Calling all Fireman wives!!!

Good Morning ladies! I wish I had some really impressive story for why I haven't been posting! The truth is, I have been lazy! I have been staying in bed a little longer!

Weigh in for the BIggest Loser was yesterday. I am in the lead for most pounds lost, but James is leading in percentage lost!! SO, if nobody suprises us then James will be the big winner!!! He will get to keep all the money from the entry fees. He is very excited!!

Kathy - so glad you are feeling better. I hope you get a good nap after Wal Mart! I always feel I need a nap after a trip there!

Sandy - congrats on no cavities!! Don't worry about the orthodontist! Sarah got her first appliances around 9 yo and Emily started then, too. James has been and he probably needs stuff, too. However, I have a "only one kid in braces at a time" clause in my mom contract. Our orthodontist is conservative, though. He does spacing appliances until all their molars and such come in, so we don't usually see braces until high school.

So what are everyone's big weekend plans? We will have baseball games. Jim has a holiday Saturday, so he will be home all weekend. It's also a big birthday weekend - Mom on Saturday and Jim on Sunday. Emily's will be twelve on Wednesday. I am going to take her to the Clinique counter at the mall so she can get tips on eyeshadow, liner, etc... Her birthday gift will be some make-up. I am make-up impaired and her coloring is very different from mine, so off to the profesionals we go! She is going to have a slumber party on the 6th. I let her invite 25 girls - should be interesting! They won't all come, but it will be crazy! We are going to make our own cupcakes. We bought the cutest triangular cup cake cups! Sarah will be home for Easter and I am off that day so cupcakes will be our project! Sarah has declared that she will not be participating in the party, though! She is going out!

Sorry for the long post! I guess I actually need to go get dressed for work!

So nice to see you. I can TOTALLY understand not posting and instead staying in bed a little longer. I went back to bed yesterday and ended up sleeping until 2:15! I must've needed the extra rest. I should be going back to work on 4/11 so I'm sure I probably won't be posting as much after that, but I'll try.

I cannot believe you invited 25 girls for a slumber party! :scared1:  :scared: :faint: You are a brave soul!!! Even if only half of them show up!!!

Congratulations to both you and James for your weight loss! I have lost 15 pounds since getting sick and I am trying so hard to keep it off. But, naturally, since I've been feeling better my apetite is returning! I highly recommend Weight Watchers, some other program or just plain will power over the way that I lost it! :rotfl:

It sounds like you have a full weekend, as usual. My big weekend plans are just to get a little cleaning done around the house. Allen kept up with the regular stuff like dishes, laundry and such, while I was sick but now the bigger stuff is catching up. So I need to start doing a little at a time before it really snowballs!

Have a great Friday and a great weekend!

We had a nice afternoon yesterday.
The girls loved the Easter Bunny as normal :goodvibes
But the Easter Bunny was very boring, not very interactive. A statue would have been just as good, and no one would have known:rolleyes: Oh well, the girls were happy and that's all that mattered.

Today I am meeting some Chicago DIS friends at the movie theater to see Meet the Robinsons - it'll be fun!!!! I'll give you all a review of the movie tomorrow!!!

Kathy - I hope Wal-Mart didn't take to much out of you. That place can be brutal!!! :faint: I'm not a big fan of Wal-Mart, but I do like their prices. Whenever I leave there I'm tired.

Karen - Congrats on the weight-loss :cheer2:
**Yikes - 25 girls possibly at once :scared1: You are the best mom ever!!!!! I dont' think I could do it

Well, I'm off to make some breakfast
Maybe some french toast sticks :scratchin

Have a good day today!!

Sandy - Have fun today with the other Chicago dissers! That's so neat.

Walmart was brutal, but even worse was the grocery store. I don't know what possessed me to go to town on a Friday afternoon!?!? :confused3 :sad2: We usually avoid town on Fridays and Saturdays. I did pick Andrew up from school before I attempted the grocery store and he was a big help.

I plan to clean and do laundry today. How exciting, huh! That and I still have a ton of thank you notes to write for all of our friends that brought in meals when I was in the hospital and when I got home.

I'd head off to make breakfast like you Sandy but no one is up yet! :rotfl: I let the boys stay up as late as they wanted playing video games last night. I know A.J. went to bed around 10 and Matthew gave in at 11 but I'm not sure when Andrew went to bed. Allen didn't get home from work until 5 a.m. so I don't expect him up any time soon. Once the boys do get up we're having french toast and sausage. I got some texas toast at the store yesterday to make french toast so that's what we're having.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!! :cool1:

Hi Firewives!

Sandy, have fun at the meet. I bet it will be a blast!

Karen, way to go on the weight loss. Keep up the awesome work!

My weekend is not going to be exciting. The girls had a buddy over for a sleepover last night. Today we are cleaning the house and then shoe shopping. The kids want Crocs. I have yet to take the Croc plunge but they are determined. ;) Sunday DH will finally be home so hopefully it will be warm enough to BBQ or we'll go out to dinner. He does have to help my FIL with some tile first.

