Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Greetings..

I am back too.. actually got back Sunday night but between laundry and grocery shopping etc not much time..

the trip was great.. we saw U of FL ( which is great) and UCF - which is 70% commuter.. so not for us.. then did the rest of the time at US/IOA and WDW.. Kids had a great time, they went to DTD and other late places.. This is DH's last trip.. he was "parked out" but didn't want to hang at the resort.. his highlight was the meal deal at US/IOA.. i hopped and had a great time.. the drive was long.. we went the 57 way to avoid IN costruction..

Slo- So glad to hear business is improving for you! I was kind of scared to ask since things weren't looking so good last time I was on the thread regularly!
Gef- How'd HP's area look at US/IOA? I am excited about that!
Mac- Did someone say you'd brought fudge?popcorn::
momto1-Well, dh made some sort of a face at someone the other night when I was talking about the trip. I basically told him golf is his thing and he can spend money on it all year. I spend my money in one big chunk. Maybe two!:rotfl2:
Bunchkin- How are the kids adjusting? Also, with that weather, sounds like you can handle WDW in the summer. We went during that heat wave in June and I swear it felt like we were walking on the surface of the sun. On the raft to Tom Sawyer's Island, I felt like I was on a stove top skillet. Brutal!

Took the kids to the cheap theater to see "Imagine That" today. It was okay. At least it was a buck and the kids enjoyed it! They still want to see "G-Force" and "Aliens in the Attic". Reviews on either?
I think it's time for a nap. We had really loud t-storms this a.m. which had the dogs barking like crazy! Woke us all up-not that early but we had been up late.

Evening all! Just popping in to say howdy. Going to Great AMerica for the day tomorrow. Not my fondest thing to do, but I promised this year we would go if they got the reading tickets. So.....
KimRaye-thanks for the offer, both the kids had the freebies.
Slo, great news that you are so busy. Glad to hear the girls had a great party.
Welcome home Mac and Geffric. Mac, I sent you a PM. Hope you get it before tomorrow AM.
Everyone else-have a great week. Need to get to bed.

My kids start school 2 weeks from today:eek:
This is just way to early, and I don't like it :sad2:
The only good thing about it, is I will see Katie more, because she will be dropped off at the store after school, so that will be nice, and she's very excited about it!!!!:yay:
Stephanie comes home at around 4:20pm (she's in middle school now), so I will see her soon after I come home. :)

Mac - Welcome home!!!:) Did you have a nice time?

momto1 - That's nice that you are able to have off work for your son's 13th bday :cake:
Do you have anything planned for this weekend?

geffric - Welcome home!!!!! :) I'm glad you had a good trip!!!

paint - I did have an awesome July, but so far August has been dead slow :guilty: Owning a business in this economy is like being on a rollercoaster - one minute it's up, and the next second it's down. It makes it very hard to create a business plan, and very hard to plan expenses, because you never know what is going to happen from day to day.

TTTiiiigggernnn - Thanks!!! :)
Have fun at GM today :cool1:

Not to much going on by me today - just working.
Have a good day everyone!!!

Just a quick swing by to say hi! :flower3: we are booking our hotel for the wedding/honeymoon today... 13 days at the Contemporary:scared1: I'm very VERY excited!

Paint ~ I saw G-force. It was cute and fun. I thought Beverly Hills Chihuahua was better though (as far as talking animal movies go) Any movie with a talking animal ranks pretty high for me!

Everyone else ~ have a wonderful day! :wave2: I can't believe we are talking about back-to-school....

oh Slo, It's supposed to be in the upper 90s this weekend... yay for swimming!

Howdy!! :sunny:

More laundry to do around here today. When does it stop????

Rented 'Race to Witch Mountain' from the Redbox last night. The kids and I had already seen it at the theatre but DH hadn't. We like this movie!

