Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Whew.....I'm tired after that long day yesterday :faint:

The bridal fair went well - I spoke with alot of people :thumbsup2
Now I'm curious on how long it will take for anyone to come in because of it. I get a decent response within the next couple of months, then I will do another one in February. :thumbsup2

Thank you to all your responses about Kevin getting a new job:goodvibes
It's nice to have you all to share things with :grouphug:

Stephanie got her report card yesterday, and for the first time ever, she got all A's and B's :yay::woohoo: She made the Honor Roll :woohoo: School doesn't come easy for her, so this is a HUGE accomplishment. I hope she is able to keep it up the next semester, and not get burned out:wizard:

ID - I agree, the sun has been great!!!! :sunny:

Sam - So great to see you back on here!!!! :goodvibes
**I agree that facebook is very addictive!!!! ::yes::

Stitchfans - Good luck with your letters, and think positive. I will keep you in my prayers that you will get a great response!!!:)

Bunchkin - I will swap you your weather for this weather anyday ;) I love the HEAT!!!!!:)

Mac - Feel better soon!!!:wizard:

Becky - Good luck to your 7th grader, and ouch about your 4th grader. I'm glad he's doing better :)
**How is your DD's back doing?

geffric - Did you learn about Medicare while working at the center, or did you know alot about it before that?

Kim - I love Donny Osmond too :lovestruc:love::lovestruc

Well, I gotta run and get ready for work - I go in early today (I'm trying to go in early on Thursdays so I can leave right at 3:40pm).

Have a great day today!!!

Morning everyone. Sun is out again. :yay: Sure does help put you in a good mood. Been lax in housework :laundy:so today I should get caught up. Will be putting the finishing touches on my query letter. Hope everyone is having a great day!

SLo- Hope you get some responses from the bridal show. :thumbsup2 DD got her report card also. All B's except for one C. US History is a real challenge for her. I am so proud though that she is doing so well in Geometry. I never even took that class myself. Would not attempt it.

Gefferic- Thanks for the info. Shame you don't live closer. I will check into the meals on wheels in our area. We also have a food pantry she can volunteer at.

MAc- hope you are feeling soon. no fun being under the weather.

ID- :laughing:that is why I am finished shopping since I stretch it out and like you said don't end up with a big bill at the end of the year. Just need to get some ideas for my two DD's and DH. Still have to shop for them. For some reason I am stumped this year.

Well have plenty I should be doing so I guess I should stop goofing around. Have a great day everyone!

Hey all! Just a drive by. I have to study for a test this afternoon.
Stitchfans- That is cool that you are an author! I am an English major and can write and write, but I swear I can't think of my own ideas! I ned an assignmnt, or jumping off point!
Slo- Glad the bridal fair went well. Were you advertising for just framing pics? After my first marriage, I had a woman dry my bouquet and frame it with the invitations matted. It was pretty and pricey (good for you, tho!).
mac- Feel better soon!
bunchkin- Nice fall weather!
ID- Whatever happened to the lunch thing with your ds? Did you say anything? My friend has similar problems with hr ds (I've mentiond him to you before). He is at a privat school and they don't have a protocol in dealing with him. They carried him out of gym class the other day after he had a break down due to sensory issues.
Tig- LOVED the pics! I missed the kids when we went without them, too. I kept telling dh what they liked, or would have liked!

Study time!

New to the site and I'm so glad I found this thread. Good to know there are more Disney Lovers in the Chicago Area.

We leave for our family vacation in 22 days and I can't wait!!

Mickey here we come!!:earboy2:

:welcome: zoey2008! Have a great trip and come back and post here often. :thumbsup2

Hooray - it's Friday!!!!!:yay::woohoo::dance3:
I sure hope Stephanie doesn't have a lot of homework to do over the weekend - that would be great!!!!:wizard:

Stitchfans - Congrats to your DD on her good report card :cheer2:Stephanie is starting geometry already, in 5th grade:eek: I never did well in the subject, so I have to really review things to help her.

paint - I was advertising for framing anything. On my display I had some shadowboxes, a small jersey, oil painting, a cross-stitch, and multiple pictures in one frame. The item that got the most attention was the shadowbox with a picture of Sophie. It's a picture of her, with a dog collar, and dog bones - it's quite cute!!!!!:)

Zoey - :welcome:
Welcome to our thread - please come by often, we would love to get to know you!!!!!:goodvibes
**Give us some details about your trip. Where are you staying, where are you eating, and anything special you have planned? We love to hear trip details :teeth:

Kim - :wave2:

It's that time to get the little princess up for school.
Have a good day!!!

Good morning! No sunshine today, but at least it is fairly warm, not freezing out.

