Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Good morning all!

Never got to do the grocery shopping yesterday so we're off to do that soon, I hope, or at least whenever Sleeping Beauty wakes up. Boy, that girl can sleep.

We also have to go check in with MIL. Both the house phone and her cell phone are going straight to voice mail so no one can check in with her.
The social worker from the hospice told DH and his sister yesterday that if she gets any worse, which is going to happen, they may put her into a nursing facility since her husband cannot take care of her as her health decreases. It also doesn't help that he took her out shopping at Costco on Sun. and got lost for 20 minutes trying to find the car. He left her in the car to go get her a ECV and got lost on the way back. And for some reason he told this to the hospice nurse. :sad2: He has no business driving anywhere and she doesn't have the strength to be leaving the house.
How do you tell seniors that they can't do things anymore???? :headache:

Kim Sorry to hear about your SIL.
It sounds like you enjoyed your vacation. Montana is very pretty!

Tigg Ok, now I remember you mentioning the river rafting! Sorry, I had a mental block!! Hope you all have a great time! Remember- roughing it now, Disney later!! :thumbsup2 It will be a great experience for the kids too! :) Take pics to share with us!

KimRaye, sounds like you had a nice vacation! Sorry to hear your DSIL is not doing so well. How long has she had MS. I know a lady I worked with that had it. She would have good weeks and bad ones depending on the seasons. It is so hard to see people we know as young and vibrant have stuff like this happen.
I have 4 people (and a possible 5th, my cousin) in my life with MS, my DSIL being the worst. :sad1: She is 59 and was diagnosed about 14-15 years ago. SHE is the worst progressive case of all the MS people I know and, I'm not happy to know this many people with MS! :sad1: There are 'stages' of this disease but, as MS states, in the M, it is Multiple! DSIL is definately 'end stage' of MS, if they name/stage it that way. I can't imagine what else she can lose. She is wheelchair-bound, only has use of her right-hand (shaky at best), has a hard time seeing, hearing, talking and everything else, and yet, she is such a wonderful lady! Her sense of humor, she tears up laughing with! :rotfl: She was truly beautiful to Kelly and me last week and, so extremely thankful for everything we did, every LITTLE thing that we did! princess:. Humbling, I must admit. :sad1: Thank you for asking. Last week was truly a wonderful and beautiful week for Kelly & I but also very insightful, bittersweet and heartfelt for us. Kelly and her BD Aunt truly got to know each other - flaws and abilities/disabilities. It REALLY was humbling to me! Not much for me to crab about when they live with that. :sad1:

Her DH is quite the man! :thumbsup2

Thanks again for asking/posting. Judi (My DSIL) will forever be in my heart! :lovestruc I think I succeeded in making the DD-DSIL BD girl connection and, we had Montana's beauty of Glacier National Park to enjoy together as well! :thumbsup2 Judi thinks that's her last time there. I'm happy we were the ones to share it with her. She was bawling (we were alll bawling) when we had to leave. :sad1:

Sorry to vent to you all. Just really re-thinking 'things'.

:surfweb:

Sorry I haven't been on here for a couple of days, but I've been getting to work really early due to all the work I have to do. In fact, I'm going in to work as soon as I'm done DISing. I'm having a great month at my store!!!!

Today is the Fire Dept picnic, so that should be a nice time. It's always nice to catch up with many of the FD wives, and some of it's members. Then I'm hoping to come home and spend some time in the pool, or relax by the pool when the girls are in it.

TTTTiiigggernnnn - Have fun camping :cool1: The weather looks like it'll be great for you :sunny:

Bunchkin - Kevin is going to help me with some of this stuff soon, but he's never been trained, so he can't do much. I'm putting him in charge of closing up the 40 highschool photos, and he'll learn real fast on how to do that, which will be good so he can help with other things:thumbsup2
**How is your MIL after you checked on her? I hope she is okay.

Kim - My college employee has MS, and when I hear stories like your DSIL, it makes me so sad to think what is in my employees future:guilty:

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, I gotta got and get to work, so I can leave and go to the picnic - busy day!!
Have a good Sunday everyone!!!

Good morning everyone!

