Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hello!

Made a new dish last night in my attempt to cook something new and kid friendly. Everyone loved it, but DS was dragging his feet admitting he liked it. He has such issues when you serve him new foods. Ugh!
It was a Kraft mac and cheese pizza dish. So easy and really yummy.
Here's the recipe if anyone is interested. It looked much better in person! LOL!! And I used more seasoning then they called for, including salt and pepper.

All this talk of Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations!!! :goodvibes

Thanksgiving here will be: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potato souffle, corn casserole, cherry fluff, chocolate chip pie and pumpkin pie.

We're hoping to put up our trees this weekend.
And I think either DH or myself will be going to do some shopping on Black Friday. TRU has some great deals!

slo I bet your store looks great!
Hope you get all your cleaning done!! Enlist the help of your family!! :thumbsup2

Hersey What kind of desserts are you bringing?

irishdancer I hope your mom's surgery went well.

mac Thanks for the listings!!!

Stitchfans Good luck to your DD! I hope she gets the job!!

paint Are you already decorated or is that last years pics?

Gotta run and get my clone....I mean DS!!! ;)

Hi gang! No Christmas decorating yet for me but I did move the LR furniture to its Christmas locations in preparation for the decorating day. Oh, I did put 2 tiny wreaths around the squirrel figurine heads in the kitchen and hung a glitter bell from the dining area celing fan/light.

We are going to my cousins in North Plainfield for Thanksgiving. All I have to take is Hawain Salad. I am stopping by Aldis' tonight for the mandarin organges and cocount. I have everything else.

DH bought a new TV this afternoon. Ours went out several weeks ago and I refused to buy until Black Friday when I knew there would be deals. After scouring the online ads, he went to Best Buy to get one this afternoon. The same one on sale on Friday. So, no fighting the crowds for him on Friday! I am sure ds is happy today!

Slo - DH was glad to meet you too. His day turned out OK due to a few bigger sales. The next day he did a show in Matteson and someone from Dyer came by and bought from him the next day. So, cheap advertising does work! I bet your store looks great!

Bunchkin - The recipe sounds good. I am always looking for new recipes. This week I made Upside Down Pizza that ds was turning his nose up at. Then after he ate he said I had to make it again.

ID - Hope your mom's surgery went well.

Paint - Your house looks great. Painting is nothing I enjoy doing! You are braver than I.

Hi to everyone else! Have a great evening!
Lori

Don't you hate when kids do that??
My DD wasn't as bad as my son is and it drives us all crazy!! It's like dealing with my FIL some days!!
My son has 'issues' with ground beef. Luckily though, my DD has gotten past most of her food issues and will eat just about any thing now....thank goodness!!

Congrats on the new tv and getting a good deal on it. :thumbsup2 We've been kinda looking for a flat screen as we still have a tube tv. But it's still in good condition, so I cannot see getting rid of it yet.

I miss Aldi!! There are none out here and I really liked quite a few items they have there. For instance, they have a really good Gorgonzola crumbled cheese I like to use and it's only around $1.99 I think. I just bought some today at the grocery store and it cost me $6.49!!!!!! Yikes!!!!

OMGosh.....I had this super long post that took me 20 minutes to do, and when I went to "copy" it so I wouldn't lose it, I hit a wrong button, and lost the whole thing

:badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc:

I have absolutly no time to redo it, so hugs to everyone:grouphug::grouphug:

Paint - one of the things I lost was your receipe -I'll try to do it sometime soon.

Gotta run

Good morning everyone. DD has an early dismissal today so I don't have much time on the computer. Besides I have to do some pre-cooking for tomorrow today. :) Spoke to oldest DD last night and she said she got the job. :cheer2: She will actually be making more than her cheating husband.

Get this though. She has mentioned often that they are slow in Oklahoma, well she was not kidding. it will take 2 weeks before she can do the drug test, and she was told she most likely would not be able to start actually working until about 4-8 weeks. Then of course once she does start working they have that hold to pay for another two weeks. :headache:

Granted her friend is letting her stay in her spare bedroom rent free, plus promised to feed DD, but what about gas to get around in her car, plus money to pay her cell phone bill? Like I told her the other bills will be there and will not be going anywhere, so when she can pay them great, but the things she needs now. :sad2: As usual her stupid cheap father won't lend her or give her a dime, and she tapped us out. For crying out loud my ex makes twice as much as us put together. He can easily afford it. But he told her she is turning 29 and needs to make it on her own. It's not like she asked to be cheated on, abandoned, and loss her job.

She says she has enough cat food for her cats, and other things she needs for them, sure hope she is right. Would really hurt her if she had to give them up just because she didn't have the money to take care of them. She has had them all for many years. But like her father told her she will have to make many hard sacrifices, and giving them up most likely will be one of them. If nothing else, yes we can at least send her a little more if it comes down to that. We will see.

Bunchkin, Momto1- don't feel bad, you are not alone. Both DD do the same thing to me. Sometimes they like a certain food item, and gobble it up. I will make it again, and they turn their noses up and say why did you make that? I don't like that.:laughing: Drives me bonkers, but the know the rule- you eat what is on the table or go hungry. Either that fend for yourself.

ID- hope all went well for your mom. Sure is scary when a loved one goes in for surgery.

Paintnolish- yeah, I also know about divorce headaches, after all I did divorce DD's father. Have to admit though my ex is nothing compared to her soon to be ex. My son in law is such a jerk. He is going way out of his way to make her as miserable as possible. Wish he would just "blow away" off the face of the earth. I give you a lot of credit. I sure hate painting. The smell always give me a :headache:

Well- hope everyone else is having a great day, and a big hello to you all. Have to start my pre cooking for tomorrow. I sure love to cook, and of course EAT all that great food. No sun, sorry, but at least we are alive and able to enjoy getting around. Take Care all!

Bunchkin - I am having said Grogonzola in a salad with dried cranberries for lunch today! Yummy! I also like the Aldi Feta. I would miss Aldi's, too.

Lori

Hi gang! Just a quick drop in today. I have tons of work to wrap up so I can leave work early today - hopefully. I want to avoid the Thanksgiving drive home. It is usually awful.

Slo - I get so frustrated when I write posts and then poof they are gone!

Stitch - Congrats to your dd on getting the job. Hopefully, she will be able to start sooner than later. I pray that she can make ends meet between now and then.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I hope your day if filled with thanks, familiy, and goodness.

Lori

Hey, all! Ready for turkey day? I have the house just about clean. My sister and her dh and then a friend and his dd are coming tonight, in just a few hours. Just waiting on the kitchen floor to dry and sheets to come out of the dryer.
Xmas Decor- Yes, that is this year. I like to have them up on Tgiving so everyone can enjoy them. Plus, once break is over, it is one week until finals then right after that is WDW! I wouldn't be putting them up until the 19th! Much too late!
Stichfans- I always say I wish a crack would open up in the earth and xh would fall in. He had his psycho outburts but has leveled off to mostly a business like relationship.
Slo- Thanks for trying!
Bunchkin- The picky one in our house is dh. He doesn't like veggies crunchy (no steamed or fresh). He hates tomatoes and onions.
ID- DD is a fitful sleeper, too. She talks in her sleep and still gets up quite a bit. She came into my room on Tues. morning (6 am) to tell me she has a nightmare that she stepped on a wire!

Okay. Gotta hop in the shower and then pick up a few things that the store was out of last night!

Hi guys! Happy Thanksgiving Eve!! House is nearly ready, just need to give the kitchen floor a quick wash and a quick swipe at the half bath. Pie for tomorrow is baked and serving pieces and tablecloth are ready. Going to be a busy day tomorrow!

DMom's surgery went well, went to see her today. The pain meds she is on must be pretty powerful because she was pretty out of it. I think it kind of freaked the kids because she was out of it and didn't really recognize them. Hope tomorrow will be better.

paint - I can see why you have your decorations up already but wow, you are on the ball! I wanted to decorate this weekend but we'll be at BILs cabin in WI so it will have to wait.

momto1 - hope you got out of work early, DH did which is great. Unfortunately I have to brave the traffic to take DD12s friend to a half way meeting point, she lives way on the far south side and her parents meet me at the Hinsdale Oasis. ugh!
*Congrats on the new TV, we were going to get one too with DHs discount but decided to use the $$ for bills. Sometimes it's no fun being a grown up. ;)

Stitchfans - YEA for your DD :cheer2: Congrats on getting the job! :yay: I hope she gets to start sooner or that her money lasts her until she does.

slo - that has happened to me before too, now what I do is frequently copy my post so if it disappears I can retrieve most of it.

Bunchkin - I have some picky eaters here too. Mostly DS9 but his issues are texture which is part of his Autism.

Going to head out now with DDs friend so I can hopefully get back in time for dinner. Have a great night all! :santa:

Flying by.....
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!/SIZE]Hope everyone has a safe, happy holiday and enjoys their time with their loved ones.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!

I probably won't have time tomorrow to say that, so I thought I'd do it now! :goodvibes

I hope everyone has a great day with family and friends.

Well, my bad knee is killing me from standing practically all day (I don't think I mentioned here that I did something to my knee and it's been killing me for a week now). I got a lot of cooking out of the way for tomorrow. I made a breakfast casserole for tomorrow morning. Also made sweet potato casserole and corn casserole too. Covered them and put them in the fridge in the garage. I love having 2 fridges! Just need to pull them out tomorrow, let them sit for about 1/2 hour to bring them up to semi room temp(at least that's what all the cook books and chefs say to do!! ;) ), and then bake them.
Still need to make cherry fluff with DD. It's her favorite and insists on helping make it every time.
And I need to make dessert, bu that won't take too long either.

And on top of that today was change sheets day and DS had a Thanksgiving family event at his school this afternoon that we all went to.

I'm beat! :faint:

FIL is coming over to eat tomorrow, DH will go get him and bring him here as he would get extremely lost trying to drive here on his own.
He doesn't want to come over though. He would rather sit at home and be miserable. He is such a crab!!!

paint I'll give you my corn casserole recipe too. It's Paula Deen's recipe.
1 can of corn, drained
1 can cream of corn
1 box corn muffin mix- like Jiffy
1 stick of butter, melted
1 cup of sour cream
salt and pepper
1 to 1 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar
And here's where I stray from the recipe...like I tend to do! ;)
I add a few crumbled pieces of bacon and some chopped green onions I sauteed in the bacon fat!

Bake in a greased 9x13 (or similar) at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until brown, top with cheese and bake for another 5-10 minutes.

irishdancer I think that meds can have a different effect on older people. I know that my mom avoids taking things because they make her feel out of it. I hope your mom is out of the hospital soon.
I think a lot of kids have texture issues with food actually and it must be even harder for kids with autism.

Stitchfans Congrats to your DD!! I hope she doesn't have to wait too long before she can start! Thank goodness for her friend! She's a keeper!! :thumbsup2

paint With your schedule I don't blame you for decorating so early. Are you having overnight guests?

momto1 Gorgonzola with cranberries!! YUM! I make a salad that they have at Lou Malnati's. Greens, gorgonzola, fried salami, and their dressing. I omit the tomato as DH doesn't like them. I have 4 bottles of their dressing in my pantry!!!! LOL!! When DH went back to Chicago in Sept with his dad, he went and bought them at their Tinley Park location and brought them back for us!
Hope you got to leave work early!!

I should finish my cooking!

Sunny and 67 here tomorrow.....not that I'm bragging or anything!!! :rotfl:

I hope you all have a wonderful day today!!!!!

Pretty soon we'll all be doing this....

I up early because Stephanie and I always go to 9am Mass today.
I am reading at Mass, and Stephanie is serving. This is one of my favorite Masses to go to, because the canter/singer always does a beautiful solo at the end that makes me misty eyed. This Mass really makes Thanksgiving complete for me :)

Speaking of Mass, I talked to my Priest on Tuesday, when I had to pick up Stephanie from CCD, and he thought I didn't go to Mass on Saturday because of my upsettness with that movie being shown. I laughed and told him I wouldn't miss Mass because of that, but it was because of that Christmas show I had the store in. He said that because I basically never miss Mass, he was a little worried, I assured him, that everything was fine:thumbsup2

I forgot to tell you that the teacher did call and leave a message, and she basically put the blame on the kids, which I didn't like, but I'm going to let it go, since the my Priest agreed with me, and the movie didn't contine. The teacher wasn't at CCD on Tuesday, and I'm curious if it was because of this, or something else. She said that if I wanted her to step down, that she would understand, but I don't believe she needs to do that, but maybe another parent said she should. So this is still a "to be continued!!!"

I'm officially ready for Thanksgiving here, which is good.
I have a little more house to clean after church, and then everything is done:thumbsup2 Our 3 bathroom house is down to 1 bathroom (my bathroom) because the other ones are clean, and once they are clean, they are not allowed to be used until the guests come over - I'm so weird when it comes to that:laughing:

While I'm at church, Kevin will get the turkey in the oven, so I don't have to worry about that:thumbsup2 Then while that is cooking I will get the sides ready - busy, exciting day!!!!:goodvibes

Stitchfans - I'm glad your DD got the job :cheer2:
I wish things would move faster for her, but at least she got the job :cheer2:
Keep us posted on how she is doing!!!

ID - I"m glad your mom's surgery went well. I hope she has a quick recovery :wizard:
**I do "copy" it, but when I went to copy it, was when I accidentally hit something else other than "copy" I was so mad!!!!!:headache: Hopefully I'll do better today :upsidedow

Bunchkin - Your Corn dish a slightly different than mine - I don't add the cheese, and I put mine in 1 1/2 qt casserole dish, so mine is round and deep. I'll have to try adding the cheese sometime :thumbsup2
**I hope your knee feels better:wizard: Did you twist it?

To everyone else - :wave2:

Time for me to go get ready for church.
I hope you all have a wonderful day today!!!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Stitch: I'm very sad to hear about your daughter and her cats. I have tons of cat food coupons and such laying around here that I could send to you to send to her. The petsmart here takes expired so I keep everything.

Whoever makes the corn casserole recipe...it's amazing!

Enjoy your day everyone.

I hope everyone day is great!

I am busy making my desserts for later today.

Slo Sorry this saga is still continuing.

Stitch :cheer2: that your daughter got a job. I am sure that will help her feel better. Everthing has a way of working out.

Bunch I hope you have a great Turkeyday I miss you guys. I woke to a slushy substance on the car this morning nothing on the ground cause it has been warm (50's) lately.

I better get back to my baking.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Just popping in to say Hello!
Thank you everyone who sent well wishes to DD. Sure wish she was home today instead of sitting in her apartment alone eating whatever she makes. Oh well... as said things will look up and brighter for her in the future. Like Hersey said, everything always has a way of working out. So true!

Have a great day. Talk to you all tomorrow!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Turkey is in the oven, broccoli casserole and sweet potato casserole are ready for the oven. Enjoying a short lull in the cooking.

Made a quick visit to my mom this morning. She's about 75% back to normal, still a bit confused though. She had a nice mum plant on her windowsil but couldn't remember who brought it. Also asked her if DSis (that's a nurse) had been there, she told me "yes, Peggy picked me up a drove me here today" :confused3 Kind of hard to see someone that used to be so vibrant and talkative having such a hard time.

I hope everyone has a great day! Enjoy your dinners! :flower3:
