We're eating at Rainforest Cafe at AK in March for lunch. I'm looking at the menu and I've recently developed an interest in crab cakes. :cool1: Has anyone had the Cyclone Crab Cakes there? It says they are broiled... is this how crab cakes are normally prepared? Will they taste as good as the fried crab cakes? I know they are healthier, and that's great, but I love the taste of the fried ones.

And for the ones at RFC, is it reasonable to pay $22 for two? I know prices are higher at Disney, so taking that out of the equation, would I expect them to be the size of an appetizer crab cake or larger?

What a strange question, I know, but I like to be prepared!

Thanks.

I LOVE the RFC crab cake sandwich. I actually go to FC anywhere I can to get one! YUMMY!
It is a litle cheaper than the 2 also. I think they recently took the Sandwich off the menu but they were more than happy to make it for me in May!

I too love the fried crab cakes, like the ones you get at cheep buffets. I love the ones at rfc and can not wait to have another one. I was not sure about them the first time, so I added one to my husbands meal for $9 I think ( this was a few years ago) and just ordered me a salad. It was huge and made for a meal. Filled me up like a grilled chicken breast and about the same size. It did not have a fishy taste, had celery and the sauce was great. It was not like stuffing but hunks of crab meat, really really good !!!!http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=20784110&postcount=7766 I hope I just added a pix of the sandwich, gives you an idea of what one looks like.

Well--the ones you are going to get at RFC probably won't resemble a genuine Maryland crabcake. And those are almost never fried!!!

I am an expert on Maryland crab cakes. I own and run my own crab processing plant on the eastern shore of MD. We deliver our crab meat to restaurants and stores and markets all over the state.

The traditional Maryland crab cake was almost always fried, up until a few years ago. Now it's almost always broiled. Healthy eating and all that. But let me assure you, a broiled crab cake tastes wonderful as well. Sometimes (depends who's doing the cooking), it's better!!

I love crab cakes too. I live on the east coast and know a good crab cake. Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom has an awesome crab cake. You have to go for lunch though. (11-3:00). They serve buffet style at night. It is listed under the appetizer on the lunch menu. I make sure I go there eveytime we visit. If you are going to the Magic Kingdom in March, check it out.

we were recently at disney and had crabcakes at liberty tree, narcoosees, captain jacks and RFC - the best were at narcoosees!

Having worked at RFC as a Safari Guide (server) at a location other than Disney, this is what I remember: landrys has a constant source of fresh seafood delivered to their restaurants daily, so don't worry about frozen/outdated stuff. The crabcakes at RFC are broiled "maryland style" and are made of lump crab meat (high quality). Personally, I really enjoy them. Some people prefer the fried crabcakes which are fine, but to me the breading etc detract from the taste. When eating at RFC I think the best appy/add on you could choose would the the crabcakes. Landry's really does have decent if not good quality seafood, so it's always a safe bet.

I had the crabcake sandwich on Monday at RFC. It was okay. The cake kept falling apart, so I ended up eating it with a fork and skipping the bun.

I've eaten Ruby Tuesday's crab cake sandwich and love it, so I was hoping for something similar in taste and texture, so I was a little disappointed.

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't order the crab cake sandwich - I was asking specifically about the crab cakes themselves not in sandwich form. But thanks regardless!

I haven't decided what I'll do, but I appreciate all the feedback - especially from those "in the know"!

Here's my favorite crab cake dish at WDW, YCG for b'fast..........

Crab Cake Benedict - fried crab cakes on grilled tomatoes, topped with two poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, served with breakfast potatoes.

Now that makes me hungry! I'll have to try that on my next trip.

We recently had lunch with friends at RFC..they had the crab cakes and said they were delicious. We didn't try them.

We do however, love the crab cakes at Flying Fish...they are fantastic.

Kona cafe at the poly has a good crab cake as well. I agree Broiled are great as well, had some fantastic broiled crab cakes in Va. Beach at a place called Blue Petes. Also some good fried at Abbey rd.