I have been wanting to ask this: do any of your firefighters have 2nd jobs? It seems like everyone at DH's station does. Not sure if Utah just pays poorly or if it's all the free time. Just wondering about ff in other areas?

Have a fabulous weekend!

Hi Jenny!

Technically, I can't answer your question since DH and I are both just volunteer firefighters. However, DH is a full-time sheriff's deputy and I know that he and most of the other deputies do have second jobs. DH does off-duty work to supplement his income and that is the only way we survive. And the main city that is in our county has a regular fire department with paid firefighters and I know that most of them work 2nd jobs. Law enforcement, firefighters and ems are paid low in this area.

To give you an idea of the low pay for our area...DH started his law enforcement career in FL in 1980. We moved to NC in 1990 and he started working for the sheriff's office here. In 2005, after 15 years in NC and after 25 years total in law enforcement he was finally making what he had started out making in 1980 in FL. Can you believe that?

Are the kids set on "real" crocs?? I have generic crocs from Walmart. They're only about $8 a pair and they're so comfortable. I wear them to work all the time. And they have all the fun colors!

Have fun cleaning. That's what I plan to do today too!

Thanks, that does help! It seems like the closer you get to society's issues the less you get paid. Same goes for Social Work and the like in this area. It's a shame really. They risk their lives daily and the monetary compensation is mind boggling. DH works as flight paramedic to subsidize. I always ask him if maybe he wants a 3rd dangerous job? ;)

Does your city have full time dept. or volunteer only?

I don't think the kids even know the difference between real or fake Crocs. $8 sounds wonderful to me! :woohoo: The girls want the gems for them too. Any idea where to get those?

The amount of money that these people make is a shame. They risk their lives every day and the compensation is ridiculous. I work in retail and our manager makes double what DH makes! Even my manager says it's ridiculous!

Our county doesn't have any full-time paid firefighters but the one main city in the county does. We're country bumpkins and live out in the country so we're all volunteer out here. But the full-time dept. doesn't pay well, either. Your DH sounds like mine - As if being a sheriff's deputy isn't dangerous enough, let's volunteer as a firefighter too! :lmao: Of course, after he started and I saw what it's all about that's when I decided to join.

Good luck with finding the gems. I've never seen them. But I'd try Walmart first. Maybe in the jewelry department if not in the shoe department. I hope they have the crocs there for you!

I agree, the compensation is not nearly adequate. Fortunately it wasn't a big surprise either. I don't think anyone goes into the police/fire field thinking they are going to get rich. DH has been on 12 years and is a Captain/paramedic. He does love his job. People always ask if I am scared he will get hurt and I always reply: I would rather have him for a short while happy then forever miserable.

DH's dept. has 2 female firefighters. Are you the only female or are there more?

Oh and we found the Crocs. Of course kid sizes 5-10 toddler Airwalk's ($9) got pulled for some obscure reason so I had to buy DS (5) real Crocs for the bargain price of $24.99. :scared1: I got DD's (8) online for $14 with free shipping. Of course she wanted another pair but saw the Sketcher version ($30) that came with 4 charmy things. Thanksfully DD (10) is completely uninterested but did see a pair of Steve Madden's that she wanted. She got them. We went by the bank after so she could reimburse me. :faint:

Yesterday was alot of fun for both kids and adults. :cool1:
We've seen each other now many times, and the kids are becoming great friends, and so are the adults:goodvibes . I wish we lived close together so you all could join us. You would enjoy these DISers alot, and I would enjoy being able to see you guys.

Meet the Robinsons was good. I can't say I loved it, but I did enjoy it:thumbsup2 . The characters weren't warm and fuzzy, and I like warm and fuzzy characters. The story was good though, but a little complex. I doubt that Katie understood what was going on:rolleyes: .

Jenny - My DH is a volunteer fireman in our town, because that's all we have. I'll have to ask him what full time fireman make in the city and let you know.

Kathy - How are you feeling today? Are you going back to work soon?

Well, I gotta run and get ready for church.
Have a good day today

Jenny - my DH works a tone of overtime & also has a yard service. Pretty much all the guys here work a second job. The pay is terrible, but what's new!! I think every professional, overpaid athlete or performer should have to chip in extra!! But such is life and he loves his job!!! We do have quite a fewl women on the department.
Our Shoe Station carries the Jibbitz brand for Crocs (they have every design including Disney) Jibbitz also has a website. I think it is Jibbitz.com
We love our Crocs!!

Kathy - I am glad you survived all of your shopping! Take it easy and take care of yourself!

Sandy - I am glad you had a good meet! We will probably see that on DVD. We went to a sneak preview of Blades of Glory on Thursday. It was OK - the humor is pretty crude.

James team won on Saturday and we play again on Monday at 8 pm. I hate the late games! Emily will be doing extra practices to get ready for our next competition. We compete in Destin, FL the 14th - 15th and then in Panama City Beach the next weekend. I can't go to the PCB one because of work, but I will go to Destin. Lots of beach time! The kids enjoy it. Sarah is going to go to the Destin competition with me & Emily. I think she is bringing her boyfriend Billy. He is a good kid. The kids have Spring Break the week in between the two competitions.

