Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Okay..I have a vent this morning!!!

I picked Stephanie up from CCD last night, and she says to me, "I'm watching a rated R movie in CCD!" I asked her to elaborate, and she said they are watching The Passion of the Christ :eek: I sorta freaked out, because that movie is SO SO graphic, and I don't allow Stephanie to see rated R movies, and I don't appreciate her teacher doing this without my permission :mad: So I left a message at the directors office, and I also sent our priest an email expressing my unhappiness. I told them both that I want Stephanie to have an excused absence, or go to a different class for the duration of the movie - I don't care what she does, but I do notwant her watching that movie!!!!! A permission slip should have been sent home, or a phone call should have been made - I never would have approved this:sad2: So mad!!!!
Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE!! That movie had me in tears and angry besides!!! Totally should have been approved by parents before the kids watched! OH!!!

:woohoo:Got the temp seasonal job and Started at TDS last night. :cheer2: My feet hurt. but the shoes I ordered came today, so now I am ready for the season...
Congrats! Try Crocs. ;)

Thanks for all your replys about my vent yesterday.
The director never returned my call, but I know she knows about what happened, and isn't happy :sad2: I know this, because I called my priests office, to see if he got my email, and I spoke with the church secretary, and she said it was his day off, and he won't see my email until tomorrow (today now). I sent the email to her first, and then had her forward it, and she was shocked by what I wrote. She spoke with the director, and told her that I wrote the priest, which is fine. Another mom has also been in contact (she knew about this after I contacted her about it) because she is unhappy too. I wish the director had called me back, but maybe she wants to talk to the teacher first, so she has a resolution to tell me. The church secretary completely agrees with me, and I'm sure the priest will too ::yes:: The saga continues.......

Stitchfans, momto1, and Kim - :wave2:

geffric - I hope your new shoes help your feet be more comfortable:wizard: How many hours a week are you working?

Bunchkin - Thanks for the coupon info.:)

paint - I purposly never watched this movie either until last year. It was on cable so I decided to watch it. When Good Friday came, I completely had the images of this movie in my head, because the movie does show how terrible his Crusifixition was (it is suppossed to very realistic to events during this time. Not just Christs, but other people that went through this). This made Good Friday more sad for me, but I guess, that's how you are suppossed to feel. It's a hard movie to sit through, but I'm actually glad I watched it. It's just not Stephanie's time to see it :sad2: Her time is when she's ready to see it, just like I waited until I was ready to see it. Nothing should be forced on your child unless they are in drivers ed, and your child is watching those movies about what happens to people in accidents due to talking on a cell phone, screwing around, driving drunk, and etc. Those are the only graphic movies I would allow my child to watch in a school setting.

Time to go - this is another early day.
I go to work early, so I can leave early :thumbsup2

Have a good day today!!!

Good Morning everyone. Nothing new or exciting to report here. Same ole same ole. :laughing:Let me check and see what everyone else has been doing and saying.

SLO- I also agree. Passion of Christ is an excellent movie to inform us what He went through, but it is too much for a younger person. DD is 15 and I am just now thinking about letting her watch it.

Geffric- my old job in the student cafeteria was rough being on my feet the entire time. The only time I got to sit down was when I went to the bathroom. Sure hope your new shoes help.

Bunchkin- those coupons were nice. thanks.

Paintnolish- I can feel for you. Many years ago I also worked and went to school, plus had oldest DD to worry about. It is rough, but is doable. You just walk around feeling like a zombie. I give you a lot of credit.

Hi Kim, Momto1, Tiggern, Piglet. Hope I did not miss anyone. Have a great day in spite of the sunless skies, and very cool weather.

:woohoo:Got the temp seasonal job and Started at TDS last night. :cheer2: My feet hurt. but the shoes I ordered came today, so now I am ready for the season...
.

Congratulations! I am sure you will love it. I need to get new shoes too. The ones I got made me feet worse. You are working at Woodfield, right?