Bunchkin How are the kids adjusting? Give Hunter a hand shake since he never ok'd me to give him a hug and a hug to Lauren cause she did.
I keep reaching for the phone to call you to see if you want to meet somewhere but you aren't close enough to do things in a day
I hope your MIL and FIL realise their limations soon and can adjust. When my grandfather had one of his final strokes my dad and uncle had to sit him down and let him know they were there to take him where ever he wanted to go. They ended up taking his keyes to the car. It was a pretty sad time.

Slo I am glad your store is doing well. I hope things continue.

Alex had his highschool physical this past week. It seems just yesterday I was taking hiim to the doctor for his baby shots not really big baby shots. The kid still hates shots atleast I don't have to bribe him anymore;)

I hope everyone is enjoying the sun shine.

I wrote a Long post yesterday.. and poof.. it disappeared.. GRRR..

Anyway in a nutshell..

Bunchy - Medicare will pay for all things for home health care.. when my Mom was in a nursing home we thought that the nurse to patient ratio was best by found out that it was the patient to aide ratio that really counted.. mantime the didn't feed her breakfast or clean her up til almost noon.. that is why we started being there at 7 am to mnake sure she was taken care of.. at her home she had nurses and aides and help almost all day..she had much better care..

Tiggerrn2 - when in Oct are you booked??

We have rafted on the new river with the boy scouts.. there was different parts of the river for different skill sets.. Geoff went to the super skilled set and it was fun but challenging.. it is beautiful part of the country..

Guess what!!! I met MAC on Friday.. ;)it is so hard to beleive that we have know each other all these years and never met.. so it was so special to get to met her in person. She is even more wonderful in person than here.. i enjoyed talking with her and am so glad that we are going to vacation together in Octoiber..:thumbsup2

Eric and friends had a great time at Great America Friday. Yesterday his nband played at Clearwater in West Dundee.. I think that did awesome.. next gig is Putting Edge in Hoffman in August..

and geffric and i celebrated diet day at culvers...........

she is kewl.
we will have lots of fun at the motherland!

kimraye, i couldn't get the thread to let me post this morning.

i sent you a pm of the schedule geffric and i have for sunday thru wed.
geffric and marita will be staying longer than i am.

Hi everyone! :wave2:

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I'm going to have dinner at CPK tonight. Getting the white pizza with garlic spinach. Yum!

I'm doing Weight Watchers (again! :lmao:) and finally actually lost a lb or so this week, so I'm excited about that. I'm limiting my Flex Points to 21 instead of 35 a week, so I think that will help.

I've got some of my stuff planned out for my DL trip and Studio tour. For the first two nights, we're staying in Burbank. It's pretty close to the studio, so that will be good for getting there on Saturday. It's also pretty close to Universal, and I'm going to try to do the backlot tour. I'm also hoping to see a few celebs homes and will try to find Ryan Seacrest at his radio studio. :rolleyes1 I also want to see the Hollywood sign, and will try to make it to the Disney Soda Fountain & Studio Shop in Hollywood.

Then after the tour on Saturday, we're going to DL! My friend is a CM at WDW and she got us a room at the Disneyland Hotel. I haven't stayed at that one. They're going to start renovations around that time, and I totally want to stay there after they're done. I saw a pic of a model room and it looks beautiful! :lovestruc She wants to do a couple of character meals, so we need to book those. Hopefully we'll do a couple of breakfasts. Also, she thinks she can get me into the parks for free! :woohoo: I'm so excited! I love the Electrical Parade, and Fantasmic!, and Dumbo is supposed to fly for the fireworks! Plus all the rides! DL is so much fun!

Oh well, I need to go wash my hair, I guess, get something done. :rotfl: I haven't booked my WDW trip yet for October. I'm thinking we might just stay in a moderate this time. We'll see.

Hi gang!!

3 days till we leave for DL and I have so much stuff going on. I haven't even packed yet. And on top of it DH is still bringing in box after box from the garage to be unpacked. Just when I think I'm almost done...POOF...another box appears.