Have a great week everyone!!

Yesterday was a big Disney TV Day.
We watched a ton of the travel channel which was all about Disney
Then at 7 on USA was Pirates of the Carribean
It was a great TV day!!! :teeth:

Karen - Congrats to James for his win:cheer2: and good luck for his game tonight :wizard:

Well, I gotta run and get ready for work - I got 4 days left.

Have a good day today!!!

sandy - wow! Just 4 days left! That's close! We watched Pirates last night, too! I think it's funny - we have it on DVD, but there is just something about it being on TV! The 3rd movie comes out in May! WooHoo pirate:

I finished Emily's invitations and she took them to school today. She is pretty pumped. Her birthday is Wednesday. Her gift from me & Jim will be a trip to the Clinique counter - we are going to wait until next week for Bonus time so she gets free stuff too. I can't believe she's 12! I just look at my kids and feel like I went to bed and woke up and now they're all big! It makes me a little sad!

Sarah will be home Thursday. She is going to help me bake the cupcakes for Em's party. She will be home until Sunday afternoon. I'm ready for a good visit.

Happy Monday everyone!

Good Morning all. Happy Monday. It's funny how I don't dread Mondays quite as much since I'm off work. ;)

Sandy - Your countdown is really getting close. When is your last day? I wish I had known Disney was on the travel channel yesterday. I would have curled up on the couch and watched some of it. I think we'll wait until "Meet the Robinsons" comes to pay-per-view or DVD. The commercials just don't thrill me that much.

Karen - Glad James' team won. Good luck tonight. I hate those late games, too, especially on school nights. The kids may not have to go to bed early on school nights but I do! ;)

I'm so glad that Sarah's coming up to help with the cupcakes. (I wish our DD came home as much as Sarah does or came home to do family stuff with her brothers. She just never has been that way.)

Today a friend of mine is taking me out for lunch. We're going to Red Lobster, which is in Johnson City (TN). It's about an hour from here. I have been dying for lobster and they are having their annual Lobsterfest. I had a very light breakfast so I'll have plenty of room. If I'm up to it after lunch we're going to go to Michaels craft store and a new scrapbooking store. She is really into the scrapbooking.

Have a great day all!

Good Morning Everyone! Happy Tuesday!

My lunch yesterday was wonderful. I had a lobster platter that had a rock lobster tail, a maine lobster tail and shrimp and lobster fettucini! It was soooo good. My friend had a platter with a rock lobster tail, garlic shrimp scampi and snow crab legs.

After lunch we did a little shopping at a new scrapbook store and at Michaels craft store. Then we went to Atlanta Bread Company for dessert. No calories yesterday! :lmao:

Sandy - are you now down to the three day mark?

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Lots and lots to do today, and it's suppossed to rain :umbrella: I hate being in the rain. But at least I will be alone (because Kate is in daycare today) so I don't have to mess with getting her in and out of a car seat. My main mission today, between errands and physical therapy, is buying Easter basket items. I am so behind!!!! This is normally way done by now

We have such cold temps coming (the 30's and 40's for highs) :cold:
When I bought Stephanie's sleevless Easter dress, I knew there was a possibility of it being chilly, but not like winter :cold: Katie's dress is almost identical to Stephanie's, but it came with a cute little jacket made out of the same material (something you see on toddler dresses). Thank goodness Stephanie has a white sweater that she can wear in church on Easter Sunday

Karen - Your idea of taking Emily to Clinque for make-up and application lesson is exactly what I'm going to do too for my girls ::yes:: I can't stand it when girls are wearing their make-up wrong, and then they look like little street-walkers (aka Bratz Doll) :scared:

Kathy - I'm glad you had a nice lunch with your friend:goodvibes
**I am down to the 3 day mark, and my last day is April 12th - that's just around the corner :guilty: :) (2 smilies for that one)

Well, I better go get ready for my day.
I guess I won't do to much with my hair since it's going to get rained on anyway.
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Good morning everyone!

Kathy - your lunch sounds yummy!

Sandy - I hate bad makeup - mostly I have to take her somewhere because I don't really wear it!! Her coloring is so different from mine that I want help with eyeshadow, etc... I just finished up most of my Easter shopping yesterday, so you are not alone!

It is so cold and windy here - it's only going to be a high of 38 today :cold:
I wish I could stay in, but Katie and I have many things to do today.

I must go get Steph going for school:teacher:
Have a good day today!!!

Last night we had dinner at Olive Garden - I love that place!!!! :goodvibes We had a lot of errands to do, and we decided to go out to eat (we've actually been doing that alot lately, because we've been doing a lot of night time errands)

Today I go to work - 3 days left
I keep looking around there trying not forget anything. After 19 years I've left many things lying around. But I think I have everything :thumbsup2

Well, I guess I should go get ready for work
Have a good day today everyone!!

slo - I guess after being there so long, you would have a lot of stuff! You are getting awfully close to the last day!

Sarah will be home today for the Easter weekend! She and I will be busy tomorrow getting ready for Em's party!