Slo ~ That is just plain wrong. Not only are they way to young for that movie, a permission slip should have been sent home.

Happy Thursday to everyone else! :hippie:

I posted this on the DISMeets board, but wanted to make sure that all of my Chicago DIS friends got the news:

The Mount Union College Choir will be performing a free concert at Grace Church in Naperville at 7:30PM on Thursday January 7th, 2010. I attended their concert last night in Canton (Ohio) and the music was outstanding. Not only the music, but Dr. Scott Dorsey puts on quite a show as he directs his students as they sing arrangements ranging from traditional Latin to contemporary.

This is one holiday concert that you do not want to miss. Although I doubt that I will make the trip to Naperville, I will take the opportunity to see this performance at least two more times here in Ohio.

The Mount Union College Choir
Dr. Scott Dorsey, Conductor
The Mount Union Choir traces its roots to 1896. One of five choral organizations at Mount Union College, the Mount Union Choir is the College’s premiere choral ensemble. The Choir has enjoyed an international reputation, performing and earning critical acclaim in China, India, Malaysia, Norway, and Turkey, among many other nations throughout Europe and the Far East. They have been honored with a number of prestigious invitations, including concerts at the White House, for the American Choral Directors Association, and performances before three separate global gatherings of the United Methodist Church.

Did I mention that my daughter Sarah is a member of the Mount Union College Choir?

Hi gang! :wave2:

Did a lot of Christmas shopping and other household shopping at Target today. I had $60 worth of coupons!!! No kidding!! :goodvibes Used the coupons in their holiday flier/Sunday ad (same flier) and coupons off of their web site plus coupons I linked here. Remember that they will allow you to use their coupon plus a manufactures coupon too. :thumbsup2 One example: $20 games I got for $10. Also, the new Monopoly & Scrabble card games I got for FREE!
The cashier and the lady behind me could not believe how my total went down when she was done ringing up all the coupons.

I  saving money!!

slo I hope that someone from the church calls you back. that would have just infuriated me!!!

geffric Good luck at the new job!!! And I hope the new shoes help.

paint How far is your walk to school?
Very funny what your DD said!!!!

Howdy to everyone else!!! :flower3:

Did I mention that my daughter Sarah is a member of the Mount Union College Choir?
Thanks for the info John, and Congrats to your DD!! :thumbsup2 Unfortunately I can't make it tho, my DD is performing that night also, in a band concert. :)

slo, keep us posted, please!

 ALL!! :grouphug:

Thanks for all your continued replys about the CCD subject - here's an update.....
The CCD Director called me yesterday and was EXTREMELY sorry for what happened. She had no idea this was going to be shown, and was shocked that it happened. She said she emailed all teachers telling them that they are no longer allowed to show anything, or play any music, without consulting her and Father first. She also said, that she told the teacher, to call each of the students home, to explain to the parents what her reasoning was, and to apologize for showing the movie w/o the parents consent. Needless to say, the movie is not going to continue, which is a very very good thing!!!!

As upset as I was, I will not hold it against this woman for making a very bad decision. I'm just glad the director and Father are on my side with this, and agree that the movie was a bad thing. So, for the most part, this is done.

Tomorrow is that Christmas Shopping Spree show, and I've been working like mad getting ready for it. I've made a bunch of little frames, with cute little mats inside, and I'm only selling them for $20 (includes tax). I also made a bunch of cute little mats that someone can put into their own frames, and I'm only selling them for $5. I also will have other photo frames, coffee table books, prints, and more. I'm really hoping to have some sales here, and generate awareness of the store. I'm also doing a raffle for a $25 gift certificate, which I hope gets me alot of names for my database :thumbsup2 Set up is at 8am, the show is 10 - 3pm, take down after that, and then we have the Chamber tree lighting in the evening - it's going to be a very very long day!!!!! :faint:

Sunday I'm putting up my first Christmas tree :santa:
I can't believe it!!!!!! Where has this year gone??????
I'm trying to get a nice early start with stocking stuffers for the girls. I've already bought stuff from AVON, and then last night I went to Dollar Tree and got some things too. Now I need to go to WalMart to buy the rest of the stocking stuffers, and then I'm done!!!! :woohoo:

Stitchfans - How's everything with your older DD?

piglet - How is Tastefully Simple going with the holidays? Do you have a lot of parties this time of year?

