Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi all my Chicago friends! Hope you are all well, and enjoying this pleasant weather here.

We were up at Doorway to Dreams in Woodfield Mall today at their two year anniversary party. Some nice little giveaway items, and a tasty buffet. Mickey and Minnie were there and several nice Disney promo flix.

Geffric, when do you leave for your WDW trip? Kristen and I leave Thur Oct 8 for four nights. Would like to meet up with you if possible - we have tix for MNSSHP on Friday 10/9.

Take care all....

America's Thrillmakers: Walt Disney World
This fascinating study of the rides at Florida's Walt Disney World
focuses not on the mechanics involved, but rather on the thought and
imagination behind the attractions and participants' reactions to
them. Designers talk about how they dream up the state-of-the-art
rides, and testers take a spin---as do cameras, for a vicarious
thrill. Also examined is the setup preceding each one that's meant to
subliminally prep patrons as they wait in line. Rides include the
Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Test Track, Splash Mountain,
Dinosaur and Mission: Space.

more than 3,000 VIP’s invited to a 50th anniversary celebration of
Walt Disney’s first theme park, the catering team at Walt Disney World
kicks into action
to make sure it’s a party worthy of the Disney name. On the menu are
such delectable treats as Mongolian Beef, Shrimp with Crab Claws, Two
Terrific Tacos, and a Butterfinger Cheesecake that would do Mickey
proud. But as the clock ticks down to the big event, the team has a
lot of challenges to deal with — including a brewing storm that
threatens to rain on Mickey’s parade!

Thankfully, I was able to go there as a kid myself, about 60 years ago, as a parent, about 25 years ago, and this year, as a granddad. It is so sad kids in the future will not be able to enjoy these fun times. :sad1:

DIS meet? Chicago DIS meet? It has been a long time, a REAL long time since we had one of our big, old time meets. I'm game.

How is everyone after the storms last night?
Anyone have damage?
They looked like they were going to slam right into us, so I took blankets and flashlights to the basement - just in case. They ended up blowing around us, and we never had to worry about it - thank God!!!! :)

Yesterday was a filled day.
We went to the mall to get Katie's pictures taken - which turned out well:thumbsup2. Then we ran some errands, and after we came home, my in-laws came over for dinner. It was a good day!!!!:)

Mac - Thanks for the prayers :) Headache is feeling a little better today :thumbsup2

Crissup - My GPS has opened alot of doors for me too. If it weren't for the GPS, I never would have gone to any of The DIS meets:sad2:

CarolAnn - I need to get to one of those Doorway to Dreams events - they always sound nice :)

Dan - Good to see you!!!!:goodvibes We will have to set up a meet soon - I would love to see everyone!!!!:goodvibes
**I've never been to Kiddieland. I heard they are closing, but I don't know why. Is it due to the economy?

It's time to start the school/work week - have a good day!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: I sure do have a lot of catching up to do around here! :) I want to thank everyone for the bday wishes! We had a fabulous trip full of fun and great memories. We were the AS music family of the day on monday, basically we got balloons and a laminated sign and special gold KTTW cards. That was fun. Tuesday we went to Chef Mickey's for my bday breakfast. I got a cupcake which was delicious! We then went to the MK and MNSSHP which was tons of fun. We rode Splash Mountain 7 times that day! We also were able to do a lot of rides we've never done (Winnie the Pooh, Snow White, Peter Pan) and rides that we rarely do. It was a fun filled day for sure. Wednesday I had my hair and make up trial then to DHS. Thursday we had our planning session which was AMAZING. Let me tell you, that Grand Floridian sure does make some tasty cake! We are having a three tier cake and cutting into all three layers. We figured we are keeping the white chocolate castle cake topper for our anniversary instead of the top layer of cake. The bottom layer is going to be chocolate cake with raspberry mousse and fresh raspberries. the middle layer will be almond cake with ameretto mousse. the top layer will be marble cake with white chocolate mousse. i'm so excited about it!:yay: Friday we went to AK and the hung out at the Boardwalk for a little while. That was great! We stopped by the DVC hut and they set us up for a tour and meeting for Saturday. Sooooooooooo... Saturday we went to Saratoga Springs to meet with someone about the DVC. We talked about the wedding/honeymoon and what not and after much consideration we decided to buy into BLT. It almost doesn't sound real still. We talked with our wedding room block coordinator and she cancelled our CR ressie and made note of our ressie at BLT. So that brings me to now, i'm back to work and my allergies are killin' me. I've decided I'm allergic to Chicago. i want to go back to florida!

Slo ~ glad Katie's pictures went well and you had a good day yesterday. Sorry to hear you had a difficult time getting to the airport the other day.

Mac ~ have fun packing for your trip!

Kim ~ have fun at the party. we had a blast last tuesday!

Crissup ~Was it you that mentioned the Polish restaurant? If so, can you PM the name and approximate address? We've been looking for a good Polish place especially since Bobak's closed.

