I believe the "official" WISH racing team shirt color is Bright Lime/Yellow color.

That is what the original WISH racing team came up with.

My name is Tiffany and my mom's name is Leora. No lime green here, but I was thinking of wearing a LGMH (lime green mickey head) pinned to my shirt or shorts for the race.

Yep, the safety yellow was chosen because at the time it was the closest we could find to the official DIS lime color (I have no idea how lime became the DIS color of choice)....anyway the color is easily visible from a very far distance and makes it easy to spot teammates all over the course. The Race Ready shirts are more of a true lime green and are also very easy to spot. You don't have to have or wear official WISH clothing to be part of the team, although it does make it easier for people to spot you on the course! Our scream teams cheer and encourage everyone, but a WISHer does get special attention.

Can someone please explain the diet coke thing to me?????

I can't quite figure out HOW it is a diet buster.

I "think" the problem is the chemicals in diet coke, something about how they mess with your metabolism, or something like that. I know I've read that diet soda makes it harder to lose weight somehow, maybe that's explains why I can't get rid of my excess baggage! I'm addicted to diet coke, but try to limit myself to three cans a day.

Anyway, welcome to all the lurkers, newbies, and everyone else! WISH is a pretty darn nice group of people, don't hesitate to jump in!

So, how is everyone's training going? Mine has been pretty sporadic, even though I train on a TM it is hard to be motivated when it is so hot and humid outside. I've already put my training schedule for the Disney half in January in a spreadsheet though, so I'll be on a definitie plan starting Oct 6th.

Hi Pat: :wave2: my DL 1/2 hotel friend!!
My "official" training for the WDW half started this week, but it start from the beginning and since I just finished the DL1/2 I have been keeping my 3 low mileage day to 4 miles instead of backing down to 3 miles. I am also doing Long distances like 6/7/8 and may do like a 6/8/10 until that meets up with my training schedule matches it.

Feelin good!!

Tracy

Welcome Kat and Tiffany!!! Glad you decided to de-lurk! LOL
Honestly, the WISH'ers are so great.. my expirence at the Minnie 5k just honestly wouldn't have been the same if i hadn't belonged to the WISH board - the friendships i developed and got to meet that day were just awesome, and the cheering, and seeing everyone else in their lime green was just TOO cool!!!
I felt bad my mom didn't have lime green, so i let her borrow my visor, but i think i am going to order her a WISH shirt for Christmas. :) (Even though she never posts here, she wouldn't know what to do on a message board.. LOL)
I am totally looking forward to the huge WISH presence at the back of the pack here - i am going to be relying on each and every one of you to help get me thru!

As for training, it's still slow going right now, i try to get out and do 3 miles (run/walk) 3x's a week, then do my Yoga class every Tuesday.. As soon as i get my new TM i will be starting my hard core training, (aiming for mid-october)

As for the Lime Green color, i am definately going to be in my Lime Green shirt (i have the old style safety lime-ish color) - i love that shirt - and i will probably have a tiara on. :) I am going to order those special mickey princess ears, but i don't think i will want to race in them (i hate having stuff like hats on when i run/walk).. I will probably save it for the P&P party later!

BTW - We should all try to meet up after at the P&P party too!! I can't wait to be there showing off my bling! LOL

Lauren, that would be SOO cool!!

I can't wait to go to the P&P party, last year when we were there for the Minnie 5k, the P&P party was the night before the race, being that it was my first race, i didn't want to stay out til midnight, so i let my MIL take my dd. While i sat over on the bench at the Grand Floridian watching the fireworks from the party at the MK.. Wishing i was there, but knowing i had to go to bed and get a good sleep..
This year i am soooo gonna party after this race!!!! I probably won't be able to move on Monday, lol.. but oh well, you don't need much energy to sit by the pool and drink anyway.. LOL ;) I'll catch up on my sleep on the plane on Monday night.

I am doing the half Marathon...but I am not a princess I am the QUEEN! :)

ha that cracked me up.... your majesty!

I'm having flashbacks to minnie and the overpasses so my plan is to try to be more hill prepared this time. Attempting to simulate hills on TM, know it's not the same, but blinkin hard work still!!! Lookin forward to the official course release then i'll be asking someone to plot my hills (by that i mean anything but flat running!!!!) for me :goodvibes

Ohhh so excited for all you guys starting plans for the jan 1/2

Oh... I was hoping for a flat course. It is Florida, right? Or does the Disney Magic include building hills? :rotfl: I don't do much of an incline workout on my TM--mostly working on speed. But, there is one route in the cemetary that is pretty hilly--13% grade in some places according to my Garmin, so hopefully I will be prepared.

I only remember the on and off ramps having hills, but nothing horrible, worst part was the angle of ramps, they tended to hurt my knees

I think that they are eliminating the really crappy out and back stretch of interstate looking road before you get to DHS. (Please Please Please - get rid of that part - it's hot, boring, and a real motivation zapper)

Christine - I have to know - what is the story behind the giraffe?

Can someone please explain the diet coke thing to me?????

I can't quite figure out HOW it is a diet buster. Things I do think that I know: (But these could be wrong as well)

1. Diet Coke has no calories so it can not affect the burn less calories than you take in equation of weight loss.

2. Diet Coke contains caffeine so it acts as a diuretic, which can affect your water weight, and leave you dehydrated

3. It may be possible that the sweet taste causes a small insulin reaction, but when your stomach figures out there is no sugars, you stop producing the insulin. Could that be enough to bust a diet?

4. Diet Coke may keep you from drinking enough water, which is important to weight loss.

So why would 4 or 5 cans of Diet Coke be bad (can you tell I have a HUGE Diet Coke addiction?) IF I am also drinking about 12 - 14 cups of water, and no coffee.

I have really tried to cut back to 2 cans per day, and I manage that most of the time - but due to a bizarre set of 2 yo induced circumstances, I got 1 1/2 hours of sleep last night - so it has been a total caffeine day.

I don't post much, so forgive me for intruding, but ...

I have read that "they" have done studies showing that your mouth tastes sweet, so revs up for sweet, then doesn't actually get calories, so your body demands more sweet. "They" have done other studies showing people who drink a lot of diet soda lose less weight than those who don't.

My personal study says I lost 40 pounds drinking at least 2 diet cokes a day. And I don't know if I could have done it without!

So, I say :thumbsup2 to Diet coke! :)

Mary Kathryn-- thanks for the info on the hills. Hopefully they are gone!

The giraffe in my avatar is just a pic I found in cyberspace. It is not my giraffe. My giraffe is a 6'2" wooden statue who was carved in Kenya. I had my eye on him for the longest time in a local shop. Everytime I went in I would say to the proprietor "Oh, he's still here!" And he would respond "Yes. He is waiting for you to take him home". I thought he was out of my reach financially. One day, I went in and he was standing there as always and I made an offer on him and 2 other pieces of art. Titus, the proprietor, also from Kenya, accepted my offer and the giraffe was finally mine. I was so excited about this that I posted on the CB back in the days when I posted on the CB. The tag-fairy picked up on it, and hence the tag.

I named the giraffe Titus, BTW. He stands proudly in my entryway hall.

KJbrown - I agree with what you're saying about what "they" say. In your case, were you replacing 2 regular Cokes with 2 Diet Cokes? That would make a substantial difference regardless of what "they" say.

I myself usually only drink water, diet soda or crystal lite. Mostly water though.

I know there are going to be slight hills, near the boardwalk area there are 2 slight inclines, and in Epcot there is a slight hill (although, i believe this will be more downhill..) Oh, wait, we will be coming in the back entrance to Epcot thru the boardwalk -- there is a small incline there too..
The problem is even though they are "slight" hills, by the time it's that part of the race they feel like MOUNTIANS!!