Towncrier - Good to see you!!!! :wave2: Thanks for the information, and congrats to your DD for being part of such a great group!!!! :)

geffric and Kim - :wave2:

Bunchkin - Congrats on your savings :dance3: Kevin once had over $120 worth of coupons and rebates from Jewel. He paid $21 for a cart full of groceries:cheer2: He hasn't had a chance to do that since, but that was pretty awesome :cheer2: I hope you get the chance to do that again soon!!

Gotta run and get ready so I can leave early today - I need to make a frame delivery at Katie's school.

Have a great day today everyone!!

Slo ~ I am glad that they agreed with you on this. Hopefully the teacher is now more aware of her choices in lesson plans.
**Sadly, I have never had a lot of parties. In my years of doing this, I usually get one party a quarter and just manage to make my quota of $400 for the quarter. I still love doing it though, just keep hoping that I will get that crowd that likes having parties and get more bookings.

John ~ How exciting for your daughter and her friends. I will be working that day, but thank you for the information.

Bunchkin ~ Those were some great coupons! Good job on your shopping trip.

Happy Friday everyone!

Good morning everyone. In a good mood cause I have the sunshine shining in on me though the window. Love that sunshine!! Been thinking about running out this afternoon to see New Moon. Yes, even at my age I read all 4 books, enjoyed it and want to see the second movie. DH and DD aren't interested in seeing it. Maybe I should wait for a while longer until the excitement of it being out dies down. I'll think about it.

Wow, Bunchkin!! You sure did save a lot of money. Way to go!! I clip coupons, but never saved like that.

SLO- thanks for asking about oldest DD. She is doing better. She is going to move in with a friend at the end of this month since she still hasn't found a job. She said she has been filling out anywhere from 3 to 4 or better applications a day, but has had no luck. Another friend is letting her store her things in their garage. My brother sent her some money to tide her over since she has tapped us out. We just can't afford to give her any more. :sad2: I feel especially bad too since the 28th is her birthday and she will be spending it alone. At least her friend, Lisa (the one she will be living with) invited her over for Thanksgiving too. She really is very nice young lady, Lisa.

Well have a few more emails to read, and will look through a few more threads. Everyone have a great day!!

Hi gang!

Off to do some grocery shopping soon.
And later today DS's is getting his tooth pulled and a spacer put in. I hope it goes well. I didn't talk about it with him this morning before school because I don't want it to be on his mind and ruin his day or the tests he has on Fridays. We talked about it off and on since we found out last Saturday and I think he's prepared. I think he's looking forward to the laughing gas!!!

They showed on Fox News Channel a huge line at a Toys R Us for their doorbuster sale that starts this afternoon. I could not believe it!
I try to avoid lines at all cost!!!

slo Hope the show goes well for you!!
I hope that the CCD teacher does call everyone to explain AND apologize!! :sad2:

stitchfans I hope your DD finds a job soon. I know so many people out of work. It's just soooo sad.
My DD wants me to take her to see New Moon. Not sure if we'll make it this weekend.

piglet I remember when my DD was little, I would get invites to a lot of home parties... a LOT! But over the years it seems people have cut back on them. I can't imagine this economy is good right now for that niche of market either.:sad2:

Time to go buy a TURKEY!!!

Hi guys! T.G.I.F.!!! I'm so glad this busy week is over. Next week is going to be a dream - no volleyball, no dance, no school for DS, only 2 days for DDs, almost no homework - ahhh! Heaven. ;)

DD12 had two volleyball games this week, they won one and lost one. DD8 is excited her dance shoes finally arrived after waiting 6 weeks.

