Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi everyone!! :wave2:

My throat is starting to feel better...finally. It was starting to feel better the other day but then I got an attack of acid reflux 2 nights in a row and that just killed my throat even worse. :sad2:

DH's mom is back in the hosptial. She cannot catch a break. She has been really sick and dehydrated and nothing was really helping. And now she has a really bad kidney infection. The cancer is making her body so weak that she is having all these bad things happen to her. She went into the hosp on Wed afternoon and had to spend the night in the ER because no regular rooms were avail. She got a regular room this morning. They are saying she should be released tomorrow. Basically they are just pumping her full of meds....again.

For irish dancer and anyone else worrying about their job or a job of a family member, I totally feel your pain and frustration. This economy stinks! We felt the first signs of it back in Oct 2007 when not only did DH's job slow down but so did our own business. Big companies were (and still are) pulling out of doing any building in the Chicago area, and all around the country.
Google was to build a huge building downtown...not any more. Microsoft was building huge warehouse size data storage buildings...they built one phase of it out of the four they expected to do. I could go on and on.
Something I haven't shared here...........DH had been laid off from his company since Nov of 2007!! He worked a total of approx 14 weeks last year for various contractors. And this past Dec 2008 we closed our own business after being in business for 14 years. :guilty: There is no work around here for construction workers. Those who do have work are extremely LUCKY!

So irish dancer I pray that your DH doesn't loose his job.

Well, I am going to try again today to make this frame delivery.
Luckily, we've had no inclement weather, so it won't be a problem:thumbsup2

Tonight, Kevin and I were invited for a complimentary dinner at the new Texas Roadhouse in our town. The restaurant officially opens on the 23rd, but tonight and tomorrow night, they are giving free meals to people so they can practice. I think I was invited because they are on The Chamber of Commerce with me, which was very nice of them!!! Kevin was invited for tomorrow night because he is a town employee (water board, special events, and FD), but we aren't going because we are going out to dinner with his parents that night. So, I"m looking forward to it, because Kevin and I don't go out very often without the girls, so it'll be a nice little date:goodvibes

paint - Have fun this weekend celebrating your sisters 21st bday
**I went to The Hoop Dee Do when I was 12, and I remember enjoying it. I've seen many many DISers discuss how much they enjoy this show, so I think it will be a great choice for you:thumbsup2
**My printer stops working too when one color is out - so annoying!!!!:headache:

geffric - Can you clone that pig????:rotfl:

DG - Have a safe trip to Iowa :car: I hope the weather is cleared up when you need to head home.:wizard:

Mac - We received very little snow, but received alot of ice. Kevin said the roads were terrible when he left at 6:15am, so he could understand the delay, and even the cancellation. The trouble is, is all these towns can't afford salt, and now it's affecting the kids going to school - very frustrating!!! I wish the school would take away spring break, and they should of had the kids go to school last Friday and Monday to make up all these days. Stephanie now has officially 1 week added into June - I don't like that:sad2:

momto1 - My drive to work is literally through my subdivision and across a busy street. I live less than a mile away from work, which is soooooo nice!!!! Kevin's drive was more than an hour, which is good for inclement weather - normally he's 2+ hours in bad weather.

Crissup - How is your back feeling? I hope you are doing better:wizard:

Bunchkin - I'm sorry you weren't feeling well:guilty: I hope you keep getting better:wizard:
**I am so sorry to hear of Tony's mom :guilty: Please give him a hug from me  and tell him that I will keep his mom in my thoughts and prayers:angel: Please continue to keep us posted on how she is doing.
**Continued hugs to you both on everything that is going on  I think of you and Tony all the time - all the time!!! I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers that everything will improve for you soon

Leigh - :wave2:

Katie just woke up - poor thing had a bad dream, so I gotta run
Have a good day!!!

momto- I just notice your ticker...are you trying to work up the courage to go on EE? It is so fun! My kids love it, too!
mac- The two tier thing annoys me at HDDR. If you are upstairs, it should be one credit! Once, when I was little, we were on the first floor, center table. It was awesome! They danced around us, one of the girls sat on my dad's lap, and my uncle got to be an indian princess in the show.
DGal- Have a safe trip. I hate long car drives! We used to drive to FL every year, but then again, that was before car seats. I used to lay in the back seat reading!
gef- Love the calorie pig!
slo- Have a nice date night! DH and I are going to dinner with my parents tonight before meeting my sister for drinks. Should be fun!
Lots of little, errand running to do today. We also have a plumber coming. Some pipe in our basement has been leaking, a steady drip, for a week. I put a bucket under it! Ahh, the joys of owning a nice, old house! Pray it doesn't cost too much....that's my WDW money!:rotfl2:

Slo ~ That is our favorite place! We will get take-out from there just about as often as we eat inside.

