Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi friends!!

I hope you are all coping with the heat we've had :sunny:

We are still super busy with softball.
Normal season is over, and we are deep into All Stars :)
Our first tournament is this weekend, and I am super excitd!!!!:cool1:
It's fun working with girls that really want to be there, and learn how to play better softball :thumbsup2

Who's all reading or read the 50 Shades series?
I'm reading it now, and I gotta say, I didn't love how it started, but I'm loving how it's ending :thumbsup2
Book 1 was just okay, and then book 2 started and it sucked me in (I've had a hard time putting it down). Then I started book 3 yesterday and finished 1/2 of it already. I'll be down with it by the end of the week, and then I'll be sad (that's how I was with twilight). You get to know these characters, and then it's over:(
I do recommend this series, but it will make you

I gotta go water my :flower:
Have a great day today!!!

50 shades is a new one for me.

with your busy schedule, how do you get the time to read slo?

how is your store doing this summer?

if i lived closer, i would come in and buy lots of stuff.

hope all are doing fine, all ok with me in my part of the world.

I really LOVE to read, so I make myself find time.
Summer and Christmas break is my best reading time, because all my TV shows are reruns (I only watch tv at 9pm) so I read then, and when I go to bed. Many times I think I could be doing something else around the house, but this is my downtime, and I really need it, or I won't sleep well at night.

With all the reading I do, I'm also becoming a pretty fast reader.
I started Twilight (again) on Monday night, and as of last night, I'm already 60% done with it (I LOVE Twilight - so much!!!)

I really need to read books 2 & 3 of The Hunger Games, but I didn't love it as much as others. I figured I'll read the other 2 books before the movies come out.

Store is still really slow - thanks for asking
I pray every day to get me through another month, but I don't know how much longer I can do this. I have a feeling that as soon as Katie can come home to an empty house after school is when I'll be closing and getting a job where I can actually make some $$.

I'm glad things are good with you Mac

Have a good day today everyone!!

sometime soon, your store will take off and make $$ for you.

i know we talked about online sales at one time.
have you been able to explore that any more?

i really think you should have a big weekend party and invite all the homies in this thread to come to your house............and part of the party will be held at your store with you at the cash register.....

we could camp out in tents in your back yard so we would have a lot of money to spend in your store.

i need to spend some time here and go back and read which homies will be at the motherland this fall.

hope everyone has a great day!

Morning all!!!:wave2:
Slo, glad you are having a good summer. I'll bet your pool is warm. We joined an Aqua Center near our house and temps in the adult only pool (which is usually the coldest) were up to 89 degrees last week. Nothing worse than jumping in to cool off and find it's like bath water.:crazy2:

Mac, we need to make a plan to meet up if you are still at WDW this fall. I will be there with another mom for Food and Wine and Halloween Party. Staying at CBR Sept.29th-Oct 4th! So let's make a date, shall we?!::yes::

rmom, Rose, geffric, Crissup, Bunchkin, Deb, and everyone else have a beautiful day and try to keep cool!

Oh, and my photos from our last trip are on my Facebook page. If anyone would like to see them, just PM me here and I will share them with you if you are on Facebook. I keep thinking about doing a trip report, but Photobucket and I are not the best of friends. :lmao: It takes so long to do that and it seems I am always on the run.

Happy Friday everyone!!!:cool1:

I have 2 or 3 more days of All Stars softball, and then we have a 2 week break before Fall Ball starts. I'm going to sorta enjoy the break, but then again, I don't know what I'm going to do with myself :confused3

Think of us this weekend, and send good vibes our way so our girls do great at their last tournament :wizard:

Have a great weekend!!!!

all i can think about is school starts less than a month from now.
i'll be back to work and i just started my summer fun............

hope all the chicagoland homies have a great weekend!

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!!!

I don't know why I get excited about Friday - it's really like any other day for me cause I work tomorrow.