MIL took a turn for the worse on Friday. When I got to her house she had a fever and was really non-responsive. It's hard to see her fading so quickly. After a few calls, I finally got word from the CNA that she was on her way. Another nurse showed up as well to check in on her at the same time almost and then the social worker showed up too. So it was a full house.
MIL is set up on a hospital bed and they don't want her moving around anymore.
Had to explain this to her and FIL. Also, she not to be left alone at all, which FIL was doing occasionally to go to the store! :headache: I saw him break down and cry for the first time on Friday. He feels so helpless. But at the same time he's acting very selfish. It's very hard to deal with at times.
MIL seems to be doing better today. DH is there now checking in on them.
Tomorrow I see if they are putting her into the hospice in patient facility.
They don't believe she has a lot of time left. :sad1:
The kids and I were there for a total of 9 hours on Friday. I feel bad for the kids to have to deal with such things at their age.

Kim Yes, we moved here to take care of both of them, MIL & FIL.
I'm so glad that Kelly had the opportunity to spend time with her aunt.

Hersey I'll pass on the handshake and hug to the kids! :) Hunter's not much of a hugger. Unless it's me or Tony that is.
Call me and meet us at DL some time soon! We're buying annual passes on Wed. I think you and Alex need a vacay!! :yay:

Leigh Get in the parks for free? YAY!! :cool1:

geffric Sorry to hear of the experience your mom had in the nursing home. That's a shame. We've been really happy with all the hospice people so far.

Time to run. Got a roast in the crock pot, it's too hot here to run the oven.

Hi guys! Well, another weekend is coming to a close, can't believe it! Also can't believe I'm looking at back to school ads in the paper and saw the display at Target the other day - UGH! Didn't school just get out?!

We went to Macaroni Grill tonight for dinner with the in-laws, a little early birthday celebration for me. It was SO good. Will definitely be back. DD7 says she might pick there for her birthday dinner too (hope so!). My birthday isn't until Wednesday.

mac - thanks for the listings, I've got some scheduled on the DVR.

Bunchkin - so sorry to hear your MIL is doing worse. How was your visit with your SIL?
*Hope you have a GREAT time in DL, can't wait to hear all about it.

Leigh - wow, your Calif trip sounds great. DD12 showed me a commercial from the Disney channel that shows Dumbo flying during the fireworks at DL. Very cool! Hope you will fill us in on all the details when you get back.

geffric - don't you just love technology sometimes? I've had that happen to me too and it is so frustrating.
*That is a terrible story about the nursing home, unfortunately you hear all kinds of horror stores about some places I'm sorry you had to deal with it for your mother.

slo - great to hear business is going so great this month. Hope you had fun at the picnic today.

Kim - I'm sorry about your SIL, it must be so hard. I'm glad you guys had the chance to visit her and spend time at Glacier Nat'l Park.

:wave2: to all the other Chicago homies! Some of you haven't been on in a while - come back and let us know how you're doing!

Well, it's back to the grind tomorrow. Work, camp, cleaning, etc. I start teaching this week so that will be new. Hope everyone has a great week! :flower3:

Kim - My college employee has MS, and when I hear stories like your DSIL, it makes me so sad to think what is in my employees future:guilty:
Maybe not for your college employee - there are stages/levels of MS, I've learned and, my DSIL is the worst. I know several others who function normally. Hopefully, your student will be one of those. I think early diagnosis is key! Prayers for your employee!

Congrats on the BUSY BUSINESS!! :cool1:

HERSEY Kelly has her 6th grade physical/shots appt later this month. I remember when they told her at her last ACTUAL physical that she wouldn't need another SHOT until HS. We'll see how times/infections/diseases have changed since then! She hasn't been to her DRs all these years unless she was sick! :rolleyes1

mac Got the PM! Replied! Let's DO THIS! :thumbsup2 geffric??

Leigh Have fun! We were only in Hollywood 1 day and saw the SIGN 3 times from various locations and, we took a great tour of Hollywood, etc. Worth it, for us, anyway. (maybe I posted about it back in Oct '08?) We ended our day at Disney's soda fountain! It's ok. Your trip sounds whirlwind for sure! :cheer2: Good luck with WW! Worked for me....I just need to re-lose!

