Calling all Chicago DISers #3

I can't believe it's Thursday already :upsidedow

OH...look at the new smilie:littleangel:
How long have we had this?
I'll feel embarrassed if this has been there for weeks, and I've just seen it today.

TTTiiigggernnnnn - What are some of the side affects of that vaccine? With you being a nurse, I"m sure you hear more than what we do. I would be very interested in hearing more about it ::yes::

esbrick - I"m sorry your plans feel through:guilty:Good luck on your projects:wizard:

Mac - Have a good time!!! :wave2:

ID - I"m glad the shaving lesson went well :) I am going to wait until Stephanie asks - that would be best ::yes:: It's weird to be even having this conversation, because I can't believe she's old enough for me to be having this conversation :guilty:

Kim - The type of electric razor I'm thinking of wouldn't be painful, it would just not be as close of a shave as regular razor (which I wouldn't care about, because no one should be touching her legs anyway). If I gave her a regular razor 2 thing could happen...
1 - She'll take FOREVER in the shower, and I don't want to waste the water (our water bill is already $100 a month)
2 - She'll rush it, because she doesn't want to do it, and cut herself all up, and then complain for days about how her cuts hurt (I just don't want to deal with that).
I'm actually thinking about buying an electric razor for myself, because there are many times I don't have time to mess with shaving in the shower, and I could shave with the electric razor at work if I had to. Shaving is such a pain!!!!

HERSEY - Our tomatoes aren't doing as well as normal either :sad2:We need heat!!!! :sunny:

Well, I must go to work - lots to do!!!
Have a great day!!!

I just booked two ADR's for Kouzinna's - Cat Cora's restaurant replacing Spoodles. The CM didn't have much information the specific times they would be open for breakfast and lunch but they are booking according to the Spoodles hours. I got supper on the day we arrive, 9/25 at 6:25 pm and breakfast on Monday, 9/28 at 10:30 am.

Lori

My name is Angie and I live in the western suburbs of Chicago. I mostly lurk on this board. I noticed this post last week and told my Mom about it. This morning she tried to make an ADR for our upcoming trip in late September/early October and the DVC told her that they are not going to make ADR's for this resturant until Aug 15th. :confused3 I just thought everyone should know this and also wonderinghow you got your ADR.

I am not looking forward to the shaving thing with Lauren. Someone mentioned the Smooth Away, well I hate that thing. I ended up with my skin feeling like I ran sand paper over it, and it hurt for days.

Kim mentioned boys being no treat either, and that is for sure. Kevin has his days that I swear it is PMS too. When my nephew went through it,we called it Pre Man Syndrome.

We are going to Great America on Tuesday. Nathan and Lauren both have a free ticket, and Nathan has another one from a math fund raiser he did. That one is not labeled as a "kid" ticket so we are hoping to use it for Kevin.

Took Kevin to the orthodontist yesterday, and they said he needs braces because of his over-bite. Since it will cost us $5000, we are going foe a second opinion (we have been told by our dentist that she does not think his bite is that bad) to see if they agree and if so, what they charge. THe reason we went is he has a baby tooth, with no tooth under it. Well that tooth has started to sink so it needs to be removed.

Today I am going to my grandparents for supper, and hopefully Mat will be there too so we can spend some more time with him before he leaves on Sunday. He came home on leave last Saturday, got to spend a couple hours with him on Monday, but since this may be his last leave before deployment, we are taking all we can get.

Oh, our tomatoes are not too great either. I agree with Slo, we need some heat for them.

How is everyone vegetable garden doing? Mine is slow going a tomatoes are pitiful. I know it seems early but I planted before Memorial day.

Horrid! Horrid! Horrid! But my weeds and trees and bushes are taking over my yard. They are all doing great. I think I have had 6 cherry tomatoes maybe. I picked 2 puny tomaotes last night. The basil in the pots is doing pretty good. Ithink I might harvets zuchini and cukes in December.

