Calling all Chicago DISers #3

My girls had such a great day at school yesterday :thumbsup2

Katie went off without a tear - which was good for both of us.
If she would have cried, than I would have cried, and then I would of got a headache, and that would have ruined my day :upsidedow I'm so glad that her best friend, and our neighbor, is not only starting school too, but also in her class - it makes things much easier for her!!!!

Stephanie had a rough start to her day - she missed her bus - not her fault:sad2: The bus was a little early, and Stephanie was running to the corner, and the bus never even slowed up at the stop to see if anyone was coming. So Kevin put her in the car and took her to another stop - we weren't happy:sad2: Stephanie told her that she needs to stop at our stop, and she apologized to her, which is good. Hopefully today the driver will slow up and not race through the subdivision.

Today is Katie's last day of being 5, which I can't believe.
Tomorrow she'll be starting a second hand, if that makes any sense. When she turned 5, I told her that she's a whole hand now, and that made her feel so big. Now she's going onto the second hand - time flies!!!!!!:guilty:

Thanks to all for the hugs and nice comments in regards to my Katie starting kindergarten - I love you all!!!! :grouphug::love::goodvibes

I gotta run now and attempt to get Katie up - I hope she gets up as easily as she did yesterday {{fingers crossed}}

Have a great day today!!!

Morning guys! Wow, I can't believe it's Thursday already!!

My new babysitting job for my nephew is in flux already. DSis's exDH is not following the plan. They go back to court Monday for other issues, she's going to add this to the list of issues. Hopefully they'll get it all ironed out. This has happened before, his mom usually babysits but when he has a fight with her he asks DSis to find someone else. Well, he and his mom make up and then he wants to go back to using her. I'm sure it's because she comes to his house and I seriously doubts he pays her. He'd have to bring DNephew here and pay me.

Not much else going on here, just trying to get the kids back into a schedule. They are not liking the earlier bedtime, we got pretty lax on that this summer.

slo - so glad the girls had a great first day. Shame on Stephanie's bus driver, hopefully she actually stopped today!

Bunchkin - the only school shopping I have left is to get DD12 shoes. That is my most dreaded part of back to school shopping. She's in adult size shoes now and between the prices and styles it makes it very difficult for us to agree on something.

disneygal - your trip sounds great! You could spend Wednesday night at DTD, do a little shopping and then check out one of the restaurants. Raglan Road has music/dancer at 9p I think.

mac - have a safe trip to St. Louis and enjoy your time with your parents.

Becky - good to "see" you around again! We start school next week too. Best of luck to your DS on wrestling, I'd be nervous too!

Tiggerrn - your plan looks good. I'd love to do the Segway Tour someday. We did MNSSHP last year, it was so much fun!
*I'm another one that wasn't sad when the kids went off to school, they were all happy which I'm sure made it easier.

paint - wow $100 for a textbook! Did you look on eBay for it? I know on a budget thread on TGM someone recommended a site for books, I'll try to look that up. Might be worth checking out.

:wave2: to everyone else!

Well, I've got to get the girls out of bed. In addition to the earlier bedtime they need to get up before 9a!

Have a great day everyone! :flower3:

Cleaned, laundry, unpacked some more....fun filled day!!

Lauren's new friend that she met at orientation at the school is coming over on Saturday. I'm really happy for her! She and this new friend seem to get along well.
Lauren decorated her room today. I get her Tiger Beat mag on occasion. Anyone get that as a kid?? Well anyway, she took out the mini posters that were in it and decorated her walls. All girls, no guys. So I'm fine with that!!! :goodvibes

I can remember decorating my walls with posters too. In fact, I still have a picture of my room from when I was a senior in high school. The walls were LOADED with posters. There was almost no visible wall!! :rotfl: All great 80's bands!! :rockband:

irish dancer I understand about the shoe issue! My DD seems to go through them like water and she is in an adult size too. But she has foot pain issues so she tends to need comfy=expensive shoes. I just found her a pair of Sketchers at Kohls that are casual and yet supportive enough. It's hard to buy casual/dress shoes for her without them killing her feet.

slo Chalk up the bus driver's mistake to it being her first day back too! :thumbsup2 I hope Katie is adjusting well to her new schedule.

