Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi gang! Bye gang! This time tomorrow I hope to be in beautiful Florida. The travel forcast looks rainy so I hope for no flight delays or bumpy flights!

Slo - Phone Bingo is at work. Each player gets bingo cards and plays from the desk or work location. Someone in HR calls out numbers over the intercome every so oftern. We play until there are several winners. Pretty fun!

ID - Wishing your daughter success in her election. DS has elections at his school too. He doesn't run but it is funny seeing the campaing slogans and posters.

Paint - I have never made a pie from a sugar pumpkin or anything else for that matter. I hope your pie turned out delicious.

Mac - Getting packing! You leave soon! Have fun and enjoy your meet ups.

I am ready to start this vacation but have to work a little late tonight.

Hi to everyone else! I will see you in October!
Lori

Momto1 - have a great trip and a safe flight..

everyone's driving stories are funny ( to me :rotfl2:anyway.) I wouldn't dare discuss problems getting to Ohare ;):confused3 just let it be known that I don't do it.. ever.. since I get so confused with all those exits and entrances and xpressways.. LOL..

Anyway, I am off to Cleveland for a baby shower on Sat.. ( yes I am driving) so I'll check in when I get back..,

Geffric I was just thinking about you. Some friends are going to the Boy scout jamboree this weekend. Have fun at the shower.

There was no rain here today but it kind of looks like it wants to.

Everyone going to the Motherland have fun remember me just sitting here :rolleyes1 wondering what you are eating now. Mickey bar, dole whip, Mickey krispie bar, funnel cake. Have I missed anything:upsidedow

DS#1 is going to NWSC BSA conclave this weekend..

Shall we call you when we are enjoying a Mickey bar or dole whip?

Howdy! :wave2:

For a birthday surprise for Lauren next month, I'm booking the Happy Haunts tour at Disneyland. It should be a lot of fun!
You get 2 tour guides who take you around to both parks and 4 different rides, give background info, stories, etc. You get a cool gift and a treat. Then vouchers for special seating for the Halloween fireworks. Two of the rides being Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain which were just redecorated for Halloween. Total time for the tour is 3 hours.

:welcome: to the newbies!!!

disneygal Happy birthday and I hope you're having a great time!!! :cake:

momto1 Have a great trip!!! Bingo at work sounds fun!!!
Hope your son listens to his coach!! :thumbsup2

slo Sorry to hear you got lost. Didn't that GPS get you lost to the pumpkin farm meet a couple years ago??

mac Get packin'!!! :goodvibes

hersey We can cover a number of yummy treats for you!! Except the Dole Whip. I love pineapple but I don't like those Dole Whips.
Last time I had one was a few years ago and we meant to buy one last trip to retry it and see if I changed my mind but forgot to.

Gotta run! Time to make tacos! It's taco night again. :upsidedow

Evenin ya'll...
I'm so jealous of all ya'll going to DW soon! I don't think my family is making a trip this year because I'm off to college next year, and apparently paying for my education is more important than the annual trip to Disney :confused3 ;). Only kidding, I understand why we aren't going, but I sure am going to miss it. I've been so lucky to be able to go so much, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining.
I met another woman who did the CP tonight at work (I met another a few weeks ago) so I got to talk some Disney with her. She was surprised at how much I knew. I can't wait till I am in college to be able to do the CP...

slo I volunteer at an after school day care program at a local elementary school. I go every Monday after school for a few hours. Plus I'll have to pick up another volunteering "job" to get my hours done in time. Instead of taking the final in my Sociology class I can do 40 hours of community service. I probably should have just taken the test because of everything else I have going on (two jobs and an internship), but I think I'm going to get more out of volunteering than I would taking the final. Or I hope I will. =)

WooHoo!!!! It's Friday!!!!!:yay::woohoo:
I always love the fact that I don't have to rush the kids out the door the next couple of days.:)

Mac - I'm hoping I can clear my head of stress by 2010, and get back on the diet track:thumbsup2

