I am a firehouse widow!!
I know what you mean. My DH seems to always be working. Between the FH and the classes he teaches he's never home. I keep telling my self he's helping to pay for the disney cruise we're going on next year. Then I'll have him all to myself. :cheer2:

Hang in there. find something you truly love to do for yourself or with the kids. It helps.

Good evening ladies - how is everyone?? Things are a little stressful here in our household. Stephanie my oldest has been giving her teacher at school a hard time and she's been misbehaving alot at home too. So....she's grounded all weekend and I'm hoping she will learn there are consequences for her bad choices.

DisneyDmbNut - I understand what you mean by being home alone alot. I am also. My DH has is an Engineer by day and a Fireman by night and weekends. There are days where I barely see him and I tease him that I am a single mother. Many people ask me how I stand it - I tell them that I can't possibly be mad at him for saving lives and people's property.

polly p - you are going on a Disney Cruise next year? How fun!!! We are going to go when BabyKate is 4yrs old, she is currently almost 2yrs old. I bet you can hardly wait for that vacation!!

I'm going to be on my way - I hope you all have a good night and great tomorrow!! Talk to you soon!!

My DH works a ton of overtime, and between that, the classes he teaches, the classes he takes, the second job he has as a paramedic in another town, volunteering to help this guy move, and that guy build a fence....and the bagpipe lessons (he's in a firefighters pipes and drum corp), he's hardly ever home. It's the biggest and most frequent thing we fight about. Sometimes I feel like I'm a single mom! I think that's why I'm so overwhelmed with the kids, because he's usually not home to share some of the burden. I keep telling myself that at least he'll be able to retire at a young age and then we'll have all the time in the world for each other, but I sometimes feel like our kids are paying the price of it all. Oh well, just a vent. I'll get over it!

Hello ChrisnSteph - you can come here and vent anytime, we are a close group of girls on this thread!!

My deepest symphaties for the passing of both of your sons. May the angels hug them and kiss them everyday in heaven.

What about fireman sons? ;) :rolleyes1

My dad is the fire chief of my fire department's hometown. I just thought I'd stop in and say hello!

Kuzco - you are absolutly welcome here. When I made this thread I didn't even think about fireman parents, children, friends, or anyone else that is close with a fireman.

Is your dad full time or volunteer? You'll need to tell us about him and what's it's like being the son of a fireman.

wELL...12 more hours till DH leaves for "Bomb Class 101"...he came home this morning from shift..can't believe I only get him for 24 hours then he is gone!

I'm sorry your DH has to go so soon. I hope he won't have to be gone to long.

Hi girls Sorry I have not checked in .
I know what you mean about the whole firehouse widow thing .

Our dept. just finished with some FEMA course and mine was working almost everyday between his shifts . People really think that when I say he worls 24 on and 48 off that he is really home for the 48 hours LOL

He rest the 1st day and plays golf and then the 2nd day he helps me . But most of the time he is picking up extra shifts because the money is so good if you work over . We have our son going to college next year and i dont look for my Ex husaband to pay anything for it . I really have a great DH he is so willing to do whatever it takes for my kids from my 1st marriage.

Hey I got a new car !!!!!! Yeah for me I love it I did buy the Mercedes Kompressor that I was wanting ...

OK I better go and wash the bag of uniforms stinky ol things ! They always smell like sweat and beef jerky after a fire.

Mad4Mickey - Congratulations on the new car. Don't you just love that new car smell!!!

It really sounds like you have a great DH. My Dad is really my Stepdad and he has always treated me like his own daughter. My biological father is out of the picture, I haven't talked to him for 6 1/2 years and he doesn't even know that BabyKate exists. It's wonderful that your DH is so great with your children.

I know what you are saying about the stinky uniforms - since my DH is volunteer we just have stinky clothes. Sometimes I don't find his clothes until they are at the bottom of the hamper for several days - Nasty!!

Talk to you later!!

He is full-time. I think he started on the department when he was 22 or 23 and then worked his way up through the department. The department covers a city of approximately 35,000 citizens. He is also the county's emergency management director, which was "built-into" the city's fire chief position several years ago.

Overall, it was great growing up a fireman's son, especially during the time periods when he'd work 24-on/48-off. I was lucky because I was one of the few kids that got to spend a lot of time with their dad. I do remember some times when I'd be sad/scared when he'd be gone all night, though.

It is weird though - so many little boys want to grow up to be firemen. I never did. I always wondered if it was because my dad was a fireman...no clue! :) :firefight

I also just noticed that you are in northwest Indiana! I'm going to school in your neck of the woods!

Thanks SLO I do love that new car smell !
I must admit I am a little freaked out when i am driving it though . I really dont like people driving to close to me . Maybe cause when i had the cruiser I got hit from behind by a lady who had almost no insurance and it cost me so much . I really dont wanna have to fix Guido if someone hits him .

Welcome KUZCO :teeth:

Thanks for sharing this about your dad. He sounds like he is a very important man in your city. You must be very proud of him!!

If you don't mind me asking - where are you going to school???

I've never had anyone hit me from behind - but I'm always nervous when I'm driving a new care too. "Guido" :scratchin - is that the name of your car???

Wow, you are going to school close to me. Valpo is a great University! I've met many people that have gone to school there and they have always said good things about the school.

What kind of law are you studying?

Yup Guido is the name of the car . Yeah I know he is German but I am Italian and he looks like a sleek Mafia car so hence his name .LOL

A Law student among us that is good in case we get into trouble ..........;)

We are small in numbers but we are a mighty group Kuzco

I started another thread on this, it was suggested I mention it here. My dh and I are adopting a little boy, and it will be final on Friday, May 13th! We are very excited that he will legally be our son. He's cute as a bug, I'll make sure to post some pics from the big day!

My feelings about the place are up and down...but that's a long story! :-)

I'm not studying a particular type of law. There are concentrations, but I don't want to pigeon-hole myself...and the classes are offered in such a way that it is almost impossible to sequence your classes properly. Mostly, I'll just see where/if I can get a job, although I do have a leaning toward employment law issues.