Angie -
Welcome! Come visit us oftern! I would call again and see what happens. I called on the 24th and the CM told me that was the first day they were taking reservations. I was able to get the days and times that I wanted. There are posts on the restaurant board where others get ADR's too. I think I even read that the soft opening for the restaurant is in August 15th. Try again! Good luck!
Lori

momto1 thank you for the advice! my mom decided to try again when she was making reservations for our rooms for the night of September 24th ( for the night we fly into Orlando)and we got a ADR to Cat Cora's. We also got a two bedroom for OKW that night, but we might have to switch rooms the next day so we can be near the Hospitality House.

Good Afternoon Everyone! :flower3: I started a post earlier but then had to attend a meeting. When I came back Internet Explorer had gone down and I lost it.:sad2: ah well! Here I am now! My eye is feeling much much MUCH better. Thanks for all the PD, it really helped. I hope I never get another one of those. Man did it hurt. Today is my friday I have off tomorrow and monday. I can't believe I'm already using my last 2 summer days. where has the time gone? I'm starting to form a list of things I need for our planning session and for things to do during our trip. ooo ooo i forgot to tell y'all... I bought our MNSSHP tix yesterday:ccat: I'm so excited to go to my first 'party'. I haven't decided if i'm going to dress up? any suggestions? i know mike wont. maybe i should just make myself a cute tshirt? what do you think?

Hersey ~ our garden has not been overly fruitful this year.:sad2: we've only had one small cucumber and 2 bowls of grape tomatoes. we haven't had any big tomatoes (i think they are big boys we planted?) or any plum tomatoes come this year. dad and i keep checking and the plants look good and there are a few green tomatoes on there but they are just taking an awfully long time to turn to red. we don't know why:confused3

Slo ~ your post is the first i noticed the :littleangel: i don't think it's been around very long b/c it's right near the :flower3: smilie i always use and i never noticed it until today! unless my eye problem was causing temporary selective blindness.

Angie ~ :welcome: to the thread!

Momto1 ~ i've never tried planting zucchini (maybe next year) but i love cucumbers. last year ours did really REALLY well. this year not so much:sad1:

ID ~ :wave2:

Anybody see Paint lately? i hope everything is ok, she hasn't been around in a while. :confused3

everyone ~ have a wonderful day.

Hey, all...

We were up in the Dells this past weekend...I'd like to say for fun, but we had yet another death in the family..my uncle passed away. My uncle was 87 and lived a good life; he had a farm up there and we used to go to Baraboo, WI for family reunions. It was nice to see all the family again, but I think we really, really have lost enough relatives this year. :(

MAC...hope your trip to Macinac is awesome!!! I remember when we went there, I LOVED it!

HERSEY...I hope it warms up so those tomatoe plants get going...there is *nothing* as good as the taste of home-grown tomatoes!!

SLO...I am glad to read you are busy at the store again!

SOX FANS!!!...did you guys here that today is Mark Buehrle day in Chicago?? What an awesome game he pitched, and then broke a record to top it off!! GO SOX!! (sorry KIM and other CUBBIE fans!)

Shout out to ALL...have a great night!

Hello all.

I've been lurking here for a while. Erika412 is my DW.

I wanted to pass along the angel smiley story that I saw posted on the DisDads group:

I don't know if any of you saw Noah's Wish TR. I'll give you the background. Taken from -->http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2031190 There are also pictures of the family and Noah on the 1st page of the TR.

It is finally time to start my own pre-trip report!!

Cast Members:

Myself, Nichole aka Mom (33)
My hubby, Brad (34)
Daughter, Kailyn (8)
Son, Joshua (6)
Wish son, Noah (3)

A bit of background for you as to why Noah has been granted this wish trip. During a routine ultrasound during my pregnancy, we discovered that Noah would be born with a cleft lip and palate. He was also measuring unusually small. So I had an amnio done and we recieved the devastating news that no parent ever wants to hear. Our son has a rare genetic condition; a piece of his chromosome #12 is missing. The condition is so rare, that very little information could be found, except for a couple of babies who were stillborn. So we were given the choice to terminate, or the bleak prognosis of a likely stillbirth. Choosing to carry our boy to term, we prepared ourselves for the worst.