Princess.Chell ~ Welcome to the thread!:cool1: Sorry to hear your football team lost.

Bunchy ~ hope the kids had fun at the M&M store! I went there a few years back and thought it was pretty neat! :goodvibes

Paint, ID, Leigh, CarolAnnC, and everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!

MJ - another confession here, I have no idea what position my DD plays on her bball team, forward maybe? She's the tallest on the team so I know she usually does the opening tip off.

Bunchkin - movie night sounds fun! Hope DH didn't have to work so he could go with you guys to the M&M store!

didn't know about the anniversary event, did they send anything out about it?

They planned this one themselves, without bringing people in from Florida. Derek and Laurie did a great job with the presentation and gave lots of nice gifts. Nothing huge like a trip or anything, but nice things like totes and such. It was a much smaller crowd, with most of the Improv empty, but it allowed for much more interaction.

Was it you that mentioned the Polish restaurant? If so, can you PM the name and approximate address? We've been looking for a good Polish place especially since Bobak's closed.

It's the Old Town Restaurant in Lemont. Here's their web site...

Hello!!

Sinuses are wrecking havoc with my head. Hunter's too. It is just too dry here and that is part of the problem. Still very hot, 103 today it said on the thermometer on the car's dash.
Cooling off this week though into the 70's and 80's!!!! Thank the LORD!!! :worship:

Hello to all...we are back from our fantastic trip!

Yeah, I actually got on the plane :cool1: The flight out to Reno was perfect, the seatbelt sign came on like once and the pilot said he was sorry for the bumps..umm..what bumps?! The flight back, not so good...it was really rough taking off and then really rough coming down for the landing, too. And, what is up with having to taxi on the ground for a half hour to get to a gate at O'Hare????!

We had a wonderful time out west. It was so good to finally see where Christopher is living (a very nice apt with a very cute little cat!:goodvibes) and working (the studio is everything I know he LOVES!). The weather was perfect, sunny every day and in the mid 80's or so. They had some record highs when we were there, which is okay for us! Beyond Reno (did a slight amount of gambling, and watched a world-record motorcycle jump, and stayed in a gorgeous hotel!), we went to Carson City and then did a tour thing in Virginia City; both were fun. But, the most beautiful scenery was in Lake Tahoe...we took a boat cruise to Emerald Bay on the California side of the lake...absolutely breathtaking!!!:yay: We were very blessed to go on this trip.

I hope all is well with Chicagoland...and those leaving on their Disney trips soon have a GREAT time!!!

Have a good evening, all!

Sicker than a dog here!!! Got to find the digital thermometer, everyone here says I feel like I have a fever. Typical for me. I get more fevers then the kids do.

I started helping out at DS's school today and will do it every Tues morning. I stayed an hour extra today. I went through 3 reams of paper making copies for his teacher. There is hardly any parent volunteering going on here. Unlike at the kid's old schools. :confused3 And here parties are left up to the teacher to be planned. Usually the room moms do that, but out here they don't 'do' room moms.

Donna Good to here you survived the air plane rides!! And I'm glad you all had a good time!

slo Is there any earlier time Steph can do her homework? Maybe being tired is adding to the battle. I know my kids are trying to wind down for the night by 7:30 and doing homework that late would not be good.

Hersey I can box you up some warm air and ship it to you. :thumbsup2
Actually, as of tomorrow it's going to cool down here...finally!!! It will be in the 70's the next couple days, then the 80's for a few days and then back to the 70's!!!!

And again.....Happy travels to all who are leaving!

Hi to everyone else. :wave2:

Time for bed for me. I did not get much sleep last night because I was so stuffy and I imagine tonight will not be any better.

Hey everyone! Yay for senioritis and not getting home till 8 tonight! I still have to write a 2 page paper and read my psychology book for my in class essay tomorrow. But I chose to watch TV (aka spend time with the family), help my younger brother with his homework, and be on here instead, good life choices right? ;) Anyway, um, being a senior is crazy. I've finished applications, but now I'm just waiting, and listening to all my friends talk about apps and essays. Plus club meetings, work, intern, volunteer, homework, spend time with family and friends, and oh sleep. This year is crazier than last! :scared1: I should survive though...I just gotta keep dreaming of Disney... =)

Crissup & Sk8Leigh No rice is the way to go. Or light rice in the burrito bowl, if I'm hungry enough. I normally stick with two tacos.

irish dancer Yah she's probably forward or center. I was always so jealous of the tall girls. They got the most fun position on the floor because they got to be in the middle of the action. I didn't like playing guard; I wanted to be "down low". They put me on the wing a lot because even though I short I could go in there with the tall girls, plus I could shoot outside and throw off the defense. Fun times...

disneygal922 Your trip to Disney sounds amazing, as does your wedding plans! I want to either get married or honeymoon (or both) at Disney. Congrats on the DVC!

Everyone going to Disney...have a great trip!!! Maybe bring some warmer weather. I froze in gym class today!!!