Speaking of work - with a very heavy heart I have decided to close my store :sad1::sad::sad1: As sad as this makes me, I'm releaved that I can say I'm not "going out of business". I'm just walking away, because it's time to walk away before I have to say "I'm going out of business". I always promised myself that I would not take money out of our personal funds to sustain the business, and the time has come that this will happen soon. So, I'm doing the responsible thing, and walking away.

My family, and the girls don't know about this, so facebook friends, please don't say anything on facebook - I want to be the one to tell my family - thanks!!!! I'm not telling them until after the girls bday party on 8/4 because I don't want this to be the topic of conversation at their party. This news is going to make them very sad, especially Katie, and I don't want this putting a grey cloud over their happy day.

After I tell my family, I'm going to call my good customers personally, and tell them what is happening, and that I'm taking last minute orders until 9/22. I will complete orders until 9/30, and then shut my doors to the public on 10/1. At that time, we will concentrate on removing everything from the store, and be out of the until by 10/30. This will be a stressful time, because I'm also going to be looking for a job at the same time. So please send some good thoughts and vibes my way to find a job really soon.

So, that's everything that's happening by me.

I hope you all have a good weekend!!!

slo, i'm sending you lots of {{{hugs}}}........

i know this is a trying time for you as the store was a big part of your life.

You will find something else after you close up shop.

i bet life will turn around and you'll find employment in something that you enjoy and will fullfill you.

another part of life will be opening up for you later this year.

you're numero uno on my prayer list right now.
you have just replaced the rain request.....;)

not many weekends left before school begins.
(we return 3rd wk of august)
enjoy this one with the girls and family.

SLO - What Mac said..:thumbsup2

But I am truely sorry that things didnt work out as you planned, but remember that when God closes a window, he opens a door..( or something like that) If I can help in anyway, let me know.

My Update-

Went to my nephew's wedding in Barcelona, loved the city and the wedding was beautiful. Then , since I was already there ;), got on a 12 day Med cruise.. it was a Trip of a Lifetime - went Florance, Rome, Amafi Coast, Sorrento, Pompai, Venice, Sicily..increadible..

Eric took care of the cat and worked..Geoff is in Des Moines and working. I have foot surgery on Monday..the pins in my foot popped..

Slo, I will send lots of good thoughts and prayers your way. So sorry to hear this news. Wishing you all the best of luck in your job search.

Hi all-

Slo- so sorry to hear about you closing your store. Praying things work out for you with your job hunt!

My dad had closed his tailoring shop about 3 yrs ago, due to business wasn't doing well/ lack of customers. He had his business for 7 years. His business was hopping for awhile, and then it decreased alot, due to the economy. It unfortunately happens.

Geffric- Sounds like you had a great time in Spain and the mediteranian(spelling) cruise! Praying for your foot surgery on Monday.

Hi to everyone else!

My kids keep me busy! Chrissy has been sick with a cough/ cold thing going around lately.
Matthew starts marching band camp in 2 weeks, at his high school.

I am also on Facebook quite a bit, so not on Disboards as much as I used to.

Forgot to mention, I forgot to put on my previous post, Geffric would be familiar with this. Matthew made his OA Ordeal! Matthew and Don( my DH) went up to Napowan last weekend and Matthew did his Order of the Arrow Ordeal! He passed with flying colors! Matthew really wanted to do this, we never pushed him to do the Ordeal. He was ready to do the work. So proud of Matthew!

He also made Life Scout recently as well!
Haven't thought much about it, but I guess think about Eagle next...
Wanted to share!

Evening all - hope you are enjoying the nice weekend.
Mac, sent you a PM to see about our WDW DisMeet. Hope something works out for us.