TTTTiiigggernnnnn - I"m sorry you had a bad airport experience too :guilty:

paint - My friend got on her sisters in front of her whole family, and they told her she was obese - she could have died!!!!! :faint: She knows she's overweight, but she didn't need it broadcast to everyone on a tv screen. :sad2: She was very embarrassed!!!

momto1 - The phone bingo sounds like alot of fun!!!!:)
**Have a wonderful and safe trip tomorrow :cool1: I know you'll have a great time, and I look forward to hearing all about your trip when you come home :)

geffric - Be safe going to Cleveland, and I hope your driving experience is better than mine and Lindas:wizard:

HERSEY - :wave2:

Bunchkin - That tour sounds really awesome - Lauren will love it!!!!!:yay:
**I forgot about getting lost to the pumpkin patch  That stupid GPS had me pulling up in someone's driveway:laughing: Thank goodness I had your cellphone number in my phone so I could call you.

chell - I know a couple of DISers that did the CP at WDW and they really enjoyed it. I hope you are able to do it too :wizard:
**I think choosing the volunteering work was an excellent choice. I'm sure it's more work, but you'll get life experiences that a test could NEVER give you. I think it was awesome that you were given the choice:thumbsup2

Well, it's time to wake up Katie and see how she's doing.
She's developed a croopy cough, that I'm getting a little nervous about. She had the same thing last spring, that when I took her to the doctor, the doctor said she would have had pneumonia by the end of the weekend:eek: I put her in a steam shower last night for about 20 minutes (it got so steamy in there, that I thought the wallpaper was going to come down:laughing:) and gave her some Mucinex, and had her use the inhaler she had to use last Spring. If she's not any better this morning, than we'll have to make a trip to the doctor today - bummer!!!!! :guilty:

Have a good day everyone!!!

Morning! My mom and Dsis left for WDW this morning. Grr...where's a jealous smiley when you need one? Ds got on the phone with Gma last night and was supposed to be asking her to bring him a Halloween pin-instead he starts describing some Lego robot thing that is $80! Nice try, kiddo!
Big weekend plans? I work lunch today, school function tonight, visiting a friend in IN tomorrow, and then I am a NFL widow on Sunday! That's when I have my fun (aka homework, laundry, etc).
Slo- My sister's friend got on the Wii fit that same day and it said she was obese, too. I think she is about 5'8" and probably 160- not Hollywood thin but obese?!?
Princess Chell- I hate having to skip a WDW trip and be responsible. No trip for us this summer since I have to take summer classes to student teach in fall. Have you decided where you'll go to school? What is your major?
Hersey- I think you covered all my fave snacks, except for the icecream cookie sandwich at Main St Bakery.
gef- I am looing forward to ENJOYING a Mickey bar this Dec.- let me explain...I have to inhale them, not savor them, in the summer or they are a melty mess!
momto- Have fun!
Bunchkin- That tour sounds fun! I love decorating for Halloween and would love to see DL/WDW around that time of year (heck, I love to see it anytime of year! WHo am I kidding?!?).

Hi everyone. Sorry I've been away so long. Not much time to get online these days. Took Carol to a few new eateries lately that we hadn't previously tried. Five Guys Burgers, downtown Naperville, was excellent! One of the best burgers I've had in years! I've gotten so tired of the Red Robins and other places who all use preformed frozen patties anymore. Almost forgot what it was like to have a real hand formed burger made from fresh ground beef!

We also tried Rizzo's, downtown Naperville. Their burgers are normally like $8-$10. But on Thursdays, they have a special where all their burgers are $3. Of course, they hold all the sides for that special, so fries will cost an extra $1.50, but it's still a great deal as it's a large burger!

Finally, I hadn't been to the Old World restaurant downtown Lemont in a few years and was really jonesing for some good polish food. So, we stopped in there Tuesday night and found they're now doing all you can eat pierogis on Tuesday nights. Great deal. 4 kinds, saurkraut, potatoe, cheese and meat. Can mix and match them as you order. Excellent!

