I don't really have anything interesting to say, but I haven't chimed in for a while. I am a lurkaholic - I can easily fall into just lurking on a thread.... Which I am not going to do this time! One reason for no longer lurking is that if everyone lurked there would be no thread to entertain me. AND the biggie is that I have done several Disney races, and I always see the super cool WISH group. I think about going over and introducing myself. Then I realize that I have only made a few posts on the tread I have read for months. I envision the following scenario.... "Hi, I'm trimom.... blank stares... the one who last posted anything about 3 months ago.... more blank stares.... Trimom slowly backs away"

Now I know that no one would actually give me a blank stare, but things play out like that in my head. So I am going to try to post more so that I when I do come introduce myself, you will at least have some idea of who I am.

Well there it is. I have committed to posting more AND to actually approaching the cool WISH group before the Princess 1/2

Hey Trimom! Nice to have you here! I'm loving that this thread is starting to take off as we get closer.

Belle was a choice. I picked her because she's a big reader. Also, if you'll remember, Belle didn't just lay around waiting on a dude to show up. She went out loooking for and saved her dad. She also rushed back and helped save the Beast. Belle's a doer. Why Pocahontis (sp?) wasn't a pick I don't know. Or Mulan for that matter.

Yep, that was why I chose Belle. She was the only one that I felt really took care of herself as far as the Princess choices that we had. She was willing to take her dad's place with the Beast as well.

Well, I made room reservations today. We will be there the 27th-9th. We will be at the Boardwalk from the 27th-4th and then move to Saratoga for the 4th-9th. I wanted to be close to DTD for part of the trip and this makes it easy for me for a DTD or a POR dinner meet on Saturday night!

ME, TOO! I just booked my stay at POFQ. :cool1:  :cool1: I may be traveling alone, and can be a bit shy. I would love to meet others in our group. I wanted to be near DTD and POR, as well.

Anyone else staying at POFQ?

Hi! I've entered the Princess 5K, and I'm a bit confused. Everyone keeps talking about what princess they picked...I'm a bit lost because I was not asked to pick anything like that. Let me know if I missed something.

Thanks!
Danielle

I don't remember being asked to choose a Princess for the 5K either. It was the Princess Half Marathon that asked about a Princess.

You pick a princess when registering for the Princes Half Marathon.

Can someone please explain the diet coke thing to me?????

I can't quite figure out HOW it is a diet buster. Things I do think that I know: (But these could be wrong as well)

1. Diet Coke has no calories so it can not affect the burn less calories than you take in equation of weight loss.

2. Diet Coke contains caffeine so it acts as a diuretic, which can affect your water weight, and leave you dehydrated

3. It may be possible that the sweet taste causes a small insulin reaction, but when your stomach figures out there is no sugars, you stop producing the insulin. Could that be enough to bust a diet?

4. Diet Coke may keep you from drinking enough water, which is important to weight loss.

So why would 4 or 5 cans of Diet Coke be bad (can you tell I have a HUGE Diet Coke addiction?) IF I am also drinking about 12 - 14 cups of water, and no coffee.

I have really tried to cut back to 2 cans per day, and I manage that most of the time - but due to a bizarre set of 2 yo induced circumstances, I got 1 1/2 hours of sleep last night - so it has been a total caffeine day.

Hi
I just have to chime in on this one. I am a graduate student in nutrition and have always had a campaign to help people break their soda addictions. My son's pre-K teacher quit after talking to me and lost 5 lbs her first week. No other diet or exercise changes except for that. I've know people to lose 10 lbs from just eliminating soda.

Now here is why. Even though, as you note, Diet Coke has zero calories. The body is not responding to "calories" it is responding to the "ingredients" that make up the soda. Just take a gander at the ingredient list, and then imagine if you had a shot glass of just one of those ingredients and you were told to drink it. You probably would not, but mixed all together and called Diet Coke, you will.

The body interprets the ingredients as a "poison" or at minimum as "toxic." When anyone ingests a toxic substance, the body responds by sending water to dilute what it interprets as poison/toxic in an effort to dilute the unhealthy substance. Some of the toxic ingredients the body attempts to eliminate through the excretion process, HOWEVER, what is not eliminated in the excretion process is sent to your fat cells and STORED there. Again, it's a self-protection mechanism. Guess what else the body sends into the fat cells? More water. It is still toxic, and it needs to be diluted.

