Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi Chicago gang! Been a while since I checked in. Leaving for WDW next Thursday with a group of other Mom's with children with Autism. Should be a great trip! Running around crazy until then.

DD13 took the entrance exam for St. Ignatius last weekend, there were A LOT of kids there for the test. They mail the results Feb. 15 - gulp.

So sad about the Joliet store, they closed the one in Yorktown by me too but there is one in Oak Brook which is just as close. The Yorktown was an 'original' one too, Oak Brook is more modern without the neat character features.

disneygal - great news on the airfare! We might drive for our June trip.
*I'm sick of winter too!!

Stitchfans - glad to hear things are looking up for you.

:wave2: to everyone else! Must make this quick, lots to do today! Have a great day!! :flower3:

I wonder if John would still suggest to bring the sack of cold burgers?? Hhhmmmmm??

Now, don't be silly! For plane trips, it's chicken parm sandwiches from Nabby's in Plainfield. ;)

When CarolAnnC and I were dating and she would fly out here on weekends, we would always stop at Nabby's on the way back to the airport and pick up a chicken parm sandwich on garlic bread for her flight back on Southwest Air. She said you could always smell that sandwich as she ate it on the plane and everyone would ask where she got it.

Several years back, when my folks were first doing the snowbird thing in Florida, my father was still adjusting to the Florida heat and learning not to over do it with his heart meds. So, my mother had flown up one winter to visit and a day before she was due to fly back, my father had called and was very sick. So, she called the airline and had her ticket changed to fly out that day. On the way to the airport, I stopped at a hotdog stand for lunch and she decided she would wait until she was back in Florida to have lunch. I kept elling her to at least take a hot dog with her just in case, but she kept insisting she'd be home in three hours. Anyway, as we drove to the airport, it started to snow heavily. By the time she was on board, the snow was deep enough that the plane had to sit on the tarmac for an hour while they cleaned up the runways. She said she was starved and all she could think about was she should have taken that hotdog. LOL

I usually stick a bag of Corn Nuts in my carry on. LOL

John -
I have never eaten at Nabby's but your description of that sandwich sounds awesome. I think it is high time I stopped in!

I can also recommend American Taxi. We usually get a mini-van for our family of five. It is a flat rate based on where you live. The driver was on time and it was very painless. When we got back in to town, we just called American taxi and they picked us up from O'Hare within five minutes of calling. It was great not to have to shovel off a snowy car!

I just made my first DVC booking, first weekend in June to see Star Wars weekends and the new Star Tours (I hear the new version will be opening before this year's weekends starts).

Staying at my home resort, BLT. Makes me glad we have a Doorway to Dreams location here so I could see the rooms.

Have fun.. i loved Star Wars weekend.. it was so much fun.. from the storm troopers on top of the enterance talking to you to the lectures and the parade..

Well call me batty.. but I am thinking about another cruise.. on the fanatasy..

Hi Everyone! :flower3: good news... I HAVE AN INTERVIEW TOMORROW! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with it. The hours would work well so I could still work at TDS evenings and weekends! Speaking of TDS... I got my core cast member shirt yesterday so now I'm officially official! I'm so excited! If I could get full time there it would be perfect for me but until something comes up there, I need to find a day job! In regards to our upcoming trip, we finally booked our dining plan. We are most likely going to cancel our ADR at Victoria and Alberts. :sad1: With me not having a full time job, money is very tight. Maybe someday though.

ID ~ Pixie Dust to your DD on her entrance exam results! :wizard:

Crissup ~ mmm a chicken Parm sandwich sounds really good right now!

Donald_Quackers and LindaBelle ~ Welcome to the thread! Come by often! :dance3:

Geffric ~ DH and I keep saying we want to do a cruise one of these years... have fun!

Everyone ~ :wave2 hope everyone is doing well!

Hi. Not sure who this was directed to since I didn't look back far enough but I thought I would warn the poster that American Taxi has some dishonest drivers. Twice two of them charged me more than they were suppose to to make sure that they got a tip. I acted as if I did not realize it and then just considered the extra charge as their tip. Otherwise the company is very efficient and on time. There is always a few spoiled apples to make the barrel look rotten. :sad2:

Irish Dancer I am so jealous wish I was going to DW. Have a great time.

Been busy trying to find a job, find a used inexpensive truck, car, whatever as an extra vehicle so DD's are not stranded at the house whenever I find work. Been so busy with my grandson, Liam who is the light of my life. He is one month now. Cute as can be.

Will be closing on my "new" home in southern IL on the 26th. They sure move slowly around here. As a matter of fact I was so shocked at the difference of the school system compared to the one up north. Up north there could be ten feet of snow and there is school. An inch here and it is called off since the buses have problems getting way out to the farms. Also call off because it was too cold. 11 degrees. :laughing:It has been below 0 and worst and DG schools are still in session. From one extreme to the other.

Sure love the sunshine around here though. Seldom saw it up north. Just wish I could find work so I am not living off of the savings. Youngest DD is loving it here. She has a boyfriend, friends and loves her youth group from our church. Didn't have any of that up north. As a matter of fact her principal goes to our church and coincides days off with activities from the church. Last weekend the youth joined another church from Bloomington to go to a camp in White Lake, Wisconsin.

DD16 had a blast. Met some real nice kids from Bloomington and had a nice longer weekend. She has a bad cough and cold right now so I guess that is the price she has to pay for her fun.