But God had other plans for our little one, and he came into the world kicking and screaming. On day 2 he began losing the battle to breath and was intubated in NICU. After 2 weeks, he was able to breath on his own, and at four weeks, we took our little 4lb peanut home.

His chromosome deletion has caused many health issues. Developmental delays, no oral feeds, multiple aspiration pneumonias, severe GERD, sleep apnea requiring nighttime oxygen, asthma, failure to thrive, mild heart issues (PDA/PFO), ketogenic hypoglycemia, fat malabsorbtion requiring a central line and TPN feeds, multiple line sepsis, blood clots and bone infections...the list goes on. Our doctor always calls our son "the boy with 9 lives" and he truly has narrowly escaped death's doorstep numerous times. Our scariest experience was this past february where the flu combined with a fungal infection caused him to code and he spent 18 days in PICU intubated and on the oscillator. He's had 16 surgeries for his cleft lip, g-tube, fundoplication, many central lines, ear tubes, stoma revision etc. This past spring he was also diagnosed with yet another genetic syndrome, called San Filippo Syndrome, which is a brain degenerative disease. This means that eventually he will begin to regress, and life expectancy is usually early teens.

Now at 3 years old, weighing just over 14lbs, he is our little miracle...the joy and sunshine of my life!!

This little boy has been through hell. The last few days he was in the hospital fighting for his life again. Yesterday he lost his fight and passed away to join God.

My DD is the same age as Noah and has been through a lot... not as much as this family. It really hit home that life is precious and you really cannot take your life or your kids for granted.

There is a donation being made in his name to the Give Kids The World Village. GKTW is right outside Disney and many wish families stay here for free. You can read more about the donation here.--> http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2243804

EDIT::: Also FYI the new Smiley on the DIS is in honor of Noah.

Hi everyone!

I ask if I can join and then disappear! We had out of town guests for 8 days. They left yesterday and I'm still recouping! The most fun was going to the Cubs game last Friday. Now I'm trying to catch up from page 82.

Then on the 7th we're going away for 10 days (no, not to the best place ever, but to DH's parents' house. I guess I can't say anything more about that since he lurks here ;)) The exciting news is that our ADR window comes up during our trip. I think we've settled on restaurants, and I put that in my PTR.

Sorry this is all about me, but I also want to update Megan's carepage since she just had another blood draw.

At least I'm caught up now!

Kim Preventing HPV is not the issue with the vaccine. It is the side affects being reported from the vaccine itself. Important thing to remember is that it only protect against certain types of HPV you may still get cervical cancer.
I hear ya, Hersey. I know it's not a be-all-end-all cure and, I read about the side effects and limitations, too. DDs OTHER arm was actually still more sore today from her tetanus, than the HPV. I KNOW, this is an early report (from just me) and, minor at best. I understand everyone's positions and respect them as well. ;):thumbsup2

Touching! LOL I hear ya there! Kelly already takes forever - not so much IN the shower but, after as well! :rolleyes1 $100/month?!?! for water? Yikes!:scared1: I was upset that our water bill for 6 months was nearly $200 recently - You have the tops on that dept.! I'll give you that! :sad2:

Remember, electric means plugging the thing in, finding an outlet (away from water - good for your office, I imagine) but, I really think these lady razors are much more comfortable for women. ;) Quick, fast, careless, or otherwise. I haven't had a nick since I last used my DHs BIC shaver! What a mistake!

I hate shaving, too! Let's move to Europe!

Hi Angie! Welcome!! Maybe book your ADR directly or, online, and not thru DVC?? :confused3 Welcome, again!