Now, think about how much soda you have drunk over your life. If it's only once in awhile it's no big deal. But the people I know in my life who are soda drinkers are usually addicted to soda and it's an everyday thing.

The weight you lose is mostly water weight. But it's the water that is being released from your fat cells, and your releasing the old toxic substances as well. My son's teacher keeps thanking me for talking to her. She says she feels great.:thumbsup2

KJbrown - I agree with what you're saying about what "they" say. In your case, were you replacing 2 regular Cokes with 2 Diet Cokes? That would make a substantial difference regardless of what "they" say.

I myself usually only drink water, diet soda or crystal lite. Mostly water though.

Yes, I drink mostly water as well. I follow Weight Watchers, and strive to get in my 8 glasses per day, more if I run.

I did not replace regular coke with Diet coke, I've almost always had diet coke.

Toxic or not, with the exception of diet coke, I eat a very healthy diet. Not a lot of processed foods, mostly fruits and vegetables, whole grains, etc. If Diet Coke is my one vice, then I think I'm doing pretty good!

2boysmom - Thank you!:thumbsup2 I have always hated "just because" - I really like to know WHY. We are currently out of diet coke, so we will see if I can break the habit.

Now for a running related question: This is probably the strangest injury report that you get today. I have, as an adult, always had really bad callouses on my heels - they get so bad that occasionally they will crack open - ouch - but it is usually not in a place that affects my running. Well, thanks to Wii Fit - I have adjusted my balance, and now I have callouses on my heels and the balls of my feet. Well the callous on the ball of my foot crack open yesterday. I can barely hobble, there is no way that I can run on it. Any ideas for quickly repairing this callous and/or ways to prevent them in the future? I am hoping that the weight I will lose will help in that regard as well.

TriMom: Just wanted to say sorry about your injury. Sadly I don't have any helpful advise. I hope you feel better really soon!

I have to echo Lauren, i don't know what to say to help, but hope you get better!!

Sorry, just re-read my response, I didn't AT ALL mean to sound snarky to TwoBoysMom, if I did, I apologize!!!!!!

Didn't sound at all snarky.

:teacher: As mentioned previously by another poster, all sodas cause dehydration. Caffeine is involved in that process, but also now you know what else is going on to cause the dehydration. The excess water used to excrete the toxic substances and the extra water used to store in your fat cells.

Lesson over...:teacher:

I lost 10-15 pounds from making no other change other than giving up my regular pepsi. Unfortunately, I started drinking too much again and have gained it back. That is the one other thing I want to work on with my running - I want to replace my pepsi with water.

Ok guys, i don't drink soda.. so enlighten me about my serious addiction to coffee.. (and yes, i take it with 1/2 & 1/2 and sugar.) On a normal day, i probably drink 4 cups a day.. (uh, big cups.. ) ;)

*ok, prepping myself for the lecture* LOL :)

have you tried switching to tea? That seems to be enough caffiene for me. Except for the afternoons when I start falling asleep at my desk (like today).

Ewww.. if you see me drinking tea, i must be on my deathbed.. LOL I hate tea.
Hi, My name is Stacy, and i am a total coffee addict!
As someone else said, i don't drink (well, much anyway, lol) i don't smoke, i don't do drugs - Coffee is all i got!! LOL ;) PLLLEEEAAASE don't take it away!

I know i should cut back, and that is what i am trying to do.. well, at some point.. LOL

That is what I say about my Pepsi. It is a joke with my friends because I'm never without an open bottle of pepsi!

Hi Princesses!!!

Vicki!!! and anyone who would like to see too :) I posted a link to my photos from today's Expo at the Exp Everest 5K. I'm the one holding the Pal Mickey in the photo and with the actress who was pretending to be a reporter. Wendy is the other photo with 2 people and she's with her brother. And this is bad of me, I can't recall Wendy's ID, I've just become so used to her being Wendy that I don't remember it right now :rotfl:

If I end up carrying my camera tomorrow for the race I'll be sure to post photos again but it will probably be Sunday morning.

Hope everyone's training goes well this weekend!!!!

oh and Vicki... I am NOT carrying Miles for the race and going over hurdles. He can stay in the room watching tv ;)