Last night DH finally got some things moved around in our garage. It's been a total wreck since we moved in!! :sad2:
I'd like to get my car in there, but I'm not sure that's going to happen.

slo I hope August is a good month for you at the store. :goodvibes
Have fun tonight! I love a free meal!
There are a lot of pools in this town!! And public pools, and the YMCA's here have huge water parks too (not your typical YMCA at all, they're HUGE!!..and very expensive). And some subdivisions have community pools too. Tony looked at one that had a pool but didn't go with it because of the size of the house. Our house is bigger but no pool. I'd rather have a bigger house for all our stuff then a pool. And I'm still having storage issues with the loss of the basement!!!

disneygal 13 nights!! WOW!!! I like talking animal movies too! ;)

mac & geffric Welcome back! :wave2:

Tiggerrn Hope you and the kids have a great time at GA!! Did your DH go too?

paint It is blazing hot here. It's like the sun is closer to us here!! At least there isn't as much humidity as at WDW.....or even Illinois. That does make a difference. I've been to WDW in Sept when the temps were high and the humidity was unbearable!!!.....NO FUN!!
But it's been so hot here the kids can barely touch the car door to open it!! OUCH!! :scared1:

momto1 Sounds like your son had a good game plan!! :thumbsup2

Slo- I can't believe school is almost here, either. My kids go back on the 18th! It will be nice to be back in a routine, though. I've hardly been to the gym (since it does not have childcare) and my house is a mess!
Dgal- I was leaning towards G-Force, too. Thanks for the info! Also, wow...almost 2 weeks at CR! I need to stay at a monorail resort. So convenient! Going Pop this time, though, since I just went to WDW in June!
Bunchkin- Just discovered Redbox and LOVE it! I will have to look for Return to Witch Mountain. I know the kids saw it iwth their dad, but I wouldn't mind seeing it. And, about getting a car in the garage...at least if you don't, you'll never have to scrape snow offof it!:rotfl2:
Tig- Hope you had fun at GA. We usually go to Fright Fest since that was dh and I's first date. I am always annoyed there, though, because it is so dirty and the people are so obnoxious...and it is so not WDW!;)

Well, I better get my household going. Yep...almost lunchtime and everyone is still in bed! The dcs are watching tv, but dh is still sleeping! I'll let him enjoy it, though. He has had no summer break at all. He has been taking grad classes and they end tomorrow. Work starts back on Monday! The dcs, on the other hand, have been spoiled! DD, especially, will sleep all day if you let her!

Wow, while I'm busy here at work, I fear I have DIS addiction. I keep the DIS open (while minimized) even when I'm working now-a-days.:rotfl:

Paint ~ We will be staying at ASmusic for our trip in Sept. The way I look at this is... it's our wedding. It's probably the only time we will be able to stay deluxe and well, we might as well just do it. We were going to do a split stay for the few days before the wedding but then I started getting paranoid that something might get misplaced or left behind or something would go wrong and well, i just didn't want to have that stress the couple days leading up to the wedding:laughing: so for a couple extra hundred I'm getting a sane piece of mind too! :thumbsup2

Good Afternoon Chicagoland Homies.....

looks like i missed tttiiggeeeerrnnnnnn's message.....:sad1:

thanks for the welcome back home for me.

who is the person that needed information on Galena?

i can't remember who it was.

i am going thru my papers of the last week and found a spread about Galena in the weekend tribune.
i can save it for the person that needed the 411 on that place.

let me know and i'll mail you the article.
it lists sites and places for the reader.

Hi gang! Today was our Cultural Festival at work. I just ate my way around the world and am stuffed beyond belief. I had some great food. There is a chocolate cookie from Polan and Egyptian chocolate cake waiting to be devoured when I have some space in my tummy!

We start back to school on August 25th. I can't believe it is almost that time already. Where did the summer go?

Slo - Hope your business picks up in August. It sounded like you were on a roll in July.

DG - You have fabulous honeymoon accomdations booked. That is great. All Stars Music in September will be fun, too. When do you go in September? Do we overlap?

Tiggern - Hope you are having a great day at Six Flags. DS hasn't asked to go this year and I haven't volunteered.

Hi to everybody else!
Lori

mmmmm... food! We'll be in the motherland 9/21 - 9/26. I'm not sure what your dates are but I'm pretty sure I just miss Geffric and Mac. I think... now i'm second guessing myself.

We drop Geoff off 8/25 and Eric starts 8/26.. boo hoo where did the summer go?? Oh Yeah, we hardly had any summer weather.. but it was nice.. wait it will warm up when the kids are back in school and won't be able to enjoy it..

