 1/2 marathon pace and pilates. Today was strictly XT, I did 30 day shred DVD and a walk with DD. I hope to get in 4-5 miles tomorrow.

I was SO glad I did the ice bath after the 1/2 last weekend. I had little to no soreness the next day. When at home, I use my cold pool, like Tracy does. I also take a few Motrin. The same day as the 1/2, I was a bit stiff if I kept still for too long, but the next day I felt fine.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Just returned from WDW a couple of hours ago. While there, took advantage of the return registration rate to book a room at the Contemporary for the race week-end. DD has convinced me to walk my first half marathon. (She is going to run her first marathon ever in the Disney marathon in January.) I have been in training (and to see the knee doctor!!). I have not registered yet because I am concerned about the pace. The distance does not seem to be a problem for me. My fastest pace was a mile in 12 minutes 40 seconds ( on a track at the rec center). I have done 4 miles in 56 minutes outside. The longest distance I have gone is 8 miles. This wasn't difficult, but it wasn't fast!

I have been lurking on this board for a while. I don't see a lot of information about the walkers. For you experienced walkers, how difficult is it to maintain that pace of 16 minutes? I don't want to get picked up by the sweepers!!

Oh yes,I forgot to mention: I'm retired, overweight and have arthritis in both knees. Honestly, what do think is the likelihood of me finishing the race in time?

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

hi welcome to the boards! thanks for jumping in!
I too am worried about the sweeping thing, but ive heard/read that the 16 minute mile is for the last person who starts the race, so i plan on getting to the front of my starting grid to get me that little advantage.
we will all be there fo one another!! We will finish!!
we have 3 months to train and get moving- if you've done 8 miles, your way ahead of me!!

Hi Queen Mimi and welcome!

If you're already walking 8 miles I think considering having 3 mths to train and the fab support here you can do it! WISH got me into this endurance stuff and then helped me walk my first 1/2 this past Aug. Now going for my first full in Jan.

I also need to drop more than a few pounds (we're not alone) and have arthritis in both knees and one hip. Totally do-able and actually has helped with management.

Put in the training, talk to everyone here and join us in March. It's going to be a great time!

I need some input from Disney race veterans. I'm hoping to do both the 5k and the 1/2. I'm thinking about flying in on Friday, arriving at 4pm, and then heading straight to packet pick-up which is open until 7pm. But I'm worried about what happens if my flight is delayed. If I don't make it to packet pick-up I'm guessing I won't be able to do the 5k? Maybe I should revise my weekend schedule to fly in on Thursday instead... What would you recommend?

I try to fly in a day prior especially since coming from Chicago where the weather can change on the hour. ;) Not sure if there is packet pick up the morning of the 5K but should be info on the website. I just prefer to not be that stressed and come in a day early.

hey i plan on flying in friday afternoon as well and heading straight for the packet pickup. i am also doing the 5k and 1/2 and i dont believe you can pick up anything the morning of the 5k at the race.
I plan on getting there friday evening, even if its right before 7pm and at least getting the 5k stuff!
fingers crossed for good weather so flights will be on time!!