Nicole Dang! How do you handle everything you're dealing with and a trip besides! :worship: HAVE FUN! Hunter and ALL of you deserve it! Soo sorry to hear of MILs condition.

id thanks!

:grouphug: to all!

:surfweb:

I am really sorry to see this weekend go.
I had to work ALOT, but it was still a great weekend.

Saturday night we had a fire with our neighbors, and my BFF w/ her DD came over too - it was a lot of fun, and the kids had a great time!!!! :cool1:

Sunday we had the FD picnic - that was fun seeing everyone:). We had some new babies there, and they were fun to see and hold - so sweet!!!!:goodvibes Then last night we had some pizza with our neighbors, while Kevin helped my neighbor (the DH) start putting up his girls swingset. The swingset is large, and they got the first phase done, and then all the guys (FD guys) came over, and sat at Kevin's bar. It sounded like they were having some good laughs down there. I have no idea what time they left, or when Kevin came to bed.

HERSEY - Wow....Alex is starting HS:eek:I can't believe how these kids are growing so fast.

geffric - That's great that you and Mac got to meet :)
**I'm glad to hear how Eric and his band have some playing engagements - they've gotta be loving that!!!:woohoo:

Mac - I"m glad you had a good time meeting geffric at Culvers :)

Leigh - Good luck with the WW:wizard:
**your plans for DL sound like alot of fun!!!! :cool1:

Bunchkin - I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL :guilty:
I bet your FIL is so glad to have you all there during this time. If he feels lost now, imagine how lost he would feel if he was alone:sad1:
How are the kids dealing with your MIL's weakening conditioin?
So many hugs to you all :grouphug::grouphug: and I will keep everyone in my prayers.

ID - When's your bday?
**Good luck with your new teaching job this week:wizard:

Kim - Thanks for the congrats:), and I hope you are right about my employee.

Well, it's time to start the day - I hope you all have a good week!!!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: man this weekend flew by! i went to the zoo on saturday with my sisters and nephews. Those kids are just too cute! Yesterday I did some work outside and just kind of hung out. Oh and my sister was in the ER saturday night. apparently she has a massive ulcer or something. Dad and I picked her up last night, the docs said she could go home as long as she sticks to a no caffeine, no chocolate, no spicy diet. I'm just glad it's not something worse. Our family just can't stay away from that hospital:laughing: not really a laughing matter but still a little humorous!

slo ~ sorry to hear about your college employee. that has to be really rough on her.

bunchy ~ :grouphug:for you and your family. hopefully your trip will help the kids and you take your minds off of the stress. your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Kim ~ sorry to hear about your SIL. I can't imagine how hard it must be for her.

Geffric ~ bummer i'm going to miss you, mac and kim by only a week :sad2: in the motherland!

Mac ~ thanks for the listings!

Leigh ~ good luck with WW. Your DL trip sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I've never been!

ID ~ happy early bday! where is this macaroni grill you speak of? it sounds delicious!

Everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!

if any of you homies are planning a trip to the motherland in the fall, work around the dates i have listed prior and meet up with us!

the more the merrier.......:thumbsup2
everyone is welcome!!

our mini meet so far will be geffric, KimRaye and myself

we won't talk about diets while we are stuffing our faces.....

mac Got the PM! Replied! Let's DO THIS! :thumbsup2 geffric??

sounds like fun.. we could even meet more than once.. Woo Hoo..I will be great to see you again.. I don't think we have seen each other since the meet with Dan, Donna, Rose and others at Gino a few years ago

bunchy ~ :grouphug: You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Try and have fun at DL knowing she is in Good hands..

Leigh ~ Your DL trip sounds like it will be a lot of fun. We loved CA adventure and Toon Town and of course Mickey climbing the Matterhorn.. do you think your fates for Oct will overlap and you can meet me, MAC, and Kim???

sounds like fun.. we could even meet more than once.. Woo Hoo..I will be great to see you again.. I don't think we have seen each other since the meet with Dan, Donna, Rose and others at Gino a few years ago
Check with the HEAD planner I think, Mac! But yes, more than once based on our schedules IS possible - sounds like we ALL planned our days according to hours! :thumbsup2 Hope to see you again!!