Today is Katie's 6th birthday :cake:
She is so bummed out that she has to be at school today (I think it's because we had a family day at the zoo on Stephanie's bday). So I told her that I would go to Dunkin Donuts and get some doughnuts, and then bring them to her school to give to her class - she liked that idea :thumbsup2 Then tonight we are taking her to Texas Roadhouse for dinner - this was her idea. She hasn't eatin there yet, and she really really wants to - so she's excited about that!!!!:) So, she'll have a good day, even though she's at school :thumbsup2

I had another issue with Stephanie's bus yesterday. The transportation center told me to have Stephanie out 10min early, and the second we got outside, the bus was already coming. If we would have been 20 seconds later, we would have never known the bus was here, and Stephanie would have been waiting outside forever:headache::headache::headache: So, to make a long story short, I called the transportation center, and after a lot of discussion (they just didn't want to be helpful. I told them my daughter is not standing outside on a corner for 15-20 minutes every day just so their driver can come whenever she wants) they called the driver and got her exact time. So hopefully, today will be better {{fingers crossed}}.

ID - I"m sorry that the babysitting is not working out real well:guilty: I hope it all works out, because you sounded happy about babysitting your nephew.

Bunchkin - I'm so glad that Lauren made a new friend :goodvibes
**I had tons of posters on my walls too ::yes:: I had a Wham wall, a Michael Jackson wall, a Miami Vice wall, and then sections dedicated to Michael J. Fox, Duran Duran, the oldest boy from Growing Pains (I can't think of his name) and so many others. I remember it all like yesterday :)

Well, I'm off to get this day started
Have a good Friday everyone!!

Morning! I got awoken to the shrill beeping of my CO2 detectoer. Only, I thought it was the battery in the smoke alarm and replaced it.I couldn't figure out why it was still beeping! Oh, and during this time the dogs were barking like crazy! Anyway, I could not go back to sleep, so I am up baking muffins. Hopefully I can get a nap in before work tonight. My 5 a.m. wake up will catch up with me later!
Bunchkin- Glad dd is making friends so quickly! Tiger Beat had me cracking up. My walls were covered, too, only I used that sticky yellow putty stuff instead of tape...it left greasy marks all over the walls! One of my faves, though, was Corey Haim!
Slo- Hope DD has a great bday. I am sure she'll enjoy her treat. DS prefers Dunkin to Krispy Kreme-he says they are too melty and messy!
ID- XH complains about paying for childcare, too. He asked why I hadn't graduated yet. Umm...I will still need childcare once I do, so what's the big deal? He'd lucky I'll be off all summer so, unlike a lot of other kids, mine won't need care all summer! Grr!
Tig- I'll keep the advice in mind! We had a quiz over the syllabus yesterday, so that seems to be a great start, right? After psch, ab psych, ed psych, and human growth and sexuality, I think I've learned about most things! Gotta' love those required courses.
Everyone else. TGIF! Enjoy the start of the weekend!

Hi guys!! TGIF! Well, it's our last weekend before school starts.......

Today has been a frustrating day. Both girls go to Catholic school, there is no bussing. DS9 goes to public school to get the Spec. Ed, he qualifies for bussing. It has to be one of the most frustrating ordeals! He starts school on Wednesday, we still have not received the info on what time he'll be picked up and dropped off! We have had so many bus issues over the years you'd think I'd be used to it. They are using a new bus co. this year and I had high hopes it would be better. No such luck. I called them today to get his times so I can be sure to have all bases covered for him and the girls. Well, they don't know yet "maybe Monday"! :headache:

DD12 is an altar server at our church. We got the next schedule in the mail today and she really did not luck out this time around. They end up serving 1x a month which is pretty easy unless you get the weekday mass, then you serve every day Mon-Sat at either 6:15a or 8:15a. Well this schedule she has two 7a Sunday masses, an 11:30a Sunday mass and for the third time in the past year a week of 6:15a mass. :faint: We are NOT morning people, the 7a Sundays aren't too bad but to have to be up at 5:30a six days straight and have school/homework will make for one crabby pre-teen. Ugh.

paint - I hope you can get a better night sleep tonight. We had that happen to us with a brand new CO2 dector. We ended up returning it.

slo - Happy Birthday to Katie!!
*I can totally sympathize with your bus issues. Just thinking about it raises my blood pressure. They certainly don't win any customer service awards....

Bunchkin - so glad Lauren is adjusting and finding a new friend.
*Both my DDs rooms are covered in posters too! All girls too for now, they are all Disney Channel stars (Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, etc).

Well, have to run. DH is downtown for a meeting so it just me and the kids for dinner. Think we'll head out to Portillos, yum! Thanks for listening to my vent. Hope everyone has a great weekend! :flower3:

Happy weekend buds!! :sunny:

Temps are supposed to go down here this weekend and possibly thunderstorms. But rain out here only lasts 10-15 minutes, sometimes less!! Crazy, huh? Not like by you guys, where it can rain hard all day and night.