Hi gang!!! :wave2:

As some of you know, I finally made it official on facebook about the store closing - it was extremely hard to do:sad1:. I'm becoming more and more at peace with the decision everyday, which makes it easier for me to talk about with people. If I would have made it official a couple of weeks ago, I wouldn't have been able to discuss this with people without me crying:sad1:. But now that it's official, I'm very anxious to get this process over with, and continue on with life. The stores facebook page is www.facebook.com/theperfectangle.qualitypictureframing if you would like to go on and see what type of stuff I'm selling. I need to get rid of all that stuff because I DO NOT want to take it home with me. So if you want it, or know someone else that may want it, please let me know. It's basically all 50% off.:thumbsup2

I also finally told the girls, and they reacted exactly as I expected them too. Stephanie (14) cried, but cried for me:sad1:. She is sad to see it go, but is also glad to see me be home on Saturdays to watch her soccer games. Katie (9) sobbed:sad:, like I told her someone died - this I really new would happen. She has always dreamed of working at the store, and would always put on school papers that she wanted to be a picture framer like her mom when she grows up:goodvibes. Telling her this news was like stomping on her dream:sad1:. She would also tell me, "Mommy, I'm going to work at the store when I grow up so you can rest.:goodvibes" After she cried and cried, Kevin said to me, "that was very difficult to watch.:guilty:" and it was. I just hugged her and hugged her, and promised her that before we close, I will teach her to do a picture frame from start to finish (I've already started teaching her how to cute mats) and that will be a memento from the store. She was happy with that:). She's still very sad, and dwells on this often, but because I NEVER act sad around her, she soon gets out of her saddness as quickly as she gets in (if it's one thing working retail has done for me over the last 25 years is teach me how to never wear my emotions on my sleeve. I'm very good at feeling one thing, and showing another feeling. This is why my customers were shocked about me closing, because NEVER did I make it seem like I was suffering economically and emotionally cause I couldn't be with my kids as much). So the kids are doing okay - taking it day by day:upsidedow.

Since making it official, I've had customers calling me, and coming in stunned about me closing:eek:. My poor needleworks are at home trying to get as much done as possible, so I can frame their items before I leave. Many other customers are frantically trying to find time to come in, so they can get things framed that they've been meaning to do. It really warms my heart how so many people are upset about me leaving, and that I've touched their lives in positive ways:goodvibes. Many of these customers are even friending me on facebook so I can keep in touch with them after the store closes - it's so nice!!!!:goodvibes:

Tomorrow I go on a job interview somewhere I really want to work. My Chiropractor is looking for an office manager, and he's interested in having me work for him. I really like him alot, and I can truly see us working well together:). I'm hoping tomorrow goes well, so I can start working for him part-time while still working at my store, and then getting everything moved out of the store (it will be crazy busy for awhile, but that's okay, I handle crazy pretty well). Please send some pixie dust my way, for a successful interview tomorrow - thanks!!!pixiedust:

That's about it from me, which is enough. Thanks to everyone for reading this - I know it was long. :grouphug:
Have a great Sunday everyone!!!

Slo, wishing you all the best!!!:wizard: I am sure you will have an awesome interview!
If you are interested in fall softball with us old ladies, let me know. It would be Thursday nights. If we can get 4 ladies teams together, the Park District will have a ladies fall ball. Our team is looking for a few more ladies.:goodvibes

Hi Chicago Dis friends! It's been a long time since I've posted here, but I have been keeping up with this thread.
Sandy, I just have to tell you how sorry I am that your business is closing. You do so much for your family and business, and I admire you for that. I wish you the best and hope you can get that job you want! Maybe this will work out for the best for you. I will keep you in my prayers, and be sure to let us know how things are going. You are The "Boss" of this thread, and without you, it would have been gone a long time ago. Take care.
Scott

Hi Everyone! It's been a looooong time since I posted last, but I desperately needed a Disney fix. :tinker: We've got our next visit to the happiest place on Earth planned for this winter and DS4 has been making me crazy ever since, asking when is winter? I can't explain to him clearly enough that winter in Chicago will come soon enough!:rotfl2:
Hope everyone is doing well!

Hee...hee... I needed a fix too. I just made a rsvp for Whispering Canyon for breakfast for the last day of our New Years trip!