Bunchkin ~ You are all in my continued thoughts.

Off to Lauren's MRI. Really hoping we can get to the bottom of all this pain.

Morning all!! Finally a day to stay at home. I am going to try to get into that play room today and clean out old toys for donation before the kids come home again and whine that is their "favorite"!:rotfl2:
Bunchkin, sorry to hear Tony's mom is back in the hospital. And also that he isn't able to work at home. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
This economy is horrible. I am just glad there is no lack of babies being conceived! I think with so many people out of work, I will be busier than ever. They have nothing else to do now. At least if DH gets laid off from his job, I will have the ability to make up the difference (again). That happened to us in 2002.
Paint, good luck with your plumber. We just finished with plumber stuff at my mom's last week. $500 later, her leaking pipes are new. (but the wall that was removed to get to the pipes now needs to be repaired.:sad2: )
Slo, enjoy your date night at Texas Roadhouse. Let me know what you think of the food there. As I drive by it, I wonder how it would be.
Hi Leigh. How are things going for you these days?
Crissup, how's the side?
piglet, much :wizard: for your DD and her MRI today. I hope you get some answers.
geffric, send that calorie pig over for a visit. Maybe he can clean out the kids candy cabinet for me!!!:rotfl: That would remove the temptations for me.
momto1, you will love Everest. It isn't all that bad. (as long as you don't do it 4 times in a row.:rolleyes1 ) Enjoy the day with your son if you decide to take the day off next week. It is awesome to have a day when not everyone else if off. The museums aren't crowded and you can actually enjoy the time wandering around. When we went to the Legoland place Tuesday, there were only 2 school groups there and a few other families. We had the factory part to ourselves and the movie portion had maybe 40 people sitting in it.
DG, enjoy some time with your DH if you decide to go to Iowa. I hope the bad weather they are calling for decides not to come. I have to work this weekend and I hate driving in that mess.
Hi Mac! Hope you are having a nice day. Stay away from the freezer!;)
Later all. I need to get busy with some toys!!

good friday morning chicagoland homies........

are you all as thrilled as i am for the snow today? :rolleyes1
you should know by now my hatred for that stuff....

lots of chi town homies on my prayer list. i will continue to have you on it until i hear otherwise.

Bunchkin: what can i say? when it rains, it pours. you have had a tremendous amount of misfortune in your life the past few years.
i wish i had words of comfort for you my friend.
i hope your throat does not get worse. i'm sure you are miserable trying to swallow, talk, and eat when it is inflamed like that. maybe ice chips will help soothe it. i didn't know your business went under or dh was out of work the past year and a half. i'm sorry to hear that.
i know the economy is bad. i really hope to hear soon that Tony has found more work in this area.
hugs to Tony and you for his mother. it is a sad and frightening situation.
prayers for her continued.

Crissup: how's the side? do you know when you will be able to get back to work? hopefully you are on the mend as i type.
btw, when i run out of the second ink i'm still good. being the neurotic person that i am, i sometimes just buy 3 or 4 of them and have a stockpile.
being blonde does that to me.....

slo: the kids in our district did have school on presidents day. they have to make up the snow days. the schools here don't like to extend the school year unless the 6 fall back dates are all used up for snow days. Casmir Pulaski day will not be a holiday for them this year. the kids will do another make up day then.

texas roadhouse, mr mac and i went to the one on hwy 50 in kenosha.
we weren't thrilled with it. service was horrid the night we went.
we were there at 5 to avoid the saturday night crowd and service sucked big time. my steak was sent back 2x that night. hope it is better where you are going. i would think a brand new place would strive harder to be great.

Piglet: hope you find the answer when Lauren has the MRI. keep us posted.

paint: have fun with sis. i can't even remember my 21st bd. i must be old. no comments from the peanut gallery....

DG: go to Iowa, it's an experience..........take pics and give us a report.

Lori: your right leg? is it still sore.......now i have someone to talk about right legs with........

Tigggeerrnnnn: as long as you are not asking all of us here to have a baby so you can stay busy at work, i'm kewl with that...:thumbsup2

think i should put a lock on my freezer?

Geffric: i found your pig..........

8.gif

if i missed you, sorry, get you on the second round later.....

/
Piglet.. when you you find out the results?? Does your doctor call or do you have to call ??

Bunchy - sorry about Tony's Mom.. hopefully she is as comfrtable as possible and painfree.. it just sucks being ill like that..
I am so sorry to here about your business and Toy's job.. this economy sucks.. I was laid off in Jnauary ( yeah me and 600,000 of my closest friends LOL) the market is tough.. we have done a budget and YIKES>> it is not pretty..and it was hard to email Eric's track coach and tell him that I could donate $$ the team but I could give of my time if he needed help.

MAc and everyone that comment on the calorie pig.. yep it comes in really handy.. I'll bring it to the next meet to pass around..

DG Iowa okay.. ( since that is where Geoff is going to school) Hope the weather clears for you.

SLO - I like your commute.. that is awesome..

Ok I am sick of winter.. when will it be spring already!!

Hi gang! TGIF! I guess my new ticker is a little confusing - we are going in September to do the Expedition Everest 5K challenge. It's inaugural year was last year. DS and DH did it. DS did great - I was never so excited in my life! This year ds will do it and wants me to do it, too. Please understand - I have never, ever, ever in my life done anything like this! This is way not me. But, to give my ds a lesson on setting goals and achieveing something I am gonna try to do the 5K. My bet with dh last year was if he did the 5K, I would ride Everst. He did and I did and I don't like roller coasters. I was about crying when I got off.

Slo -Love, love, love your commute to work. Mine is about 50 minutes on the best of days.

Bunchkin - So sorry to hear about Tony's mom, the job situation and your business. I am sure better days will be ahead. It sounds like Tony does construction? Does he do any side type jobs?

Piglet - I hope the test results lead to your daughters healing!

DG - Have fun in Iowa!

Mac - Nope, not my right leg but my left. It all stems from leg pain the devoped 12 years ago when I was pregnant with ds. It comes and goes and has come to stay this week.

Tiggerrn - I hope you got the toys cleaned out! It is so much easier to do yourself and withouth other opinions.

Good weekend to everyone!
Lori

Hi all!!

Looks like DH's mom might get out the hosp. tomorrow now. Some crazy nurse was nagging her about not having her chemo treatments this past week but she obviously doesn't know that you CANNOT have them if your immune system is down. My MIL goes to a cancer center out in Vegas, but she's at a regular hosp. getting treated for this infection she has.

Thanks for all the concern for us. I appreciate it.
We are hoping that by this summer, according to things DH has heard at the local union hall, that maybe he can come back and work. The head guy at the union hall did say though that if Chicago doesn't get the Olympic bid that there will be even less work here. :sad2:
But for now at least he is working full time. It's just unfortunate it can't be here. He isn't alone in this situation though, there are a lot of guys he's working with that are from all over the country!! It's really so sad.

One of the top groups of people to have been laid off this past year was construction workers.
Our subdivision has a lot of construction workers residing here. You can't imagine how many of them are not working. There are more cars/vans parked in driveways all day long. More houses for sale too.

piglet I sure do hope that these tests finally help find out what is wrong with your DD.

slo The kids and I just took my mom to Texas Roadhouse for dinner last Friday. We enjoy it! It can be really noisy though at times, and you better like country music too!

paint Hope you can get your pipes fixed soon. We love HHR!!! We've been three times! Once we got to sit right behind the piano and banjo player. They were a hoot!

momto1 We did do side jobs but since we closed our business and DH is now out of town we aren't doing them any more.

geffric We know so many people that have pulled their kids from activities and clubs. I pulled the kids out of karate for the winter months but I'm hoping they can join back in before the summer session starts. Hoping the track coach will except your offer of help!

mac We've had a lot of bad but also a lot of good. All you can do is take it as it comes and play with the cards life deals us.

Hi to everyone else!!

Bunchkin I hope Tony's mom get out of the hospital soon. I am sorry you are having such a bad time.

I hope this snow misses us. I would rather see the brown grass thank you very much.

This morning I was driving to work when Alex calles me to let me know we have more pets (mice). I told him don't tell me how cute they are and that they followed him home we are NOT keeping them. Well he was not amused at my joke. But I can't call in to work cause I have mice. :rolleyes1 Anyway fast trak to this evening. I go upstairs to put away some cleaning stuff I bought. I peek in on what the cat did while I was at work. I thought oooh stuff she had another hairball. Well no hairball, she finally has decided to earn her keep :cheer2: 2 dead mice. And the bonus not on my chair :cheer2: :cheer2:

this past Dec 2008 we closed our own business after being in business for 14 years.

That sucks! It's bad enough to have so much other bad luck going on, and then to have to close your business on top of it just hurts.

Crissup - How is your back feeling? I hope you are doing better

Well, it's been getting better. The other day, when you were talking about holding in your sneezes, I thought "I never do that". So, yesterday afternoon, I'm getting ready to leave work and suddenly, I had to sneeze (I've been keeping myself from sneezing since last Friday). Anyway, I was still nervous I was going to hurt myself again and at the last second... I held in the sneeze! :scared1: Ouch!! Yep, it's hurting again. Not as bad as last week, but it's been bothering me all day.

Crissup, how's the side?

Well, the brakes started grinding on my Durango last weekend. I babied them until Wednesday night when I finally decided I needed to park it until I could fix it. So, I needed urgently to find time to fix them and finally had time this afternoon when I got off early (I had already bought the parts in anticipation of a free moment). Anyway, needless to say, all that hunker over inside my wheel wells has got my lower back hurting. Sheesh! I'm telling you, I just can't win for losing.

Crissup: how's the side? do you know when you will be able to get back to work? hopefully you are on the mend as i type.

Actually, I've been back to work since Tuesday. I did end up staying home Monday, but worked anyway from my loft. But, yes, I am getting better. While it's bothering me a bit now, it's significantly better than it was last weekend.

Thanks for all the well wishes and thoughts from everyone. It really does feel nice knowing so many people are thinking about you. :)

Good morning! I can not believe it is snowing again. I was hoping we get almost no snow but I was wrong again.

I still am planning on going out this morning for a little while.

John Take care. While this snow is fluffy there's a lot. Hire a kid in the nieghborhood.

Slo I hope your were spared this time.

Everyone take care it looks slippery.

Morning..

DH shoveled this am.. said it was about 6 inches.. we are allowing a long time to get to Woodfield to the DVC thing at 10 am.. Geoff will have to shovel once we leave to get the rest of the driveway.. Since it is still snowing, you can hardly tell it was shoveled.

Hersey - glad the cat earned her keep this week..

Yesterday was Eric's band concert at Elk Grove. It went well, but IMHO they do need to add a few songs to their play list..

Hi, all.

Still keeping my fellow Chicago Dis-friends in my thoughts & prayers...

We went to the Chicago DVC thing at Woodfield yesterday. We got some fun little prizes, and were able to take some pictures with Mickey, Minnie and Tinkerbell. They also had deserts available. We did spend some time talking with a DVC rep (guide?), but once again, decided it just isn't for us, at this time. Hope anyone going today has a great time!

Everyone stay safe, drive easy, and try to keep warm.

Hello from Iowa! :flower3: Mike and I made it safely but the drive was the longest. It took us over an hour just to get out of the city! The Edens was awful! Then as we crossed the Mississippi, it started snowing and visibility was not so good! Alas, we made it here around midnight or so. This is the town where our college is so it's nice to be back and visit! Everyone is so nice! Well, gonna go grab so bfast so I'll hopefully check back with you peeps later or on Monday. Tomorrow is our drive back! Have a nice weekend! :flower3:

Geffric You will have to let me know how the woodfield thing is. I'm back home my windshield wiper arm is broke, luckily it happened just a block or two from home so I turned around. Not a good day to go without wiping. Have fun.

I guess now I'll clean the house  No disney for me today.

greetings.. I talked with John and CarolAnn a bit and we looked for Hersey... you were missed!! but I agree it is too snowy and slushy out there... it was fun..got a nice DVC folder, binoculars, lots of rice crispie treats and a passport holder and DVC luggage tags... but at $112 per point.. DH and I said no way.. although the discouts did make it tempting..
lots of good desserts.. Hey MAC I ate the fruit ;) :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: - lots of strawberries but then I ate the brownies.. YUMMY..

DG have fun in Iowa..
well back to do laundy and play pick up the house..

Geffric John Carol ANN/B] Sorry I missed you all. I didn't think it was a good idea to go with a broken wiper. My friends husband fixed it for me. All it needed was to be tightened.