Ok, so on my walls as a teen were: Skid Row, U2, INXS, Motley Crue, lots of pictures my first boyfriend drew for me (he was/is an artist... famous now in a freaky/scary way, but that's a long story not to be shared with the faint of heart!!!! No kidding!!) BON JOVI (of course!), lots of Rolling Stone mag covers. I could go on and on, the walls were covered!!

irish dancer No bus service here. We are too close for DD's school. Way too close for DS...it's across the street!! LOL! Hope you get your bus schedule on Monday.

slo Happy Birthday to Katie!!! :cake: I hope dinner was great!
It always takes a day or two to really get the bus times down. When they figure these times out at the beginning of the year they really are an appox. time. Our kids times were always off compared to what they originally said they should be, but after the first few days it fell in place with the new time. It all depends on traffic, load times, etc.

paint I remember that yellow putty stuff! ACK! I could never use that stuff in my room. When my brother moved out I got his room and his room had dark wood paneling on the walls (gotta love 70's decor!!). So that yellow stuff never worked.

I should run! It's my turn at Animal Crossing!!!

What happened to our heat???????????
70 degrees is just not right for this time of year.
Heck, I wore long sleeves yesterday - it's just not right!!!!!

So, Katie had a great day yesterday - thanks for the bday wishes!!!!:goodvibes
Not only did I take the doughnuts to school, but I also bought Dora napkins, and a button that said it was her 6th bday, and took those to school with the doughnuts - she loved it!!!!:goodvibes I also had a balloon waiting for her at work, for when she came home from school. She enjoyed dinner at Texas Roadhouse, and then after dinner we had a bday cake for her, and she was able to open her gift - a new Razor scooter:woohoo::yay::banana:(that's her). She's been wanting one of these for a year now, so she was really thrilled with the gift!!!!

paint - How annoying about the CO detector:headache: I hope it was able to stay quiet last night.

ID - How frustrating with your bus situation :headache:I hope it all works out soon for you :wizard::wizard:
**I wouldn't love that server schedule either :sad2:Can you ask the church office to only schedule your DD for a certain Mass?? This is what I did, so Stephanie only serves at the Sat 4:30pm Mass (she's scheduled only once a month, but because kids never show up, she literally serves almost every weekend). You should call and ask, and see what they say.

Bunchkin - Your walls and my walls were very different - isn't that funny!!!! I really want to hear that artist story sometime - sounds interesting!!!! :)

Well, I need to go get ready for work - I such a love/hate relationship with working on Saturdays. I hate it, because I naturally want to be home, but I love it, because it gives me an extra day to get things done.

Have a good day!!!

Alex's favorite thing is tape on the walls with his posters and it drives me crazy. I almost would rather thumbtacks.

Slo WOW Katie is 2 hands now. The time flies  I hope she liked her birthday dinner. I don't think we have a Texas roadhouse around here.:confused3

We are heading out in a bit to do school clothes shopping. Sounds like fun doesn't it? Alex has been in adult sizes for a while now. I can't get used to the prices. It is so hard to find something for him that doesn't look old or like a gangbanger. No pants down under his butt thankyou. Thankfully he is not into that style:worship:. I hate it when I see boys or men dressed like that.

I think Alex is finally out of the shower and might actually be dressed.:woohoo: time to go shopping.:headache:

DD's new friend is over today. Every thing is going well and they seem to really get along well. :goodvibes

DH is at his dad's and running errands.

I'm super tired. I only got 3 1/2 hours of sleep last night. I have become some what of an insomniac since I moved here. :confused3

slo Good to hear that Katie had a good birthday. :cutie:
I love those temps!! Wish I was there!!
I used to go to a LOT of concerts when I was a teen and in my early 20's, so most of my posters were from people I saw. Not any I can think of that were of an actor/show/movie related. You made me laugh when you said you had a Wham poster!!! :rotfl2:

Hersey I've been clothes shopping with you....and Alex is too picky!!

Evening all.
Slo, Happy Belated birthday to Katie!!:cheer2:
Bunchkin, glad to hear Lauren has made a new friend out there.
Posters on the wall....Hmmmm. I think I had Sean Cassidy, and that teen crowd. Guess it would've been Willie Aames (from Eight is Enough)and I don't know who else. Bands were Rush, Cars, Genesis, Bob Seger, Journey, Foreigner (sp?), and then to Countrify it a bit, Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, and Kenny Rogers. What a mix! LOL
Paint, hope you got that detector problem worked out.
Hersey, I am so glad to hear that Alex doesn't do the pants down thing! I am so tired of seeing kids' underwear! I look at bare butts all day at work!:scared1:The last place I need to see any more butt crack is in school.
Well everyone. Off to bed here. Work in the morning.
Later.

Hi everyone! :wave2:

I see everyone is getting ready for back to school, or already started back! No back to school here. Actually first time in many many years, since DD's are now graduated and out of college. So the first time since the 1980's we have nobody heading back! Very strange feeling...though I do not miss filling out the FAFSA, LOL!

I hope to head over to this thread more often, to keep up with all of my Chicago friends.. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend! :)

We had a good day yesterday.
We picked my friend, and her DD, up from the airport, and then my friend took us out for Mexican, which was yummy. Then I just relaxed at home, and then visited with my neighbors for awhile - it was a nice day!!!:)

HERSEY - I"m glad Alex doesn't like the low low low pants look - that's such a terrible look!!!:crazy2:
*Thanks for the bday wish for Katie :)

Bunchkin - I"m glad Lauren and her new friend are getting along well:)
**I didn't just have a Wham poster - I had a Wham wall :rotfl: I would get the teen magazines, and cut out every little picture of the celebrities that I loved. My poor mom had so much tape on her walls - God bless her!!!!:goodvibes

TTTTiiigerrnnnnn - Thanks for the bday wish for Katie :)
**I used to love the show is Eight is Enough :)We had a lot of good shows when we were kids!!!

CarolAnn - :wave2:

I guess it's time to go get this week started
Have a great day today everyone!!

Hi all! Sounds like school is starting well for everyone (except for bussing issues -- is that getting cleared up, slo?). Just wanted to give you all an update -- Greg's band won First in the State Battle of the Bands contest at the State Fair in Springfield on Saturday. We're so proud of the 7 young men in their band! If any of you would like to check out The Con Men, you can go to youtube.com/theconmenband.

Greg started his senior year today -- he's very excited about it, I'm not so excited about him going away to college next year. Andy starts 8th grade Wednesday -- he has had anxiety issues and missed tons of school last year, we're hoping that this year is so much better (after doctors, counseling, working with the school, changing classes, etc).

Hersey -- glad your son doesn't like that plumber look -- we just want to yell at kids to pull their pants up!

Have a great evening and try to find something to do when the kids are gone (yeah right, like that's a problem...).

- Erin

Hi All!

I saw this thread...is it too late to jump in??

Welcome, Beastlover! I'm brand new to the board as well, and in Crystal Lake.

- Erin

Cool!! Im in McHenry...not far from you!

Ive been away for a while, and just trying to get back into the swing here!! Its good to be back!

Ugh. Our first BTS Monday. We survived! It wasn't too bad, but spelling lists came home-sure sign of a "real" school week!
Well, last weekend wasn't too profitable. It was pretty quiet at the restaurant. No work next weekend for me. We are heading to TX to visit some on DH's friends. I've never been to TX so it should be a fun but short trip!
Bunchkin- Glad dd's already made friends! That is great!
CarolAnn- Trying filling out FAFSA as a married person. It is so complicated!
Slo-Glad dd had a fun bday! My dd had a Dora party when she was 5. Enjoy it. Dora is sooo uncool these days!
ID- We live too close for bus service so I walk or drive the kids. When the weather is bad at least I can still wear my pjs since I don't get out of the car!
Tig- Your bare butts comment made me crack a smile. Haha. Pun intended!
Hersey- DS unintetionally has falling down pants. When I tell them to pull them up he jokingly says that is how the "teenage kids" wear them! Then he does some kind of ganster walk. Lovely.
Erin-Where does you ds want to go to school? Study?
Beast- Welcome! My sister recently moved up to your neck of the woods!
Time to get some rest. I have class all day tomorrow and then we are celebrating dh's bday! Night, all! :)

First day of school here too!
DD looks as if she'll have a full year. She joined choir again, they are doing a Beauty and the Beast show she's looking forward to.
DS's teacher seems nice. And his class is smaller than past years.
With both schools everyone seems to be too close for bus service, so everyone walks, bikes or gets driven.

paint Sorry to hear it was a slow weekend at work. Enjoy TX, it's really warm there. Be prepared!

:welcome: to Erin and Beastlover!!
We like new people!! :goodvibes

slo A Wham wall??!!?? Now I'm scared!!!

Morning all. Last free day here. Taking the kids to their last swim lesson and enjoying the pool for the (probable) final time. The rest of the week/end doesn't look too nice. Pool closes Labor Day.
School starts tomorrow for us. Only half day tomorrow. Till 11 if that counts for a half day. :rolleyes1
OK started this in the morning, now it's dinner time.:laughing:I need to get food on the table. I'll come back later all.:flower3:
