ya just got the OK from DH, I am going.....yippeeee this will be my first solo trip to Disney.

OK, Ok, you princess freaks...... I just might sign up for this Half. I keep thinking I need a race to sign up for when the weather in Florida is still decent and before the hot time of summer training comes along.
I am SERIOUSLY thinking about it.
I usually take a trip around March because its my Birthday month (the 21st and I'll be 40!!). So it is a great possibility!!!...

Quote from the Race Website...
"The Disney Princesses are the inspiration for the weekend’s events and will focus on the attributes every princess possesses: commitment, courage, determination, fantasy, perseverance, and strength. Every woman is a princess, which princess are you?"
Seeing as how I don't really get into the whole princess thing and mainly a Mickey Mouse kinda girl. I will go with the Determination and perseverance Princess.

I'll keep you posted.

Tracy

Hockeychic: YEAH! What a good DH you have. :goodvibes I'm glad we'll be seeing you there.

Dsnyfan21: It's the perfect time of year, not too hot, not too cold. Hope you decide to join us!

As for me: My physical therapist asked me to run tonight on the TM to see how I do at therapy tomorrow.   He also said not to go crazy, just a nice little run. That'l progess from not moving off the sofa though. I'm very excited! :woohoo: :yay: :woohoo: Wish me luck!

Ok, add one more on the might really be doing this. (It is Kim's fault)
Also not a huge princess fan but can get behind the Determination and Courage Princess thinking.

I am in week 2 of my "official" training. Last week went well. I have decided on 3 days treadmill, 1 day outdoor walk 2 days Wii Fit and one day rest.

I was pleased with the outdoor walk. I bought a Garmin 405 and loved it. I kept my 4 mph pace for the entire 2 hours... but I was getting a bit tired towards the end. Hopefully I can increase my stamina so I can keep that pace for the entire marathon. Also considering adding some 1-2 minute running intervals like I do on the TM. Really hate running though...

I tried Cliff's Shot Bloks--pretty good. Better than GU. Loved the RaceReady shorts with the pockets on the outside.

Oh i'm so pleased. Was looking forward to meeting you in toronto, so now i'll see you in march! The have deferred my place to next year so i'll be there in 2009! How long will you be in disney for then?

OK, Ok, you princess freaks...... I just might sign up for this Half
Tracy what do you mean might? Sign up!!!! Now!!!!! It'd be great to see you again and you know you have all those attributes

della thanks for that information, i wondered where everyone was getting this from.

Lauren how did the TM go?

I'm debating upgrading my room. I'm currently booked for movies, but I would love to stay at Caribbean Beach. The only moderate I've ever stayed at was Riverside. I just don't know if I could justify the extra money.

My friend and I are staying CBR. I thought it would be nice to have a hot tub available after the marathon. Does that help? ;)

ooohhh! That makes it more tempting. DM and DSDad will probably be joining me. If DBF joins me, they will stay at a timeshare, if not, they will stay with me. Maybe I could convince them to stay there.

Hi Kate, sorry you won't make it to Toronto this year. I am so not ready and have hardly trained but I will get it done. The time limit on the 1/2 is 3 hours and 40 mins so I should be OK:scared1:

I believe I will only be in from the Thursday till the Monday.

I am going with a few friends from the boards and apparently we are staying at either SSR or OKW.

Can't wait!!!!

Okay, here's my report on the TM. I decided to do it this morning before work. I don't have to leave for work until 1:30 p.m., so it wasn't too, too early. I did my stretching before and after the TM. I did week three of the C25K plan, and let me tell you how out of shape I've gotten. *sign* Anywho, also took 800 miligrams of Advil before and elevated and iced the ankle afterwards. I was on the TM for a total of 30 mts. The final report is no swelling but some very slight tenderness. I'll be very interested to see how it feels tomorrow. I think I'll elevate and ice it again after work when I get home. I keep telling myself that a small victory is still a victory. On the very upside I've lost four pounds since the ankle injury. After my therapist said no TM and elevate every second you can, which basically means stay on the sofa with my foot in a dining room chair, I joined Weight Watchers. RunningMom's blog really helped me make the final choice. I need to improve my overall health, not just my ankle health after all. So   for the four pounds and I guess this for the tenderness  but this :yay: for TM-ing for 30 mts. Oh, and :grouphug: for all the encouragment.

lauren, that is awesome WTG on the 30 mins!!!!!!

I have a 1/2 at the end of Sept that I have hardly trained for but tonight we are going out for our long walk since we are having a party Sat night and will not be in the mood to walk that is for sure. So 20K on the agenda for tonight, just hope I can get it done without the shin splints I have been fighting lately. I don't think they are from increasing my milage to quickly as I get them from K 2 - 4 usually and only when we walk on the sidewalk??????

Have a awesome day all

Kim

That is a long walk!!! how long does that take you? Who do you walk with?

:sad2: :sad2: You'll need to take me off the list. Dang it, it's just not going to work out to go at that time period. I'll keep on training and try and work things out for the Jan. 2010 1/2 marathon.
I hope you all have a great time, I'll be thinking of you running throught WDW.

Hi all!!

Well, I fell off the training wagon in August due to a medical scare with my Lipitor and the fact that my thesis was nearing it's deadline and i had a TON to do.

The thesis has finally been submitted and fall teaching is underway, so I'm back now..or rather...I'm so far out of it that I'm having to start over. *sigh* I'm terrified that I will never make the pace for the race.

I hit the gym today for a mile on the TM... did it in just a hair under 20 minutes (I'm talking 19:58) :sad2: I don't see how I'll ever get up to speed. Oh well...I paid for the race, I have to make it work now.

Question for y'all...I'd like to do some road/track work as the TM makes my calves go like rocks after awhile. How do y'all figure out your 'speed' when doing roadwork? Do you use electronics for it? if so what? Anything under $100 is good (money is incredibly tight since Mr.Soup is still unemployed...with all the people who need therapy in this country...you'd think it would be easier for a Psych major to find work!!!).

2nd question... as I'm trying to lose weight too...would I be pushing it if I planned to walk 6 days a week (4 at the gym...at this point about a mile or 30 minutes whichever comes first) and a longer walk one day a week (3.14 mi....affectionately known as 'Pi Mile' at GaTech).?

Thanks gang!

I think walking 6 days a week is doable, just be sure to take at least one day off to let your legs rest.
I use a Garmin 205 to track my mileage (love it!), I think they have really come down in cost because new models have come out. Maybe a google search could come up with a 'doable' price. :goodvibes
Keep up the work and you will be amazed at how much you can accomplish.!

I think 6 days a week is doable with the mitles your talking about. You should def take a reast day. or do some other exercise on one of those walk days, like ride a bike, swimming or doing some walking in a pool.
I also use a Garmin. You may find one on ebay cheap, and the older models should be lower in price. If not, ue your car to figure out about a mile track from your house or a half mile from your house (for an out and back route). Or use a route creator and it will tell you about how far your route is and then use a watch to see how long it takes you to do it. Here is the link...

I hope this helps.

Sam sorry you won't be able to make it, hopefully something will work out.

40: It takes about 3 hours and I walk with DH who is also doing the full at Disney but not coming with me in March:rolleyes1

Alpha: I think 6 days a week is also doable. I don't use electrolytes so to speak, I actually use jelly bellys when doing long distances. Seem to work OK for me. Not a fan of gaterade or powerade. Welcome back to training

How was your walk, Hockeychic? Do you use standard Jelly Belly's or the ones specific for exercise? I tried something called Cliff Shot Bloks the other day and liked them. They are like a big gummy candy with sodium and potassium.