Today is my birthday and I am 54. :headache:Feeling my age since I am taking turns with oldest DD with the nightly feedings. Love my grandson - hate losing so much sleep. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Take Care everyone!!

happy birthday Stitchfans.. sounds likje things are finally getting together..:grouphug:

Hi guys! Well, I'm back from my whirlwind weekend in WDW. It was an amazing time albeit cold. :cold: Just not right for it to be 30s and 40s in WDW. ;) Laid a bit low now with a cold, thinking it might not have been a good idea to ride BTMRR in 40 degree weather. :rotfl:

disneygal - hope the interview went well!

Donald Quackers - Welcome! We are DVC owners too but at AKV. Love it! We'll be down there in June for SWW too, DS10 is a BIG fan.

Stitchfans - Happy Belated Birthday!! So glad to hear things are better for you in So IL.

geffric - we're thinking of a cruise in 2012, any tips?

Hope everyone is well! Hoping winter ends soon but know it probably won't since it's Chicago. Going to focus on our June trip to get me through the rest of the winter. Have a great night all! :flower3:

I usually don't post on this thread so forgive me for barging in. ;)

With all of this weather talk, I've been watching ABC news in the morning. I haven't had the news on in the morning for a few months but what the heck is up with Tracy Butler's accent? Last week I thought that maybe she had some dental work done. Today, the way she's been saying "morning" and a few other words just doesn't sound like I remember her. I had to change to NBC.

:happytv:

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for the birthday wishes. Just when I thought I was floating on cloud #9:cloud9: something has to come along and knock me off.

Wait until you all hear what has been going on. I did not go into detail about DH because we were still working on our relationship. He had moved out of the house about 3 months ago living with a "friend" across town. He came over for my birthday gave me a nice card with hugs and kisses in it and I thought all was well.

Well, Friday he showed up here in the evening in a manic attitude. All day Thursday he appeared to be agitated calling here, texting youngest DD making all sorts of demands, making all sorts of threats so on to me and her.

Friday night moments after we got home from grocery shopping and running errands he peals up into my driveway spraying gravel all over the place. He jumped out of his truck and came running up to me with his face all red with rage. He was screaming in my face something about the cops and having me arrested.

Next thing I know oldest DD comes running up to us because she thought he was going to hit me. They are both face to face screaming at each other. I tried to stop it by yelling at DD to go into the house and to DH to get back in his truck and leave. Neither one listened to me.

DH kept yelling at DD telling her to hit him. I kept yelling don't do it! Go into the house!! He was baiting her hoping she would lose her temper hit him and then he could press charges sending her to jail. Meanwhile youngest DD is inside with my 5 week old grandson the two of them crying.

Suddenly DD goes inside. DH calls the cops and another phone call is being made from inside the house to them. I found out after the fact that DH had head butt DD and her lip was split. Blood all over her face and some on his nose from her lip. Naturally since she is hurt DH is arrested. Plus of course as you all may remember that is how I got him help was to have him arrested so he could be confined in one place to get his meds into him. So of course the cops way of thinking is here we go again.

To make matters worst---- when the cop went back to talk to DH he saw DH rummaging in his glove box or somewhere in the truck because the next thing I heard was. Cop- what is that you have there? Is that a knife?
Sure enough DH went to hand the knife to the cop. within seconds the cop has his gun to DH's head yelling at him - are you that stupid? What is wrong with you? Do you have a death wish. I could of blown your head away!

All the while I am standing there holding my breath praying like I have never prayed before. Another cop shows up. I went inside to get control of myself. The cop with the gun followed me and DD inside. He took pictures of DD's mouth. He took her statement. He asked questions. He said that since this was the second time DH was picked up for domestic violence chances are this time he will go to prison for at least a year.

I am so lost. The man is sick. Not a criminal. Yet he is so messed up I have my doubts he will ever be well again. There is no doubt his only intentions is to destroy me financially and emotionally. I've been told by many to get a divorce and move on. The cop said this is the perfect time since he is locked up.

I did not picture myself myself like this. I did not think my life would be like this. :sad2: I can not think straight. I am afraid to make any more decisions. I do not want to leave the house. I know I have to. I have things I should be doing. DD's and my grandson need me to be strong. I am really trying.

Happy Snowy-filled day everyone! I was supposed to go to work tonight at TDS but I just received a call that the mall is closing early. I've worked at the mall since 1999 (3 different stores) and this is only the 2nd time they've closed early. The other time was 9/11. I was planning on putting my work clothes in a back pack, bundling up and just walking so I didn't have to worry about my car freezing shut, digging it out or dealing with the side roads that are still unplowed. My dad didn't like that idea or the idea of me driving my little car in this weather so he was going to come in his 4wheel drive SUV and take me. Then Mike was going to pick me up... well... now i don't have to do any of that. In other news, today was garbage and recycling day... I went to go bring them in before it gets any worse and found our garbage can lidless. So I need to go buy a new garbage can within the next few days b/c our association requires lids on all cans. oh well!

In other news, we ended up canceling our Victoria and Alberts ADR. We changed up our ADRs. Instead of V&As for our Anniversary dinner we got one at 9:20 at the California Grill, WISHES is at 10 so that may be good timing. IDK. We canceled Narcoossee's on our first night and are trying to decide on something to do instead. We are paying OOP so we were thinking of trying something not on the ddp. I have a thread on the restaurant board for suggestions, but if anyone around here would like to share his or her opinion, it would be greatly appreciated! As a refresher, our ADRs are for Le Chefs de France, Biergarten, CG, Chef Mickey's, Ohana, Yak and Yeti. :goodvibes

daughtersrus - Welcome to our thread here! I stopped watching the news years ago so I can't really comment on your finding.

Stitch - Sorry to hear about your situation. You and your family are in my thoughts.

Everyone else ~ hope you are all doing well and staying safe and warm!