Hi guys! Well, I'm 3 for 3. Been to the Pediatritian more in the past two weeks than I have in the past 2yrs! DD12 started with strep week and a half ago, DS8 on Saturday and DD7 was running a temp of 103 and vomiting yesterday and started complaining of sore throat today. :sad2: Her strep was negative but they're treating her anyway due to symptoms. Ugh, it's such a bummer to spend this tail end of summer break sick. They go back to school on the 26th so hopefully everyone will be healthy by then.

geffric - the warm up starts this weekend. 95+ on Sat and Sun.

momto1 - yumm! That sounds wonderful, I'd have been stuffed too I love trying new things.

mac - I think it was esbrick that was talking about going to Galena.
*Glad you're back and hope you had a nice trip.

disneygal - I have a DIS addiction too I think, lol!
*Oooh, 13 days at the CR = heaven. :cloud9: We've never stayed there but now that they have DVC there maybe someday.......

paint - yikes they go back on the 18th?! That's early, we have until the 26th. I need them to go back too so I can have a routine again, DH was teasing me that the YMCA was asking where I've gone. ;)

Bunchkin - I was thinking of you the other day, Las Vegas was the "pick city of the day" on the Today show for weather. They were forecasting 107! :scared1: I know it's low humidity but that's still HOT!
*I'll have to stop by Red Box for Witch Mtn too, the kids haven't seen it and they've been asking.

slo - wow, your girls go back early too! I can't believe Stephanie is in Middle School! Yikes! I had that transition last year but since they're at Catholic school K-8 it doesn't seem like such a big deal. Now in 7th grade they move to the "Jr. High wing".
*I hope business picks up for you in August like it did in July.
**You should get some pool time this weekend with the temps in the 90s. Enjoy! :sunny:

Tiggerrn - hope you had fun at GA. My kids only asked once, told them "nope, we went to WDW". Guess if they got free tix I'd give it more thought.

Tomorrow is Parent Day at DSs camp, only problem is they've scheduled it for the middle of camp. :headache: We drop off at 9:30a, parent time is 11:30a-1:30p and then pick up is 3:30p. I live a good 20-25min from camp so going home is a waste of gas and tolls. Shopping could be dangerous..........Maybe I should just bring a book.

Well, I've got to go referee the latest squabble. The girls are fighting over whose turn it is on the computer!

Hi, all. Thanks again for all the kind words of support about the loss of my uncle.

MAC...welcome home. How was Macinac?

GEFFRIC...welcome home. How was your trip??

BUNCHKIN...yikes, it's HOT there...yeah, I know it's a *dry* heat, but I still think when you can't touch the car door/steering wheel, etc. it's HOT.

SLO..hope the business picks up for you again this month.

IRISHDANCER...I'm sorry your kids are all sick; hope they get to feeling better soon.

I cannot remember if I posted this before, but Brian got a new job as a music director for school in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He has been apartment hunting for awhile and he and his fiancee finally settled on a place up in Lake Geneva. It will be a bit of a drive for him to get to work, but the apartment is really, really nice...and 5 minutes to the lake (can you say jealous mom??!) We have been helping them move little stuff this week, and the big stuff is going to go in a truck this weekend. He's nervous/excited/scared/all those things that go along with a new job and new place to live. :)

Shout out to ALL...I'm off to watch the ball game...go SOX!:cool1:

mackinac island was very good and mackinaw city was even better.
weather was cool there, only one day it reached 71. rest of the time was jeans and jacket weather.

wow, i live 2 miles from K town.
that will be a long drive for him from Lake Geneva.
i hope he loves his job and his new apartment!

