Calling all Chicago DISers #3

I'm pretty sure you will NOT have to go through security a 2nd time. Of course, these days, who knows? However, we've flown international and once we pass security in a country even if it's only a layover, that's it. Have a great trip. You may want to speak with United or even a travel agent. They should have the inside scoop.

I tend to agree with this, unless switching from domestic to international makes a difference? :confused3 I say call United. ;)

Thanks ALL for the Kelly comments! :goodvibes

dg - figure out what you're forgetting yet? :confused3 No worries! You seem quite organized! ;)

id - cool trip for DD! SF!!! Wish I was going with! Happy 13th to her! :hippie:

natash - we lost about 1/3, but it's slowly coming back, and DD was in the 'group' that is SUPPOSED to be getting some more money back in the spring (?) from that rotten investment firm.

pc - you crack me up! Ah, to be 18 again! :) Lotsa snow here! DD is praying for a snow day Wed., and so am I! I don't want to drive her ANYWHERE!

Stay warm everyone! Not sure what the AM holds in store for us right now! :scared:

Morning everyone! Long time no post. My computer doesn't seem to like the Dis much. My computer gets really sluggest and my posts disappear. Not sure if it is my computer or the DIS.

Did everyone feel the earthquake. I thought a plow hit the house. Lots of noise and shaking. My headboard in a bookcase design with a small lamp on top. That almost fell off. That would not have made a good morning for me. :headache:

Looks like school is on so I better make sure someone is up and in the shower. I hope everyone is ok and no damage.

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: how 'bout that snow?? even though my dad snow blowed the driveway twice yesterday, I still had to shovel my car out. There was about four inches on 90% of the driveway then a giant drift that went up to my driver's side window and hood... :scared1: so i just shoveled a little path, cleaned off the car and went on my merry way. our street wasn't plowed either and i was quite worried i was going to get stuck as i backed out of the driveway... obviously i didn't b/c i'm here at work. :) at least the sun is out!

ID ~ glad your dog is starting to feel a tad better. Hope DD has fun in San Francisco

Tigg ~ 32" in Baltimore!! Yikes, hope your neice stays indoors!

Geffric ~ i hate when posts disappear. It's happened to me a couple times recently. it's so frustrating.

Chell ~ glad work is getting better. Sorry you didn't get a snow day. I wish I got snow days from work... that would be nice.

sympatico ~ I agree with the others. I'm pretty sure your won't have to go through security a second time but I've never flown international so i'm not positive.

kim ~ i haven't exactly figured out what i was forgetting but i'm pretty sure it was my dress. they told me it'd be ready by the weekend and that they'd call me but i haven't heard anything yet. i think i'm going to give them a call today.

hersey ~ i think i'm a little far south to feel the earthquake but i'm glad your lamp didn't fall and that everyone and everything is ok!

everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day.

Stichfans,
Carrier Mills is down near Marion penitentiary. Almost to Kentucky. Yes, cost of living is much, much lower down there, but it's a completely different way of life. It's not for everyone.
:)

Hi Crissup. Can you elaborate? Completely different? In what way? You mean because it is so country? I don't need restaurants "right there" or anything "right there" to be honest. As long as there is a place where we can run out to get milk or something like that I am fine. From what I heard from my aunt the next big town over which is Harrisburg is 7 miles away which takes 10 to 15 minutes to get there. I can deal with that and be happy with that.

A slower pace with friendlier people plus less expensive sounds heavenly to me. I would love to plant a large garden and can whatever comes out of it. I would love to have some peace and quiet for a change without all the noise of heavy traffic.

I am just hoping we can get enough from our house here to pay off all our expenses, plus have enough to buy a house there with no mortgage payments. Then I am hoping we can have $500 left for me to take the CNA class which is only 3 months long there and then go see about a job as an CNA. Just hope all goes smoothly and all. Not sure how to juggle it with the distance.

Obviously we have to sell this house first to see how much we have to play with and then after all is paid off hope we have enough for whatever we can find there. Plus of course moving costs. All that make me so nervous but I guess as the saying goes ,"if there's a will there's a way"

I am hoping we can have all of this done before fall so DD can start off the new school year there. First we have to do some cosmetic improvements with our house at minimum cost. Sure hope we can do quite a bit on very little. We will see.

Hi guys! Phew, long day! DH had to snow blow again this morning before leaving with the girls for school because the driveway was completely covered over even though he had already done it twice earlier. Today was hot lunch for them and I was a helper mom so I was there most of the day. Did get to pack DD12 on the sly for her trip though. She was completely stunned! DH and I both felt the earthquake, had no idea what happened but definitely felt it. Crazy!

Stitchfans - best of luck with deciding about moving. We too are thinking of heading down to Charlotte, NC after DD12 graduates 8th grade next year. Can't take the winters anymore and have a little bit of family down that way. So hard though as I've lived in the same town nearly my whole life.

disneygal - my DH snow blowed twice yesterday too and you'd have never known it looking out this morning.

Hersey - most definitely felt the quake, we have wooden blinds on the window and they were rattling. Had no idea what happened.

KimRaye - I wish I was going along on the trip too! Can't wait to hear all about it!

MJ - did we get enough snow for you?! LOL. No snow day for us here either today and we had regular start. My kids were dying for a day off, did the whole snow dance, pjs inside out/backwards, etc. Just as glad they went as I needed time to pack DD12 for her trip without her being here. ;)

geffric - ugh, I hate when that happens!!

Tiggerrn - I've had enough of the snow! Was talking with another mom at school today, her parents are in Baltimore and are afraid of their roof collapsing with all the snow. Scary!

:wave2: to everyone else, hope everyone is surviving the snow!

Well, DH is in Omaha so I'm flying solo with the kids. Have to get them in bed and then make lunches so the morning will go more smoothly. Have a great night all!

Okay, snow AND an earthquake and I still had school. This whole no snow day situation is bumming me out. My dad and brother must have snowblew like 6 times yesterday to keep up. The roads by my house were surprisingly clear considering they are almost always the last to get cleaned. Tomorrow and Friday my NHS group is selling Jamba Juice at my school to raise money for Haiti. I have to be there at 650am to meet my manager and get everything set up (because I work at Jamba). So I'm off to bed early so I can get up at 6 to be there on time.

KimRaye Hahah I worry about more than snow days and shopping, but at that moment that was what my brain was thinking about. 18 is lovely, yet not so at the same time...high school senior sucks sometimes.
irish dancer Naw still not enough snow because I had to go to school. What are these snow day rituals you speak of? I may need to give them a try!

Stay safe everyone else!

Hi everyone.
Just heard from the guy who does our taxes that due to Illinois being so far in debt we most likely will not see our refunds until June. Maybe sooner for the federal refunds but most likely not until June for those too. :headache: Sure could use that money since we are living off of our savings right now.

No luck with a job and even if I did if all goes as planned I would only be working there for a few months any way. If I am very very careful we should be okay with our saving until the refund comes and we sell the house. Just hope we get a decent price for it. I know we won't get what it is worth but at least enough to buy a home in Carrier Mills and pay off a few debts.

Then I just heard that most movers charge by the hour. :headache: if that is true the haul from here to southern Illinois will be really expensive. More to think about.:laughing: Then as my mind wandered I was thinking about the drive there with three cats. :headache::rolleyes1

Then I started thinking how I hated leaving the evergreen tree we planted in memory of my mom. It is a little over 6 foot now growing from a sapling. No doubt that would cost a fortune to dig up and ship over there. Not to mention whether it would survive. :sad2: guess that will be one sacrifice I will have to make. I know that is the least of my worries. I'm being silly with that.

So much to do with the clutter around here and so much to do with the cosmetic things that need to be done. I am hoping we are all done and the house is sold sometime in the summer for DD to start school in Carrier Mills this fall. Crossing my fingers. Nervous and so excited all at the same time.

Stitch Not like my refund would bankrupt the state. I filed last week of January and got the state refund on monday 2/8. Good luck with the move. I think but don't quote me they charge differently for long distance moves. If they charge by the hour for all no one would take their stuff with.

Thanks Hersey I feel better. It's not like we have tons of furniture. Just will have tons of boxes due to all these years of collecting stuff. Funny for what we are getting back from the state it shouldn't/ wouldn't hurt them much either. The federal one is the one that should keep us afloat until we move and sell the house.

Afternoon all! DD had her first dance after school today.:rolleyes1I was a chaperone. Nobody danced!!:laughing:They sat and talked, they munched food, they walked around and stood in circles, and a few boys did their hip hop stuff. Not like the Jr. High dances I recall. A few boys in their school have their own little band and they were allowed to play 3 songs. Are you ready for this...........they played AC/DC and Black Sabbath!! :lmao:The kids were looking at them like what is this junk! Some of the teachers didn't know what it was either.:scared1:I know I am OLD, but geesh!
Stitch, good luck with preparing to move. I know that mess all too well.
Hi to everyone! Just wanted to drop in, catch up and say hello! Off to bring kids to respective after school activities, as usual. Have a nice evening!
Watching SURVIVOR tonight!:woohoo:

Happy Valentines Day everyone!!

Been busy cleaning out all the extra things we no longer need or use. Called someone to help with some work that needs to be done on the house that we can not do. He is coming Sunday to give us his estimate of how much it will be.

Can not believe how much stuff you collect over the years. Found things I did not remember owning. Now to get Amvets or someone to come grab all these bags. Either that or we will drop them all off at the Salvation Army box not far from our home. So much cleaning and painting to be done. UGH!!!

Hey everyone! Hope everyone had a good weekend, and your kids had a good day off. I worked Sunday night and today. But, other than that I got plans for turnabout figured out, got my turnabout dress, and went to the Hawks game Saturday night with my friend. Oh and I've been watching the Olympics like no other! Love them! :) Hope this finds everyone in a good place, despite the snow we were getting as I was driving home from work a few hours ago...
OH! and I heard back from Columbia and the art school in Boston...I got into both with a huge scholarship from Boston! And yet I still can't decide...

Tiggerrn2 No dancing...? What?!? We used to get in trouble for dancing at my middle school...:rolleyes1 and the teachers just stay away at our high school dances now. Just wait they will dance...
Stitchfans I hope everything with the pending move goes well!

Happy Late Valentines Day everyone! :)

:)

Chell: that is fantastic news! thanks for the good wishes.

:laughing:so far we have 12 bags in our room to get rid of and 8 in the spare bedroom. not finished with that room yet. Have not tackled DD's room, really dreading that. especially her closet.

Been checking into mover's fees and am shocked how expensive. One told me that summer is the most expensive time and that it would be at least $5 to $10 more an hour. :scared1: HAVE TO DO MORE SHOPPING AROUND!

So much more to do so I do not have that much time to "goof around" on the computer.

DD said since this most likely will be her last chance to go to a dance at her high school she wanted to make sure she went to the turn a bout dance. I am so excited for her since the boy she asked said yes. Now I am a bit nervous about spending all that money but figure maybe I can sell something so she can have a great memory. Since her Christmas was not all that great to say the least and all I want to do this for her.

Plus this July is her sweet 16 birthday and again I can not make plans because I do not know where we will be or what we will be doing. She is such a great kid and is really getting the short end of the stick on all of this. I feel so horrible about that. I am trying to make her life as nice as possible with all that is going on and seem to be failing. :sad2:

She has not griped once. I have to make this dance as magical as possible for her. Who knows what the other school in Carrier Mills has to offer when we get there.

Wowzy, we are slow around here! I have been checking in everyday and am also guilty of not posting.

Yeseterday, I booked Southwest from July 1 - July 10 to Orlando for $74 each way! The fares had been at $122 since they were released. I was getting antsy to book but played the waiting game. I was so excited!

chell - Congrats on your school acceptances! Way to go. Have fun at the dance!

Stitich - Good luck with all you have going on! How is dh doing?

Slo - where or where has our Slo gone? Hope you are OK!

Hi to everybody else!

Lori

Another one guilty of not checking in.

Been really, really busy here. We moved into FIL's to keep an eye on him. He needs a babysitter. My 'wonderful' SIL showed her dad just how much money he has in the bank and he started tearing through it like crazy. Their mother never let him get near the money...ever! And for good reasons. We've always know this. SIL it a total ....GRRRR! I can't say here!!

It's in the 60's here!! Great February weather....for a change! :rotfl:

SLO's on Facebook if anyone wants to chat with her there.

momto1 Congrats on the great fares!! Awesome catch! :thumbsup2

chell Yay on the acceptances!!!

Stitch I've never heard of a long distance move being by the hour. Are you calling small moving companies? Try some of the big one's like United. They come in and see what you have, figure the distance and give you a quote. Or think about doing the move on your own. Do you have a AAA membership? You can get discount with Penske rental with a AAA card. We moved ourselves across the country. If you have questions, pm me.

Kim Watched Kelly's skating vid. She looked awesome! :cool1: Congrats to her!

disneygal How is the planning going? Not much longer now!!!! :dance3:

Tiggerrn Funny how no one danced!! Lauren's school had a dance around the holidays. She and her friends danced their butts off!

Hi to all! :wave2:

Momto1: thanks. DH is doing pretty good. He says he is about 70% well. He "looks" better than that but of course he is a better judge of that. Wow! You got an awesome deal on air fare!!

The big baby is constantly griping because I won't let him go back to his stinky cigarettes. He has been off them this long he should lay off them for good.

Bunckin. thanks PM sent.

Still have so much more to do with this "cleaning up" work around here. Still have to finish the spare bedroom and then DD's room plus closet. :scared1::scared1::scared1:

This weekend we will go out looking for her dress. This will be her first dance since she did not want to go her freshmen year. I think I am more exited about it then she is.

Hope everyone else is having a great day. Yeh, it sure has been slow here lately. Not much to comment on or read. :confused3 Guess I should stop procrastinating and just read a few more threads then get back to work. :headache:

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and support. Talk to ya all later.