Kim mentioned boys being no treat either, and that is for sure. Kevin has his days that I swear it is PMS too. When my nephew went through it,we called it Pre Man Syndrome.
THAT is a funny PMS description for boys!

THe reason we went is he has a baby tooth, with no tooth under it. Well that tooth has started to sink so it needs to be removed.
No way to wait until it falls out? Kelly has the same problem, with a missing adult tooth and, cosmetic dentistry and braces were already suggested. I'm not happy about that but, I'll do whatever I can to make HER future dentist visits less often and easier. My son had a root canal - pulpotomy, I think (for babies - back then - at 5) and a spacer for years after that, until the molor came in! Ok, besides HPV for girls, can we talk dentistry here?! My kids brush, floss and rinse everyday, twice a day, that I know of - more than me! WHY are the dentist bills so high?!?! Good Lord, they haven't had a cavity for a while! And, sealants? Health care and MAINTENANCE is SOO expensive and, we have insurance! :sad2:

and hopefully Mat will be there too so we can spend some more time with him before he leaves on Sunday. He came home on leave last Saturday, got to spend a couple hours with him on Monday, but since this may be his last leave before deployment, we are taking all we can get.
God Bless Mat!! Thank him, from me and my family! :grouphug:

So sorry, Donna!

I'll DISregard this, thank you! :rotfl: (I THINK I gave him his 'due' when he did it, tho ;) )

Hello all.

I've been lurking here for a while. Erika412 is my DW.

I wanted to pass along the angel smiley story that I saw posted on the DisDads group:
Thank you for sharing that, altho terribly sad. :sad1::littleangel: I will think of Noah whenever I use that smiley - for him! :littleangel: as well as several others DISers I know I have passed on as well. May they ALL be remembered here and, happy in Heaven! :littleangel:

Thank you again mp!

:surfweb:

I"m tired after a long day yesterday.
After work (about 6:20pm) the family and I went to Gordons, Sams Club, Culvers, raced to the other side of the county to pick up some work for a client, and then go to where the client is hanging the items to take a look around to see how I should frame them, and then we finally made it home at around 10pm. I was pooped, and fell asleep the minute my head hit the pillow :faint:

I mentioned this on facebook, so bare with me facebook friends.....
I bought a HUGE box of Bounce sheets at Sams Club, and they were so fragrant that they smelled up the whole car and even dried out Kevins contacts. By the time we got home, my headache, that I had all day, went from sorta bad to EXTREME  I was about ready to throw these things out the window - it was terrible!!!! I now woke up with this same headache, which is very frustrating!!! I sure hope it somewhat goes away, because I don't want to go through another day with a headache:headache:

I woke up this morning to the security company calling about the store AGAIN:headache: I've been having alot of problems with the backdoor, and it's so frustrating. The door pops open and then the alarm goes off. The landlord sent someone to fix the door, and then the alarm company came to readjust the alarm, and the door still popped open this morning. When I got to the store, the police were inside. The town is going to start charging me $300 each time this happens, and I'm sure I'll get the first bill next week. I sure hope the landlord takes responsibilty for this, because I shouldn't have to pay it:sad2:

Angie - :welcome:
Please come visit anytime!!!!

piglet - Stephanie needs braces too, and the $$$ really scares me:scared1:. We haven't been to an Orthodontist yet, but we were recommended which one to go to from our dentist. You'll have to let us know what the second opinion tell you.

momto1 - Luckily, my weeds have calmed down, but my bushes and trees are growing like crazy. They will need a lot of pruning in the fall ::yes::

DG - I"m so glad your eye is feeling better!!!:yay:
Have a good day off today - any plans????

Donna - I'm so sorry to hear of your uncle passing away - hugs to you and your family!!!!:grouphug:

middlepat - :welcome:
Please come and visit anytime, and thank you for sharing the story of Noah:littleangel:

erika - So good to see you again!!!! :goodvibes

Kim - I agree, lets move to Europe :car:

It's time to get going to work :car:
Have a good day today everyone!!!