Bunchy,
I've found Disneyland has far more Disneyholics that Disney World. Being the original park with the most magical feeling, people in southern California are very proud of that park.

I can't stand the GPS. I don't trust it. It always seems like it's taking me the wrong way!

I bought Carol a GPS a couple years ago, but we rarely even have it with us. Carol doesn't drive much, so she often needs help with how to get to places that we don't frequent. So, I figured the GPS would help. Problem is, I'm usually the one driving and I just ignore it and go my own ways, which is rarely the way the GPS wants me to go. LOL!

we were supposed to go to Terminal 3 as American Airlines is not in the international terminal.

I've had a couple of trips to the UK where I keep thinking I should be leaving from Term 5, but they fly out of the normal terminal. We did fly out of Term 5 on Swiss Air two years ago heading for Barcelona.

quick drive by.

i'm exhausted.
probably will go back to bed and come back here when i am fully awake.

i hate it when this happens.
i have a trip to prepare for, a house to clean, and need time to dis....

Woke up with a headache today - I hate it when that happens!!!!!:headache:
I know it will be with me all day, which is a bummer, because we have plans to go to our neighbors for dinner, and to let the girls play. It won't be so much fun when I don't feel well :guilty:

Katie never had to go to the doctor, but I have to continue giving her her puffer/inhaler and Musinex. I was also told be the doctor that she can't be playing outside in night air, morning air, and damp air - it's not good for her. Kevin is slightly asmatic, and these type of airs have always bothered him too. Keeping her inside is not going to be easy, when everyone else is outside - I feel bad for her :guilty::guilty:

Kevin officially closed up the pool yesterday - summer is officially over!!!:guilty:
I hate looking out or dining room window, or kitchen door, and seeing that cover on.
I'm starting to count the days until it comes off again :)

paint - You are coming to my neck of the woods. Where in Indiana are you going to be?

Crissup - We love periogies, and would love to eat at this restaurant - we'll have to try it out sometime.:thumbsup2

Mac - I was really tired last night too. Kevin and I tried to watch a tv show, and I slept through most of it:rolleyes:

Time to get ready for my busy day.
First - soccer game
Second - work until 4pm
Third - Mass
Fourth - dinner at my neighbors house

Have a good Saturday everyone!!!

Good morningn everyone.

Slo Sorry you have a headache. I hope it goes away soon.

Mac I hope you have made some progress packing. I hate feeling sluggesh when there is so much to do.

John I have been thinking about getting a GPS so we can drive downtown. I usually need someone to navigate so I can negotiate the walkers and buses goofy cabs. It sounds like you found some great bargins. How is CarollAnn doing?

We got our flu shots yesterday at Costco. Hopefully we can skate (not literaly) through this season without the flu.

Well I better get shoveling out this house, since it still hasn't figured out how to clean itself.:rolleyes1

Happy Saturday guys!! It was an early morning here, DD12 had another bball game at 8a which means being there at 7:30a - we're NOT morning people. ;) They won!! They're at 2-6 with only one game left in the season. I have to say they don't seem to be getting down and they play hard all the way to the end. DS9 and DD8 had a sleepover at the inlaws, have to leave in a few to pick them up.

Thanks for all the good luck messages for DD12's run for student council, she didn't get elected but only three 7th graders made it so she didn't feel too bad.

slo - so sorry you have a headache, it's always tough to wake up with one. Those don't seem to go away do they?

mac - hope you were able to get some things done yesterday. Your trip will be here before you know it!

Hersey - we haven't done anything about flu shots, usually don't but might try for the H1N1 when it comes out.

Crissup - those restaurants sound yummy!
*We too have been caught up by International for AA out of the regular terminal. They should post some sort of sign I think at the Int'l terminal for AA to proceed to the regular terminal.

paint - hope you have a safe and fun trip to IN.
*Hope your DSis and DMom have a great time in the World!

MJ - I know how you feel not having a trip on the horizon, not sure we'll make it in 2010 and if we don't it won't be until late in 2011. :sad2:
*My DD8 has her heart set on the CP, I hope it's still around by the time she's in college. ;)

Bunchkin - I know I told you on FB but that tour sounds great, I hope you'll come back to tell us all about it!

I hope all with upcoming trips to WDW have a fab time and that the sun shines on you while there!

Well, time to run. DD12 had gymnastics and have to pick up the kiddos from the inlaws! Have a great day everyone!! :flower3:

Well, lats night was the kids' school "carnival". It was mainly inside the school since it was rainy, but the kids still had tons of fun. We then tried to watch "Eastbound and Down" (HBO series by Will Ferrell), but I couldn't get into it. I like stupid funny stuff, but it was mostly stupid, not so much funny. Today we are heading to Highland, IN for dh's friend's bday. She's a girl, so it turn out a lot better than when we visited dh's friend in TX!:rotfl2: Sorry, Crissup!:)
Slo- Hope your headache lightens up! Sometimes I wake up with a sinus headache, especially if it is really dry in the house.
ID- Too bad about student council. Glad dd is not too upset! There's always next year! DS got to work the popcorn table last night for student council. He was excited, but they ran out of popcorn so he only got to do it for 10 minutes!
Hersey- I get my shot next weeks, but the kids got the mist last week. Insurance covers it for free for them, it my dr. said it was just as good as the shot, so they get it. Plus, there is no crying then! Except for next week when I get mine!
Mac- Priorities, I tell ya'! Homework, laundry, sheesh...I have Dis'ing to do!
Crissup- We have a place very similar to 5 Guys called Meatheads. It is really good! I love those fresh cut fries! Never heard of the pierogi place, but I'll have to check it out. The kids are pierogi fiends! I have to make two boxes or dh and I don't get any!

Almost time to hit the road. See you all tomorrow morning! Have a great Saturday!

Good morningn everyone.

Mac I hope you have made some progress packing. I hate feeling sluggesh when there is so much to do.

Well I better get shoveling out this house, since it still hasn't figured out how to clean itself.:rolleyes1

i am going to make my list today of what i need to pack.
i think that is progress.

i work best under stress............

have been working in the dump that i call home all this week.
stripped wax from 3 floors and rewaxed.
what a job that is, and the time it consumes............whew.....

if i would do those type of jobs regularly, then it wouldn't be such a chore when i do work on them..

tuesday will be a very busy day for me.
three set appointments on that day.
nails, hair and dentist.
oh, and packing.

my house is 99% complete now so i can relax today......

hope all you chicagoland homies are having a great weekend!

Happy weekend!!

DH is working overtime again today. There is talks that maybe they will work tomorrow too. I'm actually hoping he won't get asked. The kids get to see very little of him during the week. We pick him up from work, eat dinner and then he goes to his dad's house to check on him just about every night.
And the kids want to go to the M & M Store and the Coca Cola Store that is on the Strip tomorrow. We've been to both places with the kids when we visited here in 2007 and they both really loved it.

Last night was movie night at DS's school. They showed Madagascar 2 on a big screen outside on the playground. They also had pizza, popcorn, candy, and drinks for sale. So we brought lawn chairs and drinks in a cooler and ate dinner there and watched the movie. Lots of families showed up. It was a lot of fun. They have a huge fall fest planned for in a few weeks. The kids can't wait to go.

slo I woke up with a headache too. It's just too dry here. Hope you're feeling better.

mac Looks like you've made a lot of progress at home. Hope you get packed soon!

irish dancer Congrats to your DD's team.

paint I haven't been able to get into that show either. I found it just really DUMB!

hersey I need to get shots for us and FIL too. Thanks for the reminder.

Time for lunch here. I am so behind schedule here today. Hunter had an awful bloody nose we were dealing with. It went on for almost an hour.

Afternoon =) Last night was my high school's football game against crosstown "rivals". They always are horrible, but they are South and we are Central so we must be rivals....:confused3 I don't get it. Left the game early (it was 34-0 by half time) and went to P.F Changs with two friends...at 9:30pm. Delish chicken lo mein! Got up for another volunteering meeting this morning (signed up to call Bingo at the Sunrise by my house every Saturday from 6-8pm) and then ran at the gym. Got two 18th birthdays to go to tonight and a full day of work tomorrow. Yay for having a weekend...? Hahah.

slo Glad to hear Katie is doing better! I'm really excited about the volunteering. Even after my course is done I'm probably going to keep going. I've only gone once and I already love it. The kids are great, and I can't wait to call Bingo!! =)

paintnolish I've applied to University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities and Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant (about 4 hours). I'll probably go to Minnesota though. I'm either going into Sports Management or Photography. Two very different fields, but I can't decide yet. Doubling will add an extra year to college because of how different they are =(

Crissup I love 5 Guys!!! Best burgers and fries around. It's about a 20 minute drive for me, but its totally worth it. When my younger brother and I go to lunch together we either go there or Chipolte.

irish dancer I hope you daughter's team continues to do their best in their games! What position does she play? I'm won't be able to do the CP for another 2 years due to rules at the colleges I am looking at and can't wait. I couldn't imagine being 8 and having to wait at least 10 years!

AH! I just heard the words Disney World on the TV downstairs. They are in Disney for what is probably a repeat Americas Funniest Home Videos. Off to watch or maybe one of the Travel Channel shows I have on DVR...I need my Disney fix now.

I'm doing a quick drive-by today :car:

I need to go wake up Katie and get her ready for her 6yr old pictures today.
This won't be easy, because we were out until 12:45am last night:rolleyes:

Thanks for all the "feel better" wishes :goodvibes
I still do have my headache, but it's not as bad.
I kept taking Excedrin yesterday every 3 hours, and I will probably do the same today. Hopefully, it'll be gone by tomorrow {{fingers crossed}}

I'm off to Sears website to pick out the background I want today.
Katie is wearing her BiddyTwin dress - the old one, not the new one. This is my favorite dress in her closet, and I thought it would be perfect for her to wear today :thumbsup2

Have a great day everyone!!!

good sunday morning chicagoland homies.

it is church day.............
will have your backs covered.

slo, i wish that headache would go away.
have you on my prayer list.

i have to do lots of stuff today and tomorrow.
packing is one of the things on my list.

my house is so spiffy clean right now i hate to leave it.
i can imagine what it will look like when i return.....:rolleyes1

i won't be on much today and tomorrow.
i really have to put the nose to the grind and get shaking on preparations for the trip.

i will come by and send out my goodbyes when i leave.

John I have been thinking about getting a GPS so we can drive downtown. I usually need someone to navigate so I can negotiate the walkers and buses goofy cabs. It sounds like you found some great bargins. How is CarollAnn doing?

Younger DD is terrible with directions and CarolAnnC is always worried that she'll get lost. However, she bought herself a GPS a year back and she's going places that I have to look up. LOL!

Carol is doing well. She's had a problem lately with low iron that she needs to track down, but otherwise, she's a trooper (as long as she gets shot in the knee every 4 months). LOL!

They should post some sort of sign I think at the Int'l terminal for AA to proceed to the regular terminal.

To be fair, my reservation always says terminal 3, but when you know the airport as well as most of us in Chicagoland do, we just tend to assume it will be term 5.

We have a place very similar to 5 Guys called Meatheads. It is really good! I love those fresh cut fries! Never heard of the pierogi place, but I'll have to check it out. The kids are pierogi fiends! I have to make two boxes or dh and I don't get any!

There's a Meatheads in front of the Whole Foods at 75th and Rt.59 in Naperville. I tried it, but don't remember too much about it. I do remember it was tasty, and CarolAnnC loved the hot dog because it came on what she refers to as a "normal" hot dog bun. I've tried to point out to her that when 95% of the country slices them sideways, slicing them vertically so they look like a folded slice of white bread just isn't "normal".

When my younger brother and I go to lunch together we either go there or Chipolte.

I'm just not a huge Chipolte fan. Too much rice for me, takes away too much flavor. Sk8Leigh is the big Chipolte fan. ;)