Welcome Zoey!:yay:

Hey SLO- I agree on the hooray for Friday. :cheer2: I really look forward to and enjoy my weekends.

Well, nothing new to report and not much going on here so I guess I will just wish everyone a great day.

Morning guys! I'll join in the T.G.I.F.!! Two days without an alarm clock buzzing at 6:30am are a cause for celebration!

Not much new here either. Tomorrow is the Christmas Bazaar at our church, DD12 is volunteering in the morning and she serves 8:30a mass on Sunday. That's all we have planned. We hope to go see Disney's Christmas Carol sometime over the weekend too.

Stitchfan - the sun is not out yet but they are forecasting it for this afternoon - I hope so!
*We're totally stumped on gifts for our kids too. They don't "need" a thing and I haven't heard them mention anything really either.

slo - I am so lucky that my girls don't get homework over the weekend, never have. I think it's a school policy.
*I hope you get some business from the bridal fair.

zoey2008 - Welcome!! Tell us all about your trip, we love to hear about everyone's plans.

paint - how was the test? I'm sure you did great!
*I did send an email to the principal and teacher. The principal never responded but the teacher did. She pretty much just restated that he wouldn't accept any other offering and that if it happens again they'll call me. I'm going to leave it at that for now, I don't think DSs teacher was with him at the time just the "lunch ladies". I'm sorry your friend's son is having a tough time, unfortunately a lot of private schools are not equiped to handle special needs kids.

geffric - DH is looking into getting MOW for his mom. She is disabled from a stroke many years ago and now without her DH I'm afraid she's not going to eat very well at all. Thank you for all you do for them, they offer an invaluable service to seniors.

Becky - glad to see you around again. Yikes DS got his teeth knocked out in gym class! Glad is doing better now though.

mac - hope you're feeling better soon!

:wave2: to everyone else!

Well, I've got to bake something for the bake sale at the Bazaar so I'm off to preheat the oven and stick in the cake. Hope everyone has a great day! :flower3:

Hello everyone! :flower3: I swear, once the condo hunting and wedding and everything else is over and done with I will be a good chicagoland DISer again! So, now that that's said, I've been a busy little bee again this week. Did I mention in my last post we finished our invites?? Well, we did! I just need to address them, which will take a whole 10 minutes to print out labels and stick them on! :cool1: Also, we are going to look at more condos tomorrow. There is one we REALLY like in the pics. Anyway, it's right near Orland Mall and is beautiful in pics. If you could please send some PD and good thoughts that it's as nice as it looks online.

Slo ~ congrats to Stephanie on the honor roll. :flower3:I remember the first time I actually made the honor roll! Also, congrats to Kevin on the job.

ID ~ Have fun at the Bazaar and bake sale.

Mac ~ hope you feel better soon. :wizard:

Bunchy ~ I wish it was 82 degrees here.

Kim ~ first, thanks for the info about contingent places. we had our realtor call the listing agent back and tell her we still want to make an offer. She told him that her other offer is pretty much a done deal and to not waste our time. However, it's still active on the MLS which is bogus but whatever. We decided that the fact this lady had been so difficult from the get go, we let it go and are looking elsewhere. Second, I :lovestruc Donny Osmond (not given my age:laughing:)

Stitch ~ I hear ya on being lax-ed with housework. I have a massive amount of laundry to do this weekend:laughing:

Paint ~ good luck on the test! :wizard:

Zoey ~ Welcome!!! where are you staying on your trip?

Geffric, Hersey, Leigh, Becky, SamIAm ~ :wave2: hope you all have a wonderful day!

HI all! :wave2:

Gorgeous weather here again today. But I'm still missing the 'real fall season' you're all having!!!
In fact, I had to laugh at a picture in yesterday's local paper here. It was a shot of two people on a trail of one of the local mountain recreational areas here and the caption on the pic was "so and so looking at the fall colors". Well....all the trees in the shot had GREEN leaves!! UGHHH!! Are they kidding?? People here have no clue was 'fall colors' are!!

Glad it's Friday too. Which means it's test day for Hunter. They seem to have several on every Friday. Which also meant lots of studying last night, actually we study every night.

DD goes in for her permanent crown this afternoon. I'm hoping it doesn't cause her any more pain or difficulties than she has already been through.

We might go to Hoover Dam this weekend.

slo Congrats to Stephanie on her grades! No homework here for the weekends.

paint How did your presentation go? I cannot remember if you mentioned it?

geffric Sorry to hear your car is pooping out on you! DH's gave up on him recently and he is still looking for a replacement. I thought for sure last night he was going to come home with a newish car, but didn't!!

irish dancer If you go to the movie, let us know how it is. I just read a review this morning that gave it a 'C'. The kids want to see it but not DH.

Zoey :welcome: to the Chicago Thread!! Congrats on your upcoming trip to WDW!!

Becky Sorry to hear about your son's teeth! I can sympathize with you.

Stitchfans My kids are more than willing to highlight and circle every ad available showing what they would like for Christmas!!! It's actually kind of a tradition for them.

Have a great Friday everyone!

disneygal I know you and Mike will find the perfect place for you both!!! There are so many condos in that area that I'm sure you'll find one soon that you can grab up and buy!!!
Get to doin' that laundry!!!!! ;)

hi everyone! Been a full week since I been on the boards. Been very busy. Had a two day security forum at the Knickerbocker Hotel in Chicago on Monday and Tuesday. Monday night was a vendor sponsored dinner at Gibson's Steakhouse and then we went to the lounge on top of the Hancock for drinks afterward. Finally made it home around 11pm.

Busy catching up the rest of the week. Upgraded my Blackberry firmware today and it wasn't done by the time I needed to leave work to pick up Carol. So, I left it upgrading and ran over to grab Carol and took her to Algauer's Grill in Lisle for their Friday night prime rib and seafood buffet. This is the fourth time we've done that buffet, it's awesome! Afterward, ran back up to my office next door to finish up my Blackberry upgrade and get home.

Finally! We can relax! Next week shouldn't be too bad, then it's off to NYC for a workshop the following week.

Hope everyone is well!

I sure hope Stephanie doesn't have a lot of homework to do over the weekend - that would be great!!!!:wizard:
I hear ya! Kelly usually has some MINUTES of homework, but nothing too much.

Tomorrow is the Christmas Bazaar at our church, DD12 is volunteering in the morning and she serves 8:30a mass on Sunday. That's all we have planned.
Doesn't that equal a 6:30 am alarm clock, or similar time? :confused3 Have fun!

You're welcome! Better luck on the Orland place! Congrats on the invites, too! How exciting!

Leaves are practically GONE here now, Nicole! Colors gone, lawns covered. {{HUGS}} for Lauren!

Monday night was a vendor sponsored dinner at Gibson's Steakhouse
John, how was Gibson's? I have a GC for the Rosemont Gibson's, but I've never been before. :confused3

Kelly had 1/2 a day Thurs, after which we had lunch and then went back for her teacher meeting. 2 B+'s, the rest A's. It was kinda funny when the teachers that teach her B+ classes told her to blame ME for those, because I took her out of school for those 3 days last month! They truly meant it in jest - and both said she's doing just fine and to keep doing whatever she's doing! Maybe that means take 3 days off EVERY quarter and Go To Disney!!! :goodvibes:thumbsup2 Wouldn't THAT be nice?!?! We also volunteered at the school book fair after that. She got 4 books for $8, with my $10 volunteer coupon. ;)

She was also off Friday, but she went to Concordia College in the afternoon to practice for her Science Olympics Saturday. After she got back, she ate dinner and left for skating. :confused3 After Science Olympics Sat., we have to pick up Market Day and get to church at 6, because I really want Sun AM OFF!! I can dream, right?

 & :grouphug: everyone!

It's going to be a beautiful day today, and I have to work:headache:
I'm so glad it's going to be nice tomorrow too, so I can have some time outside :cool1:

March of the Penguins was on the Weather Channel last night, and I watched it. Have any of you see this movie? The movie itself is kinda boring, but the information is incredible!!! I will never look at penguins the same way again - what an incredible animal!!! I really learned something last night!!!!

Stitchfans - How's the letter going? How long does it normally take to get the letter answered?

ID - Please give us a review of the movie - I'm really wanting to see it!! :santa:

DG - Thanks for the congrats!!!:goodvibes
**Sending mountains of PD your way for everything to work out well with this condo:wizard: Please keep us posted!!!

Bunchkin - Thanks for the congrats!!!:goodvibes I know you know how hard school can be for Stephanie, because I know we've talked about it more than once. She worked so hard for those grades, and I had to hound her alot to work hard, that I'm very afraid she's going to get burned out (kinda like most of us get (me recently) get when we are on a diet or workout program - it's hard to stick to it). I hope I'm wrong, but I have a gut feeling I'm right. I guess we'll soon find out
**How is Laurn after the dentist? Is she in pain? Sending tons of PD her way:wizard:
**Have a nice time at Hoover Dam :)

Crissup - Sounds like you've been very busy. I'm glad you can relax now for a bit :)

Kim - Congrats to Kelly on her great grades!!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

Well, it's time to get ready for work - Booo!!!!!!!:guilty:
I want to stay home today.
Oh well, that's life:rolleyes:

Have a good day today!!!

Crissup Glad to hear you and CarolAnn are well. You have been busy.

DG I also thought real estate agents are obilgated to present all offers to the sellers. She could cause these people to lose a deal. I think you and wise and move on there are many homes.

Kim /B] :cheer2: To Kelly on her grades.

Alex is having a time with 1 teacher she thinks her drawing class is the be all to end all. It is bringing down his GPA thank god he only has her this semister. All is other classed are A's or B's he is getting A's in his honor classes.

WOW we are going to be having a beautiful weekend. I have yard cleanup to do. We picked up the bulk of the leaves last weekend. Those crummy trick or treaters didn't take 1 leaf in fact I think they left 1 or 2 more.

Hey! It IS a beautiful day! Too bad I have to spend the majority of it at work!:mad:However, it is supposed to be soooo busy, which means I will be like this :) when I count my tips at the end of the night! Also, dh just called to tell me a friend is coming down to visit tonight! Yet another ...one more year until I graduate and have a normal job and schedule.
Hersey- Well, tell Alex it doean't end in HS! My Psych class was trouble from the start. The teacher told us Ed majors not to expect to do well. Thanks, right?
Dgal- Man, would it be dangerous to my budget to live near Orland! GL on your condo search!
Slo- I've never seen that movie even though we own it! Have you see Earth? The kids got bored of it and never finished it.
Bunchkin- Presentation went fine. Itis no biggie, actually. We are presenting a paper we've written and aren't graded on the presentation part. She has us read the paper, then asks us a few questions. It is very boring!
ID- Yeah, she is having trouble at this school. It is a lab school run by the university that everyone wants to get into! They aren't really equipped to handle him. In fact, last year the way they handled any trouble was by sending him home!
Well, gotta clean so dh can have his friend over!

John, how was Gibson's? I have a GC for the Rosemont Gibson's, but I've never been before.

Gibson's was really good. I tend to be a bit of a steak snob. Primarily meaning, being raised in the Chicago area, we grow up with some of the best beef in the country. Even our cheap beef is better than good steaks in other parts of the country. So, as a result, I don't tend to order too much steak because I don't want to be disappointed (*Never* order steak in Florida unless you know it's flown in from somewhere else). I've eaten at Hugo's Frog Bar in Naperville before, which is owned by Gibson's (in fact, the downtown location is next door to Gibson's) and it was really good. Gibson's is one of these steakhouses where they bring the steaks out on a platter to show them to you raw before you order. The waiters are also knowledgable about the steaks, so you can ask if you're not sure which you'd prefer. I had the 28oz porterhouse, which was awesome. In fact, I couldn't eat it all and brought half of it home to Carol.

Morning everyone. More problems with soon to be (I hope ex son in law) there is no doubt in my mind he has some real problems. :headache:

SLO- didn't get to work on the letter as planned. Got a phone call from oldest DD and had to help her with her "latest" problem. Sure wish she could get the divorce done and over with then get that idiot out of her life. He is giving her so much grief. He made his choice by cheating on her and abandoning her so why won't he leave her alone. :confused3 He is dragging his heals with the divorce. Plus making a lot of threats.

ID- see the movie yet? I am planning on going to see it as soon as I can.

Sorry everyone my mind is preoccupied, and I am not thinking straight. My mind is in Oklahoma, where I wish I could be right now so I could wring someone's neck. Everyone have a great day!

It's finally Saturday!!! :cool1:

Got up this morning and made a huge breakfast for everyone. I haven't done that in ages. I made Paula Deen's Gorilla Bread, it's soooooo good. Better than monkey bread by far. And I made a potato/bacon/egg skillet. So easy and good too.

Lauren got rewarded for getting all A's on her report card this quarter. She was sent to the Counselor's office, along with other all A report card kids, and told they are all going on a field trip in a couple weeks to the local children's museum and getting a free pizza lunch too while their there.

Hunter got all A's too, but no field trip for him....he's a little jealous of his sister. :)
I'm really proud of both of them!!! :goodvibes

Lauren did well at the dentist yesterday getting her crown. We are not sure if we like the color of it though, it seems lighter than the sample we chose from. So the dentist temp. attached it and we will make a decision as to if we want to keep it or get another one made.

slo I always gently push both my kids to do their best. At times Lauren can give me hard time, but I remind here that if she wants to go to college for what she wants to do (yes, she's already chosen a field) then she is going to have to do a good job. Especially since she is hoping to earn a scholarship through DAR (Daughter's of the American Revolution). I think I mentioned before that we found out we are descendants of John Smith.

John I had no idea Hugo's was owned by Gibsons!

paint Hoping you make a ton of tips tonight!

Time to run errands! Have a great day everyone!!!