Got called to DSs school this afternoon, he was having a meltdown. Not really sure why they called, it was 20+min before I could get there and he was completely calm by then. I'm so glad he's off next week. :rolleyes1

Bunchkin - I'm a coupon-aholic and love Target. There is a new Super Target nearby on Manheim Rd and it is GREAT. Not only can you stack coupons but they accept expired ones too! Had a similar experience awhile back, got $30+ worth of things for around $13. The lady behind me was shocked, the casher was a couponer so she expected it.

Stitchfans - I LOVE the sun too! So happy we'll see it all weekend too!
*Your DD is lucky to have such good friends, I hope things turn around for her soon!

slo - I'm shocked by your CCD issue and glad the priest and director agreed. Will be interesting to see if the teacher follows through, what were they thinking?!
*Best of luck at the Christmas show, hope it brings you lots of business!

Towncrier - thanks for the info, we have volleyball and dance on Thursdays but I've penciled it in just in case.

paint - hope school and work are going well, you sound so busy!
*Christmas time at WDW is simply wonderful, we went for many, many years the first week of Dec and loved it!

:wave2: to everyone else!

Have to run and pick up the girls from school. Have a great night all! :santa:

Hi gang! All this talk about coupons! I love 'em too! I am going to do some Christms shopping this weekend - both nieces and fil. Heading to the big craft show in Lockport. I guess I better think about cleaning, too.

Sunday we are going to Algonquin for my cousin's daughters baptism. After that we are all going to The Milk Pail for a Jazz Brunch. I have never been so am excited to go.

Slo - Have you heard from the teacher yet? Thank goodness you found out and took action on behalf of the kiddos. Good, good luck at the show tomorrow. I told dh to try to look you up.

ID - I know exactly how you feel on the easy weeks. We are between sports right now and it is so nice and relaxing.

Geffric - I second the Croc suggestion. I love my crocs. They aren't the most fashionable shoe but so comfy. You can get some great deals at the outlets or online.

Hi to everyone else! Enjoy the sunny weekend!
Lori

Thanks for all your continued replys about the CCD subject - here's an update.....She also said, that she told the teacher, to call each of the students home, to explain to the parents what her reasoning was, and to apologize for showing the movie w/o the parents consent.

Tomorrow is that Christmas Shopping Spree show,

Sunday I'm putting up my first Christmas tree :santa:
I've already bought stuff from AVON,
Did you get a call?
* Good Luck TODAY!! (I'll be at Brookfield Zoo with Kelly for Girl Scouts)
** Can you link us to your hostess account to order Avon? ( I gotta get my tree up too! As much as I hate the work, I LOVE THE LIGHTS!) :santa:

Yes, even at my age I read all 4 books, enjoyed it and want to see the second movie.
There's 4 books?!?! Oh no!! DD is finishing New Moon right now, and wants to see the movie this weekend. I don't. There's 2 MORE books??? Help me.

And later today DS's is getting his tooth pulled and a spacer put in. I hope it goes well.
Hunter  :goodvibes

Geffric - I second the Croc suggestion. I love my crocs. They aren't the most fashionable shoe but so comfy. You can get some great deals at the outlets or online.
I got Cubs crocs for 9.99 online! They had lots of other teams too! just an fyi for cheap Crocs. :thumbsup2

Besides the Zoo Sat., Kelly is going shopping with a friend and her friend's mom after that. Sunday she makes her 1st Communion.

I'm sure everyone has a busy week coming up, as do I. ;) Gobble Gobble!

:grouphug:

slo, I HATE dragging this on, but I just wonder why she/he/they showed a 'Good Friday' movie and NOT something more related to His Birth? :confused3 with Christmas coming up?

(Why DO WE call it GOOD Friday, anyway? :confused3 Just a general question/wonder. It wasn't Good for Him, in the physical sense, that is. I'm rambling, sorry) :confused3

I am so tired!!!!! :faint:
I worked so hard the last 2 days getting ready for this show. I made a bunch of new things, that are really cool!!!!
Then last night we got everything packed in the car (which is totally packed!!!) from the store and the storage garage, and now we are almost ready to go. I have a couple things left to put in the car from home, and then I"m done.
I'm really really hoping that I sell alot of this stuff today. Not only do I want to make some money, but I also don't want to drag all this stuff back to the store.
I'll be really glad when this show is done - I've been living it and breathing it all week now
Thanks to everyone who wished me luck today :goodvibes I need it!!!!:thumbsup2

To answer everyone's question - I have not received a phone call from the CCD teacher yet. I hope she actually calls, and doesn't just tell the director she will. One of the parents is a CCD teacher, so the director could easily ask her if this teacher called her. We'll see what happens.

To answer Kim's question - one why showed it closer to Advent instead of Lent is because she is currently teaching about the Rosary, and she showed the movie to help explain the stories (I can't think of the actual name - it's early) with the Rosary. The whole thing is just bizarre if you ask me

piglet - I"m sorry you didn't get a lot of parties last year :guilty: I hope 2010 is better for you :wizard:

Stitchfans - I"m sorry to hear that your DD has to leave her home and move in with her friend :guilty: I think you may have said before, but I don't remember, why can't she come home, and live with you again? I hope things get better for her in 2010 :wizard::wizard:

Bunchkin - How did Hunter do at the dentist yesterday? I hope he's not in a lot of pain today :wizard:

ID - Enjoy your week next week - it'll be a nice relaxing one for you!!!:goodvibes

momto1 - Have fun at your jazz brunch Sunday :cool1:
**Good luck to your DH today too :wizard:

Kim - I don't know how to link you to my account - I will have to find out for you:) I need to call my district manager about another issue, so I will ask her about this too. Thank you for asking!!!!:goodvibes

Well, I gotta go get ready for this long day, which includes The Chamber of Commerce tree lighting at the town hall :faint: I'm already looking forward to bed, and I just got out of it

Have a good day!!!

I got Cubs crocs for 9.99 online! They had lots of other teams too! just an fyi for cheap Crocs. :thumbsup2

. ;) Gobble Gobble!

:grouphug:

i really have never tried crocs.. i have an issue with plastic shoes.. i think they sweat and my feet sweat a lot all by themselves.. but maybe i try them..:confused3

Eric applied to Legoland.. hope he gets it.. it will pay for his data plan if he gets a DROID..

:laughing:afraid so. don't know how at my age I got "hooked" on it. her style of writing is for the younger group.

I am so tired!!!!! :fain

Stitchfans - I"m sorry to hear that your DD has to leave her home and move in with her friend :guilty: I think you may have said before, but I don't remember, why can't she come home, and live with you again? I hope things get better for her in 2010 :wizard::wizard

Have a good day!!!

Hi SLO- I have begged her to come home, but understand why she is fighting to stay there. My ex husband, her father is a real big control freak. She will be 29 at the end of this month and has been on her own for many years now. His tactic to control people is to either intimidate them, or hold over their head what he has done for them. To be honest, I think she is still afraid of him. After all these years after our divorce he still keeps tabs on me. He has many friends who report to him when they see me or DD when she is in town. Often I "run into" him at public places. He used to threaten me that if I ever left him he would rearrange my pretty face. Get the picture? As a matter of fact, he lives with his girlfriend, and her house is just a few blocks from mine.

Any how. I have to get to the store today to pick up the last minute items for Thanksgiving. Have other errands to run. Technically should not be on the computer goofing around. I keep telling myself I will just read one more thread. :guilty:

Hope everyone has a great day, and enjoy this wonderful sunshine. Talk to you all later. Bye,