Morning all! Late night and too early of a morning here. (Roofers arrived at 8AM) We had nice weather yesterday, and we closed the park (hence the late night). I went with a friend and her 2 children. Paint, I have to say that this year the park was clean. Every hour the staff go around to the "You've Got to Move It, Move It" music (sorry to those who now have that song in their head:laughing:) and pick up the trash lying around the park. But I do agree, it is NOT Disney. However, our drive up there was horrendous! Lots of construction. Took 2 hours to reach the exit to Grand Ave. and then there we sat for 45 minutes just trying to get off of 94. Then it took another 30 minutes to get through the parking gates.:scared1: I should have know there and then, it was not going to be a nice day at the park. By the time we ate and got inside, it was already 1PM (quite a let down for a planned 11AM arrival). And the park was crazy busy. So much for recession. I guess everyone was using their free passes before they expire this weekend. And there was some sort of coupon offer for %off based on your age, plus the everyone pays kids price deal.
So, the long and LONG of it, shortest line wait=40 min for Virtual Velocity (which I bailed out on after I got up there and watched)And this was the end of the night last 15 min before park closed. Longest wait=70 minutes for the best ride of the day Raging Bull! The less brave of our group had somewhat shorter waits for the milder rides-maybe 30 minutes or so. But all the coasters were 60 minutes or more at any given time of the day. Then they take the Flash Pass people first no matter what time they get in line. Worst wait-75 minutes for Giant Drop's 2 second ride. And I think I died twice :laughing:I am sure my heart stopped on Raging Bull and Giant Drop.
OK, so much for the review-oh, and the kids did "waste" 4 hours at the water park. (not that I am a ride junkie or anything).
DG, your wedding plans sound :cloud9:But I have to warn you re: your plan to do deluxe "just for this time":rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:It is so addicting to stay in these themed, highly conveniently placed hotels. Having to return to reality is so difficult for me this year. :snooty:You will get so spoiled at the deluxe. Have a great Sept. visit
Slo, have a great pool weekend! I'll be enviously thinking of you as I work 12 hours both Sat and Sun.
Bunchkin, has anyone melted yet?! I would probably love it for a few days, but then stay inside like you. At least I might actually get some things done-:laundy:, vacuuming, dusting, dishes.......:rolleyes1 Glad to hear the kids like WM. I may rent that tonight for a vegout evening. We are very tired here today.
Mac, sorry we missed you yesterday. I kept checking my phone and hoping.
Donna, I think I missed sending you my condolences earlier. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers as well. Congrats to your son on his new job! I am sure it is hard to pack up and move away from home. I hope it turns out to be a dream job for him.
ID, sorry your are ending your summer on a sour (sick) note. What a bummer. Hopefully, though, they have gotten it all out of their system and the school year will be a healty one.
momto1, did you have sweets for breakfast?!:rolleyes1
geffric, more details please.:flower3:
Rose, hello again. Nice to hear from you.
Well, guess I had better get to some things. Sorry for the long post. Haven't really chatted on here in some time. Guess I had lots bottled up!

HI!! :sunny:

It's super windy here today. 50 mph winds they say. Dust storm warnings and all.
The only benefit is that it's slightly cooler. 98 degrees.

paint I shoveled soooo much snow last winter all by myself with Tony being here in Vegas and me alone with the kids at home that yes, I am looking forward to NO shoveling!!!! It does get chilly though in the winter here. I can recall that in the winter of 1993, when we last lived here, we needed to wear winter coats.
Big time sleepy heads at your house. Mine usually only sleep somewhere until 8-9am.

momto1 Your work day sounded yummy!!! Did everyone just bring a dish to share?

Tiggerrn I can't believe how long it took just to get to the park!!!
I remember when we went last August, we had no real traffic problems getting up there and got right off the tollway and into the park. It was also low crowds and the park was fairly clean. There were really no wait times either. I guess we just got lucky.
Hope you can chill out with a movie tonight! :goodvibes

Donna Congrats to your son on his new job. That must be such a relief to him. How is his girlfriend doing? Hope she is well. :flower3:

irish dancer Yep, any temp in the 100's is HOT no matter how you look at it!! Humidity or not!!! The other day it was so hot it felt like we were melting to the pavement.

Time to make tacos for dinner. Hope everyone has a great night!

Evening! Peace and quiet here! The dcs are at Gma's for the next few days. Ds wants to spend time with Gma sinc he hasn't gotten much of a chance with all of his camps this summer and dd is at her aunt's- they are going downtown tomorrow.
Bunchkin- I'll take chilly over those sub zero temps that had schools closed lat year. I remember scraping my windshield once, all the ice flying up my sleeve, and thinking...man, I need to move to FL!:rotfl2:
Tig- Glad GA was cleaner. I'll never get used to those wait times, and I've been to WDW in the summer! We get up early and use FP, so we never had a problem. You're lucky to go on a handful of rides at GA in a day!
ID- YMCA! Haha! My facebook message one day said something like "...gone to some place called the gym. Apparently people go there to exercise!" I've been good, though, and have been there the last 10 days straight!

This is a very very quick post this morning, because I want to get to work early - lots to do, and I want to make sure everything is done by Sunday, because I want to float in my pool. This possible 95 degree heat with high humidity, is really making me excited!!!!!:cool1:

This is a Mac type of post :teeth:

Congrats on the honeymoon reservation, hooray for good food at work, goodbye to Geoff, I hope all sick children get better soon, congrats to Brian!!, I'm glad Mackinac Island was good, bummer about having to work all weekend (I have to work Sat. too), I hope the wind dies down, peace and quiet is good!!!!

I gotta run - have a great Friday everyone!!
